[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 973096 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/973096 I have the same problem on a Fujitsu P3110 netbook with 12.04,Classic- Gnome (no effects), 256G SSD, no nvidia card. After a fresh install with 12.04.1, I got the problem a day or so later. It has been running with no Xorg crash so far after the following change: (1) Created a xorg.conf with sudo X :1 -configure which creates a xorg.conf.new in the ~ directory. Then, sudo cp ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf to copy it to the /etc/X11/ directory (2) Inspecting the xorg.conf I saw that it had created Screen0, Screen1 Screen2 Sections. I removed the Screen1 Screen2 sections. My xorg.conf now looks as shown below: Section ServerLayout Identifier X.org Configured Screen 0 Screen0 0 0 InputDeviceMouse0 CorePointer InputDeviceKeyboard0 CoreKeyboard EndSection Section Files ModulePath /usr/lib/xorg/modules FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/misc FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/cyrillic FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi/:unscaled FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi/:unscaled FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/Type1 FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/100dpi FontPath /usr/share/fonts/X11/75dpi FontPath /var/lib/defoma/x-ttcidfont-conf.d/dirs/TrueType FontPath built-ins EndSection Section Module Load glx Load dri2 Load dri Load dbe Load extmod Load record EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Keyboard0 Driver kbd EndSection Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse0 Driver mouse Option Protocol auto Option Device /dev/input/mice Option ZAxisMapping 4 5 6 7 EndSection Section Monitor Identifier Monitor0 VendorName Monitor Vendor ModelNameMonitor Model EndSection Section Device ### Available Driver options are:- ### Values: i: integer, f: float, bool: True/False, ### string: String, freq: f Hz/kHz/MHz, ### percent: f% ### [arg]: arg optional #Option DRI # [bool] #Option ColorKey # i #Option VideoKey # i #Option FallbackDebug # [bool] #Option Tiling# [bool] #Option LinearFramebuffer # [bool] #Option Shadow# [bool] #Option SwapbuffersWait # [bool] #Option TripleBuffer # [bool] #Option XvMC # [bool] #Option XvPreferOverlay # [bool] #Option DebugFlushBatches # [bool] #Option DebugFlushCaches # [bool] #Option DebugWait # [bool] #Option HotPlug # [bool] #Option RelaxedFencing# [bool] Identifier Card0 Driver intel BusID PCI:0:2:0 EndSection Section Screen Identifier Screen0 Device Card0 MonitorMonitor0 SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 1 EndSubSection SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 4 EndSubSection SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 8 EndSubSection SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 15 EndSubSection SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection SubSection Display Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection I will report back in case I observe a crash. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/980519 Title: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/980519/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I am really at the end of my patience here, my system is a E350 Sony laptop (AMD/HD6300), it has happily been freezing continuously for the past months almost daily, i tried everything, countless kernel variations, reinstalls, fucked around with Flash, with the thermal.off flag, manually installed catalyst drivers...this POS keeps freezing...i have wasted hours of my time on this, which leaves me with a really sour taste. Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.04 precise with ppa:unity-team/sru Issue: System fails to resume and gets stuck with a screen of random blocks.(Checked the version of Nvidia under system settings - Additional drivers and Nvidia version 173 was active). Action: #. Ensure unity is running on a machine with a nvidia GPU using the proprietary nvidia driver #. Put the machine to sleep #. Resume the machine from sleep Additional info - Manual restart solved the above issue. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046326] [NEW] Ubuntu Slow, crash, sluggish from version 10.04 upwards on i3/i5/i7 machines
Public bug reported: This is an attempt to get proper attention to the massive amounts of people stuggling with ubuntu freezing at random, or becoming very slow or sluggish. ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg- video-intel/+bug/993187 ) Developers won't work on it because the problem is not given enough detail. This is however a severe issue. Here's my info gathered so far: Ubuntu will at random points suddenly become very slow and sluggish. graphics run far behind, keyboard strokes take multiple seconds to show, graphics are updated in super slowmo mode, or if you're unlucky; the system dies completely. This is related to a problem with the interrupt handling. On my own machine (MSI i7, nvidia card, 16 Gb, 5 sata HDD's) I have had this problem from 10.04 (when I bough the hware) up to 12.04. I have since upgraded up to kernel 3.5.3 with varying results. Some suggestions in posts make the periods between crashes shorter, some days it works fine, some days it happens every five minutes, but it NEVER goes away. If you consider this is interrupt related, that makes perfect sense. Every single 'crash' is marked by an unanswered interrupt. See below syslog: Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631364] irq 16: nobody cared (try booting with the irqpoll option) Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631368] Pid: 17901, comm: firefox Tainted: P O 3.5.3-030503-generic #201208252335 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631369] Call Trace: Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631370] IRQ [810e5a5d] __report_bad_irq+0x3d/0xe0 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631378] [810e5ce5] note_interrupt+0x135/0x190 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631380] [810e3559] handle_irq_event_percpu+0xa9/0x210 