[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685232] [NEW] Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick

2012-04-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After performing a clean install of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10, I
found that I could not enable desktop effects. Desktop effects worked
without problem in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04.

What I expect : I go to System Preferences Appearance Visual
Effects and select Normal, and there are normal visual effects. I can
then go on to compiz settings and enable such things as the cube and
magnification.

What happens : I go to System Preferences Appearance Visual
Effects and select Normal. A box appears with Searching for
available drivers. The screen then flashes several times and a dialog
box appears with Desktop effects could not be enabled.

My system is:
IBM Thinkpad T40 1.3Ghz Centrino. Radeon mobility 7500 with 32MB. 1.25Gb RAM.

Many thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685232] Re: Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick

2012-04-22 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to
look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many
changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem
may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if
you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test
it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running
apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this
particular issue.

I suspect your issue may have been solved by disabling KMS (kernel
modesetting)

drm/i915: implement ColorBlt w/a

According to an internal workaround master list, we need to set bit 5
of register 9400 to avoid issues with color blits.

Testing shows that this seems to fix the blitter hangs when fbc is
enabled on snb, thanks to Chris Wilson for figuring this out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776526] [NEW] [ThinkPad T510] Ext VGA does not function

2012-04-22 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Natty testing on the ThinkPad T510. The external VGA port does not work
when connected to an external monitor. I tried both waiting for the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776526] Re: [ThinkPad T510] Ext VGA/DisplayPort does not function

2012-04-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jeff Lane, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping
to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be
reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the
development release - Precise Pangolin. It would help us greatly if you
could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next
release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release
at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your
help.

Except now I'm *constantly* getting the crash notifications. They won't
go away. I don't have the option to Don't offer to report this crash

even after reboot. I get asked several questions, even if I untick Send

When resizing the dash several time on my netbook it becomes transparent
as you can see on the screenshot I attached.

Also when I maximise the dash the background is not one blurred picture
anymore. You can see this on the other screenshot I attached in the next
commend.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 779611] Re: touchpad doesn't work at all

2012-04-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Stephan, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could
you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection ? As well, can you
try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 981420] Re: Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise iff syndaemon is started

2012-04-22 Thread Axel Beckert
Hi,

Ahmed Shams wrote:
 - Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise iff syndaemon is run
+ Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise if syndaemon is running

I'm sorry, but that changes the meaning of the phrase.

It's iff (i.e. if and only if; c.f. [1]) and it always happens
after syndaemon is run (as in run, ran, run, i.e. not simple
present, but past participle; c.f. [2]), but not immediately after
syndaemon has been started from my perception.

And IIRC I haven't checked if it works again if I kill syndaemon
during a running session (which IMHO your wording using present
participle would imply), only if I comment it out in my .xsession and
don't start it at all. (I'll check that the next time I'll boot that
box.)

So I changed the iff back and replaced the maybe misleading is run
with is started. Hope, that makes it more clear.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986838] [NEW] Multi-monitor setup reverts back automatically after a few seconds

2012-04-22 Thread summentier
Public bug reported:

On my Dell Latitude D630 running Kubuntu 11.10 (Linux 3.0, Xorg 1.10.4),
when cycling through multi-monitor set-ups either using [Fn][F8] but
also using the config tool) after some flickering it changes to only
external monitor (internal monitor disabled). However, after 10 to 30
seconds the system starts to slow down and the monitor setup reverts
back to clone (I see the same screen on both displays).

In /var/log/syslog, I can trace that behaviour (# marks comments):

#pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup
[ 1109.036386] composite sync not supported
#message is repeated 30 times until timestamp 1119.174609 then the change
#is performed, but then 30 secs later, the system starts to slow down and
#I start to get the message again:
[ 1159.442640] composite sync not supported
#message is repeated 15 times until 1162.603256, during which the X.org
#setup is reverted to clone (I see the same screen on both displays)

In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I get similar results:

#pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup

I also experience that behaviour when changing the monitor set-up
through the KDE control centre, however less frequenty.

