[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001842] [NEW] No Audio from HDMI After Switching Monitor Off / On
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After the 12.04 Update my HDMI audio stops working anytime I turn off or on, my 2nd monitor(plasma TV) System SettingsSound - Output HDMI audio disappears from the list when monitor is turned off or on and does not reappear. see http://askubuntu.com/questions/133575/hdmi-audio-stops-after-tv- turned-off/139265#139265 I'm guessing it has something to do with sink detection and ATI video The only info I've found is after running pactl list Partial copy Sink #0 State: SUSPENDED Name: alsa_output.pci-_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo Description: Turks HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series] Digital Stereo (HDMI) Driver: module-alsa-card.c Sample Specification: s16le 2ch 44100Hz Channel Map: front-left,front-right Owner Module: 4 Mute: no Volume: 0: 100% 1: 100% 0: 0.00 dB 1: 0.00 dB balance 0.00 Base Volume: 100% 0.00 dB Monitor Source: alsa_output.pci-_01_00.1.hdmi-stereo.monitor Latency: 0 usec, configured 0 usec Flags: HARDWARE DECIBEL_VOLUME LATENCY SET_FORMATS Properties: alsa.resolution_bits = 16 device.api = alsa device.class = sound alsa.class = generic alsa.subclass = generic-mix alsa.name = HDMI 0 alsa.id = HDMI 0 alsa.subdevice = 0 alsa.subdevice_name = subdevice #0 alsa.device = 3 alsa.card = 1 alsa.card_name = HD-Audio Generic alsa.long_card_name = HD-Audio Generic at 0xfddfc000 irq 48 alsa.driver_name = snd_hda_intel device.bus_path = pci-:01:00.1 sysfs.path = /devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/:01:00.1/sound/card1 device.bus = pci device.vendor.id = 1002 device.vendor.name = Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI device.product.name = Turks HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series] device.string = hdmi:1 device.buffering.buffer_size = 65536 device.buffering.fragment_size = 32768 device.access_mode = mmap+timer device.profile.name = hdmi-stereo device.profile.description = Digital Stereo (HDMI) device.description = Turks HDMI Audio [Radeon HD 6000 Series] Digital Stereo (HDMI) alsa.mixer_name = ATI R6xx HDMI alsa.components = HDA:1002aa01,00aa0100,00100200 module-udev-detect.discovered = 1 device.icon_name = audio-card-pci Ports: hdmi-output-0: HDMI / DisplayPort (priority: 5900, not available) Active Port: hdmi-output-0 Formats: pcm I checked before and after. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 541511] Re: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash)
The GPU lockups typically require kernel patches, as it appears in this case, rather than changes on the X side. Sometimes we leave the X task open to help track the issue to solution, but as mentioned in recent comments, we're no longer providing engineering support for this old hardware so don't need to track it. I'll leave the linux task open for now though. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: Triaged = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/541511 Title: MASTER: [i855] GPU lockup (apport-crash) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-release-notes/+bug/541511/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1008935] [NEW] Window edges difficult to catch and drag by mouse pointer
Public bug reported: Using quantal, up to date on 4 June 2012. System is a iMac 11,2 (mid 2010) with i3 processor, 4 GB memory and Mobility Radeon 4670 video. Currently booted into gnome desktop (Ubuntu 12.10 (quantal) using efi stub boot on 3.4.0-3 kernel (first time I've been able to do this). Other ways of booting have been tried but don't change this problem. The graphics driver in use is uncertain. I couldn't get fglrx to compile against this kernel so I set the xorg device to 'fbdev'. Windows move easily on screen and there doesn't seem to be any lag in redraws. I'd say the desktop is as responsive as OSX. When I want to resize a window, by click-drag an edge or corner of the window, the mouse pointer jumps around and is almost impossible to control. The mouse pointer is not good compared with OSX pointer handling. I have tried to disable overlay scrollbars using sudo echo export LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 /etc/X11/Xsession.d/80overlayscrollbars and rebooting. The scrollbars are now old-style but problem still there. This could be a gnome or xorg setting that I don't know about. Mouse acceleration and sensitivity are both minimum, drag and drop threshold is max. This poor pointer control was present on 12.04 but didn't seem so severe as it is now. I regard this as a major fault in usability for the desktop. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982485] Re: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
You can only attach one file at a time in Launchpad. I'm not 100% sure if the updates should have automatically switched from nvidia-current to nvidia-current-updates, but I think they should have, base on other people's experiences (I don't own an NVIDIA card). Installing packages from the X Updates (x-swat) PPA may prevent this from occurring but you got a very similar package for that PPA anyway and it is working for you now, which is the main thing. I understand that you have locked the driver version in Synaptic to prevent being downgraded back to 295.40. You may want to remove the lock when driver version 302.xx hits that PPA, install it and then lock the version again. 302.11 beta is available for testing now (but not in that PPA), the final 302.xx driver will have a higher version suffix. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/982485 Title: [regression] Nvidia 295.40: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/982485/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Are you saying that in Unity 2D you cannot play 3D games? I'm not sure if that is to be expected or not (I haven't had time to research much info about Unity 2D), but it doesn't sound right to me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel)
