[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041063] Re: mouse pointer periodically leaps to left and top of screen with absolute pointing devices

2012-12-19 Thread Bryce Harrington
a7x, the patch was uploaded for precise prior to comment #25, because
it had been nominated for precise. Keep in mind that precise includes a
backport of the input stack, so it's not surprising to find input bugs
introduced after 1.11 affecting precise, however that stack is 1.12 so a
1.13-specific bug should not affect it.

In any case, aside from the nomination there doesn't appear to be anyone
making a claim that the bug is reproducible on precise. I'll go ahead
and reject your patch for 12.04.

are using gdm or lightdm for your logon screen?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072531]

2012-12-19 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Thanks Alan. To my knowledge, Ubuntu actually has _never_ had a UI to
control this--screen blanking has always been disabled before. The UI
only allows the user to configure the time period for powering off the
display. Now it seems that screen blanking is mysteriously enabled on
some machines in 12.10.

Other than with xorg.conf or xset, how might the distro be disabling
this? I wasn't able to find any override anywhere. I am guessing that
the override is not working in some corner case.

Nigh-on impossible unless you have the entire build environment for your
target as well (-intel will depend upon the X server ABI as defined in
the headers, which of course vary over time).

Don't worry the fix is just to switch to SNA, which will happen soon
enough.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 914631] Re: [mir] mesa-demos

2012-12-19 Thread Michael Terry
Seems fine to me, especially since it used to be in main. As for the
naming of the package, it's following Debian, so that's fine.

Maintainership doesn't seem *super* great (not often updated in Debian
or Ubuntu), but I guess there's not a lot of activity here anyway.
Several crasher bugs, but they seem mostly driver related than anything.

It would be nice if we could sync up with Debian, but it's not too
important. Only changes are some package metadata stuff. We do have a
rather large delta with Debian in the form of the -extras package. But
if this is going into main, it's a delta we'd gladly suffer (rather than
moving everything into the one package).

Archive Admins: please only promote mesa-utils, *not* mesa-utils-extra.
Thanks!

> Is this still an issue with kms or a newer version of the driver?

I still experience hard systen freezes with latest drivers. Only workaround
is to disable AGP completely (radeon.agpmode=-1). Starting KDE4 with OpenGL
compositing enabled freezes the system every time; with firefox it takes a
while. This started happening with xf86-video-ati git releases around
mid-april 2008, with and without KMS. (Mobility 9700, intel 855PM).

2012-12-19 Thread In4mer+freedesktopbugzilla
I can confirm that this has been happening on Ubuntu 12.04 as of

This usually occurs using compiz when the monitors go into ACPI power

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1092229] [NEW] Desktop brightness minimal after upgrade 12.04 -> 12.10 on Acer Aspire One D270

2012-12-19 Thread Răzvan Sandu
Public bug reported:

Hello,

On Acer Aspire One D270 netbook (please see full hardware configuration
here http://h-node.org/notebooks/view/en/536/Aspire-One-D270--
ZE7-/1/1/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/undef/D270), desktop
brightness is reduced to minimum after upgrading from 12.04 to 12.10.

Netbook's video card is this: http://h-node.org/videocards/view/en/538
/Intel-Corporation-Cedarview-Integrated-Graphics-Controller--rev-09-

The function keys for brightness (Fn + horizontal arrows) APPARENTLY
work: they DO present a brightness slider when pressed, but brightness
is not decreased/increased when sliding left-right.

The upgrade was done in an automatic way (via GUI update manager, who
offers a new version of Ubuntu).

After some Google searches, the fix presented here, comment no. 9
(adding some parameters to the kernel line while booting) applied,
solving the problem: http://askubuntu.com/questions/3841/desktop-doesnt-
remember-brightness-settings-after-a-reboot

This seems to be an old bug, still unsolved.

However, the correct video configuration should be automagically
detected at boot, WITHOUT manual user intervention and hacking (this may
be a serious stop for non-technical users buying an Ubuntu netbook from
consumer stores, especially since Acer is pretty popular).

Best regards,
Răzvan

This suggestion was reported to launchpad bug tracker for synaptics touchpad by

Syndaemon is a powerful and wonderful tool that allows you to, among many other
things, prevent accidental clicking when you're trying to type.

But no matter how many times we solve the "synaptics device not found"
bug for synaptics devices, new, old, or just plain odd devices are gonna
get left out in the cold. So I recommend that syndaemon be made capable
of working with unclassified "mice" that show up as "ImPS/2 Generic
Wheel Mouse," by spitting out a warning that it's going to use a device
that doesn't look like a synaptics device, give the name, and then give
the user a Y/N option whether to continue.

This would make syndaemon a lot more useful to people who are still
waiting for bugfixes on their touchpads, or even people with regular
mice in some scenarios (I'm thinking, really persistantly bothersome
cats). It would certainly make my life a lot more livable, since I have
a very sensitive and obnoxiously placed touchpad that ends up
registering clicks all the time when I'm trying to type.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 539163]

2012-12-19 Thread Stefan Nagy
I can reproduce this bug with this graphics card (with compiz & KMS):
ATI Technologies Inc Radeon RV250 [Mobility FireGL 9000] [1002:4c66] (rev 01)

When I switch workspaces, rotate the cube or use Expo to view all
workspaces the whole screen gets very dark – but the colours won't
change (as described above).

I can confirm this bug for
· Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick): kernel 2.6.35-30-generic; xserver-xorg-video-ati
1:6.13.1-1ubuntu5; mesa 7.9~git20100924-0ubuntu2
· Debian Testing (wheezy): kernel 3.0.0-1-486 (3.0.0-3); xserver-xorg-video-ati

I've the same bug, i suppose, but with an rv200 chip (Radeon Mobility 7500).
The lighting "colour" is random. Often is light blue or light red.

I'm using KDE 4.6.4 (with desktop effects enabled) on gentoo with xf86
-video-ati 6.14.2, mesa 7.10.2 and kernel linux 2.6.38-gentoo-r6 with
KMS enabled.

Let me now if you need more information.

The bottom line is you will need xf86-video-intel (xserver-xorg-video-

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1063656] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit] Unity GUI will hang during bootup with ATI Technologies Radeon X600 (RV380) and VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra chipset

2012-12-19 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
(In reply to Comment #52)

Hi Christopher,

I attached log files that I think are relevant.
Regarding kern.org, Dec 19 00:08:07 boot is a regular boot, and Dec 19 00:10:56
boot is a recovery mode boot.
Note that regular boot results in a hang, but recovery mode boot is fine.

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer
