[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.37
New stable version 304.43 just been released : http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/47534 Release Highlights: * Added support for the following GPUs: GeForce GTX 660 Ti Quadro K5000 Quadro K5000M Quadro K4000M Quadro K3000M NVS 510 * Fixed a bug that caused pre-release versions of X.Org xserver 1.13 to crash when certain GLX operations were performed, such as when starting Firefox. * Fixed a bug that caused VDPAU to hang when expanding the YouTube Flash Player. * Fixed a bug that caused gnome-settings-daemon to revert display configuration changes made by nvidia-settings. * Updated nvidia-settings to use RandR per-CRTC gamma control, when available. When controlling an X server with support for RandR 1.2, nvidia-settings will display the color correction widget as a tab within each display device page, instead of a per-X screen color correction page. * Fixed a bug that prevented the display palette from being updated immediately after an application called XStoreColors. * Added the ability to select and move X screens in the X Server Display Configuration page of nvidia-settings via Ctrl-(Left)Click + Drag. ** Summary changed: - Needs NVIDIA driver 304.37 + Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1037483 Title: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates/+bug/1037483/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@ Brian Colburn Please see also bug # 1033263 related to Nvidia Drivers. My suggestion is to try the Nouveau drivers instead (deactiviting the Nvidia restricted drivers completely). My test system seems to run stable with this choice. Nouveau drivers work well as long as you don't need 3D games. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43
It is indeed a bit ineffecient to withhold this driver for so long, because since two weeks now I can not use Unity with the proprietary drivers because of the incompatibility with X.ORG 1.13. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042779] [NEW] two-finger clicks only register as one finger, unless two-finger scrolling immediately before
Public bug reported: Two-finger clicks only register as one finger, unless two-finger scrolling immediately before. This is very odd because it's only multi-finger clicking on the clickpad that's affected. Using two fingers to scroll is always flawless. However using the same two fingers to do a click (right click) only works at the end of a two-finger scroll. If your fingers have been stationary since touching then two-finger clicks only register as one finger (left click). NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia Wayland does not work with proprietary drivers and is not expected to any time soon. Supported hardware and drivers are covered at the top of: http://wayland.freedesktop.org/building.html For nvidia, you should be able to get this to work with the nouveau drivers (disabling the proprietary drivers in jockey (additional drivers) will do this). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I still firmly believe that the reason this bug has not been fixed is because the developers assume the different symptoms represent different bugs. It's entirely possible that the same bug could affect different chipsets/hardware combinations differently. To not at least consider this possibility is not only delusional, but weak troubleshooting. This comment string is so long I've lost whether or not anyone has tried the latest in the 3.4.x kernel series. That is the latest kernel to be declared the next LTS release by the kernel team. I have mostly switched to Arch Linux (which uses a much newer kernel) and I've not had a single issue on any of my machines, on several different chipsets. Considering the LTS status of kernel 3.4, I highly recommend it to be considered for emergency adoption into 12.04 (after it is tested of course). Considering I haven't had this issue in Arch Linux, that only leaves two possibilities. One, an Ubuntu-specific code commit is causing the issue, or two, it's upstream with the kernel and a newer one should be considered. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
