[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
Please try with a mainline kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ You can start from 3.4.3, then if that one works 'bisect' backwards to see which kernel fixed it. If 3.4.3 is broken, then try 3.5-rc3. Let us know how it goes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot
Upgraded to version 2.5.1 of xdiagnose from precise-proposed (was installed as version 2.5) Can't see that you have prescribed just what to do with it, but installing and ticking off the debug options did not change the behaviour. NB - the error at my laptop is quite similar to this, but intermittent on boot, it only occurs about half of the time, and not necessarily right away. It is very frequent on resume from suspend, and almost certain to occur on resume from suspend with 2 X sessions active. There also seems to be a genuine gpu or other X related bug sometimes, which messes up the screen and eventually brings down compiz, and it is hard to tell which is which. The Xorg logs from before the upgrade of xdiagnose and the debug options have hung GPU entries, the present Xorg log does not. But the pop-up panel symptom was definitely there anyway. root@byttevora:~# ls -l /var/log/X* -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 35511 Jun 19 09:21 /var/log/Xorg.0.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 35333 Jun 19 09:19 /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 35819 Jun 19 07:01 /var/log/Xorg.1.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 36557 Jun 18 07:36 /var/log/Xorg.1.log.old -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 40082 Jun 18 19:11 /var/log/Xorg.2.log -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 52957 Jun 13 14:54 /var/log/Xorg.2.log.old root@byttevora:~# grep '(EE)' /var/log/X* /var/log/Xorg.0.log:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. /var/log/Xorg.1.log:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 17290.426] (EE) intel(0): Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration. /var/log/Xorg.1.log:[ 17290.426] (EE) intel(0): When reporting this, please include i915_error_state from debugfs and the full dmesg. /var/log/Xorg.1.log.old:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. /var/log/Xorg.2.log:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. /var/log/Xorg.2.log:[ 34773.156] (EE) intel(0): Detected a hung GPU, disabling acceleration. /var/log/Xorg.2.log:[ 34773.213] (EE) intel(0): When reporting this, please include i915_error_state from debugfs and the full dmesg. /var/log/Xorg.2.log.old:(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. root@byttevora:~# Will now try the workarounds disable bootloader graphics and disable VESA framebuffer driver. The PAT memory workaround seems to be targeted on proprietary drivers, while this system has an Intel driver which AFAIK is not proprietary. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015015] [NEW] Xorg freezes once a day, mouse and SSH still works
Public bug reported: About once a day, Xorg freezes on me. Running Xubuntu 12.04 on a dell L502X laptop. The mouse is still moveable and I am able to SSH into the laptop but suspend/resume or using ctrl-alt-F1 and ctrl-alt-F7 does not work anymore. I use the acpi_call module to disable the second GPU (nVidia) as it cuts down the fan noise and saves energy/battery. I had hopes the 3.2.0-25-generic kernel would bring a fix to this (see bug 975689) but it keeps occurring. Incidentally but regularly (about once every 1-2 days). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948954] Re: Black Screen With Xorg fglrx
I use iMac 21.5 (mid 2010). I have exactly the same problem with quantal build 12.10. I can boot into text. I can build the fglrx driver against the 3.4 kernel, on today's update. If I let X use flgrx then I get a black screen (suspect this is a regression of the same KMS problem - choosing the wrong display port on this mac - that afflicted 12.04). Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Reviewing your dmesg attachment in this bug report it seems that there is a problem with your hardware. I recommend performing a back up and then investigating the situation. Measures you might take include checking cable connections and using software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] [NEW] Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor
Public bug reported: I already submitted this at http://askubuntu.com/questions/153043/ but decided to update to the latest development snapshot in order to give that a try and write a proper bug report if the issue persists. It does persist. My setup is a quantal alpha 1, just upgraded from precise, with an Acer T231H multitouch monitor connected to it, as well as an ordinary mouse for testing. The mouse events as X sends them to the applications are inconsitent. This can be debugged using xev. The first touch of the screen is preceeded by a MotionNotify event which already has state 0x100, i.e. left mouse button pressed. After that comes a ButtonPress event, again with state 0x100 although that value should indicate the state of the buttons before the event occurred. The subsequent drag is all right, and the ButtonRelease as well, but the 0x100 bit in the state value will never become zero again. Even if I've got an ordinary mouse connected as well, it will henceforth report every movement as if I were keeping the left mouse button down. The only cure that I could find was restarting the X server. Together with the ButtonPress and ButtonRelease events, this constant bit for