[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043636] Re: Graphics/screen error bug does not allow computer to loggon

2012-10-11 Thread MDV
The problem also blocked out access to the command shell, doing the same
as going into a failsafe shell. The probel was so bad that I had to do a
re-install, this problem appears to be fixed in the beta version.

** Description changed:

I used the computer that this happened on about 2 hours before the bug
occured, it worked Normally apart from loading grub a bit slow. So I
turn it on and it gets to a screen that says something along the lines
of there is a problem with the graphics or screen and I that they needed
to be reconfigure manually. It had 4 choises, they were something along
  the lines of:

  - Run in failsafe graphics for just one session
  - Reconfigure video
  - Troubleshoot
  - Drop to root for login

For the first option it would not load after saying 'Starting...' and
- would just hang there for a while
+ would just hang there for a while until I decided to retry

For the second option I could reocnfiure from defualts of saved back-up.
Neither worked and would flash back to the same window.

The third option did something and showed me logs, failed to show a boot
  log.

The fourth did the same as the first option.

The bug disappeared after removing files from my home directory.

I agree that is not the cause, but it affects it (so I marked it as
such)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-10-11 Thread Curtis Cox
I'm having the same issue in 12.10. I just noticed it two days ago.
I did quite a bit of updating from software center
Updated some Tweaks stuff and other programs.
Even added Htop hoping to catch something but all I caught was more freezes.
Today ..it happened about 5 - 7 times. I've worked about 10 hours a day on this
machine the past couple days and it's very annoying.
Finally got this machine setup so I can work from home and now I'm considering
going back to my Window's machines if my backups don't work.
I run daily backups and I didn't notice this problem last week or even the past
3 or 4 days...
just the past couple days. There were a few updates from Synaptic that I took
on that were 70+ megs each. ...
gonna try and roll back a few days ago and see if that helps.

My issue always, always, always occur when I have multiple instances of
the same program opened and try to transition between the windows . I am
using unity.

Example
==

OPen Text editor > open a file > click on text editor on the launch pad again >
right click
and select another instance of text editor. Sometimes I have 3 or 4 opened to
review
various log files , screen shots, traces, etc. Eventually, when I select the
launchpad to open another application or another instance of the text editor,
firefox or file manager or Ubuntu Tweak, etc and when it transitions to
multiple windows then it locks the screens. The screens seem to have a ghostly
almost translucent image. The mouse is free to move all over the screen but the
keyboard is locked out or at least nothing respond to it Only option is to
turn the power off and reboot.
I do have Htop loaded and try to monitor memeory and stuff but nothing jumps
out and when it locks of course I usually don't have Htop where i can see
anything to point a finger at...

THIS IS A 2 GIG MEMORY GX260 Optiplex DELL ... NOTHING SPECIAL BUT ALWAYS A
SOLID WORK HORSE IN WINDOWS.
JUST LOADED 12.10 ON IT THE PAST COUPLE MONTHS. DIDN'T HAVE THIS ISSUE ON MY
12.04 INSTALL ON THIS SAME MACHING. I UPGRADED TO 12.10 AND DIDN'T NOTICE THE
ISSUE ON BETA 1 EITHER.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063091] Re: Bamboo Connect (CTL-470k) not responding

2012-10-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
please install 'evtest' package, and test if you get events from the
kernel:

- log in from a virtual terminal (ctrl-alt-F1)
- sudo -s
- run evtest (with the correct /dev/input/eventID as an argument, you can check
ID from 'xinput list' from the desktop)
- use the tablet

do you see events passing by? if yes, then the kernel is ok

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 986675] Re: [n10] GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object not supported, compiz worked perfectly before upgrade (from 11.04)

2012-10-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The requirement for GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object is a Nux requirement,
and therefore a requirement of Unity (unityshell plugin).

