[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029260] [NEW] spontanious system hangup
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I haven't completely figured out what triggers it, but quite often when I go to the following site using firefox in unity2D: http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/spoorkaart/spoorkaart which is flash driven map, mouse and keyboard get unresponsive. ctrl alt backspace etc do not work and I have to restart using the power button. no crash indication is given after restart. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)
I also got a hang. It's very rare on this laptop (every couple of months). It's 32 bits. Attached is the backtrace. As you can see, it's very similar to the 64 bits one. Compiz is not looping. It's just blocked there. The process doesn't use the cpu and I took a second backtrace a few second later, and it was exactly identical. ** Attachment added: backtrace 32 bits https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/966744/+attachment/3236677/+files/compiz1.bt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/966744/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Just a note, this backtrace is not taken after suspend, but just closing the lid, monitors go to powersave mode, and opening the lid. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025291] [NEW] Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap
You have been subscribed to a public bug: Version info: Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS Release:12.04 I use the compose key extensively; I find the compose system to be by far the fastest and most natural way of entering accented character. Entering accented Greek characters is currently broken using composition (using unicode character entry works fine, but that's laborious and requires you to have memorised all the codes). Specifically, Modern Greek only uses the tonos (and, rarely the dialytika) to accent characters. Accents such as the dasia, psili, varia, oxia, and the perispomeni are never used in Modern Greek; they are only used in Katharevousa and Ancient Greek. As such, the default character mapping for the ['] (right single quote) key should certainly be the TONOS bearing variants, and never the other variants. It would be OK for the other accents to be available via *other* keys, but not the right single quote, which a Greek-speaking user will always assume to yield the tonos. Note that even if the intention had *originally* been to allow the ['] key to be used to access some other type of accent, it's currently entirely inconsistent: for the alpha and epsilon it yields the varia, whereas for the iota it yields the psili, and so forth, which makes the current mapping entirely useless for Greek language entry. For example: [Compose + ' + a] appears to yield [U+1F70 GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AC GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH TONOS] [Compose + ' + e] appears to yield [U+1F72 GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AD GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON WITH TONOS] [Compose + ' + i] appears to yield [U+1F30 GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH PSILI], when it should be yielding [U+03AF GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH TONOS] ... and so forth. The Greek vowels are alpha, epsilon, eta, iota, omicron, upsilon and omega; they all need to be fixed to yield the tonos variety, for both lower and upper case. ** Affects: libx11 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: bot-comment -- Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025291 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in Ubuntu. ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025291] Re: Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap
I've done some more digging around, and it now looks more likely that the culprit is the mappings in the file: /usr/share/X11/locale/el_GR.UTF-8/Compose which belong to the package libx11-data. ** Package changed: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) = ubuntu ** Package changed: ubuntu = libx11 (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libx11 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1025291 Title: Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libx11/+bug/1025291/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

On 12.04 with a Radeon HD 6400M, the kernel boot option radeon.modeset=0 seems to solve the issue (almost). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1027724] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze
Rich, does this mean you can't use Unity for a desktop? I have had a similar problem, but I get a lockup using Firefox or Chrome browser, but I am not sure it is even that. I can make it lockup by just moving the scroll bar in any windows. Then again I try to lock it up and it won't lock. Sometimes it will lock a couple of times a day, then it goes for days without locking up. I have read the syslog and it really does not tell me anything. It is always different. It seems to be a kernel thing. even when it lock (and I can't get anything to respond to keyboard or mouse clicks, it will go to a prompt when I hit the Ctrl/Alt F2, from there I can run sudo shutdown now, and it will shut down. This gets me away from just hitting the power button and corrupting some files. It seems in the graphic mode I can't do anything but at the prompt I can. I installed a new SSD 180gig, reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 and it still lockup. But it ran about three days before it did. I am using a Dell Inspiron 1521 with the AMD 64bit. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash
@ddadap I have 12.04 32bit with a NVIDIA GPU Quadro NVS 290 dual monitor with one large X Screen. I've experienced this problem since I updated to 12.04, crashes often enough to seriously disturb my work. It might be network activity related, but the crash is in the nvidia driver (both 295.40 and 302.07). Actually it's 2 crash behavior for me; one is when screen totally freeze up but it's still possible connect; the other is when screen goes black and the login screen appears. I think sometimes the nvidia drivers hangs instead of crashes. Attached is gdb backtrace (only one method), maps and nvidia bug report. Reproducable by running running the following site (that measures your broadband): 1. Open http://www.bredbandskollen.se/ in firefox 2. Press STARTA MÄTNINGEN 3. If no crash then press Mät igen (to the right) and repeat step 2. 4. While doing this scroll up and down in another window. - Firefox will cause crash - Sublime Text 2 causes crash faster (http://www.sublimetext.com/2) It's not necessary to run any browser or any flash content. But crash usually happens for me during scroll. ** Attachment added: nvidia-bug.tar.bz2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+attachment/3237216/+files/nvidia-bug.tar.bz2 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Title: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/973096/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029582] [NEW] Unusable graphics with ATI RS690M
Public bug reported: Release: Quantal (20120726/alpha3) Architecture: i386 (but also seen on amd64) Using the alternate CD installation works ok, but rebooting into the install I am lucky if I get anything on the screen that resembles the lightdm screen (screenshot of that case will be attached). There were also cases of just white or just black. Login is impossible and occasionally everything goes downhill. Ssh login is possible or booting into textual mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 812594] Re: HP USB Graphics Adapter (Displaylink) shows green screen
For me it's resolved for 10.04 Lucid using solution #11 that I posted earlier from Canonical Paid Support. I have two Point of Sale machines in a live production environment that use the HP USB Display adapter daily with the code from #11 and it has been stable and worked flawlessly for the last 5 months. I have not tested this displaylink code for Preceis 12.04 yet as I am waiting for it to become more stable (huge problems with multiarch and broken packages in 12.04).
