[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. "NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus."

2013-01-03 Thread Luis Alvarado
No overheating on my part. I have tested the 560 ti with the HDMI cable,
with a DVI cable and with a DVI-VGA. All cases have same problem.

I have even tried using different versions, starting from the originals
that come with 12.10 to the ones in X-Swat, to the ones in Xorg Edgers.
Basically from 304.xx to 313.xx. In all cases I used 64 bit. I even
tested 13.04.

My hardware specs are:

Intel Core i7 2600
16 GB RAM
 Intel DZ68DB Motherboard
Intel 128GB SSD
Nvidia 560 TI

This was working fine until 2 weeks ago. Then this precise problem
appeared out of nowhere. I tested all drivers version in 12.10 and 13.04
that came with it or were in Swat or Edgers PPA. The only one that is
working is nouveau but that is just throwing the towel since the
solution should be to actually use the video performance.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1015297] Re: Screen partially darkened after suspend and resume in Xubuntu

2013-01-03 Thread AG Restringere
Just added Xscreensaver to the list of "possible candidates" as per
comment #22. Seems interesting because XFCE does indeed use Xscreensaver
and possibly the bugs on the duplicates list for older Ubuntu versions
prior to 12.04 are due to Xscreensaver being used by default on Ubuntu
systems then. This would also possibly explain why the bug affects so
many different video drivers and card types.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-01-03 Thread Nick Andrik
For quantal systems you will need both the intel and the fglrx packages from my
quantal PPA.

For raring systems you will need the above intel package and another fglrx
package (linux headers changed) already in my raring PPA, but untested (since I
don't have raring):
https://launchpad.net/~andrikos/+archive/ppa/+sourcepub/2899856/+listing-archive-extra

If someone has a raring system and is willing to try the fglrx-amdcccle-
updates_9.010.11-0ubuntu1~andrik*.deb package, please let me know.

Thanks

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1094097] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in mieqMoveToNewScreen()

2013-01-03 Thread Bryce Harrington
The crash is occurring in code that handles keyboard and mouse input
when the screen is being woken up.

For those trying to find out how to reproduce the bug, it must be some
combination of keyboard or mouse button input while waking the screen or
vt switching.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2013-01-03 Thread Gareth Clay
Reinhard, thanks for your excellent workaround - this seems far less
intrusive than downgrading libs.

In case it helps anyone else, after a bit of searching I found the file
to change to add the nxagent command line arg to a plain NoMachine NX
install.

The file is /usr/NX/etc/node.cfg. The property to modify is
AgentExtraOptions.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011828] Re: Session failed to load with 12.10 kernel on 12.04 test

2013-01-03 Thread Carla Sella
Hello Colin,
I have tested the "Nvidia-current 304.51.really.304.43- amd64" driver on Ubuntu
Quantal and up to kernel 3.5.0.19 they did not work, they started working on
kernel 3.5.0.21 and 3.5.0.22.
I will now test them on Ubuntu Precise and let you know, I just have to
re-install Precise to try them out.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 41301] Re: Mouse clicks stop working sporadically

2013-01-03 Thread Isaac Ullah
This is still happening for me, even now in 12.04.1. I've tried EVERY
workaround suggest above (and some more fooling with xorg.conf.d stuff)
to no avail. Restarting x-server is the only thing that works even
temporarily (lasts an indefinite amount of time, then bug resurfaces).
Is there really no advance on this OLD and VERY ANNOYING bug? It's a
pretty serious issue.

If it helps, this bug is DEFINATELY something to do with the touchpad
drivers (I imagine synaptic, as I've got that installed). If touch pad
is disabled and an external mouse is used, then after x restart, the
external mouse functions fine. It is only when the touchpad is enabled
that this bug returns...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in Hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-01-03 Thread Mike
This affects me on an HP Envy 14 (intel + AMD 5650).

After installing fglrx I wasn't able to access my desktop. I purged
fglrx and tried Andrikos' PPA, which didn't help. After purging
everything, I was able to get LightDM up only after switching to the AMD
card via vgaswitcheroo. But then logging into my account dumped me back
to lightdm again. The only thing that worked was launching a Guest
desktop instance.

No amount of purging and downgrading could salvage my system, I had to
re-install 12.10. I never installed fglrx on 12.04 so I can't say
whether this is a downgrade. But the opensource radeon drivers on 12.10
seems like a downgrade because HDMI switching doesn't work for me.

