[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081922] [NEW] Screen resolution bonkers on undock

2012-11-22 Thread Jon Eliot
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.10, apt-get upgrade daily, this started a few days ago
(probably after 2012-11-15). Things were, finally, quite perfect for a
few weeks before that. Thanks to whoever fixed the docking/undocking
nightmare previously. Now it is back with a vengeance.

When undocking, the display resolution on the default X screen (screen
7) is stretched. Only the lower about 40% of the screen shows on the
physical screen. The background image and any app window is enlarged and
distorted. Very little can be done, since the menu entries on the top
bar apparently are placed above the physical screen.

This happens no matter how the undocking is done. Lock screen, suspend,
nothing helps.

Oddly, the next display (screen 8, default for guest session) is not
affected. What I do is to log in on the primary display with a dummy
user made for this purpose, choose my real user for an extra login, and
work normally. I tried to have a guest login in screen 8 and undock when
on that screen, but screen 7 was still affected.

2012-11-22 Thread Jon Eliot
(Expletive deleted)
It happens now also on screen 8 with my primary user. I simply cannot pick up
the laptop and go to a meeting. Logout/login required. This is seriously
driving me towards Windows (no offense intended, but I need to do my job even
more than I need to use my preferred OS).

It is my damned user.
Same symptom now on ordinary login with the laptop out of docking. So it is the
driver, in combination with something else.
Tried to remove all compiz settings and cache, no sweat. Now at Witt's End.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072840] Re: Laptop hangs after screen goes into powersave

2012-11-22 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081922] Re: Screen resolution bonkers on undock

2012-11-22 Thread Jon Eliot
Login with Unity: screen bonkers.
Login with Classic Gnome: screen bonkers.
Login with Classic Gnome (no effects): screen ok.

I can live with this.

If any configuration is interesting, in order to find out what is
happening here with the X system in combination with desktop managers
that use advanced features, I am happy to provide. Should the error
report perhaps be elsewhere?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 797478] Re: Corrupt Graphics and Fonts Resume from Hibernate

2012-11-22 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Paul Aitken, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Natty
reached EOL on October 28, 2012.
Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number

Once testing of the development release is complete, please mark this
bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you
for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 137234]

2012-11-22 Thread Bryce Harrington
From reading the last several comments it looks like Intel was going to
re-test on their M400 but so far there's no indications anyone has
confirmed it fixed, so I think this got closed out too quickly. The
downstream bug shows one user still reproducing the bug in precise as of
June (dmesg and Xorg.0.log on that bug if interested).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074779] Re: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel

2012-11-22 Thread Kirk M
This also occurs on a ThinkPad R61 that has the Intel 965GM video
driver. Gallium .04 on llvmpipe is loaded at boot/login. However,
logging out and back in always loads the correct Intel 965 driver. The
Processoris a 2x Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T7100 @ 1.80GHz. All
Intel chipsets (video, network, sound, etc). A bit odd this problem
wasn't picked up and fixed before release.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 943880] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message() from malloc_printerr() via XIDestroyDeviceProperty

2012-11-22 Thread gna
I was curious about the dialog i receive often about some internal error
after startup, or while using the system, and looked at the details.
After that i found this bug.

The fact that in the last comments the touchpad is mentioned, and the
base report is loenovo x220 related, I can only provide a litte bit as
addition:

Current system with the latest updates:
Linux x220i 3.2.0-34-generic #53-Ubuntu SMP Thu Nov 15 10:48:16 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
The synaptics package is:
xserver-xorg-input-synaptics 1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2

The syndaemon is running with params:
syndaemon -i 2.0 -K -R -t

And the most important info, i have totally disabled my touchpad for 5
months at least , because i am full satisfied with the trackpoint since
i used it with IBM thinkpads for decades. So the touchpad is disabled at
boot every time.

Do i need the syndaemon if i never want to use the touchpad? That would
be at least for only me(!) a possible workaround.

I also think the crash notification comes more frequently after i use an
external monitor and disconnect it (before or after shutdown does not
matter), and boot next time without the external monitor.

I hope this helps.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082187] [NEW] Asus “out of area” warning in the middle of the screen

2012-11-22 Thread Thibaut Brandscheid
Public bug reported:

Linux tux-p4 3.7.0-3-generic #9-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 20 22:40:43 UTC 2012 i686
i686 i686 GNU/Linux
vendor release number: 1130
X.Org version: 1.13.0

What happens:
When starting the PC a blue window appears on the middle of the screen
displaying in German an “out of area” message (see attached image:
asus-out_of_area.jpg). The blue window appears before being able to log in and
stays there after log in. Switching the monitor off and on has no effect. When
pressing the 'print screen' button the blue window will not get captured.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082234] [NEW] i915 display corruption on Acer Aspire S5

2012-11-22 Thread Riskable
Public bug reported:

After a fresh install of 12.04.1 and an upgrade to 12.10 I am
experiencing a bug where the display is corrupted/flickering; colors are
non-existent and part of the screen is cut off. I am able to work
around the problem by suspending the laptop and then resuming it. I
googled this problem and it appears that others are experiencing it with
different laptops. It may very well be the problem described in detail
here:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=690198

If I boot into the 12.10 installer I get the very same issue. However,
booting into the 12.04.1 installer everything works as it should (no
display corruption). I am willing to test out any suggested fixes.

2012-11-22 Thread Redsandro
I have a similar problem with the brand new Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon laptop.
Trackpoint works in Ubuntu 12.04. In 12.10, it does not. (?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1081922] Re: Screen resolution bonkers on undock

2012-11-22 Thread Jon Eliot
Found the culprit. ~/.config/monitors.xml

Somehow corrupted, XML format was ok, contents were not.
Attached the file, suffix yikes.

** Attachment added: ~/.config/monitors.xml that corrupts screen when no
external monitor
