[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812]
Just to add something as a reply on comment #114: Ubuntu has applied this patch already since 06 Jan 2011 all versions till nowadays, as you can see in the changelogs here: http://packages.ubuntu.com/quantal/xserver-xorg-core Select Ubuntu Changellog and then search for 208_switch_on_release.diff. Even after almost two years, there has been noone to file a bug report that this change breaks anything. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages
Hi, I'm sorry to add to the buzz on this bug. I did a new clean install on 12.10 and tried the gui preferred way with no luck. But with some workarounds as mentioned in this bug every thing worked. apt-get install linux-headers-generic Then at work when I updated the system things borked again to my big surprise? Again, no problem with some cli work, for those of us who are used to work that way. But, this is a really important regression in this release imho.. Ordinary users should not have there computers broken with an routine update. That's what we are proud of in the ubuntu community. It's always good to do an apt-get update; apt-get upgrade.. Things just works.. So I think, that this bug should be looked at some more, before categorizing it as a wishlist to dpkg.. Or are there only a few hw settings that gets messed up with this problem? -- Regards Falk -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068341 Title: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dpkg/+bug/1068341/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.
2046, thank you for your comments. Regarding them https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1072672/comments/14 : add 1: I'm on 3.6.2-030602-generic and have removed the 3.7.0-030700rc2 So what you want me to do is to install new mainline kernel and try it and send the apport-collect -p linux 1072672, right? No. What is requested is you boot into a Ubuntu kernel. For example, using Quantal mine is: uname -a Linux moniker-PC 3.5.0-17-generic #28-Ubuntu SMP Tue Oct 9 19:32:08 UTC 2012 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux not a mainline one, and then perform apport-collect -p linux 1072672 . Otherwise, the apport-collect will not gather the desired information. add 2: all the test (text files) I have committed where from the 3.7.0-030700rc2 kernel. Thank you for clarifying. add3: nope, it's better then the mainline kernel which has unstable the whole Xsession. In other words the problem is still present. btw I have found a post of a guy who runs the Arch linux on the same hardware as I have without problem. http://zenforyen.wordpress.com/2012/07/16/experiences-with-thinkpad-l530-on-arch-linux/ I also found this thread: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1076954 where they speak about the same issue and one guy on the end mentioned: ...After a full upgrade (back to 3.2.12), everything seems to work fine with Vt-D off (including virtual box). Turning Vt-D back on in the BIOS recreates the problem. Thanks for posting your solution I have enabled the Intel virtualization in my BiosAccording to this http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_itempx=MTAzNzk it might be a problem. I'll try to switch the virtualization off and let you know after some time if it freezes or not. Please test toggling the VT-D off in BIOS and report back if this changes anything. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073933] Re: Xorg is tremendously unstable
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: Xorg crashes far too easily. Just now it crashed while running disper -s (as a command shortcut). This is not systematic. Often I run disper -s or -S without xorg crashing. Other times xorg crashed without doing anything particular. I experience more than a couple of xorg crashes a week, this is unbelievable. Linux is known for its supposed stability. This should be on of the topmost priorities in Ubuntu (and any linux distribution). A xorg crash is a DISASTER, one can loose hours of work. Xorg must be rock-solid. It just crashed again when running disper -s. (I run it with a keyboard shortcut). I can't believe this hasn't been given importance critical yet. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1058040] Re: fglrx-installer not working with HD2000-4000 legacy cards in Quantal
Max Bowsher, thank you for your comments. Regarding them https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1058040/comments/42 : Your comment-less removal of a useful part of the bug description after the confrontations already occurred in this bug is frankly rude. Dave Lentz's additions to the Bug Description are unhelpful. Wikipedia is not a primary source of information about AMD's graphics cards. For more on this please see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx- installer/+bug/1058040/comments/39 . I shall add it back with additional notes. Please do not re-add this information to the Bug Description. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1075792] [NEW] Slow Unity performance in 12.10 Quantal Quetzal
