Are someone up to a patch for this? Or should I create one using the
script from Ubuntu Forums?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878904] Re: Touchpad stops working after using system for a few minutes

2012-04-23 Thread Siim Põder
this is likely not kernel bug, see here:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+question/176273

my guess is the touchpad gets disabled by syndaemon and for some reason
fails to get re-enabled. synclient/xinput being able to re-enable the
mouse speaks for this, also for me the touchpad continued to work on
console with gmp.

the driver itself has no knowledge of the display size, I think it's
just the only driver that triggers it. some combination of setups,
possibly the absolute axis ranges but relative events being sent.

I think this was discussed recently on the mailing list - maybe in your
holidays - synaptics somehow adjusts itself to the display geometry,
IIRC.

I don't find it right now, but it sounds as if you could check for
display code in synaptics just to be safe.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968536] Re: Natural Scrolling broken with software-center in 12.04

2012-04-23 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
You've run into GTK3's support for smooth-scrolling, which does not rely
on mapping buttons 4/5 as “mouse wheel” buttons. What's happening after
you remapped the buttons is GTK3 is receiving a “scroll down by 12.4
increments” message, and *also* receiving a “the scroll-up button was
pressed” message.

In order to reverse the scroll order you additionally need to reverse
the scroll axis; you can do this with the “xinput” tool by providing a
negative value for the scroll distance.

I uninstalled all the kernels I had set up, I reinstalled the default
kernel. FGlRX failed, so I rebooted and tried to reinstall it with the
intention of getting it to work and NO DICE.

I just want FGLRX to work again.

Have another post up regarding virtualbox, which is ( I believe the reason why
all this crap is happening)
It says that there is no install in the file archives or something like that.

so i can't do the prompt.

This was Synaptic's response to trying to install everything that has to
do with FGLRX.

that fine, even though the bug involves graphical errors?

Here it's shown using the evdev driver rather than multitouch. But I
guess something about the remove/re-add of the keyboard leaves the
touchpad in an inconsistent state.

So it's either a kernel driver or an X driver issue... udev is just the
messenger here, passing through the add/remove shown it by the kernel.

2012-04-23 Thread Steve Langasek
X is supposed to support hot-adding of input devices.

Here are the relevant lines that show up during a failed boot but not a
successful one:

-(II) config/udev: removing device Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad
-(II) evdev: Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Close
-(II) UnloadModule: "evdev"
-(II) Unloading evdev
-(II) config/udev: Adding input device Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard /
Trackpad (/dev/input/event6)
-(**) Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Applying InputClass "evdev
keyboard catchall"
-(II) Using input driver 'evdev' for 'Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard /
Trackpad'
-(II) Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/evdev_drv.so
-(**) Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: always reports core events
-(**) evdev: Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Device:
"/dev/input/event6"
-(--) evdev: Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Vendor 0x5ac
Product 0x249
-(--) evdev: Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Found keys
-(II) evdev: Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard / Trackpad: Configuring as
keyboard
-(**) Option "config_info"
"udev:/sys/devices/pci:00/:00:1a.7/usb1/1-1/1-1.2/1-1.2:1.0/input/input14/event6"
-(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "Apple Inc. Apple Internal Keyboard
/ Trackpad" (type: KEYBOARD, id 10)
-(**) Option "xkb_rules" "evdev"
-(**) Option "xkb_model" "pc105"
-(**) Option "xkb_layout" "us"

I don't agree that this is an issue in the udev layer; that looks like a
plain evdev issue to me, since when the device is reopened it comes up
with different features.

However, it may be enlightening to see a /var/log/udev and matching
Xorg.0.log from the same boot capturing this issue. If nothing else it
may point to a workaround. Clint, could you provide such logs?

Is there a BIOS update available for your machine? That may help...
also we may need to take the VBT values and stuff them back into the
regs at init time to give them reasonable values.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-04-23 Thread Chris Wilson
Some clues as to which may not be zero may be found in:

commit f01eca2e52169eaf3a485cbd9752435489fbfba9
Author: Keith Packard
Date: Wed Sep 28 16:48:10 2011 -0700

drm/i915: Correct eDP panel power sequencing delay computations

Store the panel power sequencing delays in the dp private structure,
rather than the global device structure. Who knows, maybe we'll get
more than one eDP device in the future.