Compiz 0.9.8+ has the ability to use GL_ARB_vertex_buffer_object, but it
does not make it a requirement like Nux/Unity does.

fix

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1065424] [NEW] xrandr crash when second monitor is --right-of or --left-of using Radeon drivers

2012-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When I connect a second monitor to my HP Envy 14, it appears in xrandr
and can be enabled with:

xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1440x900
However if I attempt anything but mirroring, for example placing the monitor
right of the main display X seems to crash.

xrandr --output HDMI-1 --mode 1440x900 --right-of LVDS
After pressing enter on this command I am kicked back into the lightdm login
screen. When I log back in the second monitor reverts to being disabled.

xrandr shows the following:

Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1600 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
LVDS connected 1600x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 0mm x 0mm

Disclaimer: I am running Awesome-WM and Cairo-composite-manager not the
default window manager. I am still using LightDM. Disabling Cairo does
not help. I have even tried launching gnome-settings-daemon to get the
gnome-control-center to work but this crashes in exactly the same way
after I click

In my case lockups gone with update of kernel 3.4, I have still issues
with 3.5.* and 3.6 hence I do not recommend those so far. Back to
nearly perfect desktop with 12.04.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1005167] Re: Double click on a folder in a Nautilus window is very slow

2012-10-11 Thread Davide Matarese
I have exactly the same problem. Altough I'v noticed that mouse cursor theme
affect it (oddy enough!)
Reverting to default "Adwaita" mouse cursor theme corrected the issue.

Another issue, with non-default mouse theme and nouveau drivers, is the
mouse cursor lag.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-10-11 Thread stefan
i see the same behavior (slowness, artifacts). moreover, when using "kwin_gles"
instead of "kwin" the screen does not seem to be re-drawn correctly. for
example, invoking the "run command interface" starts to show it but does not
finish the animation. the result is that you type but don't see what you type.
finally, turning off "use opengl 2 shaders" in the effects-config doesn't
change anything either (neither for "kwin_gles" nor "kwin").

i hope this helps in some way to narrow down the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-10-11 Thread R4v3n
I'm also affected by this bug. But it happens only when I'm using
google-chrome. When I open a new tab and begin to write some url, it
freezes completely, randomly. Nothing present in syslog, except, each
time, this trace (about 1 hour before the freeze) :

"Oct 11 12:33:18 PSA-L kernel: [100880.088410] type=1701
audit(1349951598.499:69): auid=4294967295 uid=1000 gid=1000

compat=0 ip=0x7fc4f1818fd9 code=0x50001"

My laptop is a Clevo W150ER with an Intel Core i3-3210M and a Nvidia Geforce GT
650M.
Bumblebee installed but my chrome uses only the Intel chip.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041239] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in xf86platformAddDevice on radeon

2012-10-11 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1064878] Re: After X update, tty7 is very glitchy

2012-10-11 Thread Kevin Keijzer
It seems to be related to the /etc/rc.local script after all. I forgot
to disable the execution bits the last time; but now I've run chmod -x,
the problem really seems to be gone. I've done a fresh install and
rebooted over 20 times, but I haven't seen anything weird anymore.

So I think it's safe to say that running something from /etc/rc.local
breaks the X session; something that didn't happen in earlier versions.

** Summary changed:

- After X update, tty7 is very glitchy
+ After the latest X update, /etc/rc.local breaks the X session

** Description changed:

- Since last night's updates, automatically logging in with LightDM causes
- the screen to be blank with only a cursor shown. The desktop does appear
- to be rendered on the background, because moving icons and clicking
- menus (after guessing where they are) does work. The only way to get
- things normal again is by restarting the lightdm service.

+ restarting the lightdm service, which essentially restarts the X server.

It doesn't seem to happen every time, but it does happen a lot. I have
- also noticed that when manually logging in, the dmesg output on tty7
- sometimes blends in with the desktop; for instance, a black box with a
- blinking cursor is shown, or when plugging in a USB thumb drive, the
- output from 'mount' will be displayed, until I move my cursor over that
- area.

I'm running fully up-to-date Xubuntu 12.10 (no proposed packages though)
on a laptop with Intel graphics (xserver-xorg-video-intel driver).
+
+ The problem appears to be caused by /etc/rc.local, which contains a line
+ to set my initial brightness. Removing everything from /etc/rc.local and
+ disabling the execution bit, seems to fix everything.
+
+ In previous versions, as well as in earlier Ubuntu and Debian installs,
+ having this script did not cause any trouble.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]

(In reply to comment #107)

> A Windows-only compose key program uses the "ctrl" key as the compose key.

Of course this is possible. Compose is unrelated to actions in the XKB
meaning of the term. It is not only possible, it is even implemented in
the XIM compose code. You can put

   : ae

and similar stuff in your .XCompose, and your left control key acts as a
Compose key. But you need the latest libX11 for this.
