Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 960089] Re: Scroll wheel doesn't scroll in AbiWord

2012-06-30 Thread msevior
Dear Christopher and canoncial,

It iflls me with frustration that Canonical chose to distribute our
development version of abiword, abiword-2.9.2 with your 12.04 LTS
distribution. This was done without any consultation with the abiword
community AT ALL. Please revert to version 2.8.6. Failing this please
advise how we will be able to support our users on Ubuntu as Canoncial
does not release updates either.

Best regards,

Martin Sevior

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 381884] Re: Appletouch touchpad driver produces jumpy two-fingered scrolling

2012-06-30 Thread Matthew Hielscher
This bug is still in effect in Xubuntu 12.04, xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics 1.6.0-0ubuntu1-precise1 on my MacBook1,1. Placing a second
finger on the trackpad causes immediate scrolling to the right and up -
where my second finger is relative to the first. Removing that finger
causes the cursor to move down and to the left.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985975] Re: [wacom]: won't calibrate X220t

2012-06-30 Thread Richard Brown
@Razvan. It's low priority because there are other ways to calibrate the
tablet (but not as pleasant as a decent gui).

The method I use is to manually set the "Area" parameter using xsetwacom
- making small iterative adjustments until I get a decent calibration.
Because of the edge effects on the x220t, I find this works better than
the values returned by xinput-calibrator (but you should perhaps try
this too). If you want further help getting it working, let me know

2012-06-30 Thread Hydrathe
Excuse my delay, I was isolated due to final term exams.

I am a beginner, so I am not sure if I got this correctly, but you need
the source code of the package and the command line options to compile
it? If that's the case how may I get them? The report was automatically
created when the update failed, so I don't really know how to diagnose
this problem with Apport.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 947354] Re: Synaptics Soft Button Areas not working in HP Envy 14 Clickpad

2012-06-30 Thread sean.h.m...@gmail.com
Your folder structure shows usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/

you should create a new directory:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d

also have you checked to see via synclient if your touchpad is being
recognised as clickpad:

synclient -l

if it says Clickpad=0 then your touchpad is not being recognised as a
clickpad to enable this:

synclient Clickpad=1

to permanently add this as an option you can do either fo 2 things:

1. create a shell script:

/!#/bin/bash

sleep 3

synclient Clickpad=1

end

###

then add to your start up applications

or

you can add the clickpad option into the 51clickpad.conf file which is
placed in the new created directory /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/:

Section "InputClass"
Identifier "Default clickpad buttons"
MatchDriver "synaptics"
Option "ClickPad" "true"
Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "0"
Option "SoftButtonAreas" "50% 0 82% 0 0 0 0 0"

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985975] Re: [wacom]: won't calibrate X220t

2012-06-30 Thread Razvan GHITESCU
I confirm this bug, I also have a Lenovo Thinkpad x220t running Ubuntu
12.04. Unfortunately, I saw you assigned a low importance to this and I
don't understand why. This is a major bug that prevents the full use of
ubuntu 12.03 on tablets such as ours. In the absence of proper
calibration, calling the laucher from the left edge is virtually
impossible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 946677] Re: UMS dri support missing for r200

2012-06-30 Thread ojordan
I've found a better way to deal with the unmiminising crashing with
Kwin. In System Settings > Desktop Effects > Advanced there is a settng
for "Keep window thumbnails". If you change that to "Always (Breaks
minimization)" then it cures the crashing. It still allows
minimistation, but (from a bit of googling) it just handles the
minimisation differently. Sorted!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-30 Thread Chauncellor
** Description changed:

This happens intermittently. Sometimes upon resume, all I see is a black
screen and the cursor. the mouse and keyboard respond (the mouse moves)
but nothing changes. Switching to console and back doesn't fix it.
Killing Compiz also does not fix the issue. Further, if one has password
lock disabled on resume the user will be stuck with a frozen display of
whatever was last shown on the screen before suspend. The mouse cursor
still changes as you hover over various elements but the display is
frozen solid. One can switch to another TTY via ctrl+alt+F1 but killing
the X session is the only way to get back to the desktop.

Attempts to replace compiz have been fruitless. Trying the 3.4 kernel
also did not fix the issue.