Public bug reported: My ThinkPad T43 works quite well with Ubuntu 12.04, but with a clean install of 12.10, Unity is slow (I can type in the Unity Dash Home and then count the seconds as my letters slowly appear in sequence), sometimes freezes (when I close an application, the icon becomes faded in the Dash but doesn't disappear, and the application window just stays on the screen but I can't interact with it), and text develops little lines through it after suspend and resume (this was also present in 12.04 and can be fixed with a modification to the xorg.conf... something about debug-wait... but it would be nice if I didn't have to make that change on the whole batch of T43's I'm going to sell). @ Christopher Penalver: Why are you so very determined to make this bug's description LESS useful for users? I have a FirePro V5700 [RV730] which is affected by this. The nomenclature HD2000-4000 doesn't identify this card at all. The chip information is vastly more useful in identifying whether a given card is likely to be affected, yet you insist on deleting it even after I expanded the wording to document the interesting ambiguity of the FireStreams. I'll put my revised wording in my comment here, since you deleted it from the description: -- NOTE: It is mostly agreed that all AMD cards based on R(V)6x0 and R(V)7x0 chips are affected - if your board's chip is a member of these families, you should consider this bug report to most likely apply to you. As per http://support.amd.com/us/psearch/Pages/psearch.aspx?type=2.4.3%3b2.4.5%3b2.4.7product=2.4.7.3.3.3contentType=GPU+Download+Detailostype=Linux+x86keywords=items=20 , the last release specific for your card: AMD Proprietary Linux x86 Display Beta Driver 8.801 Beta 1/23/2011 However, the Bug Description link http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx discusses the following hardware: AMD Radeon HD 4000 Series AMD Radeon HD 3000 Series AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series AMD Radeon HD Series AGP AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series AMD Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series AMD Mobility Radeon HD 2000 Series The nomenclature HD2000-4000 doesn't identify this card at all. The Bug Title could be less ambiguous. However, the Bug Description, as noted above, does clear up what is covered. Despite this, I'll edit the Bug Title to clear this ambiguity up. The chip information is vastly more useful in identifying whether a given card is likely to be affected The information quoted from Wikipedia is not useful and is misleading. even after I expanded the wording to document the interesting ambiguity of the FireStreams. No ambiguity exists on the FireStream models noted in http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/AMDCatalystSoftwareSuiteVersion1211BetaReleaseNotes.aspx, and as discussed in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx- installer/+bug/1058040/comments/36 . As well, it would be demonstrably more helpful if you could please file a new report so we can track your hardware via a terminal: ubuntu-bug xorg For more on this, please see the Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad article: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue and Ubuntu Community article: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. Please note, not filing a new report may delay your problem being addressed as quickly as possible. Thank you for your understanding. ** Summary changed: - fglrx-installer not working with HD2000-4000 legacy cards in Quantal + fglrx-installer not working with AMD Radeon/Mobility Radeon HD 2000-4000 cards in Quantal ** Description changed: - Following the AMD decision to change to a new driver support model for - Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 series cards for the legacy 12.6 - driver as per http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages - /legacy-radeon_linux.aspx , fglrx-installer installs non-working drivers - for users of these cards. + Following the AMD decision to change to a new driver support model for Radeon™ HD 4000, HD 3000 and HD 2000 series cards for the legacy 12.6 driver as per http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/legacy/Pages/legacy-radeon_linux.aspx , fglrx-installer installs non-working drivers for users of the cards: + AMD Radeon HD 4000 Series + AMD Radeon HD 3000 Series + AMD Radeon HD 2000 Series + AMD Radeon HD Series AGP + AMD Mobility Radeon HD 4000 Series + AMD Mobility Radeon HD 3000 Series + AMD Mobility Radeon HD 2000 Series I suggest the addition of an fglrx-legacy package to install the AMD legacy drivers for users with older cards or patch the current code base for use with these cards. One of the outstanding issues for addressing this bug is AMD currently does not plan to support XServer 1.13 (for Ubuntu the package is xserver-xorg-core) for the legacy 12.6 driver, which Quantal uses: - apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core + apt-cache policy xserver-xorg-core xserver-xorg-core: - Installed: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 - Candidate: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 - Version table: - *** 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 0 - 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status + Installed: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 + Candidate: 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 + Version table: + *** 2:1.13.0-0ubuntu6 0 + 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main i386 Packages + 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status Output for fglrx 9.00 [1]: # lspci|grep VGA 01:05.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI RS780L [Radeon HD 3000] # modprobe fglrx FATAL: Error inserting fglrx

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1058040 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1058040 I'm not so sure that this is a duplicate of that bug. I did not have the proprietary drivers installed when I upgraded. This bug should have nothing to do with the proprietary drivers. I think this is a race condition durring boot. The last two boots were sucessfull I think because I was continuously moving the mouse. The last 20 or so boots failed unless I disconnected the HDMI cable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1071101 Title: nearly every other boot I get Low Graphics Mode message.