Yes. It happens not only with Nautilus. The same happens with
gnome-system-monitor.
In these last days occurs more often, I think.

I can say that it stops immediately, even if I don't try to scroll off-limits.
I open Nautilus or System monitor and I can't scroll from the first moment.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start faster than drm driver is ready

2012-04-22 Thread Tomas Vanderka
After disabling plymouth-splash I can't reproduce this anymore.

It's a race between plymouth and xorg. Plymouth holds DRM master
(drm_setmaster_ioctl) while xorg tries to start (drm_setversion) and
fails with EACCESS because it needs DRM_MASTER for that.

It works fine if
1. plymouth never starts
2. plymouth calls drm_dropmaster_ioctl before X starts

And another thing is the Xorg.log timestamps can't really be trusted.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop

2012-04-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
TJ, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better.
This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in
it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try
with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are
available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the
development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and
attach updated debug information to this report.

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would
be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the
issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 927288] Re: Xorg crash with qt4 apps using nvidia drivers

2012-04-22 Thread Hussam
Solution to this problem seems to be very simple which i found after
struggling with the problem for a year.

This is on the assumption that all of you have used the nvidia-settings
utility to generate your xorg.conf file.

Edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and comment out or delete the below
shown lines

Section Files
FontPath unix/:7100
EndSection

Save the file and restart GDM or lightDM which ever is your login
manager using

/etc/init.d/gdm restart

or /etc/init.d/lightdm restart

Now all of the QT applications like virtualbox and skype should not crash X

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986445] Re: nvidia-common makes my Xorg to crash sometimes

2012-04-22 Thread Andrea Grandi
It looks like the problem with 295.40 version of Nvidia driver is confirmed
even by Nvidia: http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTA4ODc
I've switched back to 295.33 version, using this PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates
and it looks stable right now. I know that I'm now vulnerable to a security
problem, but since it's not a remote security problem and I'm the only user of
this PC it's pretty fine for me.

rather than the stable release... Seems pretty backwards to me.

Regardless would you have any information on how to fix this on 11.10?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 974620] Re: Accelerated playback on YouTube swaps red and blue color channels

2012-04-22 Thread Victor Zamanian
The workaround works for me on nvidia 295.40.

Although the flash player becomes very unstable as others have reported,
and it crashes *very* often for me. Disabling hardware acceleration from
inside the flash player is also a workaround, by right-clicking the
flash player and selecting Settings -- if one wants to keep libvdpau1
for other purposes (like mplayer2/xbmc/etc), for example.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987007] [NEW] Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.4beta2 not possible with fglrx installed

2012-04-22 Thread Andreas Siegert
Public bug reported:

When running update-manager -d on 11.10 eventually an error will pop up in
the initial checking that terminates the upgrade with a rather unspecific error
about package problems. Looking closere at the log file, it looks like the
prorpietary fglrx driver is the problem.
After removing it, the update went fine.

2012-04-22 Thread Logan
Joseph, I would give you the boilerplate response about how to request
that an update be backported to the current stable version of Ubuntu,
but, given that the final version of 12.04 will be released in four
days, I recommend that you just wait until it is released and enjoy the
new driver at that point. :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: Nvidia 295.40 - Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Fresh Install (slow performance in Unity 3D, and EQ Overflow)

2012-04-22 Thread Charles Profitt
Nvidia has commented:

We've identified two separate issues with 295.40; one affecting
G80-based products and being tied to the security patch. The other
affecting integrated graphics chipsets, which is independent of the
security fix. The next release from the 295 series will address both of
these, while still maintaining the security issue closed.

If you are running into a regression between 295.33 and 295.40, and are
not on a G80 or an integrated GPU, please open a new thread and be sure
to attach all the necessary information so that this can be investigated
separately in the interest of clarity.

Thanks a lot!
