[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1054982] Re: after the update, X or just nvidia don't read the display correctly

2012-09-24 Thread Edward Donovan
This is filed against unity-lens-photos; that package wouldn't have
anything to do with this. Your video hardware and driver information
will be needed. The best way to get that is to run

  ubuntu-bug xorg

from a terminal. I'm going to close this bug, because that will open a
new one for you. Thanks.

2012-09-24 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

After the upgrade to Quantal, the monitor (DELL U2410 with 1920x1200
native) is only in VGA resolution.

Setting the NVIDIA X Server settings (graphics card is a Quadro 2000) to
X screen 0 and choosing the resolution manually helps until the next
restart.

The DELL U2410 selection doesn't offer anything above VGA (the
connection is via DisplayPort).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055415] Re: Cannot login, black screen

2012-09-24 Thread Edward Donovan
I'd say xorg is a better bet than nautilus. There's no info here about
your video hardware -- the simplest way to get it would be to start over
with:

  ubuntu-bug xorg

So I'm going to mark this one Invalid to close it, because it'll be
smoother for you than directing that info to this existing report.
Thanks.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Sorry I don't know if it is lightdm or nautilus or something else that
handles this.

Leave computer for a while until screen blanks
Come back

Would expect login screen to be presented

Screen is black and no login box appears although cursor does change to text
entry when over where the box would be.
Clicking where box would be and entering password blind just gives a black
screen and default cursor everywhere.

Don't think this is reliably reproduceable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 982010] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0x78080003

2012-09-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
Rob, upstream says they can't reproduce the bug. Are you still seeing
this bug in Precise? Have you tried quantal?

If you have more to add, comment on the upstream bug report, otherwise
this bug report will get closed as unreproducible.

I am thinking this bug might be fixed by the fix for bug 927168, which
was released to quantal a few days ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980964] Re: [i965gm] GPU lockup render.IPEHR: 0xa80003bd

2012-09-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
> If there's anything I can do to help fix this bug, please let me know.

Hi Tumaini, yes could you help by doing the following three things?

1. Are you still experiencing this GPU lockup? If so, roughly how
often does it occur?

2. If you're still experiencing it, have you noticed a specific
application and/or set of steps to reproduce the lockup?

3. If you're able to reproduce the bug, try installing mesa 8.0.4 from
precise-proposed and see if that makes the bug go away.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 937822] Re: [precise] F10 always opens the menu, cannot be overriden (after xkeyboard-config update)

2012-09-24 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ F10 behaves the same as Shift-F10. This causes menus to pop up incorrectly.
+
+ [Fix]
+ Upstream patch preserves Shift so that Shift-F10 and F10 act as separate keys.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Open a gnome-terminal window
+ 2. Run aptitude
+ 3. Press F10
+
+ Expected behavior: Aptitude's menu opens
+ Broken behavior: Menus for both aptitude and gnome-terminal are shown.
+
+ In different window environments (e.g. unity) other menus can be
+ triggered than should be.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ The patch simply changes a keyboard layout config file, so the severity of
any possible regression would be limited to keyboard configuration
misbehaviors. This is a well reviewed, tested patch from upstream and not
expected to have any regression.
+
+ [Original Report]
  Upstream bug report: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=661973

Visible in Unity - change keybinding for opening first global menu entry
  to Alt+F10.

Pressing F10 triggers short flash of global menu nevertheless. When you
disable the F10 shortcut in gnome-terminal, pressing the key triggers
  context menu in gnome terminal.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-09-24 Thread Jonathan Mullins
The fix released on 11th Sep 2012 stopped the random logoffs occurring
for me - however since updating my machine yesterday (24th Sep 2012) the
problem is back again - I see weird pixelated artefacts on my desktop
after logging in, and then get logged off shortly after launching Google
Chrome. After logging back in the problem is gone. Let me know if you
want some log files etc.

Apparently bug #1055698 can reproduce _XAllocID asserts reliably.
Onboard in unity-greeter is not exactly a minimal test case, but perhaps
this is still of some help.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055700] [NEW] Quantal doesn't always resume from suspend

2012-09-24 Thread pep
Public bug reported:

Screen remains black after resume.
Hiting the enter shows the mouse in processing state, indicating that the login
menu from lock screen is present (if one writes the pass it appears to login -
all this with the black screen).

Only way of recovering is from a tty kill Xorg.
Kill compiz eventually shows the windows opened before suspend but the desktop
is frozen.
compiz --replace also doesn't work.

It happens quite often.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1055674] [NEW] nvidia-settings crash when clicking on certain entries

2012-09-24 Thread Rainer Rohde
Public bug reported:

I've reported this already here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers/+bug/1055634 , however the Apport Retracing Service said I need
to file a new bug.

This just happens after today's dist-upgrade -- the Nvidia Settings app
crashes when clicking on topics inside the GUI window.

This is a regression, as it worked just fine earlier today.

Specifically, it crashes the nvidia-settings app whenever I am clicking
on "nvidia-settings Configuration" and "OpenGL/GLX Information".

All other entries behave normally and don't cause a crash.

