[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard

2012-06-20 Thread Dominique Meeùs
Sorry, pushed some wrong key.

[The choice…] was between 2.5-1ubuntu1 (precise) and 2.5-1ubuntu2
(precise-proposed). On https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuUpdates,
I read: « Enabling the proposed updates repository can break your
system. It is not recommended for inexperienced users. » I didn’t know
this. I unchecked Proposed in my updates choices for the future.

The update was introducing "level5(rctrl_switch)" in response to a long
complicated discussion
(https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15804) about some
applications using some Ctrl+space shortcut. To me it seems that
everybody expects to have two Ctrl keys on a regular PC keyboard.
Suppressing the right Ctrl should be an option for those who need it,
not the default.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 987584] Re: Cannot access Unity 3D while ATI graphics driver is installed on 12.04

2012-06-20 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks Darcy. That's a new one to me, but Google shows a lot of people
with the same problem using the fglrx driver.

I know there are installation and uninstallation problems with the fglrx
driver causing the wrong GLX libraries to be present and rendering
OpenGL useless.

Please try:
  1. Run jockey-gtk and uninstall the FGLRX Radeon driver.
  2. In a terminal, run: sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx
  3. Reboot
Then you should at least have a clean system and maybe the built-in radeon
driver will work for you.

If that's not enough then also try:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015305] Re: lockup on resume after suspend on T420s

2012-06-20 Thread User Unknown
Seems like it's the same issue as this one:
http://askubuntu.com/questions/153691/screen-doesnt-display-after-
resume-using-x-swat-nvidia-drivers

And Bryn there mentioned a thread in the nV News forums, apparently
discussing this very same issue that seems to have started/regressed
with version 302.07 of the driver (and the same or a very similar issue
was already present and then fixed in older versions):
http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=179956

I'm affected by this issue, as well, though I'm on Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS
x86_64, with Linux kernel version 2.6.38-13-generic and version
302.17-0ubuntu1~lucid~xup3 of the NVidia driver. Before the update, I
was on 295.53-0ubuntu1~lucid~xup1, where I did *not* have this issue.

Let's hope NVidia gets us a fix soon. Rebooting is just so annoying! ;)

Oh, the Ubuntu-X-Swat team asks to contact them for questions and bugs with
software from their PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat
Maybe they can also do something?

Regards,
uu

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015292] Re: QT5 based applications fails with a segmentation fault with Pandaboard and the SGX driver

2012-06-20 Thread Ricardo Salveti
If the pointer is also checked at the xorg side, it works as expected.
Tested with the patch:

commit 6e83934da0288e9a182c0f7982871ea5eaff1cec
Author: Ricardo Salveti de Araujo
Date: Wed Jun 20 20:19:09 2012 -0300

randr: first check pSrcPriv before using the pointer at RRFirstOutput

Fix a seg fault in case pSrcPriv fails to be allocated at
ProcRRGetScreenInfo, which later calls RRFirstOutput.

Hi, there!

I'm here because I DON'T have a Nvidia Graphic card, but AMD. So I'm with this
same problem, specially when using Chromium.
I tried to reinstall the entire Ubuntu, when I came back, it started again, so
I removed the xorg-edgers ppa and then my Ubuntu was gone to 2D, I tried to
reinstall the open source drivers and nothing worked well...

Please, find a fix for this quickly, I don't want to use Windows anymore

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013881] Re: Right-Ctrl key broken on French OSS keyboard

It is probably because the config file for Belgian OSS include French OSS.
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~alexeyten/xkeyboard-config/master/view/1477/symbols/be
 line 69

"Forcer la version" ;
– et enfin fermez votre session et ouvrez-en une nouvelle.

Longue vie au Ctrl-droit !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941953] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in WriteToClient() with buf = 0x100000000 from ProcXIGetProperty()

2012-06-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
** Description changed:

