[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 878904] Re: Touchpad stops working after using system for a few minutes
this is likely not kernel bug, see here: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+question/176273 my guess is the touchpad gets disabled by syndaemon and for some reason fails to get re-enabled. synclient/xinput being able to re-enable the mouse speaks for this, also for me the touchpad continued to work on console with gmp. ** Package changed: linux (Ubuntu) => xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/878904 Title: Touchpad stops working after using system for a few minutes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/878904/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 968536] Re: Natural Scrolling broken with software-center in 12.04
You've run into GTK3's support for smooth-scrolling, which does not rely on mapping buttons 4/5 as “mouse wheel” buttons. What's happening after you remapped the buttons is GTK3 is receiving a “scroll down by 12.4 increments” message, and *also* receiving a “the scroll-up button was pressed” message. In order to reverse the scroll order you additionally need to reverse the scroll axis; you can do this with the “xinput” tool by providing a negative value for the scroll distance. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/968536 Title: Natural Scrolling broken with software-center in 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/968536/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946311]
Some clues as to which may not be zero may be found in: commit f01eca2e52169eaf3a485cbd9752435489fbfba9 Author: Keith Packard Date: Wed Sep 28 16:48:10 2011 -0700 drm/i915: Correct eDP panel power sequencing delay computations Store the panel power sequencing delays in the dp private structure, rather than the global device structure. Who knows, maybe we'll get more than one eDP device in the future. From the eDP spec, we need the following numbers: T1 + T3Power on to Aux Channel operation (panel_power_up_delay) This marks how long it takes the panel to boot up and get ready to receive aux channel communications. T8 Video signal to backlight on (backlight_on_delay) Once a valid video signal is being sent to the device, it can take a while before the panel is actuall showing useful data. This delay allows the panel to get something reasonable up before the backlight is turned on. T9 Backlight off to video off (backlight_off_delay) Turning the backlight off can take a moment, so this delay makes sure there is still valid video data on the screen. T10Video off to power off (panel_power_down_delay) Presumably this delay allows the panel to perform an orderly shutdown of the display. T11 + T12 Power off to power on (panel_power_cycle_delay) So, once you turn the panel off, you have to wait a while before you can turn it back on. This delay is usually the longest in the entire sequence. Neither the VBIOS source code nor the hardware documentation has a clear mapping between the delay values they provide and those required by the eDP spec. The VBIOS code actually uses two different labels for the delay values in the five words of the relevant VBT table. MORE LATER *** Look at both the current hardware register settings and the VBT specified panel power sequencing timings. Use the maximum of the two delays, to make sure things work reliably. If there is no VBT data, then those values will be initialized to zero, so we'll just use the values as programmed in the hardware. Note that the BIOS just fetches delays from the VBT table to place in the hardware registers, so we should get the same values from both places, except for rounding. VBT doesn't provide any values for T1 or T2, so we'll always just use the hardware value for that. The panel power up delay is thus T1 + T2 + T3, which should be sufficient in all cases. The panel power down delay is T1 + T2 + T12, using T1+T2 as a proxy for T11, which isn't available anywhere. For the backlight delays, the eDP spec says T6 + T8 is the delay from the end of link training to backlight on and T9 is the delay from backlight off until video off. The hardware provides a 'backlight on' delay, which I'm taking to be T6 + T8 while the VBT provides something called 'T7', which I'm assuming is s On the macbook air I'm testing with, this yields a power-up delay of over 200ms and a power-down delay of over 600ms. It all works now, but we're frobbing these power controls several times during mode setting, making the whole process take an awfully long time. Ok just tested drm-intel-next-queued on my wife's ux31 (I snuck it away without her looking, I'll probably hear screams soon though). eDP works ok: the kernel comes up, I can see boot messages, then X starts and I see the desktop. When I connect a mini-HDMI to my 25x16 monitor, it comes up at 19x12, which is expected, and the eDP stays on. I tried this about 5 times and it worked every time. I don't have a dongle for VGA though, and it's remotely possible that VGA is somehow causing trouble for us, but it's more likely this is an issue with some other aspect of your configuration... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 567696] Re: [mi] EQ overflowing. The server is probably stuck in an infinite loop