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631382] [810e370e] handle_irq_event+0x4e/0x80 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631384] [810e6874] handle_fasteoi_irq+0x64/0x120 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631388] [81016632] handle_irq+0x22/0x40 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631391] [816a49ea] do_IRQ+0x5a/0xe0 Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631394] [8169a86a] common_interrupt+0x6a/0x6a Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631395] EOI [816a2c2d] ? system_call_fastpath+0x1a/0x1f Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631398] handlers: Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631401] [814bc670] usb_hcd_irq Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631462] [a0d65cb0] nv_kern_isr [nvidia] Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631470] [a00640f0] rhine_interrupt [via_rhine] Sep 5 15:13:14 Server kernel: [112195.631471] Disabling IRQ #16 The problem is massively compounded by the fact that irqpoll and irqfixup options NO LONGER WORK AT ALL ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/855199https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/855199 ). No matter if you switch to Nouveau, diff kernel, or other drivers, the problem remains is varying severity. Again; logical if there is a problem with the kernel interrupt handling itself. So here's the kicker. It is easy to resolve! By forcing a restart of the interrupt handlers the system INSTANTLY comes back to 100% functional life: root@Server:~# service network-manager restart My theory (for what it's worth; I have programmed assembly for 40 years) is that there is a multi-threading fault somewhere, which causes the kernel to miss an interrupt, or to miss allocating it. There is truly no point in uploading hardware specs and/or software config to this bug. There are litteraly thousands of different configs experiencing the same issue. The one thing they have in common though: Shared interrupts (usually 16) and LOAD on that interrupt (USB (KB+MS), VGA, ETH) on high speed machines. I strongly urge the kernel people to accept responsibility for this one. The problem is getting very much out of hand because it seems to get worse as CPU power increases. And more and more people are increasing to I7 etc Hence the massive flood of problems. I have created a keyboard shortcut that does the service restart and this works perfectly 100% of the time. If any dev needs more info, contact me. I hope this gets some very VERY high level attentions VERY soon. This is extremely damaging to Linux in general. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1046450] [NEW] Xorg freeze with NVidia GT 610 graphics card under Xen
Public bug reported: I have an NVidia GT 610 graphics card with the nvidia-current 295.40-0ubuntu1.1 driver installed.Video is flawless when booting directly into the standard kernel. However, when attempting run Ubuntu 12.04 as dom0 in Xen using the 295.40 driver, my screen invariably goes blank just after seeing the initial Ubuntu splash screen. and always before the LightDM login screen is displayed. I'll just add that I have experienced nearly the same issue using the 304.43 driver obtained from ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates. However, when attempting run Ubuntu 12.04 as dom0 in Xen using the 304.43 driver, I can get to the LightDM login screen, but then my screen invariably goes blank when I attempt to start Unity from LightDM. I'll further add that the Nvidia card was installed to replace an older graphics card (which I no longer have and don't recall the make, but am pretty sure it didn't have an Nvidia chipset) whose cooling fan had died. I never had any problems running Ubuntu as dom0 in Xen with that older card. I'm pretty diligent about doing once or twice daily upgrades on this machine, so it couldn't have been much past when the failure started to occur. From the bug report, it looks like the failure started happening at about 3.5.0-11.11-generic. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625]
Hi Xavier, It looks like ubuntu 12.10 doesn't have the updated version yet. Should I build the new version from source code or I can wait for ubuntu maintainers to build it? It depends on how fast you want to confirm this is actually fixed or not. I'm not surprised Ubuntu doesn't have an updated package yet, I've uploaded the new release less than 24 hours ago ;-) If you want to build from source, you might want to look at this : http://www.openchrome.org/trac/wiki/Installation#Installfromareleasetarball -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-openchrome in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1041625 Title: X not starting after install [openchrome] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/openchrome/+bug/1041625/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041625] Re: X not starting after install [openchrome]
I'm a newbie here, and most of this is going way over my head. However I've been having trouble with Lubuntu 12.10 (PPC desktop) for the past few days, right up to today's build (Sept 5). 1) wireless network applet on the lower task bar appears to be dead. When I click on it, nothing happens. 2) If I click on the Install Lubuntu CD icon, top left hand corner, the header of a window appears. It's entitled Install:, but all I see is the header and the outline of where the dialogue box is supposed to be. 3) If I open PCManFM, the colour scheme is completely seems distorted in places particularly at the top left just under the tool bar, where the forward/back buttons are. Horizontally striped colours that make the buttons almost unreadable. 4) If I try to Quit the Installation, there is another blank dialogue box with only a red circled exclamation point at the left top and the words Quit the installation? in the centre, and the usual - + X buttons at the right. All of this with today's build running an an eMac G4 PPC running at 1.2 Ghz - 4 Gig Ram - 80 Gig hard drive. Should I be filing bug reports, or are these issues already known?