- This crash occurred on resume from suspend (to RAM) on a precise box up-
- to-date as of Feb 24.
+ [Impact]
+ Crash bug and silent memory corruption due to out of bounds access that may
not be noticed until much much later, in which case it's fatal.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ The easiest is running with valgrind, starting X and then while doing touch
motions launch /etc/X11/Xsession and disable/enable touchpad with the keyboard
fn keys.
+ 1. Start X (either with or without valgrind attached)
+ 2. Start doing motions with 2 fingers and simultaneously launch
/etc/X11/Xsession through ssh. If you're running valgrind, you will see a out
of bound access.
+ 3. Disable touchpad through builtin keys.
+ Broken Behavior: X will die due to memory corrupted memory being freed
+ Fixed Behavior: X survives
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The fixed package is upstream as 1.6.1-1ubuntu2, but this is in fact 1.6.2-1
without the commit tagging it as such. As such a few weeks of testing has
already been done by quantal users. The package will also fix jumpy cursor
behavior after suspend on some macbooks.
+
+ [Original Report]
+ This crash occurred on resume from suspend (to RAM) on a precise box
up-to-date as of Feb 24.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997095] Re: Computer with Radeon HD 6310 boots up to black screen with 12.04

2012-06-20 Thread madbiologist
Firstly, instead of a "basic graphics" mode, you can boot Ubuntu with
the "nomodeset" kernel boot option added to your GRUB command line. See
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/Troubleshooting#Editing_the_GRUB_2_Menu_During_Boot

Secondly, I can boot and use Ubuntu 12.04 on a HP Compaq laptop with
Radeon HD 6310 graphics (without using nomodeset), so it could be
something to do with the kernel's detection/setup of your laptop's
display panel. I don't suppose you know whether it is an eDP or not?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 788021] Re: Radeon HD 6310 (amd e-350 zacate) needs nomodeset

2012-06-20 Thread madbiologist
As Mario said, xserver-xorg-video-ati 6.14.3 completes the fix for this
bug. From the changelog:

radeon: add support for llano APUs
radeon: add llano pci ids

This first appeared as a backport in Oneiric in xserver-xorg-video-ati
1:6.14.2-1ubuntu2 and was then mainstreamed in later Oneiric packages.

I have also verified that Ubuntu 12.04 "Precise Pangolin" boots and
functions normally on a laptop with an E-350 and Radeon HD 6310
graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009629] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeliverRawEvent()

2012-06-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
Crashes the X.org server for some people several times a day.

  [Test Case]
  1. Start Xephyr
  2. killall Xephyr
Broken Behavior: Aborts with SIGSEGV and a backtrace
  Fixed Behavior: Exits cleanly

  [Regression Potential]
- Will regress LP #968845 so more work needs to be done on that.
- Since this is effectively a rollback to 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.1
- I expect no further side effects.
+ Reverting the patch from 10.2 will regress LP #968845,
+ but adding patches from the X-server git tree seems to
+ fix the issue. Any xserver bug reports will have to be
+ watched closely, especially if they mention suspend/resume.
+ The x server git tree will have to be watched as well,
+ in case any fixes/crashes related to the code are fixed there.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 979307] Re: /dev/nvidia* is world writable

2012-06-20 Thread Marc Deslauriers
How about adding nvidia* to /lib/udev/rules.d/70-udev-acl.rules and
getting permissions added by consolekit?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015183] Re: Inconsistent mouse events for Acer T231H multitouch monitor

2012-06-20 Thread Martin von Gagern
I had hoped that backing
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/xserver/commit/?id=634b0da9a83076d0e9e0fc44dc5dc77b0c368bc1
out of the xorg server core code base might be enough to solve this, but
if I do so, core events never have any buttons set in their state, so
that is not a solution. Nevertheless, it might well be that this problem
lies somewhere inside the xorg server itself, and not the evdev driver
module. Although I haven't yet pinpointed the location in the sources
where that state is managed, it seems to me as if the evdev code were
pretty stateless, submitting only button press and release events as
appropriate. And as those apparently arrive correctly at xev, the state
management appears to be wrong for some other reason.

Searching for ways to obtain more information, I just ran "xinput test-
xi2 2" where 2 is the id of my virtual core pointer. When I drag my
finger inside the test window, here is what I see in the console (after
enlarging my scrollback appropriately):

 - DeviceChanged due to SlaveSwitch
 - RawTouchBegin
 - Enter, buttons: (empty)
 - Motion (emulated), buttons: 1
 - ButtonPress (emulated), buttons: 1
 - Motion (emulated), buttons: 1, repeated while dragging
 - ButtonRelease (emulated), buttons: 1
 - TouchBegin, buttons: (empty)
 - TouchUpdate: buttons: (empty), repeated to mimic the original drag

There are a number of things very strange about this:
 - The whole TouchBegin/TouchUpdate sequence only gets emitted after I release
my finger.
 - The TouchBegin does not have a matching TouchEnd. Very likely this causes
the error in core event state.
 - After I release my finger, the mouse cursor jumps to the location where I
began my drag.
This behaviour is only within the xinput test window, outside the cursor
will stay at the end of a drag.

