[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1031621] [NEW] External Citizen monitor does not autoconfigure anymore
Public bug reported: My external Citizen monitor is not configured automatically anymore, when it did when Precise was beta and in prior stable releases. Gnome Display pane lists the monitor as unknown, and lists the following resolutions. 1024 x 768 800x600 The monitor works with the lower res setting for seconds at a time, like a strobe light. The higher resolution makes the screen go black with the odd white pixilated streak. Popping over to tty1 shows the following errors flooding the screen in non-stop intervals while creating synchronous lagging in responsiveness. unknown citizen ramdom dvi detect error probed a monitor but no|invalid EDID EDID checksum is invalid ,remainder is 146 Hardware First generation (2006) Intel MacBook Pro (Intel Core Duo, aka Yonah based processor) with an ATI Mbility Radeon X1600 video card. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen
Those of you who are seeing similar problems; could you try to get a core dump and a full stack trace? Here's how I managed to do it: 1. Prevent X from trapping SIGSEGV by putting the following in /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-no-trap-signals.conf: Section ServerFlags Option NoTrapSignals true EndSection 2. Tell X to dump core by adding the following to the [SeatDefaults] section of /etc/lightdm.conf: xserver-command=X -core 3. Make sure the X is allowed to dump core: - log out from your session - switch to another VT (ctrl-alt-f1) - sudo stop lightdm - ulimit -c unlimited - sudo lightdm 4. Check that the changes kicked in: $ ps -fp $(pidof X) UIDPID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD root 16043 6885 1 08:44 tty7 00:01:34 /usr/bin/X -core :7 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:7 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch $ cat /proc/$(pidof X)/limits | grep core Max core file sizeunlimitedunlimitedbytes $ 5. Switch back to VT7, log in and wait for X to crash again. 6. To get meaningful stacktraces, you'll want debug symbols installed for X and friends (adjust for different video drivers): sudo apt-get install libc6-dbg xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg 7. If/when X crashes, check for /etc/X11/core. If it exists, copy it to your home dir and run: gdb /usr/bin/Xorg core 8. In gdb, say bt full to get a stacktrace. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1026777 Title: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1026777/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1031784] [NEW] Artifacts on screen with ivy bridge
Public bug reported: I have a Intel 3570 CPU (Ivy Bridge) with built in 2500 graphics [1]. There is a lot of artifacts on screen, both in lightdm and in unity. There more or less impossibly to read any text on screen. I have tested quantal and the packages from ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa without any improvement. I had high hopes what xf86-video-intel 2.20.2 was the solution because it contains ivy bridge fixes, but still no result. [2] Note (link 2): For the last 9 months, since 2.16.901, we have been shipping a driver that does not work on IvyBridge GT1 systems (HD2500 graphics); we were telling the GPU to use an invalid number of threads for the pixel shader and this in turned caused the GPU to hang. With a plain install of precise I only see artifacts, but X hangs (hard) when I'm using quantal or the packages from ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa My current ugly workaround is to remove the intel driver and let X fall back to something else, not a perfect solution but the system is usable. [1] http://ark.intel.com/products/65702/Intel-Core-i5-3570-Processor-%286M-Cache-3_40-GHz%29 [2] http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/xorg/2012-July/054947.html Currently the system is running 12.04 with ppa ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa. I have xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.2+git20120731.fd3a1236-0ubuntu0sarvatt~precise installed, the system hangs hard after I log in, or sometimes the GPU hangs and the screen goes to power save. The system is not in use and I'm free to install and test whatever version and/or packages you want me to install. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1031784 Title: Artifacts on screen with ivy bridge To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1031784/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 Same issue, but I do NOT have a nvidia card. I have Intel embedded on a Lenove T410. I've been running 12.04 since it came out, but I've just started to have this problem a couple of weeks ago or less. This usually happens right after I wake my computer from sleep; just after the computer wakes, I log in, and then it suddenly will log out, closing all my open applications shortly there after. I should also note, the about 2 months ago, I started noticing that it takes a really long time from my computer to wake from sleep, like a minute and a half. Then I get some watch dog errors in the terminal just before the GUI comes back up. I also was able to also achieve to add 1920x1080 permanently in Mint by editing the x.org configuration. Apparently there is no such thing like a Xconf settings editor (or at least I haven't found anything) in Mint so Simon's way isn't working. But what did was following this tutorial http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/877 only with the command cvt 1920 1080 and than the modeline generated by it. I also had the problem that after sudo service mdm stop everything (also the command line) blacked out completely, another Ctrl+Alt+F1 brought the command line back for me. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 988290] Re: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise
Hi all, I have the same issue with a Nvidia card and IOGEAR MiniView 4 port KVM (usb/VGA) to a LG Flatron M2762D. It revert back to a 800x600 resolution. The only way to fix it for me was to go to the Displays, until I've turned off the screen saver. When I leave I just switch it to a Windows computer that functions properly. There is nothing in the dmesg output of value, and the Xorg logfile doesn't seem too helpful either, but it is attached. The NVIDIA driver is version 302.17. I've also tried to implement an xorg.conf config file from the nvidia- settings application that would force the monitor into a 1920x1080, but it didn't help. $ lspci | grep NVIDIA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G84 [GeForce 8600 GTS] (rev a1) Thanks gents, Dan ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+attachment/3245162/+files/Xorg.0.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/988290 Title: Resolution change with KVM switch on Precise To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/988290/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty()
At least for me, not related to how long you have had the computer in suspend. Just woke it up after having suspended for ~ 2 minutes, got the crash. I also had the same issue when I ran Cinnamon in Linux Mint 13 before.. so according to this and a previous comment it's not related to Unity, Gnome Classic or Cinnamon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956071 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/956071/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026777] Re: Xorg segfault: kicks out to login screen
Hmm Interesting... The same thing actually happened to me. First crash after going through the above didn't produce a core dump. A couple of days later though, crash + core dump. Don't know why it wouldn't work the first time but maybe trying again will get you a core, like it did for me. The dbg packages won't matter for getting a core dump - only for generating a meaningful stacktrace with gdb afterwards.
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1030346] Re: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad on ASUS X401A laptop in 12.04 Precise unable to move windows
Another observation: when setting the ETPS/2 with 'synclient Clickpad=1', you lose the setting when the computer shuts down. So you need to add the command to the .bashrc file of every user who has a desktop login. I think it is better not to place the command in /etc/bash.bashrc, because you don't need or want root/superuser to have the setting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1030346 Title: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad on ASUS X401A laptop in 12.04 Precise unable to move windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1030346/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
