[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.37

2012-08-28 Thread Boaz Dodin
New stable version 304.43 just been released :
http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/47534

Release Highlights:
* Added support for the following GPUs:
   GeForce GTX 660 Ti
   Quadro K5000
   Quadro K5000M
   Quadro K4000M
   Quadro K3000M
   NVS 510
* Fixed a bug that caused pre-release versions of X.Org xserver 1.13 to crash
when certain GLX operations were performed, such as when starting Firefox.
* Fixed a bug that caused VDPAU to hang when expanding the YouTube Flash Player.
* Fixed a bug that caused gnome-settings-daemon to revert display configuration
changes made by nvidia-settings.
* Updated nvidia-settings to use RandR per-CRTC gamma control, when available.
When controlling an X server with support for RandR 1.2, nvidia-settings will
display the color correction widget as a tab within each display device page,
instead of a per-X screen color correction page.
* Fixed a bug that prevented the display palette from being updated immediately
after an application called XStoreColors.
* Added the ability to select and move X screens in the X Server Display
Configuration page of nvidia-settings via Ctrl-(Left)Click + Drag.

Sebastien, do you mean synaptics (the touchpad driver)? If so, would it
be useful trying to reproduce the bug having previously disabled the
touchpad (by disconnecting it physically, or unloading a module, or I
don't know whatelse...)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]

2012-08-28 Thread Erick Brunzell
Just out of curiosity I tried installing Lubuntu QQ alpha 3 on the
aforementioned hardware. All went fine other than one totally unrelated
ubiquity bug.

After installing I applied the available updates, I did NOT enable
proposed, but then it's no longer able to boot into that old (circa
2007) VIA hardware. I get the errors shown in these really horrible
pics.

I really wish i could grab better pics of the screen but I'm old, frail,
and shaky :^(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-28 Thread Hein
@ Brian Colburn

Please see also bug # 1033263 related to Nvidia Drivers.

My suggestion is to try the Nouveau drivers instead (deactiviting the
Nvidia restricted drivers completely). My test system seems to run
stable with this choice. Nouveau drivers work well as long as you don't
need 3D games.

Other suggestion: try newer Nvidia drivers from PPA (technical: don't
know if you're up to the challenge).

For all using an Nvidia card / driver. Try Nouveau drivers. This could
solve your stability issue. See bug # 1033263

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43

2012-08-28 Thread Ingo Gerth
It is indeed a bit ineffecient to withhold this driver for so long,
because since two weeks now I can not use Unity with the proprietary
drivers because of the incompatibility with X.ORG 1.13. This in turn
means that it is impossible for all testers using NVIDIA hardware to
test all the multi-monitor fixes recently released, because we simply
can not use a multi-monitor set-up with Nouveau.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]

2012-08-28 Thread Lars Noodén
Just to note, the graphical install from the Desktop image displays just
fine -- during the installation itself. Afterwards, there is the same
problem with X not working.

Mitten: interesting, you have different notebook (I have a lenovo
thinkpad) but it seems the xorg backtracke is quite similar also the
message in dmesg which is exactly having the same +1f3000 as in mine.

Probably it's a general bug affected the users of the same GPU, or so
then?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042779] [NEW] two-finger clicks only register as one finger, unless two-finger scrolling immediately before

2012-08-28 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Public bug reported:

Two-finger clicks only register as one finger, unless two-finger
scrolling immediately before.

This is very odd because it's only multi-finger clicking on the clickpad
that's affected. Using two fingers to scroll is always flawless. However
using the same two fingers to do a click (right click) only works at the
end of a two-finger scroll. If your fingers have been stationary since
touching then two-finger clicks only register as one finger (left
click).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1037483] Re: Needs NVIDIA driver 304.43

2012-08-28 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-settings - 304.43-0ubuntu1

---
nvidia-settings (304.43-0ubuntu1) quantal; urgency=low

  * New upstream release (LP: #1037483):
- Updated nvidia-settings to use RandR per-CRTC gamma
control, when available. When controlling an X
server with support for RandR 1.2, nvidia-settings
will display the color correction widget as a tab
within each display device page, instead of a
  per-X screen color correction page.
- Added the ability to select and move X screens in
the X Server Display Configuration page of
  nvidia-settings via Ctrl-(Left)Click + Drag.
- Fixed a bug that prevented the display palette
from being updated immediately after an application
  called XStoreColors.
- Fixed a bug that caused gnome-settings-daemon to
revert display configuration changes made by
  nvidia-settings.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969154] Re: Unable to set 1920x1080 resolution in Ubuntu 12.04 Beta2 as a VMWare Workstation 8 guest