The original report was on a desktop with an ATI Radeon video adapter running Lucid. I gave up on that system. Now, on a Precise amd64 installation on my primary laptop that has an Nvidia GEForce Go 7600 and the nvidia drivers I've hit the same issue several times today (23 April 2012) after early-morning package upgrades. It seems to be provoked mostly when I switch VTs. Didn't have the problem until today's upgrades. kern.log helpfully reports: grep NVRM /var/log/kern.log | sed 's/^.*kernel: \(.*\)$/\1/' [ 28.442074] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 295.40 Thu Apr 5 21:37:00 PDT 2012 [ 215.646010] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 0204 0018 0020 [ 217.645954] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 219.645963] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 234.364853] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef4a01 004a 0404 07800018 0010 [ 236.364786] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 238.408077] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1808 0020 [ 240.408030] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 242.515854] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 0204 0018 0020 [ 246.552706] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1808 0020 [ 248.552658] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 250.597166] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 0204 0018 0020 [ 254.641104] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1808 0020 [ 256.641050] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 258.729179] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 0204 0018 0020 [ 264.764097] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 273.985109] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 278.040099] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 282.089573] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 286.152939] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 290.213195] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 302.397407] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 316.933763] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 346.117690] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 625.614312] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 295.40 Thu Apr 5 21:37:00 PDT 2012 [ 657.107112] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0001 bfef0010 004a 0404 05000320 0010 [ 673.884392] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0001 bfef0010 004a 0404 05000320 0010 [ 802.914790] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0001 bfef0010 004a 0404 05000320 0010 [ 804.914751] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 27.011483] NVRM: loading NVIDIA UNIX x86_64 Kernel Module 295.40 Thu Apr 5 21:37:00 PDT 2012 [ 247.624331] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1808 0020 [ 249.624275] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 251.627311] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 6, PE 0b88 8186c083 00f2f1f0 [ 254.006539] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1fd8 0001 0020 [ 256.006489] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 258.118780] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1fd8 0001 0020 [ 260.118691] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 262.121813] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 6, PE 1f04 00f2f1f0 [ 262.767592] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 1808 0020 [ 264.767541] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 266.947763] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef3097 4097 0204 0018 0020 [ 271.241460] NVRM: Xid (:01:00): 13, 0002 beef7702 3089 040c 0010 [ 273.241399] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 277.441501] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 281.499072] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 289.588372] NVRM: os_schedule: Attempted to yield the CPU while in atomic or interrupt context [ 294.100102] NVRM: os_

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987460] [NEW] battery indicator does not show battery remaining
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have recently installed the ubuntu 12.04 desktop edition to test it out. Previously, I had ubuntu 10.10 32 bit on my machine but there were some bugs like boot time bugs and same bug as I am presenting here. Actually, the battery indicator does not show the battery remaining. It just indicate it as "not present". After some time, the battery just does off and laptop just crashes. Had anyone has gone threw this bug or have this bug been solved? Public bug reported: I don't know how to reproduce the but but here are the results after it happened: - the mouse works. first console works too (Ctrl+Alt+F1) - I'm able to launch unity-2d-shell and unity-2d-panel and metacity and to kill compiz to get an usable desktop - launching again unity won't work (desktop frozen, displaying the background without any window) - switching back to first console works but takes a long time (about 1 minute) - the system load doesn't go under 1 in top, as if there is a busy thread in X? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987463] [NEW] Muy 12.04 doesn't recognise my dispaly properly anymore.
Public bug reported: Previously I was happily using my Ubuntu system with my Samsung SyncMaster 959NF 19" CRT display, it showed it was a Samsung SyncMaster 19"previously in Displays. Now the max resoultion is 1024x768 and it doesn't recognize it anymore. It has done it a couple of times previously and it was a pain in the ass to use witha low reso. I think it may have something to do with updates. NOTE: I have the metapackege "kubuntu-desktop" installed on top of reg. Ubuntu and it boots as Kubuntu. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987041] [NEW] mouse icon changes
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Sometimes without prompt the icon used for the mouse will change away from the usual arrow to a line of around 10 vertical dots. I can't find what makes them change or how to change then back (they seem to change back again randomly). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 926042] Re: Graphical environment becomes laggy and then freezes under high load
This actually seems to be a compiz issue. I noticed that while compiling a complex GWT project, I'd encounter a load average of 15 or so, and my system would freeze up with similar symptoms as I originally described. Running htop the resource using processes were all java, although I saw compiz in there at about 1% CPU. As an experiment I switched to ubuntu 2d. Instant fix.