I'll make another partition to do more testing, so if anyone wants to
see any console output/logs, let me know.

impossible to use the computer anymore, and a "normal" user does not
know how to boot on a different kernel.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080588] Re: jockey suggests not installable packages on renamed stack

2013-01-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
The old fglrx-installer-updates version doesn't support the new xserver
abi, so the new stack needs at least 9.000. Because of that there's
little point in uploading the old version with this change.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1095686] [NEW] xorg needs to be updated to allow quantal xserver stack to be installed

2013-01-03 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Public bug reported:

Right now installing xserver-xorg-lts-quantal will uninstall xorg, and
as a side effect ubuntu-desktop. A small update to xorg is required to
deal with this.

Multiple changes are required:
- xorg needs to allow xserver-xorg-renamed to satisfy its xserver-xorg
dependency.
- xserver-xorg must not be coinstallable with renamed packages, so explicitly
depend on versions there.
- xserver-xorg-lts-precise gets added for smoother rollback, it recommends
libgl1-mesa-dri/glx unrenamed, and video/input-all unrenamed. Normally because
of the xserver-xorg might not install either, but the recommends should allow
easier rollback.
- xserver-xorg also provides/replaces/conflicts with xserver-xorg-renamed, so
xserver-xorg-lts-* cannot be coinstalled accidentally with xserver-xorg.
- xserver-xorg replaces/conflicts with xorg-renamed-package, so installing
xserver-xorg will block any renamed package from being installed. They all
provide xorg-renamed-package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1011828] Re: Session failed to load with 12.10 kernel on 12.04 test

2013-01-03 Thread Colin Watson
Hello Carla, or anyone else affected,

Accepted nvidia-graphics-drivers into precise-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/nvidia-graphics-drivers/295.40-0ubuntu1.2 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085166] Re: Screen stays black after grub. Suspend activates it.

2013-01-03 Thread peterrus
Please note mainline kernels do not contain ubuntu-specific patches and
might thus not provide a true testing ground as it introduces an aditional
variable.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085168] Re: 16 Bit colours / Banding on Intel HD4000

2013-01-03 Thread Märt Suga
Tried with linux-image-3.7.1-030701-generic from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ and problem still exists.
Also tried old linux-image-3.4.24-030424-generic from the same source but still
no luck.
Waking up from suspend always fixes the issue until next reboot.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 652731] Re: Appearance settings do not work in Xubuntu 10.10 RC

2013-01-03 Thread lyngeled
Hi,
I have the same problem now. That is no settings in "xfce4-appearance-settings"
have any effect. I also have the Nvidia restricted driver, and maybe the
problem started after I had made some changes in nvidia-settings. I had before
that made changes to the appearences settings, and after a new boot my dual
screens were overlapping then I had to correct it in nvidia-settings. I
usually use Ubuntu but I also is testing Xubuntu on the same machine.

Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04

1) Run the attached example (xcb application);
2) Press "Space" button to grab the keyboard;

Expected:

Window is still movable around, since xcb_grab_keyboard sets pointer
handling to XCB_GRAB_MODE_ASYNC (x11 spec says "If pointer_mode is
XCB_GRAB_MODE_ASYNC , pointer event processing is unaffected by
activation of the grab. ")

Actual:

Window is stuck.

** Affects: libxcb (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072403] Re: Unity and GnomeShell hang or crash with nouveau kernel error messages "fail ttm_validate", "validate vram_list" and "validate: -12"

2013-01-03 Thread keestux
I'm seeing the same messages since I upgraded to quantal yesterday
(upgraded from precise). However there are a few differences in my setup
compared to Perseid (the initiator of this bug). So, I'm hesitating to
mark it as a "me2".

Major differences are:
 * my own kernel based on 3.7.1 (which I had before with precise)
 * Chipset: G73 (NV4B), Family : NV40

If you would force me to draw a conclusion, I'd say it is the xserver-
xorg-video-nouveau driver that triggers the bug. And it might be a bug
in the nouveau kernel driver that wasn't discovered before.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1088963] Re: Black screen when booting with proprietary nvidia drivers on MacBook 7, 1 13" in EFI mode

2013-01-03 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

"try the current mainline kernel"

No. Didn't help. My situation is exactly the one described in #625. I'm
on Linuxmint 14 KDE, with the mainline Kernel 3.8.0-999. I've had two
freezes in the last two days, the last one two minutes ago. I've tried
everything that's ever been suggested. Nothing helps. It's been going on
for months...

(I've been on Linux for the last 12 years or so, but this bug actually
has me thinking abour switching to something else. But to what? Windows
is an ocean of pain. OSX is ridiculous. Should I just give up on
computing? But it's my living!)

I don't think so. Bug 921321 is a specific bug against the Nouveau
driver, and there is no evidence of it being XFCE specific. This
bug seems XFCE specific and happens with both the proprietary NVidia
and FGLRX drivers (and possibly others).
