[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1094451] Re: ETPS/2 Elantech Touchpad right-click does not work on Samsung NP900X4C, 12.04

2013-01-08 Thread Cameron Smith
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected precise referred-by-support running-
unity ubuntu

** Description changed:

I have two identical spec NP900X4C laptops. On one I installed 12.10,
  on the other 12.04.

On 12.10 the touchpad works fine, including right-click.

On 12.04 the touchpad works fine, EXCEPT for right-click. The standard
settings options do not correct this problem.

I tried following the Enabling right button click instructions at
  https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection however the enable-
rightbutton.sh script bailed out claiming the right-click area was not
defined. The issue is also simpler than the mixture of problems
  reported at https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/933707

I therefore used xinput list-props on both devices to compare the
settings for the touchpad. I discovered that on 12.04 "Synaptics Soft
Button Areas" is set to all 0s, whereas on 12.10 it has specific
  settings.

I therefore applied the following command and the right-button immediately
worked fine. I opened this bug so that the correct setting for this model of
touchpad can be included in the standard 12.04 package.
   xinput set-prop 1630, 0, 1871, 0, 0, 0, 0,0

I should point out that in writing "untest" I discovered the crash only
happens when you're running fullscreen OpenGL apps. Fullscreen regular
windows won't trigger it.

Bryce,

I wrote a stress tester that will successfully crash the intel driver on
precise (at least within minutes). It's in the compiz source at
tests/system/untest/ and is built with the source but never packaged. Just
build lp:compiz and then run:
/tests/system/untest/untest

I will email you a binary for convenience if you like.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097536] [NEW] Black Screen After Suspend + Lock Screen

2013-01-08 Thread Dac Chartrand
Public bug reported:

I was subscribed to Bug #966744 for many weeks. It was marked as
resolved and the problem went away for many weeks. Recently, I feel
there has been some sort of regression? I'm not sure but the symptoms
are pretty much the same. This has happened to me a few times in the
last few days. I cannot reproduce consistently.

I'm using Ubntu 12.10

1) My laptop wakes up from suspend.
2) I am presented with my lock screen (Enter your password)
3) I type in my password and press Enter.

Expected: Desktop
Actual: Black Screen

-=-=-

Horrible workaround:

Press Ctrl+Alt+F2 (or F3, F4, F5, F6 :: F7 is the Desktop)
$ sudo stop lightdm
$ sudo start lightdm

I can reprodue this issue on 12.04. even compiz is slow in some

on 12.10 i can not reproduce this issue. On that release the performance
is fine related to the vga.

Hi,

I have hp4530s laptop with dual graphics Intel 3000 / AMD Radeon™ HD 6490M. I
followed the steps from Michael's link, it did not worked. I re-installed 12.04
then, upgraded to fresh 12.10 and followed the steps one more time.
Unfortunately, it still does not work. All I got is no unity and errors in
fglrxinfo.
So I rolled it back and installed 12.04 and fglrx, finally laptop stopped
thinking it is a helicopter =)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085168] Re: 16 Bit colours / Banding on Intel HD4000

Workaround:

enable the xorg-edgers repository (sudo apt-add-repository ppa:xorg-
edgers/ppa; sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -y)

Which gives you, at the time of writing kernel 3.7.0-7, which does not
suffer the issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1002788] Re: Using the touchscreen breaks normal device left clicking

2013-01-08 Thread debb1046
I rebuilt xserver-xorg-core and xserver-common with the patch from
comment #19. It does help insofar as my touchscreen stays usable after
double-tapping something in nautilus in icon view. This machine (exo-pc)
does not have a touch pad so I can't test that. Bluetooth mouse works
fine. However, double tapping the touchscreen still does not trigger any
actions (open folder, open file etc.) in icon view
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-nexus7/+bug/1071922). It only works
as expected in list view.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097315] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2013-01-08 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

After upgrade to raring and reboot, I'm seeing frequent Freezes in
normal usage of X. The mouse cursor moves but cannot interact with
windows.

ctrl-alt-f1 will work, and I can login there.
Running 'sudo restart lightdm' from the console ends up with multiple X
processes running, and screen goes blank, and I can no longer use the console
at all (although ssh access is still available).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 980519] Re: Random log off in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

2013-01-08 Thread Javier Schwersensky
Thank you to those who filed the bug report and those who worked on a
solution. My NVIDIA driver was stable until I made a change in the xorg
file (to use two screens). Then the random logouts began with certain
applications only (Skype and VirtualBox most notably). The solution
proposed here seem to have fixed the issue. I am running 12.04 LTS
64-bit, ASUS laptop with NVIDIA video card, cinnamon desktop.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1078290] Re: Add package fglrx-experimental for tracking fglrx beta drivers

2013-01-08 Thread Florian W.
AFAICT, this *-experimental package was uploaded to precise-proposed,
but not to quantal-proposed.

