[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010766] [NEW] NVIDIA Ion Overscan Rendering & Settings Retention Problems
Public bug reported: I'm encountering 2 related issues with overscan on my HTPC (Zotac NVIDIA Ion mobo), which I'm using with a 73" Mitsubishi DLP TV. The machine's running Xubuntu 12.04 x64. My NVIDIA driver version is 295.40-0ubuntu1. First, overscan settings are not retained across reboots at times (there is no clear pattern for when they're lost). When they're not, the overscan adjustment option is no longer available in the NVIDIA settings app, as can be seen in the following sets of screenshots: http://i.stack.imgur.com/lXg2s.png (option is available) http://i.stack.imgur.com/uBIRc.png (option is lost after reboot) Second, when playing video using VDPAU hardware decoding (in SMPlayer, in my case) with overscan correction applied, after a short (~10 mins) but arbitrary period of time, display output is almost completely lost from the screen, except for a small strip at the top. The size of the strip depends on the amount of overscan correction that has been applied. When no correction is applied, this does not happen at all. When full correction is applied, the output is completely lost. Since my DLP TV's screen is slightly curved, full overscan correction is not applied, meaning that a small strip of display output can be observed at the top. If I manage to blindly return to the NVIDIA settings app and reduce the overscan, the size of the visible strip will increase, until the whole screen is visible when overscan has been removed entirely. The problem goes away entirely when X is restarted. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
So today I went dockless... actually the only external device connected was my USB headset. And I had yet another freeze. Curiously, it was during a VoIP call. Perhaps this bug is some nasty regression that gets triggered when an external device is in use on systems with Intel graphics? I find it suspicious that every crash I've experienced happens either when moving the mouse or yaking on my VoIP. @Timo... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010557] Re: Only small corner of the screen usable
I've attached a picture of it. Should clear up any misunderstandings. ** Description changed: I presume the bug is in xorg since it affects everything - even the Ubuntu boot screen. As the summary says, only a small portion of the screen is used. It's not that it's invisible - the mouse pointer, all UI elements etc. stops at the edge - it's simply as if my screen is tiny. To clarify: My physical screen is now divided up into four parts, only the top left of which is used by Ubuntu, the rest are black or filled with more or less interesting colors. Ubuntu behaves as if my display consisted solely of its top left corner and displays accordingly. Bug was not a problem in 10.11 - Bug has been a problem in 11.04 and 12.04 + Bug is a problem in 11.04 and 12.04 -Other versions unknown. If i use the ATI-Graphiccard i can suspend (wich takes a longer time than with the Intel one) however I can't resume. I get a blank/black screen and can't change brightness. Plus I can't switch to any tty. I've tried this instructions to find an error: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspend but it dosn't seem to bring relevant informations (however, I'll add the dmesg.txt to this bugreport) PS: to switch between graphiccards, I use "vga_switcheroo" and i have "vanilla"-ubuntu, no third party software. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1010557] [NEW] Only small corner of the screen usable
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I presume the bug is in xorg since it affects everything - even the Ubuntu boot screen. Bug was not a problem in 10.11 Bug has been a problem in 11.04 and 12.04 -Other versions unknown. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962712] Re: Battery charging slows down my thinkpad severely
When I jumped for 11.XX to 12.04 LTS, the problem seemed to have subsided to a slight extent. I dont know how far is this true, but this is just my observation. Because I can still do something, and its not a 100% clogged CPU. Its pretty strange that such a huge bug is still unassigned by Ubuntu.