left mouse button amounts to an inconsistent reporting of button state. Java applications e.g. will report every move as a drag due to this issue, with severe implications for focus management. This makes using differenent parts of the application almost impossible, as mouse movement will only be reported to the component where the mouse entered the application window. Since reporting at askubuntu, I've run some tests with evtest. The data coming from the event device looks sane enough: BTN_TOUCH events for the first finger, with value 1 for pressed and 0 for released. ABS_MT_TRACKING_ID for all fingers, with a non-negative value for pressed and -1 for released. The grouping into syn groups looks sane as well. So I'd say the kernel driver works as intended, and somewhere from there to the xevent layer, some internal state gets messed up. I'm willing to try out any patches you might propose, be it in an attempt to fix this, or only to gather more information. Expected behaviour: MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse MotionNotify with state 0x000 for move prior to touch, or no event at all ButtonPress with state 0x000 when touching the screen MotionNotify with state 0x100 while dragging the finger ButtonRelease with state 0x100 when lifting the finger MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse afterwards Actual behaviour: MotionNotify with state 0x000 when dragging the ordinary mouse before the first touch MotionNotify with state 0x100 for prior to ButtonPress event ButtonPress with state 0x100 when touching the screen MotionNotify with state 0x100 while dragging the finger ButtonRelease with state 0x100 when lifting the finger MotionNotify with state 0x100 when dragging the ordinary mouse afterwards ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.10 Package: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu2 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.4.0-5.11-generic 3.4.0 Uname: Linux 3.4.0-5-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.2.3-0ubuntu5 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDmesg: [7.381404] ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready Date: Tue Jun 19 17:56:46 2012 DistUpgraded: 2012-06-19 17:51:23,756 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: quantal DistroVariant: ubuntu InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Precise Pangolin - Release amd64 (20120425) ProcEnviron: TERM=xterm PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.4.0-5-generic root=UUID=88133c52-550c-4c43-9da5-15f180bdb767 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xserver-xorg-input-evdev UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to quantal on 2012-06-19 (0 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 09/22/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: 4.6.4 dmi.board.name: AMD HUDSON-M1 dmi.board.vendor: ZOTAC dmi.chassis.type: 3 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvr4.6.4:bd09/22/2011:svn:pn:pvr:rvnZOTAC:rnAMDHUDSON-M1:rvr:cvn:ct3:cvr: version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.7.8-0ubuntu3 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.33-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 8.0.3-0ubuntu1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 8.0.3-0ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu11 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.0-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:6.14.99~git20111219.aacbd629-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.19.0-1ubuntu1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20120614+36d3f8c-1 ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-evdev (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug

Hi all - I was starting to redo the dkms patch, but it looks like Brian's taking that. Thanks for the Thanks. :) For future ref, I have email addresses on my LP page, so this makes me wonder if they're properly visible. There are two, anyway, and edward.dono...@numble.net would be the better one to use. The launchpad@numble is where bug mail goes, for filtering. Maybe that's not the smoothest way to do it. (Maybe this process question is best asked somewhere else; I don't know.) I'm also a uncertain, after reading your comments, if the patches should be redone, to work better with python 2 or 3, as you're talking about. When there was a print statement in these hooks, my little patches just made it a python 3 function, with parentheses. I was just thinking about python 3 compatibility, and didn't add any from __future__ import print_statement lines. Would it be best to redo them, that way? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015267] [NEW] X server freezes: NULL pointer deferenced
Public bug reported: System is a Dell Studio XPS 435mt with ATI FireGL 7750, fully updated, with proprietary drivers (v8.960), and two monitors with xinerama enabled. You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have installed many computers, mostly oldies, with Ubuntu - sofar 100% success. Lately I was trying to install a pc with FX5200 of Nvidia. I installed the 3 avilable drivers, and also degraded from 8.10 to 8.04 - and the result is the same: the resolution without Nvidia driver is 800x600, with Nvidia driver 640x480, and never above these resolutions. The same was with 8.10 or 8.04 The same PC was working well before with Windows XP. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015297] [NEW] Screen partially darkened after suspend and resume in Xubuntu
