Rebooting and not using compiz fixes it. I haven't done tests to narrow

Gnome probably does not suffer from this bug if it doesn't have any
vsync enabled by default. That's equivalent to "WORKAROUND (2)" listed

Clean installed 12.10.
Tried installing latest driver from ATI website, rebooted to no unity and can't
even switch to virtual terminals (they just show black screen).
Tried the workaround with the same results.
Let me know if I can provide more information.

reference #8
No, it is a ubuntu Raring Vs KVM issue, not the other way round :) KVM is part
of the kernel, it is also part of cloud, guestfish which is a tool for KVM also
will not run under quantal (there is new stuff being applied for raring).
Raring KVM cannot run 'raring' without the video issue. KVM something is
very broken in raring, not the other way round.
I'm NOT 100% sure if
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubiquity/+bug/1088692 is a true
duplicate of this bug, as there is no section that has stated the reason for it
to fail.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088780] Re: XOrg configuration for Apple Magic Trackpad needs more vertical sensitivity

2012-12-13 Thread rfkrocktk
I found a fix for another really annoying misconfiguration when using
two-finger click. Often, when right-clicking something, you'll
automatically click the first right-click menu item instantly, due to
there not being a sufficient timeout between the two-finger click and
the release.

I was able to patch this by adding Option "EmulateMidButtonTime" "100"
to my patch, which I'm going to include here. Better by the day :)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 847484] Re: quassel crashed with SIGSEGV in _IO_vfprintf_internal()

2012-12-13 Thread Rafael Belmonte
Okay, I have done some new tests, in two totally different computers, one with
Intel graphics card and the other with ATI/AMD graphics card.
With X server to becomes crazy I mean, all windows starting to flash and being
totally unresponsive for instance.
An important discovery is that the bug only occurs when Quassel window is
maximized and then you put it in full-screen. Then X server freezes screen
image and becomes totally unresponsive to mouse or keyboard events (or in rare
occasions, it becomes a little crazy). At this point, with Intel graphics
computer, I can jump to a tty and restart kdm service to can use X server
again. But in the ATI graphics computer, going to tty causes a total system
hang, resulting in a dark but flashing screen, Alt + Impr + k does nothing, but
Alt + Impr + b hardly reboots the system.
While X server was frozen, I have take a look at CPU and memory usage with top
command, and I did not see any strange.

Can't you reproduce the bug? Can I give any other valuable debug
information or backtrace?

symptom: on changing users, only sometimes, the HDMI connected screen

2012-12-13 Thread Ben Gamari
Public bug reported:

After using a compiz session consistently for a week or so, opening a
new window intermittently results in a window frame with no contents.
This can be seen in the attached screenshot (the XSane window in the top
left hand corner of the screen). While not all new windows will be shown
as empty, the probability of this occurring certainly increases in time.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993655] Re: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset

2012-12-13 Thread Jevonearth
The workaround in #14 is also working for me. However, whenever I pick
up the device, or press any button on the device, I need to reload the
usbhid module, which is very annoying.

I looked into using udev rules as suggested in #16, but the events seem
to be limited to USB device attachment/detachment. I don't know how to
find the event associated with the events associated with me pressing
buttons on the headset.

The 'udevadm monitor' command does not list any events for button
presses, just for USB attach/detach.

FYI, here's the command I use, as you can see I also unload/reload
hid_logitech_dj, as I can't unload usbhid otherwise.

sudo rmmod hid_logitech_dj && sudo rmmod usbhid && sudo modprobe usbhid
quirks=047f:ab01:0x04 && sudo modprobe hid_logitech_dj

Looking forward to finding a workable solution to this. Sure is nice to
use my headset again, despite having to reset quirks mode every-time I
start/finish a call.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088854] Re: Dell e6420 - monitor frequency issue

2012-12-13 Thread Martin Pichna
Hello,

just wanted to add - I have tried to use the NVIDIA graphical card only
w/ default driver it found (Gallium) - I have an option in DELL BIOS to
disable/enable it. However the symptoms (blinking) persist even on the
different graphical card & driver. So I guess this is related to Xorg
and not to the i915 driver (on my Intel graphics).

I hope that this helps a little bit.

regards, martin

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-13 Thread s.crema
I solved the problem installing Mint 14 Cinnamon instead of Ubuntu, didn't want
to break the hard disk due to the continuos powering off of the frozen PC. With
Mint14 works fine.
Unfortunately when you install Ubuntu you could not choose what to install from
the beginning
if you want Unity or not, and the system freeze also with a live CD of Ubuntu
from 11.04 , 11.10 and 12.04 soon after the splash boot not leaving any
possibility to make a recover action.