From the eDP spec, we need the following numbers:

 T1 + T3Power on to Aux Channel operation (panel_power_up_delay)

This marks how long it takes the panel to boot up and
get ready to receive aux channel communications.

T8 Video signal to backlight on (backlight_on_delay)

Once a valid video signal is being sent to the device,
it can take a while before the panel is actuall
showing useful data. This delay allows the panel
to get something reasonable up before the backlight
is turned on.

T9 Backlight off to video off (backlight_off_delay)

Turning the backlight off can take a moment, so
this delay makes sure there is still valid video
data on the screen.

T10Video off to power off (panel_power_down_delay)

Presumably this delay allows the panel to perform
an orderly shutdown of the display.

 T11 + T12 Power off to power on (panel_power_cycle_delay)

So, once you turn the panel off, you have to wait a
while before you can turn it back on. This delay is
usually the longest in the entire sequence.

Neither the VBIOS source code nor the hardware documentation has a
clear mapping between the delay values they provide and those required
by the eDP spec. The VBIOS code actually uses two different labels for
the delay values in the five words of the relevant VBT table.

 MORE LATER ***

Look at both the current hardware register settings and the VBT
specified panel power sequencing timings. Use the maximum of the two
delays, to make sure things work reliably. If there is no VBT data,
then those values will be initialized to zero, so we'll just use the
values as programmed in the hardware. Note that the BIOS just fetches
delays from the VBT table to place in the hardware registers, so we
should get the same values from both places, except for rounding.

VBT doesn't provide any values for T1 or T2, so we'll always just use
the hardware value for that.

The panel power up delay is thus T1 + T2 + T3, which should be
sufficient in all cases.

The panel power down delay is T1 + T2 + T12, using T1+T2 as a proxy
for T11, which isn't available anywhere.

For the backlight delays, the eDP spec says T6 + T8 is the delay from the
end of link training to backlight on and T9 is the delay from
backlight off until video off. The hardware provides a 'backlight on'
delay, which I'm taking to be T6 + T8 while the VBT provides something

On the macbook air I'm testing with, this yields a power-up delay of
over 200ms and a power-down delay of over 600ms. It all works now, but
we're frobbing these power controls several times during mode setting,
making the whole process take an awfully long time.

That patch will restore detection of the eDP panel right... Oh but then
we are back to the original bug. Darn, I'd forgotten just how many
regressions you were fighting.

So what happens is that we also check the VBT for eDP panel data and
combine those with the register settings the BIOS was meant to make...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]

2012-04-23 Thread Jesse Barnes
Ok just tested drm-intel-next-queued on my wife's ux31 (I snuck it away
without her looking, I'll probably hear screams soon though).

eDP works ok: the kernel comes up, I can see boot messages, then X
starts and I see the desktop.

When I connect a mini-HDMI to my 25x16 monitor, it comes up at 19x12,
which is expected, and the eDP stays on. I tried this about 5 times and
it worked every time.

I don't have a dongle for VGA though, and it's remotely possible that
VGA is somehow causing trouble for us, but it's more likely this is an
issue with some other aspect of your configuration...

The top of the tree I was using is this commit (i.e. drm-intel-next-
queued from this morning):

commit b98e5240b362e702355ffedba05aeb589dfbcbe2

Date: Fri Apr 13 18:24:38 2012 +0100

GPU temp with nvidia-smi tool and as soon as it gets around 110°C the GPU is
shutting down.
I made an extensive cleanup of my case and also set all the fans to max rpms (
got a fan controller on my case) now I can watch streaming videos full screen
at around 60-62°C.
I understood that the GPU was shutting down because when I switched to

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 446717] Re: [gm45] Adjusting Brightness in Acer Aspire Timelines causes system freeze in 4810T and 5810T models

2012-04-23 Thread Joel Karlsson
Bump. After attaching a few log files to the bug report at
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29931, they concluded that
was not a bug in the Intel driver, but in compiz. I'm not sure whether
this is the correct forum for bugs in compiz, but I'll be more than
happy to help out with any information you may need.