unbelievable... 264 comments and counting and this is set to won't fix?! I changed from Ubuntu to Fedora 16 because of this with the latter running stable. All were pristine installs. This bug's thread is a hodge podge of different scenario's precisely because it happens IN a multitude of scenario's. Affected users can have the problem while watching video's, while working with GIMP, while browsing CPU / GPU intensive websites and so on. If anything, the bugs title and description should be updated instead of dismissing this. I can reproduce it 100% within 3 minutes by: Clean install on my MSI EX600 Either update or don't the nVidia drivers (doesn't make a difference) Open www.eurogamer.net (quite resource heavy that one) Open a digital foundry face-off article (just because it's a combination of flash, of images, video and a whole lot of comments) Scroll up and down the article. Crash within a minute! The crash is instant, no log files get updated afaik. The crash may be preceded by one or more screen flashes - as if the display is updating. This is milliseconds long, but clearly noticeable. One of the flashes eventually freezes the complete system, with a hard reset the only solution. Happens on nVidia, ATI, Intel etc. But clearly has somethign to do with the display, the LCD image updating. Quite where - I don't know. This bug is blocking for those involved. Critical for Canonical. As mentioned - I am getting used to Fedora now - one of many answers to this problem. Please update priority and status. Thanks! ** Summary changed: - ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently while watching videos (Fixed by 3.3.6 kernel) + ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 840140]
Hi all, I'm adding my case to this bug, and hope that it will help you in fixing it. If I'm wrong and my case is a separate bug, fill free to tell me so and I will fill one. I've seen similar noisy lines ever since I bought my card and used it with the opensource driver (let's say it's been 1 and half year, sorry for not filling a bug earlier...). I just tested with kernel-3.5.0-0.rc1.git0.1.fc18.x86_64.rpm, taken from the rawhide packages of Fedora, on a fully updated Fedora17 box. The bug is still present. The system booted fine, but X started with the standard driver (i.e. no acceleration). From the console, lsmod did not show any radeon module loaded. I then manually loaded radeon.ko from the module directory, and the screen went OFF (immediately). I switched (Ctrl+Alt+F2) to another console, issued systemctl isolate multi-user.target, then systemctl isolate graphical.target in order to reload X, and the picture became as in the following screenshot. I could still go back to my console, where I saw that the kernel was printing lots of backtrace. According to log timing, the backtrace is printed every 10 seconds, and I receives hundreds of time the same trace (see attachement). Since I could still use the console, I safely removed the package with rpm, and rebooted. I'm attaching : -screenshot of the bug -/var/log/message, starting at the time of insmod radeon.ko (262s). You can see what happen when I entered systemctl isolate multi-user.target and isolate graphical.target, I think it was shortly afterward, and at 302s, see the GPU lockup CP stall for more than 1msec) Then, few seconds later, one of the very many backtrace dump... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-ati in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/840140 Title: Graphical corruption then black screen using an ATI Radeon 6790 card on boot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-driver-ati/+bug/840140/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Thank you so much for your input. I will keep an eye out for the 302.xx version. On 06/05/2012 06:27 AM, madbiologist wrote: You can only attach one file at a time in Launchpad. -- *~~* Don C. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 998727] [NEW] Desktop freezes, mouse movable but no interaction
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Symptoms: Desktop freezes. A look at the clock applet indicates that display stopped refreshing. Mouse is movable, but there is no interaction. i.e, clicks do not do anything. Keyboard input does nothing. Known workaround: Switch to a tty, login, and run unity --replace. It gets fixed, but the problem may recurr after a while. How to reproduce: Some actions trigger this behaviour everytime they are done, for example, opening calibre (which doen't open, btw), or trying to delete a file (bypassing trash) from nautilus. Othertimes, it occours randomly. 1. Open nautilus, 2. Right click a file/folder, and click delete. OR, with calibre installed, 1. Open Dash 2. Search for calibre 3. Click calibre to open. Micha B: please file a new bug if the mesa update doesn't fix it for you, I'll stop following this one. Bug triagers; a bug describing 'a hang with mouse cursor moving' doesn't tell anything, so don't dupe bugs blindly. I've unduped them all now... Others: use the forums or a mirror for venting frustration. FYI, hangs like these are hw/driver specific, so me-tooing on LP with completely different setup what the original poster had results in an impossible bug to follow/fix. This bug is fixed upstream in kernel 3.5-rc1. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 898784] Re: Distorted screen on MacBook Air 3, 2 (GT216 10de:08a3)