2012-08-28 Thread Jesse Jarrell
I was having the same problem with resolution being limited to
1600x1200. Turns out that in the VM settings I had Specify monitor
settings with one monitor specified and Maximum Resolution of any one
monitor set to 1600x1200, which is the largest resolution listed. Once
I set it to Use host setting for monitors (can only be changed with VM
powered off) and restarted with the VM maximized it set itself to
1920x1080. I don't think this is an issue with xorg but with VMWare
Workstation 8.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042807] [NEW] Screen Flickering in Unity

2012-08-28 Thread snimmins
Public bug reported:

lsb_release -rd: Description: Ubuntu quantal (development branch) Release: 12.10
apt-cache policy pkgname: N: Unable to locate package pkgname

After latest update, screen flickers constantly in Unity.
Desktop background, browsers, windows, folders and files go blank and
disappear, then return on mouse move or click.

In gnome (classic) the screen only flickers with Unity plugin - On.
Tried disabling all animations in Compiz effects to no avail.
Reset Unity and Compiz to no avail...

It's giving me a headache so forced to use gnome until bug is rectified.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041814] Re: weston crashed with SIGSEGV in ____longjmp_chk()

2012-08-28 Thread Darxus
NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia

Wayland does not work with proprietary drivers and is not expected to
any time soon. Supported hardware and drivers are covered at the top
of: http://wayland.freedesktop.org/building.html

For nvidia, you should be able to get this to work with the nouveau
drivers (disabling the proprietary drivers in jockey (additional
drivers) will do this). Or radeon for AMD/ATI hardware instead of
fglrx/catalyst. Intel also works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029221] Re: /usr/bin/weston does not have suid

2012-08-28 Thread Darxus
That was done intentionally:

Build without setuid for weston; it's very young and experimental, so let's be
cautious. - changelog for 0.85 -
http://changelogs.ubuntu.com/changelogs/pool/universe/w/weston/weston_0.95.0-0ubuntu1/changelog

In 0.95, weston should never be suid root, but weston-launch is intended
to be suid root. This should have fewer security implications than
running weston suid root, however it's still up to the packagers.

current mesa version is the latest one available on Precise, same goes
with unity. Should we reopen this bug or file a new one?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-08-28 Thread Jeremy LaCroix
I still firmly believe that the reason this bug has not been fixed is
because the developers assume the different symptoms represent different
bugs. It's entirely possible that the same bug could affect different
chipsets/hardware combinations differently. To not at least consider
this possibility is not only delusional, but weak troubleshooting.

This comment string is so long I've lost whether or not anyone has tried
the latest in the 3.4.x kernel series. That is the latest kernel to be
declared the next LTS release by the kernel team. I have mostly switched
to Arch Linux (which uses a much newer kernel) and I've not had a single
issue on any of my machines, on several different chipsets. Considering
the LTS status of kernel 3.4, I highly recommend it to be considered for
emergency adoption into 12.04 (after it is tested of course).
Considering I haven't had this issue in Arch Linux, that only leaves two
possibilities. One, an Ubuntu-specific code commit is causing the issue,
or two, it's upstream with the kernel and a newer one should be
considered.

2012-08-28 Thread Bryce Harrington
Reopening.

From comment 8, Unity is just getting stuck waiting for the GPU to come
back, but the GPU has locked.

Ursula, would be helpful to get /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state
from you as well when your system locks up. If you also have IPEHR:
0x7a02 in your renderer command stream then it may be the same bug
as Giovanni.

Giovanni, I've put mesa 8.0.3 into precise-proposed. I would suggest
your next step (if you're still reproducing this bug) is to update your
mesa to t he one in proposed and see if that resolves the lockup issue.

** Summary changed:

- Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - intel_do_flush_locked failed:
Input/output error
+ Unity freeze, crashes when trying to restart - GPU lockup with IPEHR:

i'm getting suspicious about this issue... i've upgraded memory on my laptop
and i feel that it works better now... i wonder how much memory do you guys
have... i think that issue always come to the surface when the system starts to
swap memory to the hard disk.
I'm gonna investigate this more in the future.

Before i've had 2gb of ram. Now i have 6gb so the system really never
swaps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029221] Re: /usr/bin/weston does not have suid

2012-08-28 Thread Fred
This bug is no longer valid.
This was reported when weston 0.85 was in the repository.
Since then, weston in the repository have been updated to version 0.95 which
introduced weston-launch.
The update obsoletes this bug report.

So /usr/bin/weston no longer should be suid root. It should not.