I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 on an Acer 4810T.

At first I thought it was a bug on Firefox and reported it as

Also reported it to the distribution (Ubuntu) as

Both bug reports suggested this was a problem "upstream" and suggested I
filed the issue here so I'm doing that.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop

2012-04-23 Thread TJ
The original report was on a desktop with an ATI Radeon video adapter
running Lucid. I gave up on that system.

Now, on a Precise amd64 installation on my primary laptop that has an
Nvidia GEForce Go 7600 and the nvidia drivers I've hit the same issue
several times today (23 April 2012) after early-morning package
upgrades.

It seems to be provoked mostly when I switch VTs. Didn't have the
problem until today's upgrades.

kern.log helpfully reports:

like boot time bugs and same bug as I am presenting here.
Actually, the battery indicator does not show the battery remaining. It just
indicate it as "not present". After some time, the battery just does off and
laptop just crashes.
Had anyone has gone threw this bug or have this bug been solved?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987498] [NEW] Unity/compiz freeze but mouse still move

2012-04-23 Thread Id2ndR
Public bug reported:

I don't know how to reproduce the but but here are the results after it
happened:
- the mouse works. first console works too (Ctrl+Alt+F1)
- I'm able to launch unity-2d-shell and unity-2d-panel and metacity and to kill
compiz to get an usable desktop
- launching again unity won't work (desktop frozen, displaying the background
without any window)
- switching back to first console works but takes a long time (about 1 minute)
- the system load doesn't go under 1 in top, as if there is a busy thread in X?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987463] [NEW] Muy 12.04 doesn't recognise my dispaly properly anymore.

2012-04-23 Thread Sampsa Saahkari
Public bug reported:

Previously I was happily using my Ubuntu system with my Samsung SyncMaster
959NF 19" CRT display, it showed it was a Samsung SyncMaster 19"previously in
Displays. Now the max resoultion is 1024x768 and it doesn't recognize it
anymore. It has done it a couple of times previously and it was a pain in the
ass to use witha low reso. I think it may have something to do with updates.
NOTE: I have the metapackege "kubuntu-desktop" installed on top of reg. Ubuntu
and it boots as Kubuntu. I would like the old Ubuntu splash back while still
kepping the KDE utilities and stuff.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987041] Re: mouse icon changes

2012-04-23 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which
is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper
developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this
bug as a bug in xorg.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-
bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this
functionality at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs.

** Package changed: ubuntu => xorg (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987041] [NEW] mouse icon changes

2012-04-23 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sometimes without prompt the icon used for the mouse will change away
from the usual arrow to a line of around 10 vertical dots. I can't find
what makes them change or how to change then back (they seem to change
back again randomly). The icon only changes when prompted as it will
only change when it goes over something and then change back under the
same conditions usually about 15 minutes later. The icon never changes
when I'm not using the mouse. I am using 12.04 beta 2 but this bug would
occur before I upgraded from 11.10

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986600] Re: Black screen after resume from standby

2012-04-23 Thread Stéphane Guillou
Same thing here on my netbook (Samsung N310). If I leave the computer
unused for an hour, it goes to suspend, but then doesn't resume, leaves
me with a black screen and a pointer. Restarting X with Alt Gr + Prt scr
+ K does make the computer react, but the black screen stays.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926042] Re: Graphical environment becomes laggy and then freezes under high load

2012-04-23 Thread Reuben Firmin
This actually seems to be a compiz issue.

I noticed that while compiling a complex GWT project, I'd encounter a
load average of 15 or so, and my system would freeze up with similar
symptoms as I originally described. Running htop the resource using
processes were all java, although I saw compiz in there at about 1% CPU.

As an experiment I switched to ubuntu 2d. Instant fix. The same compile
leaves my UI completely responsive, even though the load average is the
same.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 920488] Re: X.org crashes (Segmentation fault)

2012-04-23 Thread Ve2dmn
The last time it was an issue was on 2012-03-27 (see previous post).

I don't have my E6420 anymore, so I can't test any changes or updates.
(Gave it back to my employer for my old E6410.)

This is still an issue for my coworkers.
