[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1076269] [NEW] PowerPlay Missbehaves When Disabled

2012-11-08 Thread Alexandru Bucur
Public bug reported:

I'm on quantal with amd 12.11-beta on a Lenovo G770 laptop with Radeon
6770 drivers and Intel 3000 integrated.

On the discreet radeon card, when disabling the power play option it
goes from 400+ fps tp 25fps using fgl_glxgears and compiz is moving slow
as hell.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068601] Re: 12.10: Black screen with GeForce FX 5200 card

2012-11-08 Thread Graham
Hi Christopher

I also have a tablet (for testing) that I dabble with using Ubuntu
(usually betas then stable releases). This is also showing a similar
problem but this time, the screen is not black but shows only the
wallpaper after logon. I have tried the latest 3.7 rc2 kernel and the
screen goes really weird (hard to explain but I'll try and get a
screenshot). I have also tried a kernel similar to 12.04's (3.2.0-23)
but this makes no difference either. Should I open a new post for this?

:)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1076281] [NEW] kernel 3.5.0-18 update does not include headers update - nvidia_current stops working

2012-11-08 Thread GLenn
Public bug reported:

 0 down vote

After the update of kernel 3.5.0-18 was issued adn I rebooted, my
installation didnt work as nvidia.ko was not build

I needed to install the headers manually and then it was ok though
compiz acted unstable in the first minute.

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-18
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-18-generic
sudo depmod -a
sudo modprobe nvidia
sudo /etc/init.d/*dm restart

Anyway - I never ever had so many problems with nvidia_current as with 12.10
On initial installation I had to install the build-essentials manually to get
nvidia_current running

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1076288] [NEW] Radeon driver starts freezing and dies

2012-11-08 Thread Tomi Pieviläinen
Public bug reported:

Problem began playing a dvd with xbmc on dual screen setup. Everything
was fine, until I moved the mouse trying to get to the playback
controls. Then picture froze and after every few seconds the screens
blinked off and back again, with some temporary graphical glitches. This
persisted until I kill -9:ed xbmc, after which things seemed to
normalize. Trying to open a new window caused the same blink again, but
very slowly the terminal appeared. When the glitches didn't go away, I
tried restarting lightdm, but it only managed to stop, not start again.
However the console was still working.

After a while, start lightdm did work again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073876] Re: 1680x1050 resolution has wrong clock value?

2012-11-08 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Looks like the bug is related to FB modesetting done by linux-
image-3.5.0-18-generic kernel. I rebooted into 3.2.0-30-generic and the
resolution became correct.

Reassign the bug the the linux-image kernel package please.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1052000] Re: external monitor is invisible through vga-hdmi adaptor

2012-11-08 Thread Max
With xserver-xorg-video-intel 2.20.9-0ubuntu2 on xubuntu 12.10 x86_64
and kernel 3.5.0-18-generic external monitor mirrors part of the mail
monitor (which has better resolution) - it's impossible to use it as
external monitor and have separate desktop on it.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2012-11-08 Thread Helmer Teles
Hi,

it seems that Canonical is looking to provide Linux DaaS to its
portfolio of products.

So maybe this is the time to look at this bug once and for all since
people here almost gave them the solution.

More info here from the great x2go team.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068601] Re: 12.10: Black screen with GeForce FX 5200 card

2012-11-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Graham, thank you for your comments. Regarding them
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1068601/comments/44 :
I tried adding the sources for 12.04 (and 12.10) but I'm getting 404 not
found errors on both. As 12.04 is an LTS release,...

Instead of changing sources in an installed Precise, what you would want
to do instead is use a live environment, then follow the directions on
installing the xorg PPA in a live environment mentioned in
https://launchpad.net/~xorg-
edgers/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=precise .

Regarding
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1068601/comments/45
and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1068601/comments/46
:

I also have a tablet... ...an old HP TC1100, should I open a new
post for this?

If you have a bug in Ubuntu with the tablet, could you please file a new report
by executing the following in a terminal:
ubuntu-bug linux

For more on this, please see the Ubuntu Kernel team article:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Filing_Kernel_Bug_reports

the Ubuntu Bug Control and Ubuntu Bug Squad article:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/BestPractices#X.2BAC8-Reporting.Focus_on_One_Issue

and Ubuntu Community article:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette

When opening up the new report, please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Please note, not filing a new report may delay your problem being
addressed as quickly as possible.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1059655] Re: 1002:94a3 fglrx doesn't work with ATI FirePro M7740 chip

2012-11-08 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

The fgrlx package now installs successfully for me. However, I
believe it's not recognizing my chip, the ATI FirePro M7740. This is
the chip that Dell uses in the Precision M6500 laptop from about 3 years
  ago.

I have a few reasons for thinking fglrx isn't doing its job for this
  chip:

  (1) When I run fglrxinfo, I get the following output:

  cjc@awesome:~$ fglrxinfo
X Error of failed request: BadRequest (invalid request code or no such
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 153 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 19 (X_GLXQueryServerString)
Serial number of failed request: 12
Current serial number in output stream: 12

  (2) When I run amdcccle, I get a dialog box with this message:

There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition.
It could be caused by the following.

