2012-07-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I haven't completely figured out what triggers it, but quite often when I go to
the following site using firefox in unity2D:
http://www.ns.nl/cgi-bin/spoorkaart/spoorkaart which is flash driven map, mouse
and keyboard get unresponsive. ctrl alt backspace etc do not work and I have to
restart using the power button. no crash indication is given after restart.

Most flash works by the way and I'm not sure if it always firefox that
is causing the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-07-26 Thread Éric Piel
I also got a hang. It's very rare on this laptop (every couple of
months). It's 32 bits. Attached is the backtrace. As you can see, it's
very similar to the 64 bits one.

Compiz is not looping. It's just blocked there. The process doesn't use
the cpu and I took a second backtrace a few second later, and it was
exactly identical.

** Attachment added: backtrace 32 bits

Thanks Éric. That matches Chauncellor's results.

I wonder if the intel driver gets stuck and confused if you suspend
while it's in the middle of a system call...

2012-07-26 Thread Éric Piel
Just a note, this backtrace is not taken after suspend, but just closing
the lid, monitors go to powersave mode, and opening the lid.

Indeed, it could be due to having this dri call and a call to switch off
the monitors at the same time.

2012-07-26 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025291] [NEW] Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap

2012-07-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Version info:

Description:Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release:12.04

I use the compose key extensively; I find the compose system to be by far the
fastest and most natural way of entering accented character.

Entering accented Greek characters is currently broken using composition
(using unicode character entry works fine, but that's laborious and
requires you to have memorised all the codes).

Specifically, Modern Greek only uses the tonos (and, rarely the
dialytika) to accent characters. Accents such as the dasia, psili,
varia, oxia, and the perispomeni are never used in Modern Greek;
they are only used in Katharevousa and Ancient Greek.

As such, the default character mapping for the ['] (right single quote)
key should certainly be the TONOS bearing variants, and never the
other variants. It would be OK for the other accents to be available via
*other* keys, but not the right single quote, which a Greek-speaking
user will always assume to yield the tonos.

Note that even if the intention had *originally* been to allow the [']
key to be used to access some other type of accent, it's currently
entirely inconsistent: for the alpha and epsilon it yields the varia,
whereas for the iota it yields the psili, and so forth, which makes the
current mapping entirely useless for Greek language entry.

For example:

[Compose + ' + a] appears to yield [U+1F70 GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH
VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AC GREEK SMALL LETTER ALPHA WITH
TONOS]

[Compose + ' + e] appears to yield [U+1F72 GREEK SMALL LETTER EPSILON
WITH VARIA], when it should be yielding [U+03AD GREEK SMALL LETTER
EPSILON WITH TONOS]

[Compose + ' + i] appears to yield [U+1F30 GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH
PSILI], when it should be yielding [U+03AF GREEK SMALL LETTER IOTA WITH
TONOS]

... and so forth.

The Greek vowels are alpha, epsilon, eta, iota, omicron, upsilon and
omega; they all need to be fixed to yield the tonos variety, for both
lower and upper case.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025291] Re: Compose key yields incorrectly accented Greek characters when using Greek keymap

2012-07-26 Thread kgi
I've done some more digging around, and it now looks more likely that
the culprit is the mappings in the file:

/usr/share/X11/locale/el_GR.UTF-8/Compose

which belong to the package libx11-data.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 907381] Re: Display resolution keeps switching with external monitor connected

2012-07-26 Thread Michael Fötsch
On 12.04 with a Radeon HD 6400M, the kernel boot option
radeon.modeset=0 seems to solve the issue (almost).

Add this to /etc/default/grub:

  GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=radeon.modeset=0

Then run:

  sudo update-grub

This solves the continuous switching in the first few minutes after
login. However, it still happens once a week (?) that the settings
automatically go from extended desktop to mirrored at 1024x768 once or
twice per session long after login. There's still a bug in there
somewhere...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943723] Re: EeePC 900 ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad stops working after unknown delay

2012-07-26 Thread Adrien Lamothe
I'm having almost the same problem, with 12.04 Precise, for the ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad, on a different ASUS laptop. The touchpad works fine
except when I use the left touchpad button to grab and move a window the
window doesn't move at all. Sometimes, the window moves a tiny bit (a
few pixels.)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1027724] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze

2012-07-26 Thread irv
Rich, does this mean you can't use Unity for a desktop? I have had a similar
problem, but I get a lockup using Firefox or Chrome browser, but I am not sure
it is even that. I can make it lockup by just moving the scroll bar in any
windows. Then again I try to lock it up and it won't lock. Sometimes it will
lock a couple of times a day, then it goes for days without locking up. I have
read the syslog and it really does not tell me anything. It is always
different. It seems to be a kernel thing.
even when it lock (and I can't get anything to respond to keyboard or mouse
clicks, it will go to a prompt when I hit the Ctrl/Alt F2, from there I can run
sudo shutdown now, and it will shut down. This gets me away from just hitting
the power button and corrupting some files.
It seems in the graphic mode I can't do anything but at the prompt I can.
I installed a new SSD 180gig, reinstalled Ubuntu 12.04 and it still lockup. But
it ran about three days before it did.
I am using a Dell Inspiron 1521 with the AMD 64bit. Running Ubuntu 64bit
version. I do not have a nvidia graphics card.

Multiple keyboard layouts + precise pangoline - emacs unusable.

It seems like anyone wanting to use the alt key in a dvorak household

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-07-26 Thread Joel M
@ddadap
I have 12.04 32bit with a NVIDIA GPU Quadro NVS 290 dual monitor with one
large X Screen.

I've experienced this problem since I updated to 12.04, crashes often enough to
seriously disturb my work.
It might be network activity related, but the crash is in the nvidia driver
(both 295.40 and 302.07).

Actually it's 2 crash behavior for me; one is when screen totally freeze
up but it's still possible connect; the other is when screen goes black
and the login screen appears. I think sometimes the nvidia drivers hangs
instead of crashes.

Attached is gdb backtrace (only one method), maps and nvidia bug report.

Reproducable by running running the following site (that measures your
broadband):
 1. Open http://www.bredbandskollen.se/ in firefox
 2. Press STARTA MÄTNINGEN
 3. If no crash then press Mät igen (to the right) and repeat step 2.
 4. While doing this scroll up and down in another window.
 - Firefox will cause crash
 - Sublime Text 2 causes crash faster (http://www.sublimetext.com/2)

It's not necessary to run any browser or any flash content. But crash
usually happens for me during scroll.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1027724] Re: [nvidia] Xorg freeze

2012-07-26 Thread Rich Price
To: bugbot

What information was used to decide to change
affects:xorg (Ubuntu) → nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu) ?

To: irv

1. If I use Unity 2d I freeze as soon as I start Firefox [every time].
With Unity 3d my symptoms are more like yours.

2. You should open your own bug report for your PC. This is recommended in
last paragraph of section 3 here -

2012-07-26 Thread Zibodiz
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096

This is definitely not related to Unity 3D, because I switched to 2D
last night, and already this morning it logged me out without warning.
This time I was attempting to type a comment on Facebook beneath a photo
in Opera. I had not used flash at all since last boot. The first 2
characters of my comment appeared, then before the third had appeared on
the screen, I was logged out. I'm also post #97; I have Intel
Integrated Graphics on a C2D processor.

@joelm, thanks for providing that.

You provided three backtraces. You included a snippet from dmesg with

Also, when did you generate that nvidia-bug-report.log file?

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943723] Re: EeePC 900 ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad stops working after unknown delay

2012-07-26 Thread Matt Wheeler
That doesn't sound like the same problem at all. This bug is about the
trackpad freezing completely and not working again until the user's session
is ended (so possibly x restarting)
On Jul 26, 2012 3:06 PM, Adrien Lamothe 943...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote:

I'm having almost the same problem, with 12.04 Precise, for the ETPS/2
Elantech Touchpad, on a different ASUS laptop. The touchpad works fine
except when I use the left touchpad button to grab and move a window the
window doesn't move at all. Sometimes, the window moves a tiny bit (a
 few pixels.)

The synaptics driver on my machine is: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen

2012-07-26 Thread bfran...@gmail.com
I was getting these Xorg crashes after an upgrade yesterday. It also caused
some connectivity/network issues. The network issues seemed to revolve around
my vpnc being active (not sure if that was upgraded yesterday too), but after
reconfiguring the VPN, all is fine. No more Xorg crashes. Could have been a
coincidence.

bfrancom,

Any chance you have the time to try 3-4 successive lid close, wait for
full suspend, lid open, wait until all settled sequences? I can
consistently re-create the problem doing this and wonder if anyone can
confirm.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029582] [NEW] Unusable graphics with ATI RS690M

2012-07-26 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

Release: Quantal (20120726/alpha3)
Architecture: i386 (but also seen on amd64)

Using the alternate CD installation works ok, but rebooting into the
install I am lucky if I get anything on the screen that resembles the

also cases of just white or just black. Login is impossible and
occasionally everything goes downhill. Ssh login is possible or booting
into textual mode.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 812594] Re: HP USB Graphics Adapter (Displaylink) shows green screen

2012-07-26 Thread Damiön la Bagh
For me it's resolved for 10.04 Lucid using solution #11 that I posted earlier
from Canonical Paid Support.
I have two Point of Sale machines in a live production environment that use the
HP USB Display adapter daily with the code from #11 and it has been stable and
worked flawlessly for the last 5 months.

I have not tested this displaylink code for Preceis 12.04 yet as I am
waiting for it to become more stable (huge problems with multiarch and
broken packages in 12.04).

What is the qualifier for closing this bug?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-07-26 Thread Prashant L Rao
I have the same problem with both Unity 3D and Gnome Classic. My
solution is to log into Gnome Classic (no effects) where Metacity is the
window manager. That works fine. Any session with Compiz in it, be it
Unity 3D or Gnome Classic results in a total freeze including TTY1-6.
I'm running 12.04 on a Vostro 1014 with Intel graphics.