Yes, assuming that is the relevant patch. I have not done any compilation, but the code is in a file called nouveau_connector.c and 3.4 and 3.5 are similar enough to do a backport. In the Precise kernel 3.2 the code is very different. However, right now I don't really see the point. Precise works fine with a 3.3 kernel and I assume Quantal will use 3.5 or 3.6. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@Timo: I understand that the bug is difficult to describe and that the plethora of different descriptions make it difficult to debug / pinpoint, hence address. It does not mean canonical or the community should not keep track of it. This is not venting frustration - although it also is. This is a genuine bug report, which made me move to Fedora (for the time being), since Ubuntu is plain and simply unusable at the moment. If this kind of stability is your first encounter with Ubuntu / Linux, you'll never return. I checked out bug reports and sorted them on heat. The first bug is Microsoft has a majority stake on OS installs. Hardly a bug which you can repro as well, is it? Yet that keeps open. I suppose as an inside joke, but still, this bug will NOT help reach that goal... Reopen and have it addressed. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1001539] Re: Nvidia 295.53: Unity 3D does not work at all with the new nvidia driver
No. Want I wanted to say is that 3d stuff was working on ubuntu 10.04 with the same hardware (Nvidia GeForce Go 7300) and older driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 954661] Re: backlight brightness not adjustable by default on Dell XPS 13
Upstream developer Daniel Vetter has developed a more sophisticated backlight patch set which fixes this problem for the Dell XPS 13z. I have updated my DellXPS kernel PPA to include this new patch set since it will likely appear in the mainline kernel soon (the new kamal1 version of the PPA kernel is queued to build, and will become available within the next day or so): https://launchpad.net/~kamalmostafa/+archive/dellxps Note that the new PPA kernel NO LONGER includes the i915.enable_backlight kernel boot parameter -- it is no longer necessary for the Dell XPS 13z. Hopefully it is likewise no longer necessary for other systems which saw improvement with the old kernel... @Thomas Lärm (rundablage) - Please advise whether the new kamal1 version PPA kernel still fixes your brightness control on your Panasonic CF-18! [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993525] Re: [Dell Precision M6500 with ATI chipset] Suspending by closing the lid corrupts display
I'm no longer able to reproduce this, not sure what happened, my system seems to be the same (it was reinstalled several times though, with Oneiric and Quantal). Anyway, I installed 12.04 again, with kernel 3.2.0-23.36 and fglrx 8.960-0ubuntu1, and the system correctly restores the display when I close and then open the lid. I see the corruption pattern I mentioned *briefly* when the screen powers up after suspend, but then the desktop correctly restores and I'm able to continue doing stuff. To try and reproduce the bug I tried to plug in an external screen and do resolution changes, which are about the only display-related operations I may have done prior to the original report, but no go. I still can't reproduce it. I'll mark as Invalid based on this. Thanks and sorry for the time spent on this bug. ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu Precise) Status: Incomplete = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993525 Title: [Dell Precision M6500 with ATI chipset] Suspending by closing the lid corrupts display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/993525/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009179] [NEW] Xorg crashes randomly and resumes to the login screen
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Xorg crashes randomly and resumes to the login screen. I found some discussion linking this problem to the NVIDIA driver (http://forum .ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=898971), but I am using open driver and have no NVIDIA card... Other people in the same discussion have the same problem than I have and some even moved away form Ubuntu for that (losing work randomly is quite unacceptable). I have the impression that the crash occurs more often after a resume (following a suspend) and more in Ubuntu session than Ubuntu 2D. I am ready to provide any further information, but I do not know which one at this stage. Waiting for question. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
I'm having the same issue running Precise on my X61s with gma965. Like afaguila, the problem doesn't occur when I spend via the power menu. Fun thing is that if I set power management to do nothing when the lid is closed, the problem occurs when closing and opening the lid without sleep. This leads me to believe it my be an issue related to the lid- close event.