No AMD graphics driver is installed, or the AMD driver is not functioning
properly.
Please install the AMD driver appropriate for you AMD hardware, or configure
using aticonfig.

  (3) When I run aticonfig, I get this message:

  aticonfig: No supported adapters detected

  I tested

https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa/+packages?field.name_filter=field.status_filter=publishedfield.series_filter=quantal
  but this did not work.

  As per
  http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/fire/previous/Pages/fire_linux.aspx
the newest driver that explicitly mentions ATI FirePro™ M7740 (Dell
  Precision M6500) is

http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/fire/previous/Pages/fire.aspx?os=Linux%20x86rev=8.911.3.4
  as per the Release Notes
+ http://www2.ati.com/drivers/firepro/workstation8.911.3.4.pdf . However,
+ it states that it is not supported in Linux.
+
+ As per AMD one would need to download the drivers via
+ http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/precision-m6500 .

+ The release notes on
http://www2.ati.com/drivers/firepro/workstation8.911.3.4.pdf clearly states
that none of the Workstation Mobility prodcuts are supported under Linux.
Please check column Linux and you will see No. However that doesn't mean
there are no Linux drivers available for these products. The reason we have
removed the Linux OS from the drop down menu is that the driver will be offered
by the OEM, if at all.
+ For example for DELL Precision M6500 you can obtain the Linux drivers from
the following page:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/Product/precision-m6500

WORKAROUND: In Quantal 64-bit use the PPA

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061073] Re: Desktop effects are slow and desktop corruption using mesa 9

2012-11-08 Thread Robert Hooker
Yeah it's fixed in kwin 4.9.3, which was uploaded to raring recently.
It'll be SRUed to quantal very soon now. The mesa task I targetted is
for another issue with the screen not updating that'll be fixed in mesa
9.0.1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071530] Re: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

2012-11-08 Thread Stefan Glasenhardt
You are right. I made a mistake in my statement. Normally the
pre-i915-chipsets should work with Mesa 9.0 but their seems to be a bug
which breaks OpenGL on these chipsets.

Maybe you can provide me some more informations. Can you please run the
following command and post the output:

env LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose glxgears

The package mesa-utils is needed for glxgears.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1048701] Re: NVidia GPU lock-up on 12.10 Beta-1

2012-11-08 Thread Hans Nieser
I was unable to install Ubuntu 12.10 today from USB stick on my PC with
a Geforce 580GTX due to this bug. It would happen within a minute or so
after Unity coming up. Had to install with a spare radeon. Working
better now after installing nvidia closed source drivers (which was
quite a challenge for a newbie like me since it wouldn't list it under
'Additional Drivers' without the card actually being in the PC)

That is truly bizarre.

On my system, fso-deviced is not installed.

What I found that finally worked is changing xorg.conf, adding the line

Option dpms false

in the Server Flags section, and removing the

Option DPMS

line from the Monitor section.

Is your problem. Did you recently remove an AMD video card from the

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 977588] Re: GPU hangs with PGRAPH TLB flush idle timeout fail

2012-11-08 Thread Alistair Buxton
I just got this crash. I have GT215 based nvidia card too. This card is
notorious for crashing with Nouveau. I got the crash 7 minutes after
installing 12.10, while I was installing the first updates. I hadn't
installed any extra software and nothing was running except for the
default desktop and update manager.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071530] Re: X Error of failed request: BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)

2012-11-08 Thread Stefan Glasenhardt
@ciaopaste:

I'm not a developer. I'm just making some packages out of some freely
available source-code. But i'll try my best to narrow down the cause of
the bug and try to help the developers to fix it.

@G. Christ:
Okay, this means the DRI-driver is still used but there seems to be some
problems with the memory allocation (As far as i know). It must be a Mesa-bug
because when using version 8.0.4, the newest graphics-driver and a newer
kernel-version as 3.2.0 OpenGL still works. Only when using Mesa 9.0 the bug
occurs.

Also the bug occurs in other distributions which use Mesa 9.0 e.g.
RedHat, Arch and so on. As i wrote i'm trying to narrow down the bug and
i think i found the cause but need a bit more time for testing (At the
moment i have no more 855GM-based notebook and i have to ask my uncle to
borrow me his ;-) )

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 887993] Re: desktop sluggish after resume from suspend

2012-11-08 Thread Jean-Pierre
I have a computer with an nVidia video card, using proprietary drivers.
I experience this issue.

I have to add that after a suspend/resume cycle my videos playback
slowly if they are enlarged, but normally when there's a 1:1 relation
between display pixels and video pixels, meaning that hardware
accelerated video resizing isn't working properly. I hope this
information may be useful to diagnose this issue.