Was this an accidental mistake? Or how is it suddenly clear even what
the real cause reason behind all those freezes is?
Can you provide another reference bug number? I would be interested. Thanks.

Best regards, Martin.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 847484] Re: quassel crashed with SIGSEGV in _IO_vfprintf_internal()

2012-12-13 Thread Harald Sitter
New backtrace and Xorg.log please.

Also, "the X server becomes completely crazzy ." define crazy please.
Also, what does it do actually 'go crazy' or 'crash', that is a rather profound
difference.
Also, does memory/cpu usage change drastically when this happens?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 745608]

2012-12-13 Thread Sitsofe Wheeler
It's not fixed in Ubuntu 12.10 (I've just tested):
xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.9-0ubuntu2
linux-image-3.5.0-17

but in a downstream bug ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/745608/comments/155 ) people mention that
using SNA resolves the issue.

Jesse:
What change were you thinking might have fixed this issue?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2012-12-13 Thread mifi
A week ago I installed 12.04LTS 64b on an old desktop with a Pentium D
and 2GB memory than ran 10.04 LTS before.

Since then I have seen a couple of random freezes. No mouse, no
keyboard, no ssh nothing except a total reset.

I have 12.04 running on all sorts of dekstops and notebooks and even a Zotac
AD04. They are all running fine. Except this Dell Dimension 5150.
I had a hard time believing it, since 12.04 was running nicely everywhere else,
so I ran memory check, file system check, but all was fine.

Is there any info I can provide to help analysing this problem?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360724] Re: [RV515] Kubuntu: Corrupted mouse cursor after moving between screens

2012-12-13 Thread Michael Kostrzewa
I confirm the findings of Marteen. My setup is very similar (KDE 5.9.2,
kubuntu 12.04, fglrx, ATI Radeon HD 5000M), and I'm getting identical
results (cursor on secondary monitor is OK, cursor on primary is
corrupted).

My other findings:

- hibernate to RAM -> wakup fixes this same as reboot does

- you can fix this on 1st monitor and move to 2nd monitor by doing the
following:
   1) disable first monitor (I use krandrtray for this), the cursor is now
corrupted on the 2nd monitor
   2) enable 1st monitor again (cursor OK on 1st monitor, broken on 2nd one)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1071288] [NEW] No multiple monitors

2012-12-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Gnome-shell usually doesn't run on multiple monitors, even though it's
configured in SystemSettings -> Displays

"usually" because once in a blue moon it does. So the hardware supports
it.

xrandr lists:
LVDS1 connected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
   1366x768 59.9 +
VGA1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x
268mm
   1920x1080 60.0*+

(other resolutions cut from the output)

gdm starts on both monitors. As soon as I log in, LVDS1 goes off.

I can enable the second monitor in SystemSettings->Displays, and even
click on "keep configuration" but it doesn't activate.

It's disabled in software somewhere. I say that because the message
tray at the bottom is in a different location when both monitors are
active. So there is a software detect-monitor-size that moves the
message tray, and it's almost always where it would be for single
monitors.

Worked fine in Gnome-Shell 3.0.0.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1070113] Re: too slow, and stop system.

2012-12-13 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1029089] [NEW] monitor resolution does not go back to 1440x900 after change

2012-12-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I was testing kernel 3.5.0-6.6:
http://packages.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/223/builds/19371/testcases/1306/results.
I have nouveau drivers installed and I have a Nvidia GeForce 8400 GS graphics
card.
I had 1440x900 resolution when I just booted to the 3.5.0-6.6 kernel.
I tried changing various resolutions and they all worked, but when I tried to
get back to 1440x900 I got a black screen.
Could not do anything.
I had to reboot pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL, not even CTRL+ALT+F1 displayed anything
on my video.
After rebooting into 3.5.0-6.6 kernel I got resolution 1366x768, the last one
chosen, I tried to change to 1440x900 again and I got a black screen again,
couldn't do anything but reboot.
This time I rebooted into 3.2.0-26 kernel and found resolution 1440x900 without
having to change it.
I rebooted again into kernel 3.5.0-6.6 and the resolution was 1440x900.
If I change resolution and try to go back to 1440x900 on kernel 3.5.0-6.6 I
get a black screen and can't do anything.

This is my hardware:

I also have freeze problem on my laptop. When it freezes, I see Chrome is the
last application I interact with.

My detail system:

- Dell XPS 14 Ultrabook 1.7Ghz Core i5
- HDD 500GB, SSD 32GB store ubuntu
- Graphic card 1GB Nvidia 630M

I have the Dell XPS 14 with same configuration but i have the core i7.
Try Linux Mint 14.1 64bit cinnamon it works fine on my system.
The graficcard you can use with bumblebee ;)

I think the freezebug is a kernelproblem with the new generation of
intel cpus.