I'd like to be able to use this driver on quantal without manually
installing it from AMD's web page. The bug description for this bug also
states that the package was meant to be available for quantal and
precise.

So as a quantal user, I'd vote for "verification-failed" unless the
package shows up in quantal-proposed as well. :-)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1095106] Re: Random display corruption in gnome-shell widgets

2013-01-08 Thread Torsten Schoenfeld
Before filing the bug upstream, I wanted to ensure that I see the
corruption also with all addons disabled. But I don't: after I had
disable all addons, I didn't see any corruption for two weeks. Then I
reenabled one of the many versions of the weather extension and the
corruption reappeared on next login.

So I'm currently suspecting that this extension is the culprit.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-08 Thread Nikolay Pohodnya
I have T430s laptop for couple month with intel graphics and was trying
to cure freezes right from the first ubuntu install. Solution was weird,
but the following helped me: I've gone to BIOS and disabled "CPU Power
Management". On kernel 3.7.1 freezes disappeared for me only after this.
However, power consumption is good and CPU frequencies are changed
according to load.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097230] [NEW] ubuntu desktop, graphic speed, and ubuntu software center

2013-01-08 Thread Daniel
Public bug reported:

My mother board is ausuS m4a88td-m/usb3
Operating system: Ubuntu 12.10

These are the symptoms:

** Ubuntu Software Center crashes.
** Synaptic Crashes.
** Terminal Crashes.
** Report bug crashes.
** Software sources Crashes.
** AND gnome shell and unity are useless.

After the kernel were upgraded the desktop has white color in some corners and
many of the applications crash every 2 seconds after I started them.
I open ubuntu software center, and after two seconds ubuntu software center
crashes
I luckily i opened Software Sources and it crashes after a few seconds,
then when i tried to use terminal ans it just closes or stops for no reason,
and in some moments i can finish an update with this command:

sudo apt-get update.

Ubuntu Software Center.,Synaptic ,Terminal,Report bug and Software
sources are crashing over and over, and when i restart pc, always
appears a bug report message and it suddenly closes, The bug report does
not specifies what the bug is about.

I upgraded the kernel 3.5.and_some_numbers To Kernel 3.7.0-7-generic
using this commands:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get update

Now i cannot use gnome shell and Unity desktop as normally would do, in the
past kernel 3.5.and_some_numbers i could finally recover the resolution in the
screen after i followed this guidance:

http://usemoslinux.blogspot.com/2012/10/que-hacer-despues-de-instalar-
ubuntu.html

(THANKS BY THE WAY, YOU WERE SO HELPFUL BACK THEN)

and used these commands on terminal.

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:makson96/fglrx
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install fglrx-legacy

Now I can't have Gnome-shell and Unity desktops with their transparencies and
cool smooth effects working as it suppose to do.

Can you guys can guide me to a perfect configuration of ubuntu 12.10
I'd be most appreciated for your help.

Regards.

Okay, sorry, but the mysterious application behaviour was due to a
broken harddisk.

And since I decided to stop using Google Earth and Second Life we can
close the bug report as "resolved".

** Summary changed:

- mysterious application behaviour for the intel "sandy bridge" hardware
+ RESOLVED: mysterious application behaviour for the intel "sandy bridge"
hardware

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1043513] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in memcpy() via cirRefreshArea() under KVM virtual machine

2013-01-08 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
should be fixed in xf86-video-cirrus 1.5.2 then. I just pushed this
upstream, and will do a release to raring shortly.

2013-01-08 Thread Gérald Gurtner
@Daniel: I had the problem with a desktop too (#523). The problem was
solved with me by installing the proprietary driver for the nvidia
graphic card. Of course it's not a general answer to the problem but it
might help some of you.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade

2013-01-08 Thread Ped
I did check the BIOS, the ATI radeon was enabled, now with "Intel only"
setting the GLX/OGL still works, so something got fixed on my Kubuntu
installation while I was trying out different PPAs for drivers.

That said, I would still like to have radeon 3D working (like it was in
12.04). :)
