[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071101] Re: nearly every other boot I get Low Graphics Mode message.

2012-11-24 Thread Henrik Sölver
Same issue with a Intel sandy bridge system. But the problem started to show up
around a week ago, probably after some update. before that 12.10 worked fine.
The trick suggested here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lightdm/+bug/995397 (restarting
lightdm) will get it running again.
The Xorg log (complete log attached):
Fatal server error:

2012-11-24 Thread Henrik Sölver
Replaced lightdm with gdm and have now restarted the computer about 10
times without any low graphic mode problem. It seems to be a lightdm
issue more than a X.org one.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1082621] [NEW] Desktop icons dissapear after executing xrandr

2012-11-24 Thread Pontus Goffe
Public bug reported:

To shut off my laptop screen and adjust resolution on my external screen I
execute
xrandr --output VGA1 --off
xrandr --output LVDS1 --off
xrandr --output VGA1 --auto
and recently (2-3 weeks) this has made all desktop icons to dissapear from
screen.
At one time I thought I had a workaround by
ln -s ~/Skrivbord ~/Desktop
which is my localized name of Desktop, but it only worked the first time.
I find no logs with hints, currently I only know of one way of getting the
icons back which is reboot. Adjusting resolution or turning on laptopmonitor
has no effect.

Getting this problem with GTX590 after trying an update from 12.04 and also

To be noticed : My GPUGRID work units all suddenly failed 2 days ago under
12.04 : Some software updates may be the cause.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 113344] Re: USB mouse freezes while using the keyboard

2012-11-24 Thread Gerrit Addiks
It is not true that it does only affect USB-Mouses. I have three
pointing devices: a bluetooth trackpad (Magic Tackpad), a bluetooth
mouse (Magic Mouse) and a USB gaming mouse. When typing, both mouses
(bluetooth and USB) freeze for a second, but the Trackpad stays usable.
The problem could be removed with sudo killall mousemon.

2012-11-24 Thread Rabit rabit
Today it happened again twice.

The first time today crashed while I was moving my mouse. Only firefox
opened, but earlier before that I did play something on youtube about an
hour before.

The second time happened just now, while I was playing a MP4 using VLC.
Only played for like 2 seconds than crashed.

Ubuntu 12.04 (always updated) (32bit)
3.4.0-030400-generic-pae
Core2Duo with Geforce 7600
Nvidia driver 304.64

I suspect (guess) sound card driver. How do I check which sound chip I
have and how to get an driver update if there's any?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042492] Re: Open source radeon driver causes laptop to heat up / run fan non-stop

2012-11-24 Thread Tyler Burton
Bryce, I understand that it is probably standard procedure to mark
something like this as Wishlist but it is honestly bad enough that I
cannot run my machine with it. This means that I am effectively stuck at
12.04 or earlier (as ATI no longer supports my card on the new version
of Xorg).

The open source driver is adequate for my needs in every other way.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2012-11-24 Thread Steve Isaacson
The attached screen shot shows two views of the same window. The one in
the foreground shows the problems.

How to duplicate the problem.

1. Click on XTERM on the menu bar to open a new xterm window
2. Hold down the Enter key for 20 lines or so. That's what you see: the prompt
disappears and the vertical white 'line' appears
3. Click out of the window to another window and the window is redrawn
correctly (i.e., the prompts re-appear).

The problem (i.e., display corruption) occurs at various other times as
well and comes close to rendering the program unusable.

Note: to capture the screen shot of the problem I used the Take
Screenshot program and set the Grab after a delay setting to 10
seconds, clicked in the window, then held the Enter key down for a few
seconds.

** Attachment added: Example of the problem. Trivial to duplicate.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1079906] Re: 046d:c044 Logitech mouse does not work correctly

2012-11-24 Thread boskysquelch
@Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) during the first two weeks of
Septemeber of this year things finally went from bad to worse.

Up until the start of September 2012 I had noticed and steady regression
of the wired mouse's ability to operate as it should do. Over a number
of years; 3 infact. Ever hopeful that someone somewhere was having
issues and work was being done somewhere to some good. Believing that
Logitech mice were popular enough to be taken particular not of.

The it got to the point of putting it away to only use in Emergencies(eg
trackpad death on laptops) or to drop into Mac OSX on this Mac mini.
Before this time it had been bearable but not without issue.

The wireless mouse I use just became useless in a Ubuntu environs as of
the second or third week on September 2012; which was around the time I
found the now expired report of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1043413 . Up until
that time it had worked without issue. Not issues or problems at all.
Not withstanding that I never took it to it's multi-function
capabilities(eg different buttons for different uses in media players
etc) but it functioned totally as it should have done in programs such
as GIMP, Firefox, VLC etc..but now it will not play at all. Nothing
works correctly. It points but doesn't fire or rather fires randomly off
so randomly as to be like not worth of use.

Back to the wired mouse being used now. This message for example
required 20 plus extra clicks to be able to read type whilst the
page scrolled randomly up and down. Then when I finally started typing
out these last two sentences the lines of text stopped jumping up and
down.

The above is quite typical ...and it is also quite typical that within 5
seconds of completing those sentences the problem began again :/

And now it's stopped. :)

Sometimes it never stops. Requiring a hard reset. Which sometimes puts a
stop to it. Sometimes not. But mostly as the session continues, it
continues to worsen in ever increasing and decreasing degrees. :(

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1060059] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in ResFindAllRes()

2012-11-24 Thread Dave Gilbert
I've just put a load of comments on the upstream bug

The short story is that a patch to
   Xext/xres.c ResFindAllRes
to change

   counts[(type  TypeMask) -1]++
to
   if ((type  TypeMask)!=0) counts[(type  TypeMask) - 1]++;

stops the crash.

The longer story is, I don't think that case of a 0 type should be reached, but
I don't know about the innards of X to be sure.
I've commented one case on the upstream bug and how to stop it, and also a
suggestion to make it safer to stop it triggering.

After moving the files and disabling/enabling the power settings, more
of these errors appeared.

This started for me at random... i recently updated to 12.10, but it's
been running fine for a few days. This just happened when I started up
this last time (didn't reboot to see if it continued).

I also have a dead battery (flashing orange battery light on Dell
Inspiron 6000), which failed maybe 4 or so boots ago.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 949071] Re: CRT monitor refresh setting always resets to 60 after reboot

2012-11-24 Thread Jeremy VanGelder
I tried the method described by daniel @ 22 of deleting all the meta-
modes except the one I wanted. This did not work. On restarting the
computer, it used a refresh rate which I did not set. All of the meta-
modes which I had deleted were undeleted. I did not make daniel's
modifications to xorg.conf.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1074779] Re: llvmpipe used after clean install instead of intel

2012-11-24 Thread Andrew Fry
Logging out and back works for me. I've got Intel G43 Intel ICH10 -
happy to send details/logs if that helps.
