[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057093] Re: Installing nvidia-current should blacklist gfxpayload

2012-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
This change has been applied in quantal and as a direct result has made
boot splash unusable for all users when the nvidia drivers are installed
(bug #1063969). This is not something that should have been changed
during freeze due to a vague concern that the driver "does not interact
well".

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063969] Re: No Plymouth Splash on Latitude E6420

2012-10-08 Thread Steve Langasek
The plymouth splash doesn't display because according to the information
attached to your bug report, it has no framebuffer to display it on.
This is a direct result of a recent change to the nvidia-graphics-
drivers package. Reassigning.

** Package changed: plymouth (Ubuntu) => nvidia-graphics-drivers
(Ubuntu)

** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Critical

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot

2012-10-08 Thread oldmankit
I've just read through all the comments and can't see that there's a
fix. If it's there but I missed it, please point it out.

I've been using Precise since it was released and have been hoping that
this bug would be fixed through an update. No luck. I now am actively
looking, but it seems like there is not fix. This obviously affects a
lot of people. What can we do to speed a fix?

2012-10-08 Thread HousieMousie2
Downloaded and installed NVIDIA-Linux-x86-304.51.run last night (using
sh).

Thank you, Doug McMahon (mc3man)! (Post #37) This worked for me!

To be a bit more verbose - for those looking for a tmp workaround till fixed -
if no current /etc/X11/xorg.conf then create one with this in it

Section "Device"
  Identifier "NVIDIA GeForce"
  Driver "nvidia"
  Option "ConstrainCursor" "no"
EndSection

If there already is an xorg.conf with a device section then just add a line
line in the section
 Option "ConstrainCursor" "no"

This thread is so long. Solution is to not use 12.04, rollback to 11.10
and save yourself a bunch of time. I'll give 12.10 a spin, but will be
keeping 11.10 on hand if tat still as these problems.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058211] Re: weston does not fallback gracefully if $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not set

2012-10-08 Thread Darxus
My interest in this bug is resolved with ubuntu-desktop now having a

Is there any real chance anybody here is going to do anything on what
the summary was changed to, the lack of fallback if $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is
not set, especially now that it will be set by default for everyone due
to the above, or should it be closed "won't fix"?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 999141] Re: Dual monitor DisplayPort stopped working.

2012-10-08 Thread Julius Thor
Just docked my laptop and woke it up from sleep and it detected the two
monitors.

This was either fixed in the latest kernel or after I disabled polling
in drm_kms_helper:

echo N > /sys/module/drm_kms_helper/parameters/poll

I put it into /etc/rc.local to make it permanent.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 973096] Re: Nvidia driver causes xorg crash

2012-10-08 Thread abssorb
@Omer - Hi, Can you explain for the noob please?

Re: "enable the precise-proposed repository from software sources."

How to do this from the command line please? (lightdm, gnome and unity
graphics are garbled so I have to use command line)

Also is it possible to do this only for updates to do with the graphics. I
need the rest of the system to use a stable repo.
Thanks.

2012-10-08 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
Hi,

Oops!
Minor typo was found in the System Configuration section of the bug report.
Here is the correct description of the graphics card.

- ATI Technologies Radeon X600 graphics card
  * RV380
  * 128 MB DDR SDRAM
  * PCI Express x16

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

** Description changed:

  Hi,
-
+
I recently obtained a mainboard called ASUS P5VD1-X.
This is a little "odd ball" of a mainboard.
It contains an AGP 8X Slot (AGP 1.5V) and a PCI Express Gen 1 x16 Slot (x16
connector, x4 link).
Both AGP and PCI Express are connected to the Northbridge chip, VIA
Technologies PT880 Ultra.
PT880 Ultra is one of the last VIA Technologies chipset that supported Intel
platform.
A perfect mainboard to do hardware compatibility validation against number of
cards and Linux.
I updated the BIOS to the last release version (Revision 0704).
The problem is, booting will stop after displaying Unity GUI default
background wallpaper image under Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit.
It won't get to displaying launch bar with icons on the left side of the
screen or a title bar on the top part of the screen.
Note that I observed the same exact problem with XFX Radeon HD 5450 512 MB
DDR3 SDRAM graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 5450, Cedar PRO).
This bug doesn't seem to occur on Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA chipset-based
mainboards for some reason.
-

  System Configuration:
-
+
  - Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit
  - ASUS P5VD1-X mainboard
- * BIOS Revision 0704
- * VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra (Northbridge)
- * VIA Technologies VT8237R Plus (Southbridge)
+   * BIOS Revision 0704
+   * VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra (Northbridge)

  - Intel Pentium D
- * 2.66 GHz
- * 533 MHz FSB
+   * 2.66 GHz
+   * 533 MHz FSB

+   * 256 MB DDR 400 DDR SDRAM DIMM X 2 (in dual channel mode)
  - ATI Technologies Radeon X600 graphics card
- * RV380
- * 128 MB DDR SDRAM

+   * PCI Express x16
  - Pioneer DVR-111D PATA DVD-RW drive

-
+
Note that because I cannot boot Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit, the files attached
is from Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit.
Other than that, the system configuration is identical.
Please fix this bug as soon as possible.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing

2012-10-08 Thread Dàrent
@Rocko in #44 Modifying the xorg.conf worked for me, and it's a less
aggressive workaround that downgrading the drivers while we wait for the
next nvidia release, and is easy to revert if it doesn't work anyway.
Good luck.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1025488] Re: fglrx (not installed): fglrx kernel module failed to build [error: implicit declaration of function ‘do_mmap’]

2012-10-08 Thread Dv8tion
This Video card is listed on the Certified hardware, one would think it
is supposed to work pretty well.

http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/catalog/component/pci:1002:9715-VIDEO/
http://www.ubuntu.com/certification/catalog/component/pci:1022:9601/

The Motherboard and chipset may have variances but 12.04 worked, 10.10
worked, so... I think it is reasonable to suggest something broke
between that point, and the latest 12.10. Other than AMD punting
support for slightly not brand new products, I can't see what it it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063656] [NEW] [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit] Unity GUI will hang during bootup with ATI Technologies Radeon X600 (RV380) and VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra chipset

2012-10-08 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
Public bug reported:

Hi,

The problem is, booting will stop after displaying Unity GUI default background
wallpaper image under Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit.
It won't get to displaying launch bar with icons on the left side of the screen
or a title bar on the top part of the screen.
Note that I observed the same exact problem with XFX Radeon HD 5450 512 MB DDR3
SDRAM graphics card (AMD Radeon HD 5450, Cedar PRO).
This bug doesn't seem to occur on Intel, AMD, or NVIDIA chipset-based
mainboards for some reason.

System Configuration:

- Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit
- ASUS P5VD1-X mainboard
  * BIOS Revision 0704
  * VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra (Northbridge)
  * VIA Technologies VT8237R Plus (Southbridge)
- Intel Pentium D
  * 2.66 GHz
  * 533 MHz FSB
- 512 MB DDR 400 DDR SDRAM
  * 256 MB DDR 400 DDR SDRAM DIMM X 2 (in dual channel mode)
- ATI Technologies Radeon X600 graphics card
  * RV380
  * 128 MB DDR SDRAM
  * PCI Express x1
- Pioneer DVR-111D PATA DVD-RW drive
- PS/2 keyboard
- PS.2 mouse

Note that because I cannot boot Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit, the files attached
is from Ubuntu 10.04.4 LTS 32-bit.
Other than that, the system configuration is identical.
Please fix this bug as soon as possible.

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

Ubuntu 12.04 login screen

I'm getting Severe graphics corruption on my system. Graphics are fine
in Windows 7. I have had the motherboard and CPU replaced, the issue
still exists. Memory tests fine.

Symptoms:

1) The screen is covered in small wrong-color squares, almost like a
corrupt JPG. Some screen elements render fine (e.g: the twm menu) while
others are unreadable. Screen elements are not always drawn over when
they go away. See the pictures attached for examples:

2) Driver hangs on any 3d type activity. glxgears, for example, will
cause the screen to basicly freeze. The driver will then reset (as shown
in dmesg). xorg-edgers drivers do not appear to freeze, but glxgears
exits with "intel_do_flush_locked failed: Input/output error". glxgears
registers 0.163fps or lower.

3) The image seems to display properly using the VESA driver. (Boot
gentoo live-dvd with -nofb option)

4) With ubuntu and the xorg-edgers PPA, the corruption is present using
both the "uxa" and "sna" AccelMethod options in xorg.conf

5) Sometimes, switching to a VT and back will clean up the image for a
moment (i.e. until something moves) Also, after glxgears crashed with
the error above, most applications were readable. However, redraw
problems were still rampant, and trying to run glxgears again gives the
do_flush_locked error above

I have confirmed these issues are present when booting the following
distros:

Linux Mint 13 (64bit) Live-dvd
Ubuntu 12.04 (64bit) Install CD and Standard install
Gentoo 64bit Live-DVD 12.1 (regular boot, -nofb boots into vesa mode)
Ubuntu 12.04 with xorg-edgers PPA (As of July 22, 2012)

Hardware:
CPU: Intel i5-3470
Chipset: Intel Z77 (M/B: Asus P8Z77-V, bios rev 1205)
Memory: 2x 8GB Patriot G3 DDR3-12800 1600mhz
Monitor: VGA connected CRT or HDMI connected LCD

Currently Running kernel:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043513] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in memcpy() via cirRefreshArea() under KVM virtual machine

2012-10-08 Thread Stefan Bader
Things also became better with the Cirrus driver and VMs. After being able to
login I noticed that my KVM VM (which runs on a rather power efficient, iow not
too fast, machine) still has occasional crashes of this type. And there you can
see (and have to wait) every graphical "goodness" like fading in and out or
docking. While the host I run the Xen VM (which uses the same cirrus
emulation) runs rather smoothly (because it has more CPU power) and I think I
did not see any crash, yet.
That somehow leads me to believe this could be a problem (in the cirrus case)
of the communication between X driver, llvm-pipe and the emulated card being
overrun in some way.
Not sure how this relates to the nouveau case. I would not think the X driver
could be too fast for the 3D pipe in hardware. But maybe this gives X driver
people a hint.