Public bug reported: 3 days ago after the most recent kernel update, my computer wouldn't start and got stuck on the screen reporting that it couldn't detect the hardware and start X. I reinstalled Ubuntu and the Xubuntu desktop, and somehow I am no longer getting that error, but now whenever I suspend and resume Xubuntu, the whole desktop is darkened as if there's a layer of semi-transparent black over everything. The mouse cursor is still completely white, so I know it's not a monitor brightness issue. If I suspend and resume again, it's twice as dark, as if there are now two semi-transparent black layers over the screen. When I restart or log out and back in again, it's back to normal until I suspend again. It doesn't happen every time I suspend--just most of the time. I have no idea what package this is actually a problem with. It may have something to do with XFCE. I tried killing and restarting metacity and that didn't help, and neither did killing the screensaver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986371] [NEW] Regression in nvidia-graphics-drivers causes freezes in combination with gnome-screensaver
You have been subscribed to a public bug: The security update of the nvidia graphics driver causes a problem on my system (GeForce 8800 GTS): When the screen is locked (using gnome-screensaver) the screen freezes for about 30 seconds. The same thing happens, when the screen is unlocked. This problem appeared after installing the security updates advised by USN-1420-1 ( nvidia-173-modaliases_173.14.22-0ubuntu11.1, nvidia- current_195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.2 and nvidia-current- modaliases_195.36.24-0ubuntu1~10.04.2). When downgrading to the original package versions (nvidia-173-modaliases_173.14.20-0ubuntu5, nvidia- current_195.36.15-0ubuntu2 and nvidia-current- modaliases_195.36.15-0ubuntu2), the problem vanishes. After installing the updated versions again, it reappears. This bug is reproducible: It occurs every time the screen is locked or unlocked as long as the newer versions of the before-mentioned packages are installed. While this bug is not critical (the system only freezes for 30 to 60 seconds), it is very annoying, in particular because it is a regression introduced with a security update. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015305] [NEW] lockup on resume after suspend on T420s
Public bug reported: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 The laptop always locks up when trying to resume after suspend when X is running on the proprietary NVIDIA drivers. I installed Precise from scratch on a Thinkpad T420s with NVIDIA Optimus. The BIOS is configured to Discrete graphics, i.e. Optimus is turned off, and the NVIDIA video card is turned on, and it is the only card visible from Linux. After the installation, I added the proprietary NVIDIA drivers and rebooted. This gave me nvidia-current-updates 295.49-0ubuntu0.1 I then suspend the machine, either by closing the lid, hitting Fn+F4, selecting suspend from the system menu, or running pm-suspend. When I then resume the machine, either by hitting Fn or by opening the lid, the LCD backlight comes back on but remains black, and the machine freezes. After a while, the CPU fan hits max. I cannot SSH into the machine. There is a link light on the Ethernet, but no activity light. This problem persists also with other versions of the NVIDIA driver, such as nvidia-current 302.17-0ubuntu1~precise~xup1. The problem disappears if I switch to Integrated Graphics, and use the intel driver. I have found no obvious way to get at the syslog or Xorg log files to get an indication of what or how this locks up. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 779502] [NEW] Nvidia proprietary driver has problems with fine tuning in full resolution
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Binary package hint: nvidia-common I don't know if this is the best place for reporting the bug, since it's a proprietary driver. If so, please tell me where I can report this. When running the proprietary Nvidia driver in full resolution (in my case, 1368x768), we have problems in fine tuning. Some characters and vertical lines appear to be tinier than normal, or blurred. This bug is not present when running the opensource driver (but the proprietary is needed for achieving 3D acceleration), as well as in the proprietary driver with lower resolutions - e. g. 1024x768. I have an AOC 1943W monitor. I changed all the things what would be possible for solving the problems, but no success. Only if I use the opensource driver instead. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 770219] [NEW] Windows moving becomes slow and urgly after severeral times of xorg modes switch
You have been subscribed to a public bug: After several times of xorg modes switch windows starts moving not smoothly (like refresh rated down to 25 ~ 30 fps), but without tearing. This happens in system with nvidia-current blod driver, compiz sync to vblank - enabled, comiz detect refresh rate - disabled, compiz refresh rate - 60. Also the shadow for focused windows draws as shadow for unfocused windows (When system starts - the shadow for active window is rather wide then for unfocused one - looks great). ** Affects: unity Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid ** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Confirmed ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- Windows moving becomes slow and urgly after severeral times of xorg modes switch https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/770219 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
