[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097401] Re: terminal, synaptic, ubuntu sofware center, crash for no reason

2013-01-09 Thread Robert Roth
Thank you for taking the time to improve Ubuntu by reporting this bug.
Synaptic and Software-center crashing could be related, as they both use the
same package indexes and same library, however I see no relation to Gnome
Terminal. In most cases, separate application crashes should be reported in
separate bugs, as tracking more application problems in the same bug is quite
hard.
Could you please run the following commands to report a separate bug for these
applications:
ubuntu-bug gnome-terminal
ubuntu-bug software-center
ubuntu-bug synaptic
This will help us as by reporting the bugs separately for the apps with
ubuntu-bug relevant information for the given application will be attached,
like version number, maybe last error logs, and if not, package maintainers
will request the relevant information from you, the reporter to help them fix
the issue in their package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 985202] Re: libx11 causes kwin to crash on login (over NX protocol)

2013-01-09 Thread HansHook
Unfortunately I had no success with free NX using Reinhards suggestions.
I tried to add "-extension XFIXES" to nxloadconfig like this:
AGENT_EXTRA_OPTIONS_X="-extension XFIXES -nolisten tcp -dpi 96"

(Ubuntu 2d works though... i.e. only KDE crashes.)

Did you really verify that the nxagent process gets this option passed?

Please paste the full command line of the actual running nxagent
instance as found in /proc/$PIDOFAGENT/cmdline

Btw, the latest release of x2goagent disables both GLX and XFIXES by
default because of this issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068341] Re: No way to specify correct dependencies for dkms packages (nvidia driver install fails to get matching header)

2013-01-09 Thread Michael Stephenson
I can't believe Canonical is going to allow this bug to ship on the latest
Ubuntu release available when steam goes live.
I know you have a problem anticipating how your actions will be percieved in
the blogosphere, and are regularly caught with your foot in your mouths, but
let me give you a prediciton:

This bug is going to make Ubuntu a laughing stock.

Hundreds perhaps thousands of brand new users will install Ubuntu for
the first time to try steam out when the Valve announce Steam. And their
first experience will be :

"OK guys,

Switch to a terminal (Ctrl-Alt-F1).

Login as your username.

Install linux source (sudo apt-get install linux-source) and headers
(sudo apt-get install linux-headers-3.5.0-17-generic)."

You do have a P.R. department, don't you?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097685] [NEW] libwayland and weston package versions in raring are incompatable

2013-01-09 Thread Darxus
Public bug reported:

libwayland is at v1.0.2: http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/libwayland0
weston is at v0.95: http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/weston

These won't work together. I believe the last API break was at v0.99.
(I have not actually tested this myself, but got verification that this
isn't expected to work.)

I'm thinking this should not get the automatic wishlist priority of a
normal request to package a new upstream release, since what is
currently in the archives isn't usable?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 592447] Re: X shows noise on screen (SiS 661/741- pci id 1039:6330 rev 03)

2013-01-09 Thread Harshad
A simple workaround for this card is to lower the color depth to 16 as
suggested in the xorg.0.log. This can be done by adding the following
section to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Screen"
  DefaultDepth 16
  Identifier "Default Screen"
EndSection

Tested this with resolutions upto 1920x1080 it works fine, the reduced
color depth is not noticeable on most LCD panels.

I can verify this.
x2go is now providing me with a working KDE remote desktop!

This is indeed very promising!

Then you might actually be experiencing a different bug. Not sure about
that though.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097732] [NEW] Green screen with color depth of 16 bits

2013-01-09 Thread Juha Erkkilä
Public bug reported:

I have run into a problem with the openchrome driver, when used with
color depth of 16 bits. With the default depth of 24 bits everything
works ok, but with color depth of 16 bits the screen is mostly green.

The driver seems to be otherwise useable. It is possible to correct the
color problem somewhat with xgamma, but this does not really help the
broken appearance. However, the hardware cursor appears to have the
right colour.

I have tried various Xorg settings relating to EXA and such, but can not
find a combination that would make a change for the better. Switching to
a software cursor changes cursor color to a greener tint.

My main motivation to get this to work is that there are some thin
client hardware that should be very much useable with LTSP, and there is
a remarkable speed difference when colour depths of 16 and 24 are used
(16 being of course faster).

Here is the lspci output for one machine in question:

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097060] Re: Continues the system crash.

2013-01-09 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1077616] Re: 10de:0ca3 (EE) [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed

2013-01-09 Thread itsjustarumour
@Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - apologies for the delay in
replying. I can confirm that I'm still seeing this bug, and I've
experienced it with all three of the NVidia drivers that you refer to.
Unfortunately I can't say of its a problem or not with the Nouveau
driver, as Nouveau doesn't work well with my graphics card (GT240) -
with Nouveau my system usually freezes within a couple of minutes of
logging in due to a completely separate problem, so it may be that with
Nouveau there just isn't enough time for this bug to manifest itself...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882341] Re: Driver grafico amd

2013-01-09 Thread madbiologist
Sì, si può vedere dalle informazioni hardware che si dispone di un
processore Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics
Controller e una ATI Technologies Inc Manhattan [Mobility Radeon HD 5400
Series] controller grafico.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. "NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus."

