[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685232] [NEW] Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After performing a clean install of Ubuntu Maverick Meerkat 10.10, I found that I could not enable desktop effects. Desktop effects worked without problem in Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04. What I expect : I go to System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects and select Normal, and there are normal visual effects. I can then go on to compiz settings and enable such things as the cube and magnification. What happens : I go to System Preferences Appearance Visual Effects and select Normal. A box appears with Searching for available drivers. The screen then flashes several times and a dialog box appears with Desktop effects could not be enabled. My system is: IBM Thinkpad T40 1.3Ghz Centrino. Radeon mobility 7500 with 32MB. 1.25Gb RAM. Many thanks. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 685232] Re: Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect bug # and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue. I suspect your issue may have been solved by disabling KMS (kernel modesetting) ** Package changed: jockey (Ubuntu) = xorg (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/685232 Title: Cannot enable desktop effects in Maverick To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/685232/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 776526] Re: [ThinkPad T510] Ext VGA/DisplayPort does not function
Jeff Lane, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Precise Pangolin. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help. ** Tags added: dual-head ** Description changed: Natty testing on the ThinkPad T510. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 779611] Re: touchpad doesn't work at all
Stephan, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please provide the information following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection ? As well, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. ** Tags added: needs-upstream-testing ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) = xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779611 Title: touchpad doesn't work at all To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/779611/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 981420] Re: Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise iff syndaemon is started
Hi, Ahmed Shams wrote: - Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise iff syndaemon is run + Regression: Touchpad always stops working on precise if syndaemon is running I'm sorry, but that changes the meaning of the phrase. It's iff (i.e. if and only if; c.f. [1]) and it always happens after syndaemon is run (as in run, ran, run, i.e. not simple present, but past participle; c.f. [2]), but not immediately after syndaemon has been started from my perception. And IIRC I haven't checked if it works again if I kill syndaemon during a running session (which IMHO your wording using present participle would imply), only if I comment it out in my .xsession and don't start it at all. (I'll check that the next time I'll boot that box.) So I changed the iff back and replaced the maybe misleading is run with is started. Hope, that makes it more clear. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986838] [NEW] Multi-monitor setup reverts back automatically after a few seconds
Public bug reported: On my Dell Latitude D630 running Kubuntu 11.10 (Linux 3.0, Xorg 1.10.4), when cycling through multi-monitor set-ups either using [Fn][F8] but also using the config tool) after some flickering it changes to only external monitor (internal monitor disabled). However, after 10 to 30 seconds the system starts to slow down and the monitor setup reverts back to clone (I see the same screen on both displays). In /var/log/syslog, I can trace that behaviour (# marks comments): #pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup [ 1109.036386] composite sync not supported #message is repeated 30 times until timestamp 1119.174609 then the change #is performed, but then 30 secs later, the system starts to slow down and #I start to get the message again: [ 1159.442640] composite sync not supported #message is repeated 15 times until 1162.603256, during which the X.org #setup is reverted to clone (I see the same screen on both displays) In my /var/log/Xorg.0.log, I get similar results: #pressing Fn+F8 to change the monitor setup [ 1109.022] (II) PM Event received: Capability Changed [ 1109.022] I830PMEvent: Capability change [ 1109.036] (II) intel(0): EDID vendor AUO, prod id 4935 [ 1109.036] (II) intel(0): DDCModeFromDetailedTiming: 1440x900 Warning: We only handle separate sync. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982889] Re: X trying to start faster than drm driver is ready
After disabling plymouth-splash I can't reproduce this anymore. It's a race between plymouth and xorg. Plymouth holds DRM master (drm_setmaster_ioctl) while xorg tries to start (drm_setversion) and fails with EACCESS because it needs DRM_MASTER for that. It works fine if 1. plymouth never starts 2. plymouth calls drm_dropmaster_ioctl before X starts And another thing is the Xorg.log timestamps can't really be trusted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982889 Title: X trying to start faster than drm driver is ready To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/982889/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
TJ, thank you for reporting this bug and helping make Ubuntu better. This bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? Can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream- testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. I got one initial hang when using google maps, after that it ran almost smooth. Previously every single zoom on the map caused yet another hangcheck_hung entry. The log message I got was: [ 79.722665] [drm:i915_hangcheck_hung] *ERROR* Hangcheck timer elapsed... GPU hung [ 79.722669] [drm] capturing error event; look for more information in /debug/dri/0/i915_error_state [ 79.734067] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p off, RC6pp off -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966631 Title: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x7a03 with Google Maps(WebGL) in Chromium To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/966631/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Not quite sure what caused this. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982710] Re: Nvidia 295.40 - Ubuntu 12.04 Beta 2 Fresh Install (slow performance in Unity 3D, and EQ Overflow)
Nvidia has commented: We've identified two separate issues with 295.40; one affecting G80-based products and being tied to the security patch. The other affecting integrated graphics chipsets, which is independent of the security fix. The next release from the 295 series will address both of these, while still maintaining the security issue closed. If you are running into a regression between 295.33 and 295.40, and are not on a G80 or an integrated GPU, please open a new thread and be sure to attach all the necessary information so that this can be investigated separately in the interest of clarity.
