[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1049460] Re: [Intel HD4000] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x01000000 IPEHR: 0x01000000
For what little it's worth, I haven't experienced this crash again, but after a bumpy period I stopped running concurrent X sessions. X stability has been much nicer in general, though, since the time when I reported this, during a period when several releases were described as "Merge from unreleased debian git". Thank you, I will certainly do this if and when the problem reappears. Now on 12.10, and things are slightly different. No problem with boot, but serious trouble that is superficially similar to the boot problems on resume from suspend with 2 X sessions active. The same popups, but now they mean business :-). I don't personally own this laptop, but I just finished helping a relative and here is what I've found. 1. In his setup it's a kernel update, using the older kernel works. Can you do the same? (3.2.0-24-generic vs. 3.2.0-32-generic) 2. It appears to be the exact same issue with 12.10. He can't even boot to a 12.10 install media. I will attach the 2 dmesg from both kernels. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1069574 Title: Intel graphics card driver update causes black screen To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1069574/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

You need linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic and linux-headers-generic as well, and they are indeed on the default image: http://releases.ubuntu.com/12.10/ubuntu-12.10-desktop-amd64.manifest So this looks like a bug during installation. Results in this (notice the > linux-headers-generic wasn't listed as a package to install, and it > fails to build the driver. Ah, I see the problem: nvidia-current depends on "linux-headers-generic | linux-headers", the intention is that you can also run e. g. the -lowlatency flavour and build against linux-headers-lowlatency instead. However, linux-headers-3.5.0-17 provides "linux-headers, linux-headers-3", which is a bad thing to do as they are incomplete! Only linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic should provide linux-headers (and does). Andy, what do you think about this? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 997470] Re: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot
apport-gpu-error-intel.py is just a script that gets run when udev detects a GPU fault. I am not able to reproduce any of the problems people are reporting, but probably that's because I do not get GPU faults on my hardware. The fix I uploaded is to stop installing the udev rule that triggers running /usr/share/apport/apport-gpu-error-intel.py See `man udevadm` for tips on examining your udev rules. I can't find on my systems anywhere that this script is being hooked in. But perhaps in certain corner cases it's still present. You can use udevadm to identify where it's hooked in. If it shows up there, let me know what you find, and that may give me more clues on how to fix this better. If you don't care to have a proper fix, and just want to eliminate the behavior on your system locally, just delete /usr/share/apport/apport- gpu-error-intel.py and it should stop bothering you (at least until your system updates and re-installs that file). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/997470 Title: apport-gpu-error-intel.py keep crashing for 4-5 times on every reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/997470/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

The same behavior is happening with an integrated ATI Rage Pro (AGP 2X and 4M memory) graphic card in a Dell OptiPlex GX1 using Lubuntu 12.10 Quantal Quetzal. After upgrading from 12.04, it doesn't enter in the X system, and the system tries to change to the graphic mode unsuccessfully in a loop indefinitely. I have been having a very similar issue with Ubuntu 12.10 and Gnome Shell. I am not entirely sure but I think that I have now fixed it by replacing my video card. I suspect that the old card was only marginally able to keep up with the systems's demands while the new one has no issue. Meanwhile, you can do an ALT-F2 and then type r and return to restart the Gnome Shell. Until I was able to replace my video board that worked for me every time. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071474] [NEW] [Dell Studio XPS 1340] DisplayPort does not work

Bug 1056511 has a proposed fix posted to it; if you suspect this might be a dupe of that bug then it would be worthwhile to test that patch. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 941708] Re: system crashes (freezes) while LibreOffice is running
I tried to execute the reporting procedure from [1, 2] and especially [3]: Nothing has been logged in kern.log during occurrence of the crash. The last logs were from the reboot process, which was necessary after the crash. The messages before were logged long before the system froze. Xorg.0.log seem to be reset at reboot. Thus I can not tell if something has been written there before the final freezing. When the system crashes (freeze), I can not switch to a terminal (via CTRL+ALT+F1). Thus I can not save a trace dump. But I noticed, that I can still move the mouse, although the rest of the screen is frozen. At the moment I have no second machine available, which I could use to inspect the "sick" machine via ssh. I did a memtest just in case, which passed (1/1). I future I might use the following commands while using libreoffice: sudo tail -f /proc/kmsg &> kmsg & tail -f /var/log/syslog &> syslog & tail -f /var/log/Xorg.0.log & To log further details, if it helps. But as I said, I do not use libreoffice this often, thus it might take a while until I deliver this data. Remember that this issue does only occur while using libreoffice. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071395] [NEW] Xorg freeze when unplugging AC power
Public bug reported: This is happening very frequently. I use dual external monitors with my laptop. When the laptop battery has charged, I unplug the AC cable. This results in both screens going black for a second or two and then resuming. However, every so often, approximately 1 in 3 times, the screen is frozen when it returns. I see the desktop but nothing is clickable, the mouse moves but I cannot select anything. Pressing CTRL + ALT + F1 and attempting to restart Unity, always fails, although I do sometimes get the keyboard back (i.e. I can open a terminal via the keyboard and enter commands, but the result is the same - the desktop proper does not re-appear). The only solution is to kill Xorg or a hard reset. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071389] [NEW] nvidia-current conflicts with fglrx (both cards present)
Public bug reported: I have primary AMD FirePro GPU for graphics and a secondary headless nVidia GTX 560Ti for OpenCL. In Ubuntu 12.04, it was possible to install both nvidia-current and fglrx alongside, and after adjusting alternatves for libGL.so, Xorg would happily use the first card, and nVidia was available for OpenCL computations. Since quantal, nvidia-current is conflicting with fglrx. While I can imagine this is intentional (most users won't ever need to install both), it is nevertheless a packaging bug. Please provide at least a workaround on how to install both drivers simultaneously. Version informations attached automatically (I hope). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1026046] Re: Missing support for thumb resting on bottom of clickpad
