[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043636] Re: Graphics/screen error bug does not allow computer to loggon
The problem also blocked out access to the command shell, doing the same as going into a failsafe shell. The probel was so bad that I had to do a re-install, this problem appears to be fixed in the beta version. ** Description changed: I used the computer that this happened on about 2 hours before the bug occured, it worked Normally apart from loading grub a bit slow. So I turn it on and it gets to a screen that says something along the lines of there is a problem with the graphics or screen and I that they needed to be reconfigure manually. It had 4 choises, they were something along the lines of: - Run in failsafe graphics for just one session - Reconfigure video - Troubleshoot - Drop to root for login For the first option it would not load after saying 'Starting...' and - would just hang there for a while + would just hang there for a while until I decided to retry For the second option I could reocnfiure from defualts of saved back-up. Neither worked and would flash back to the same window. The third option did something and showed me logs, failed to show a boot log. The fourth did the same as the first option. The bug disappeared after removing files from my home directory. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1043636 Title: Graphics/screen error bug does not allow computer to loggon To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1043636/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
I'm having the same issue in 12.10. I just noticed it two days ago. I did quite a bit of updating from software center Updated some Tweaks stuff and other programs. Even added Htop hoping to catch something but all I caught was more freezes. Today ..it happened about 5 - 7 times. I've worked about 10 hours a day on this machine the past couple days and it's very annoying. Finally got this machine setup so I can work from home and now I'm considering going back to my Window's machines if my backups don't work. I run daily backups and I didn't notice this problem last week or even the past 3 or 4 days... just the past couple days. There were a few updates from Synaptic that I took on that were 70+ megs each. ... gonna try and roll back a few days ago and see if that helps. My issue always, always, always occur when I have multiple instances of the same program opened and try to transition between the windows . I am using unity. Example == OPen Text editor > open a file > click on text editor on the launch pad again > right click and select another instance of text editor. Sometimes I have 3 or 4 opened to review various log files , screen shots, traces, etc. Eventually, when I select the launchpad to open another application or another instance of the text editor, firefox or file manager or Ubuntu Tweak, etc and when it transitions to multiple windows then it locks the screens. The screens seem to have a ghostly almost translucent image. The mouse is free to move all over the screen but the keyboard is locked out or at least nothing respond to it Only option is to turn the power off and reboot. I do have Htop loaded and try to monitor memeory and stuff but nothing jumps out and when it locks of course I usually don't have Htop where i can see anything to point a finger at... THIS IS A 2 GIG MEMORY GX260 Optiplex DELL ... NOTHING SPECIAL BUT ALWAYS A SOLID WORK HORSE IN WINDOWS. JUST LOADED 12.10 ON IT THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS. DIDN'T HAVE THIS ISSUE ON MY 12.04 INSTALL ON THIS SAME MACHING. I UPGRADED TO 12.10 AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE ISSUE ON BETA 1 EITHER. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9
i see the same behavior (slowness, artifacts). moreover, when using "kwin_gles" instead of "kwin" the screen does not seem to be re-drawn correctly. for example, invoking the "run command interface" starts to show it but does not finish the animation. the result is that you type but don't see what you type. finally, turning off "use opengl 2 shaders" in the effects-config doesn't change anything either (neither for "kwin_gles" nor "kwin"). i hope this helps in some way to narrow down the issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1061073 Title: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mesa/+bug/1061073/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] Re: After X update, tty7 is very glitchy
It seems to be related to the /etc/rc.local script after all. I forgot to disable the execution bits the last time; but now I've run chmod -x, the problem really seems to be gone. I've done a fresh install and rebooted over 20 times, but I haven't seen anything weird anymore. So I think it's safe to say that running something from /etc/rc.local breaks the X session; something that didn't happen in earlier versions. ** Summary changed: - After X update, tty7 is very glitchy + After the latest X update, /etc/rc.local breaks the X session ** Description changed: - Since last night's updates, automatically logging in with LightDM causes - the screen to be blank with only a cursor shown.
