[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081922] [NEW] Screen resolution bonkers on undock
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 12.10, apt-get upgrade daily, this started a few days ago (probably after 2012-11-15). Things were, finally, quite perfect for a few weeks before that. Thanks to whoever fixed the docking/undocking nightmare previously. Now it is back with a vengeance. When undocking, the display resolution on the default X screen (screen 7) is stretched. Only the lower about 40% of the screen shows on the physical screen. The background image and any app window is enlarged and distorted. Very little can be done, since the menu entries on the top bar apparently are placed above the physical screen. This happens no matter how the undocking is done. Lock screen, suspend, nothing helps. Oddly, the next display (screen 8, default for guest session) is not affected. What I do is to log in on the primary display with a dummy user made for this purpose, choose my real user for an extra login, and work normally. I tried to have a guest login in screen 8 and undock when on that screen, but screen 7 was still affected. root@...:~# dpkg -l | grep xserver-xorg-video-intel ii xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.9-0ubuntu2 amd64X.Org X server -- Intel i8xx, i9xx display driver root@...:~# lshw -C display *-display description: VGA compatible controller product: Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller vendor: Intel Corporation physical id: 2 bus info: pci@:00:02.0 version: 02 width: 64 bits clock: 33MHz capabilities: msi pm vga_controller bus_master cap_list rom configuration: driver=i915 latency=0 resources: irq:44 memory:f200-f23f memory:d000-dfff ioport:1800(size=8) root@...:~# uname -a Linux ... 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux root@...:~# ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1081922 Title: Screen resolution bonkers on undock To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1081922/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you file a new bug report. Some tips: * Report X.org bugs via the command: `ubuntu-bug xorg` * Test against the latest development Ubuntu. http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/ Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority attention. * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and analyzing a few common X problems. * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue in. * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug reports. ** Changed in: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1072840 Title: Laptop hangs after screen goes into powersave To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1072840/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082008] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: see Bug 1080427 The same problem occurs in 12.04 but only once a week. In 13.04 it occurs a couple of time per day. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 797478] Re: Corrupt Graphics and Fonts Resume from Hibernate
Paul Aitken, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Natty reached EOL on October 28, 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Once testing of the development release is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your understanding. This also occurs on a ThinkPad R61 that has the Intel 965GM video driver. Gallium .04 on llvmpipe is loaded at boot/login. However, logging out and back in always loads the correct Intel 965 driver. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943880] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() from malloc_printerr() via XIDestroyDeviceProperty
I was curious about the dialog i receive often about some internal error after startup, or while using the system, and looked at the details. After that i found this bug. The fact that in the last comments the touchpad is mentioned, and the base report is loenovo x220 related, I can only provide a litte bit as addition: Current system with the latest updates: Linux x220i 3.2.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 15 10:48:16 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux The synaptics package is: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2 The syndaemon is running with params: syndaemon -i 2.0 -K -R -t And the most important info, i have totally disabled my touchpad for 5 months at least , because i am full satisfied with the trackpoint since i used it with IBM thinkpads for decades. So the touchpad is disabled at boot every time. Do i need the syndaemon if i never want to use the touchpad? That would be at least for only me(!) a possible workaround. I also think the crash notification comes more frequently after i use an external monitor and disconnect it (before or after shutdown does not matter), and boot next time without the external monitor. I hope this helps. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/943880 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() from malloc_printerr() via XIDestroyDeviceProperty To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/943880/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

I am able to work around the problem by suspending the laptop and then resuming it. I googled this problem and it appears that others are experiencing it with different laptops. It may very well be the problem described in detail here: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=690198 If I boot into the 12.10 installer I get the very same issue. However, booting into the 12.04.1 installer everything works as it should (no display corruption). I am willing to test out any suggested fixes.
