@madbiologist - I appreciate the efforts put into dealing with these binary drivers - they are huge pain to be sure. Unfortunately upgrading from Lucid to a later distro is not an option - I must use this specific version for work related development. I'm sure this isn't a valid solution - but may be of use to others - basically I upgraded the nvidia drivers to 302.17 by using this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat/+archive/x-updates/ # apt-add-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates # apt-get update # apt-get install nvidia-current I don't know what installing these do to the xorg server exactly, but it does help Lucid get a modern install of the nvidia drivers... Great point here :). I had to look at the code to determine the correct answer. I worried that, like you said, it would be buggy if you had two touchscreens. However, this should not be a problem. Input devices have a two-layer hierarchy. There are slave devices and master devices. Slave devices represent a physical device, like a touchscreen. Master devices represent a group of slave devices. Most people only have one master device configured, and all the slave devices are attached to it. If you have two mice, you can create a second master and attach one slave mouse to each. Then you'll have two independent pointers on screen :). A client can listen to events from master and/or slave devices. The events look and behave almost exactly the same. When you press your mouse button, a button press event is generated for the slave device and the attached master device. If you have two touchscreens with one master, then each slave device can emulate a button press event. However, there can be only one emulated touch per device (no matter whether it's a slave or a master), so the first touch is emulated for the master, and the second touch is not. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021450] [NEW] YouTube videos (Or Flash itself) doesn't go full screen with two monitors in use
Public bug reported: Hi, I have the latest Mac Mini, of which I have partitioned and use Ubuntu 12.04 with all the latest updates installed. I use both the HDMI and Mini Display Port in use. HDMI port for the primary and Mini Display Port for secondary. I've only just started using the secondary monitor, as I've been awaiting a cable to power it. When I open a YouTube video in full screen, only half the primary monitor is used in order to go fullscreen. The rest of the screen is just blank... I don't understand why. It's the same if I open the video and click full screen on the secondary monitor. The resolutions on both monitors are correct. I'm happy to answer any questions or to try (simply) to fix it. Public bug reported: My computer (Lenovo x120e w/ 12.04) shows either a blank screen for the login or the shell prompt (instead of the login gui). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise
With the updates in precise-proposed, does this mean that the suggested means of installing the nvidia-173 (or nvidia-96) packages will be via "Additional Drivers" in the near future? It sounds like manual driver installation from NVidia is already compatible with the precise xserver- xorg-core package, but I'm happy to wait a bit if there is a smoother option to be deployed soon. Is there a way we could test out the packages in precise-proposed (is that from the milestone-propsed PPA?) and provide feedback (if that would be helpful)? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-173 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/948053 Title: nvidia-96 and nvidia-173 uninstallable on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/948053/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)
@ Robert Lowery If I'm not mistaken, It seems "drivers/gpu/drm/i915/intel_tv.c" file gererates a kernel module called i915.ko. So, what if I find a way of editting intel_tv.c file only, generating a i915.ko file afterwards, and then loading this module instead of default one? It'll be less troublesome than recompiling whole kernel. Will it work? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/763688 Title: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/763688/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 763688] Re: [915GM] S-video output doesn't work in Natty (i386)
Same problem is happening on my Acer Aspire 2920 subnotebook. Ubuntu 12.04 Precise is able to detect TV output, as you can see on command below: user@leo-subnote:~$ xrandr Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 800, maximum 8192 x 8192 LVDS1 connected 1280x800+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 261mm x 163mm 1280x800 60.0*+ 1024x768 60.0 800x60060.3 56.2 640x48059.9 VGA1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 640x480_60.00 59.4 TV1 connected 640x480+1280+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm 848x48059.9 + 640x48059.9 + 1024x768 59.9 800x60059.9 640x480_60.00 59.4* Ignore last TV1 and VGA1 modes. I added manually for testing purposes, to no avail. I tested S-Video on Windows XP and it's working fine. Didn't tested on older Ubuntu versions, though. I'll try applying Robert Lowert's patch on my subnotebook somehow.

I have tearing using Vlc on Intel HD Chipset Intel® Celeron® Processor G530 (Sandy Bridge), xf86-video-intel git version but even with 2.19.0 version, linux kernel 3.4.4, xorg-server-1.12.2, mesa 8.0.3, libdrm-2.4.33. I can see it clearly when I'm watching basketball games in a 1080p TV > (using HDMI), specially during the fastbreak, when the camera pans quickly. > But > yea, it's much better than X11, Xv or anything like that. Is this expected? I > tested both with mplayer and VLC (glx output). > You might be seeing the effect as shown in my attachment (https://bugs.freedesktop.org/attachment.cgi?id=47585), which according to daniel vetter is "probably unfixable". I think this is because possibly that is actually an artifact of capturing the screenshot. However something else which happens for me is that in the vertical-bars video the bars don't move smoothly across the screen. I don't know how to really explain it, but it is as if my screen has a really slow switching time, so that the front of the bars (as they move) lights up, while the rear fades out. However this fading is not gradual, but seems to happen with a lot of 'blinking'. I'm not sure what is causing this yet, but I think it might be some artifact of the screen (seems to happen with some bars painted in the gimp, too), it looks quite weird. Anyway make sure it's none of that, take a picture with a (decent) camera. > I can't even test VAAPI. VLC supports it, but when I enable it, I get 100% CPU > usage and less than 1 FPS for some reason. There's the mplayer patches for > VAAPI support, but it seems in very bad shape. Is there a test program for > VAAPI? You can try the mplayer-vaapi branch at git://gitorious.org/vaapi/mplayer.git , which is maintained by Gwenole Beauchesne, who also works on intel's vaapi support. The mplayer version it is based on is quite old, and it is based on the original mplayer (not mplayer2), but it works fine nonetheless. > > For the record, I'm not running a composite manager. > > Thanks for looking into this Eugeni. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/755841 Title: [sandybridge] Graphics tearing when playing video To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/755841/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1021197] [NEW] ATI Radeon 9550 SE (RV350) 128MB DDR SDRAM AGP and Intel D815EEA2 Mainboard ACPI S3 State Resume Problem
Public bug reported: Hi, I will like to report that ATI Radeon 9550SE (RV350) has a problem with ACPI S3 State resume when installed in an Intel D815EEA2 mainboard. When I put the computer into Suspend and try to resume, the computer will wake up, but the screen will go totally white. However, it looks like Ubuntu is still running since the keyboard still responds. At this point, if I enter my password to cancel the screen lock, and press the power button, the computer will shut down in 60 seconds. Later when the computer is shutting down, it will display some text messages towards the end of the shut down process. The OS kernel hasn't crashed, but the display device driver does have some serious bugs. I also own an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (R350) graphics card, but I never saw this bug when tested with the same mainboard on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. System Configuration: - Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit * All updates issued as of 7/5/2012 have been applied. - Intel Pentium III 1 GHz - Intel D815EEA2 mainboard * BIOS Version P21-0039 (last BIOS release) * Power -> ACPI -> ACPI: S3 State * Power -> ACPI -> Video RePOST: Off - 512 MB PC133 SDRAM * 256MB module * 128MB module * 128MB module - ATI Radeon 9550SE * 1.5V AGP card * 128MB DDR SDRAM * ATI Technologies RV350 AS - Gateway EV700 17 inch VGA monitor - Maxtor 6L020J1 20GB PATA hard drive - Pioneer DVR-105 PATA DVD-RW drive - Hitachi CDR-7930 PATA CD-ROM drive - USB keyboard - USB mouse Feel free to repost this bug description to ATI section of the Ubuntu x.org bug tracker.