Also, whenever I click on nvidia-settings > "OpenGL/GLX Information",
the window manager crashes as well (i.e., windows have no window border
anymore).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047146] Re: xorg fails to configure native 1440 x 900 on LCD widescreen

2012-09-24 Thread Chascon
I gather this is related to the low tolerance of faulty EDID I reported
in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1047156 Here's
what I reported therein.

Solution:
I've had to force the resolution with the following.
xrandr --newmode "1440x900_60.00" 106.47 1440 1520 1672 1904 900 901 904 932
+HSync +VSync
xrandr --addmode DVI-0 1440x900_60.00
xrandr --output DVI-0 --mode 1440x900_60.00

In place of the first line, the following also has worked for me --something I
just got off the net, if I recall.
xrandr --newmode "1440x900_60.00" 106.50 1440 1528 1672 1904 900 903 909 934
-hsync +vsync

Now, I've had to automate it by placing that into ~/.xprofile

Results:
- X starts with the native mode 1440x 900 at 60 Hz, or just shy of 60, 59 if I
recall. It blanks out black once or twice though.
- lightdm sometimes entirely fits onto the physical screen, sometimes it
doesn't.
- It takes "forever" to reach lightdm.

Expected results:
I guess it goes without saying that the expected results should be that the
system should auto-configure itself so as to not require user intervention.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047156] Re: EDID does not allow LCD widescreen configuration

2012-09-24 Thread Chascon
After the system configured itself, it still boots into 1224 x 768
(4:3), which makes real estate go off-screen at the right and bottom,
affecting both lightdm and the desktop environment. See my bug report at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/lightdm/+bug/1047140

Might this be the EDID issue, causing a
delay while Ubuntu decides how to treat my LCD screen? I've run various
diagnostics and my HD is fine, only one fan is out, which is noted by the Apple
diagnostic. This MacBook Pro used to boot fine with prior versions of Ubuntu
which didn't have this TFT issue.

Expected results:
I guess it goes without saying that the expected results should be that the
system should auto-configure itself so as to not require user intervention. And
it should not go into an episodic and alternating blanking loop.

Comments:
I've had the same issue with another (LCD?) monitor on another Ubuntu 120.10
beta install, and I've had to resort to the same fix. Info to come. So I
suspect that this is a LCD problem or one of just having low tolerance for
defective EDID.

This seems to be due to overlay-scrollbar. If you run it like:
LIBOVERLAY_SCROLLBAR=0 picard
it works fine.

high I/O-Load
+ Picard freezes X when overlay scrollbars are enabled

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-24 Thread David Ellis
NVIDIA's 96.43.23 (32 bit) works for me on an ASUS 8170 GeForce4 MX 440.

My only issue was "The distribution-provided pre-install script failed!"
but I accepted the default option "Yes" to continue installing anyway.
Because I have a display with a rather odd display resolution I had to
edit xorg.conf to get it included. I still have the old (dead)
"96.43.20", the "173" and "current" in the package list from x-swat but
presumably they will updated in time and I shall clean up everything
then.

2012-09-24 Thread Julius Thor
Tried DisplayPort again today and this problem still persists. I did
make another test, however:

I can get DisplayPort working if I boot the computer docked and
DisplayPort plugged into the dock. If i then undock the computer and
redock, DisplayPort will not activate again and xrandr shows no
indication of a Monitor being connected to any of the DisplayPorts.

image remains visible on the screen, but is static - the cursor can
still be moved around the screen, and ctrl+alt+F1 still brings you to a
virtual terminal. When running top from tty1, it can be noted that the
compiz process is still running, also no crashes appear in /var/crash/*.
The only way to resolve this seems to be a reboot. The issue started
occurring about 2-3 weeks ago. From memory I have encountered this
lockup maybe once or twice whilst only using the internal monitor of the
netbook. When an external monitor is connected however, within a few
minutes the display will freeze. The machine in question is a dell mini
9 using the i915 driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1054198] Re: Thinkpad T510 doesn't come out of screensaver

2012-09-24 Thread Marc Deslauriers
I just installed 3.6rc7, and rebooted.
Once reboot, I closed my laptop lid (configured to not suspend, just blank)
Upon opening the laptop lid, screen had background and mouse pointer, but
screensaver dialog didn't come up
Switched to vt1, killed gnome-screensaver, vt7 still had background and mouse
pointer and a half-inch black square in the center of the screen
I ran dstack, and attached is the compiz stack trace.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-09-24 Thread Elias Jahn
I was affected by this bug on Samsung E500 laptop, happened a lot, especially
when on battery use, solved it after a long googling which returned me two
possible solutions:
-ugrading kernel to 3.4
-adding this to kernel boot options: i915.i915_enable_rc6=0

The last solution was the fix, didn't have a single crash of those since then
(more than 2 months ago).
As it happened mostly on battery usage, it really does make sense that it is
related to the unstability of intel driver for sandy bridge which you can find
easily googling for enable rc6 and sandy bridge.

The only thing is, that battery life gets a little less... :S but at
least this makes your system plain usable again :)

2012-09-24 Thread irv

Yes, I tried again on 9/23/2012 with the daily built. No change since the
9/1/2012. Graphics are still corrupt even on the live OS. We are getting closer
to the final release I hop this problem will be fixed or this will be the first
release I won't be able to use. I will have to stay with 12.04.
I was wondering if any one knows what was changed in 12.10 to bring on this
problem?