Repeating the test for input device 9, which is the touch screen, I see this:
 - RawTouchBegin
 - Motion (emulated), button: 1
 - TouchBegin, buttons: (empty)
 - ButtonPress (emulated), buttons: 1
 - RawTouchUpdate
 - TouchUpdate, buttons: (empty)
 - Motion (emulated), buttons: 1
 - The preceeding three events repeated in this order for the duration of the
drag
 - RawTouchEnd
 - TouchEnd, buttons: (empty)
 - ButtonRelease (emulated), buttons: 1

So here the Touch events are delivered in sync with the Motion events,
there is a TouchEnd where one would expect it to be. The jumping of the
mouse cursor to the position where the drag began still remains, though.

To me this looks a lot as if the events made it into the dix layer all
right, but the emulation of a core pointer based on these events is
somehow broken. For this reason, I now believe the problem to lie within
the xserver-xorg-core binary package.

"xinput test 2" does not work at all ("unable to find device 2"),
whereas "xinput test 9" shows pretty sane behaviour: a single motion
followed by a button press 1 at the beginning, a sequence of motion
events during the drag, and a button release 1 at the end. When launched
with the -proximity flag, it complains of a bad request and terminates
immediately. Makes sense, as this device doesn't provide any proximity
information.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1007765] Re: brightness adjusting crashes system

2012-06-20 Thread Elco
I'm having the same problem the video is showing.

Has the kernel-update being refered to in #32 already landed? If not,
will this happen automatically or do I really have to manually install
it? I'm asking because I'm not sure if I'm technically skilled enough to
start messing with kernels. Then again, this bug makes my laptop
virtually unusable (every time you accidentaly hit one of the
brightness-keys it crashes and I have to reboot).

In case I do have to install the kernel manually, I just have to install
the two debs from http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-
ppa/mainline/v3.4-precise/, the headers and the image and then I just
reboot?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015599] [NEW] Xorg freeze

Public bug reported:

I have a GeForce 8500GT 512MB PCIe graphics card in now and everything
runs fine when I tried to upgrade to the GeForce 210 1GB PCIe card
Ubuntu would not load and gave me the message:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-06-20 Thread markb
Re comment #133 above from wlx, I have experienced this problem with my
8600 GT card on all nvidia versions since I installed ubuntu 12.04, i.e.
295.40 and all versions through to 302.17. I have tried the installers
from nvidia site, and also xorg-edgers ppa. I never had this problem in
the 4 years before 12.04. For me, X will not run longer than an hour or
so before it crashes, usually when I am just using a couple of terminals
and the browser in Gnome Shell (no video or flash playing).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1000162] Re: graphic corruption in 12.04 LTS with radeon driver

2012-06-20 Thread Aurelien Naldi
On the same hardware, Fedora 17 does not have these problems.
I'll keep the ubuntu install to test proposed fixes or the next version, but I
guess I'll start using fedora for real...

Note that Ubuntu 12.04 works fine for me on other computers (intel
integrated graphics)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1009629] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in DeliverRawEvent()

2012-06-20 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ Crashes the X.org server for some people several times a day.

+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Start Xephyr
+ 2. killall Xephyr
+ Broken Behavior: Aborts with SIGSEGV and a backtrace

I see this bug with stock 12.04 and Unity on a Thinkpad T400 (Intel

Fixes the problem for me as well. This was driving me nuts as clicking
on buttons sometimes didn't work because it was interpreted as a mouse
drag event.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1013171] Re: Many package hooks not ported to python3

2012-06-20 Thread Martin Pitt
@Edward:

> For future ref, I have email addresses on my LP page, so this makes me
wonder if they're properly visible.

They are not. https://launchpad.net/~edward.donovan says "No public
address provided.", I figure you need to agree to showing them in
public. It's certainly a sensible default to not show them, as an email
address on a public web page attracts a lot of spam.

As for the print statement, print() works just as well in Python 2 as
long as you don't use commas in there; if you do, it prints a tuple
instead. So these are fine:

  print('hello')
  print('hello %s' % world)

but this needs the __future__ statement or need to be rewritten to have
one single argument:

  print('hello', 'world')
