[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063656] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit] Unity GUI will hang during bootup with ATI Technologies Radeon X600 (RV380) and VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra chipset

2012-12-16 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
(In reply to Comment #50)

Hi Christopher,

I tried Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit.
Ubuntu will hang right after it resizes the screen.
When booting, Ubuntu logo will be on the center of the screen, but right before
the hang, it will resize the screen, and Ubuntu logo will still be there
without the flashing dots.
Keyboard and mouse still work so it is not a freeze, but this symptom is fairly
similar to what I have been reporting.
The difference is that there is no wallpaper on the screen (The background is
blank.).
I suspect this bug to be related to the GUI change (GNOME to Unity) that
happened in Ubuntu 11.04.

Regards,

fpgahardwareenegineer

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 727112] Re: nvidia-current does not detect hardware capabilities correctly

2012-12-16 Thread Daniel Knittl-Frank
I finally took the time to upgrade my Ubuntu install to the recent
release 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal). This bug still occurs, and now seems
worse then ever. I have skipped (i.e. not tested) the releases 11.10 and
12.04, but I assume those two releases didn't bring any improvement
either.

In the past, I've set my builtin monitor (laptop) to a smaller
resolution (1680x1050). That way I could run the external monitor at
full resolution (1920x1080 full HD) even with nvidia-current driver.
Remember: both screens worked fine with full resolution with nvidia-173
(slower) as well as with nouveau (even more slow).

Under Quantal, nouveau cannot handle both screens at full resolution and
neither can any of the provided nvidia proprietary drivers. I tested all
available options: -current, -current-updates, -experimental-304, and
-experimental-310.
I think nouveau managed to run both screens in "mirror"/clone mode, but not
sure about the exact resolutions was using.

What's worse, I cannot set my laptop monitor to the smaller resolution like I
did in the past, since only "Off", "Auto", and "1920x1200" are shown in
nvidia-settings as well as in 'Display' system settings (that's using randr,
right?).
Both monitors run, when I set my external monitor to a smaller resolution
(currently 1680x1050), but that's not the native resolution and not the correct
aspect ratio (16:10 vs 16:9).

And if that was not bad enough, Xorg cannot even start when the external
monitor is plugged in. The screen will blink several times and then dump
to a black screen with a blinking white cursor. Switching to a VT,
unplugging the monitor and starting X (service lightdm start) will
finally bring Xorg back up. This is really annoying! (Please imagine a
turned on caps lock, to get an idea of my frustration).

The external monitor is connected with a VGA cable if that matters. I
cannot use DVI, because my laptop only offers VGA out.

Relevant details from Xorg.0.log after unsuccessfully trying to start X
during boot:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1090967] [NEW] NVIDIA drivers not detect videocard after installing

2012-12-16 Thread Kirill Kuznecov
Public bug reported:

After installing proprietary driver ['nvidia-current' / 'nvidia-current-
updates'] via 'software-properties-gtk' and rebooting, driver not detect
the videocard [NVIDIA GeForce 210]. Also I have very low resolution and
"empty" nvidia-settings.

Ubuntu 12.10 amd64
nvidia-current-updates 304.51-0ubuntu1

Solution:
1. Install 'linux-source' package;
2. Install 'linux-headers-generic' package;
3. Remove 'nvidia-current' or 'nvidia-current-updates' package;
4. Reinstall 'nvidia-current' or 'nvidia-current-updates' package;
5. Reboot.

So problem is what linux-source and linux-headers-generic not installing
by default when nvidia proprietary driver activating. So may be bug in
nvidia driver packages or software-properties-gtk?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2012-12-16 Thread Gareth Fare
I had this problem today, If I start Google Chrome or Chromium it logs
me out of X.

uname -a gives

Linux garethf-System-Product-Name 3.5.0-19-generic #30-Ubuntu SMP Tue
Nov 13 17:48:01 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

and I'm using propriety NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-310.19

The Xorg.0.log showed a NULL deref in /usr/bin/Xorg. I can only guess
that some of the kernel headers must have updated yesterday as it was
working fine, but not enough for the nVidia driver not to work. I fixed
it by rebuilding the propriety nVidia drivers. All seems to be working
fine now, might be related to this so posting just in case it helps
anyone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1091058] [NEW] GPU locks up and the screen turns white - it is impossible then to recovery (have to cold reboot!!!)

2012-12-16 Thread Roland (Rolandixor) Taylor
Public bug reported:

At random, if I'm using ANY 3D program or game (except, strangely,
window managers, including compiz, gala, mutter, etc)... the GPU will
lockup, the screen redraws with a bunch of lines at the bottom, and then
it begins to turn white. I wish I could give more information but each
time it happens the system locks up completely and I have to force it to
restart (which is NOT good). This problem was happening on Ubuntu 12.10
and persists into 13.04.

sorry for the late reply, I was on a trip.

Since it only happened once and on some rc kernels I leave it for now,
but a screenshot is not necessary, it was simply monocolor blue ...
nothing else ;-)

Another thing: I have now tried to hit the bug with SNA for a long time,
without *any* success. As soon as I switched back to IXA the bug was
triggered within short time.

Does this help you?

As a null data-point, yes. My interpretation is then back towards a
relocation/mm issue. (There is an outside chance that some of the
surface alignment tweaks help, for which getting the SURFACE_STATE would
have been useful...)

Norbert, a quick scan of the bug report doesn't yield any information as
to whether you tested the mb() theory. Can you please try:

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~ickle/linux-2.6 #master

Just compile the master branch (at 3.7-rc4).

2012-12-16 Thread Chris Wilson

Keep reserved objects pinned until after reloction processing.

An idea at last: earlier objects are moved in order to perform the
relocations. This should be impossible as we try to detect when we are
going to require GTT access for relocation processing and reserve it in
the right spot. However, the code change is minor and it should be easy
enough to test...

Comment 74 and 75 seem to indicate that I tried at least a subset.
Do you want me to try it with the full branch?

rc6 is disabled on Ironlake precisely because it is causing the lockup
you are encountering. We already know that we are missing workarounds
for enabling rc6 on Ironlake.