BTW, I haven nothing connected to the laptop when I resume and before
suspend. This is a very annoying issue because the only way to recover
is to reboot, which means all the open files will be lost.
+
+ [UPDATE]
+ It was discovered that switching to a tty, killing compiz, then invoking
'metacity --replace' would successfully switch over to metacity. Attempting to
invoke 'compiz --replace' afterwards would put the state right back where it
was (frozen screen, etc.) and output error messages saying something similar to
"invalid configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a
bug report about it". After killing Compiz again and invoking compiz --replace
yet again I can get basic window management back (though unity --replace still
does not work as it whines about unclean exit states). So one still needs to
start over again to get it all functioning properly.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-30 Thread Chauncellor
Indeed, it does appear that compiz can be killed and metacity replaced
after some wiggling around a TTY once it hits. I am currently running
metacity's window decorator. And, indeed, running compiz --replace once
I can get the desktop usable again will bring it back to a 'frozen'
state with the cursor changing as necessary for window management again.
It also spews out error messages that says something like "invalid
configuration, this should never happen, you should probably raise a bug
report about it".

After an additional metacity --replace, however, I was able to smudge
compiz back in there, although I could not get Unity back up and running
(was complaining about unknown exit status of the other program).

As some people also had this issue with gnome shell, I feel that it may
be bad interaction between xorg and drivers for compositing (but what do
I know). I was getting invalid page flips from my dmesg when debugging
in the xorg bug report (the developer just kind of disappeared and
hasn't replied).

I don't mean to be a prude to the compiz devs (I know they're very busy)
But for the meantime I am going to bump up importance to 'critical' as
the bug has 'a severe impact on a large portion of Ubuntu users' and
'crashes the entire operating system'. They'll decide better than I once
they look at it, though (for all I know, it still isn't in compiz).

   Importance: High => Critical

** Also affects: compiz-core
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1016908] Re: Xorg-server Package removes other packages

2012-06-30 Thread Dave Gilbert
This seems to be fixed in current Quantal; if your previous upgrades broke it
in this way then you'll need to
reinstall the xservers that disappeared; certainly I can now install

xserver-xorg-video-radeon and xserver-xorg-video-ati and I'm back with
a working accelerated X (Note you need the -ati as well!)

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096

I do not think it is a duplicate of bug #973096. #973096 is only about
NVidia cards. This is more about ATI.

I am using 12.04, I experienced random logs off multiple times. I have a dell
laptop, 64bit architecture, with ATI card.
The problem was occurring when I had installed proprietary drivers, i.e.,
sudo apt-get install fglrx fglrx-amdcccle
The problem stopped occurring when I installed hardware acceleration, i.e.,
sudo apt-get install xvba-va-driver libva-glx1 libva-egl1 vainfo
For details how to turn on hardware accelaration for ATI see:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/ATI

I hope that I helped someone :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 962773] Re: [VM800] Xorg freezes when a player plays a video

2012-06-30 Thread realmagnum
I've done a fresh install from a live cd of Ubuntu 12.04 Desktop i386
connected to the internet.

After, I opened terminal and I typed "sudo apt-get update" "sudo apt-get
dist-upgrade" without any changes to Software Sources. So, I restarted
Ubuntu and I installed mplayer-gui via Ubuntu Software Center.

After, I downloaded this file: http://blip.tv/file/get/Llelectronics-
LubuntuScreencastLXPanel2PanelConfiguration964.webm . So, I opened
mplayer-gui and I played the file. Mplayer has freezed with vdpau and xv
drivers. Video has played ok only with x11 driver.

I would like to remember that Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS works great. Is there
any way to use video drivers from 8.04.4 LTS in 12.04 LTS ? Is there any
other solution that I could try, even a difficult solution ?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 594408] Re: Xorg crash occasionally when I am working it will just logout back to the login screen

2012-06-30 Thread ricardisimo
This is happening to me as well, only on one of my machines, albeit the
one which has gone the longest without a fresh install... just regular
updates and upgrades as they came along. Not really sure yet if this is
hardware or software related.

The only constant so far seems to be network activity. That is, it
always seems to coincide with requesting some action either on a
webpage, with a newsreader, with Transmission, etc. Even if some such
action was not just requested, at a bare minimum there is an active
connection when it occurs.

I would greatly appreciate being able to collect data on this, but I
haven't a clue how to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in
advance.