Reloading compiz fixes the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1035499] Re: put xorglog.py into Precise

2012-11-08 Thread Bryce Harrington
** Description changed:

- I've been working on a script for Hardware Certification and OEM QA
- usage (and hopefully more) that reports on some graphics driver info.
+ [Impact]
+ Xorg.0.log has a ton of useful information for QA purposes, yet the file is
not well structured for programmatic examination, as is necessary when running
automated QA tests. During the raring cycle a number of efforts seek to
establish automated testing of X.org, so having this code more widely available
will help facilitate the scripts.
+
+ [Test Case]
+ $ python
+ from xdiagnose.xorglog import XorgLog
+ xorglog = XorgLog('/var/log/Xorg.0.log')
+ print xorglog.video_driver
+ RADEON
+ print xorglog.xserver_version
+ 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6
+ print xorglog.errors
+ ['Failed to load module fglrx (module does not exist, 0)', 'Failed to load
module fglrx (module does not exist, 0)']
+
+ Expected Results: As above
+ Actual Results: The import will fail with module not found
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ None, this merely adds a python module that nothing in the distro requires.
Future tests and tools will be introduced to depend on this module.
+
+ [Original Report]
+ I've been working on a script for Hardware Certification and OEM QA usage
(and hopefully more) that reports on some graphics driver info.

For now, it reports the running graphics driver and version, and does a
check for hybrid graphics and lists DDX drivers listed in Xorg.0.log.

For the moment, I have had to copy the XorgLog class from xorglog.py
into my script directly because our code needs to be supported on
Precise, but xorglog.py only exists currently in Trunk.

So I'm asking for an SRU to get xorglog.py into the xdiagnose for
Precise to support this testing, and potentially future tests that could
rely on code in xdiagnose for the Hardware Certification and OEM QA
  Teams.

Getting this into Precise will help a LOT as I'll be able to remove my
hacked copy from my test scripts and use a simple Import. This will make
my code infinitely more maintainable and I'll not have to maintain a
copy of the XorgLog class that is out of sync with the copy that Bryce
is developing/maintaining. This will also allow me to write one script
that works on everything from Precise onward.

Precise is requested because these tests will be part of the Cert suites
as well as OEM QA test suites, and most of that work will be based on
Precise for some time to come.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-11-08 Thread adam jvok
I have the same problem. 12.10, 64 bit.
Every day or 2 I get a complete freeze - no mouse/keyboard repsonse, screen
does not change (clock does not advance), no ssh/ping reply. Nothing in logs.
I've been seeing this on several different PCs through few versions of Ubuntu
(all 64 bit) for at least 18months.
Never see this on a machine running 32bit.

I actually originally attempted the official xorg package and was trying
this workaround as suggested by you in a similar bug report. Should I
resubmit this exact report but with the official package instead?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 621432]

2012-11-08 Thread Peter Hutterer
Pad Resolution is currently readonly on purpose - your pad is unlikely
to change resolutions at runtime. I admit it would make testing it
easier but right now you need to add an xorg.conf(.d) option for it.
synclient appears to be lacking it altogether, that should be fixed
(patches appreciated)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 621432]

2012-11-08 Thread TB2
I have the same problem. I use one screen above the other and my
vertical mouse pointer speed is about double of the horizontal speed.
It's unusable this way.

Now this might be a different bug or not a bug at all, but I noticed
that the VertResolution and HorizResolution options are missing, even
though they are specified in man synaptics:

---
Option VertResolution integer
Resolution of X coordinates in units/millimeter.
The value is used together with HorizResolution to
compensate unequal vertical and horizontal sensi‐
  tivity. Setting VertResolution and HorizResolution
equal values means no compensation. Default value
is read from the touchpad or set to 1 if value
could not be read. Property: Synaptics Pad Reso‐
  lution

Option HorizResolution integer
Resolution of Y coordinates in units/millimeter.
The value is used together with VertResolution to
compensate unequal vertical and horizontal sensi‐
  tivity. Setting VertResolution and HorizResolution
equal values means no compensation. Default value
is read from the touchpad or set to 1 if value
could not be read. Property: Synaptics Pad Reso‐
  lution

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1073724] Re: Pointer barriers have gaps along the edge of the screen

2012-11-08 Thread Tim
here are excerpts from my IRC conversation with Jasper re this bug.

Jasper darkxst, it's entirely possible that it will break it on monitor edges
darkxst the barrier_find_nearest() function definately breaks on the monitor
edges when using the unclamped values
Jasper darkxst, I'm quite sure it will break BarrierNotify behavior, to be
honest

Jasper I know exactly what the issue is: since we're using the unclamped
positions, they're not clamped to the screen edges
darkxst if I hit the top edge I the screen it almost always slides past

Jasper darkxst, we have three pieces of information: where the mouse came
from, where the mouse is going to unclamped to the screen edges, where the
mouse is going to clamped to the screen edges
Jasper darkxst, between those three it should be possible to figure something
out, but I can't figure anything out
Jasper darkxst, the issue that RAOF was talking about was what happens when
clamped and where the mouse is coming from end up to be the same thing -- that
is, when we're bumping against a barrier on the screen edge
Jasper so we switched to unclamped to allow for screen edges there
Jasper now what's happening is that the unclamped mouse position is outside
the bounds of the monitor, which the barrier doesn't reach to, so it doesn't
consider it blocked
Jasper darkxst, feel free to copy/paste this conversation onto the LP bug --
whatever solution RAOF comes up with is really interesting to me, because I'm
turning his patches into a core X feature for 3.8.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1076890] Re: GNOME Shell crash