2013-01-09 Thread gmhawash
I have had this issue as well, with Linux Mint 14, Ubuntu 12.10 and every
flavor I tried. It is definitely heat related but still a problem with the
driver. The fan on my Nvidia GTX 590 had been high the last few weeks and I've
had issues with hard drives lately; so when I reinstalled, I started seeing the
problem; I finally took the NVIDIA card out, and vaccumed the junk out of it.
Now the fan is not on, thankfully, and the system does not crash.

However, the fact that this crash started with a reinstall, tells me
that the latest drivers are buggy. The system was working fine before
even when the fan was on, and the GPU was getting hot. The install of
new system and drivers expose this problem, and heat caused the system
(Nvidia driver) to fail.

Hope that helps,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-09 Thread Daniel
After following #620 i'm OK for two days now with no freezes but i face some
other problems and crashes. I think many different problems are leading to same
end and that is why for some of you one could solve but for other not. Main
ways i see here that solved this for some people are 3.
First try to disable computer power managment as discribed in #648.
Second is upgrading kernel and if you don't know haw you could read #620.
Third is for those that really have video card problems and they should look
for drivers, installing the latest driver doesn't means it is the most stable.
Those 3 should cover most of the cases.

Ah, that's handy.

Fwiw, just building lp:compiz did not compile the test, but I was able
to manually make it successfully. I ran it to completion several times
(runs took a few minutes and were very flashy and colorful, with "Pop
Up" printed now and then.) Output was always:

Unredirect Fullscreen Windows Stress Tester
Copyright (c) 2012 Canonical Ltd.

GL Vendor: Intel Open Source Technology Center
GL Renderer: Mesa DRI Mobile Intel® GM45 Express Chipset
GL Version: 2.1 Mesa 9.0

Congratulations! Nothing crashed.

I've run several different apps full screen, including openarena, and switched
between them, with and without the test running. Compiz seemed to have some
trouble rendering everything properly, but there were no compiz or X crashes.

2013-01-09 Thread Bryce Harrington
I don't doubt there are some X crashes hiding here amongst this
functionality, however I am not able to reproduce any crashes on my
hardware.

Possibly the changes for kernel/X/etc. that have gone in since this was
originally reported have fixed whatever was crashing, or perhaps there
is something hardware-specific to the crash you saw. I'm going to
optimistically assume the former, but you may want to doublecheck if
it's the latter; if you do please collect a full backtrace from X (see
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions - I would recommend
the gdb approach rather than using apport in this case), reopen this bug
(or file a new one), and get my attention on it.

The stacktrace indicates a crash in libdrm code; libdrm is really just
an interface layer on top of the kernel, so it's certainly plausible
that the "real" bug was in the kernel and was fixed with a newer kernel.

And which variant of Ubuntu are you using?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097960] [NEW] Elantech clickpad tap fluctuations on Asus UX31A

2013-01-09 Thread vckbarth
Public bug reported:

Very often clickpad use to not detect taps (then I have to tap several times to
make things done). Another time clickpad thinks somehow that single tap was
already done (without any actions/touching on the device) and when I'm trying
to move cursor (with single tap), device treats this like double tap (then I'm
grabbing the icon
witch I don't want to grab or marking text witch I don't want to mark).

This issue can be reduced by setting "Synaptics Tap FastTap" to 1. But the bug
still exists.

This was tested on kernel versions: 3.5.0-18 and 3.7.x. Ubuntu 12.10.
Asus UX31A.

I've attached file witch contains print from the "xinput --list-props 12"
command.
I've recently added this bug to kernel bugzilla because I don't know is this
xorg-synaptics issue or elantech driver issue
(https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52551).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1041790] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001

2013-01-09 Thread Rocko
I've seen it happen with kernel 3.8-rc2 and SNA using the latest intel
driver from git.

The hang isn't always the same:

* Sometimes it locks the computer up completely, requiring a hard
reboot.

* Sometimes it locks X, but CTRL-ALT-F1 and back unlocks it.

* Sometimes it resolves itself without me even noticing that it has
happened, other than that there may be some corruption in the tabs'
title text in chrome and window movement has become somewhat jerky
instead of the normal smooth movement you get after restarting X.

Next time it happens I'll see if I can recover any information.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-09 Thread Andy Brook
For a stable build I had to rollback to 11.10, I can't take the downtime
associated with diagnosing this, 12.04 wasn't stable for me, 12.10 didn't
cure it either, fingers crossed for 13.04. Until everyone says yay all
fixed, I wont be upgrading ;(

2013-01-09 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK but I fear for if we declare precise "fixed" and enable unredirection
for intel in Mesa 8. With the large number of Ubuntu users, even a crash
that effects 1% will cause a large headache and lots of bug reports. On
the plus side, that would result in a good number of stack traces, one
would hope :P

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098050] [NEW] Default Xv output is tearing without compositing

2013-01-09 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

This is to record the fact that the default Xv output on Intel and fglrx
[add if more such drivers] is tearing, if no compositing is used. The
open radeon driver is tear-free.

Compositing would be disabled with the help of the new unredirect
fullscreen windows feature in Compiz to improve performance, but is
currently not for various video players because of this bug.

On older Intel hardware, setting the default of XvPreferOverlay to true
in xorg.conf should fix the issue, but it does not help with newer
hardware like Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge.

On fglrx, the enabling the "tear free" setting does fix tearing in
fullscreen videos, the vsync option alone does not.
