[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097401] Re: terminal, synaptic, ubuntu sofware center, crash for no reason
Thank you for taking the time to improve Ubuntu by reporting this bug. Synaptic and Software-center crashing could be related, as they both use the same package indexes and same library, however I see no relation to Gnome Terminal. In most cases, separate application crashes should be reported in separate bugs, as tracking more application problems in the same bug is quite hard. Could you please run the following commands to report a separate bug for these applications: ubuntu-bug gnome-terminal ubuntu-bug software-center ubuntu-bug synaptic This will help us as by reporting the bugs separately for the apps with ubuntu-bug relevant information for the given application will be attached, like version number, maybe last error logs, and if not, package maintainers will request the relevant information from you, the reporter to help them fix the issue in their package. ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1097401 Title: terminal, synaptic, ubuntu sofware center, crash for no reason To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1097401/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097732] [NEW] Green screen with color depth of 16 bits
Public bug reported: I have run into a problem with the openchrome driver, when used with color depth of 16 bits. With the default depth of 24 bits everything works ok, but with color depth of 16 bits the screen is mostly green. The driver seems to be otherwise useable. It is possible to correct the color problem somewhat with xgamma, but this does not really help the broken appearance. However, the hardware cursor appears to have the right colour. I have tried various Xorg settings relating to EXA and such, but can not find a combination that would make a change for the better. Switching to a software cursor changes cursor color to a greener tint. My main motivation to get this to work is that there are some thin client hardware that should be very much useable with LTSP, and there is a remarkable speed difference when colour depths of 16 and 24 are used (16 being of course faster). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1097060] Re: Continues the system crash.
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it. Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally, in the report please include: 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -> About Ubuntu. 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by checking in Synaptic. 3) What happened and what you expected to happen. The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures . Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make your bug report much more complete. @Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch) - apologies for the delay in replying. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882341] Re: Driver grafico amd
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 882710] Re: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. "NVRM: GPU at 0000:01:00.0 has fallen off the bus."
I have had this issue as well, with Linux Mint 14, Ubuntu 12.10 and every flavor I tried. It is definitely heat related but still a problem with the driver. The fan on my Nvidia GTX 590 had been high the last few weeks and I've had issues with hard drives lately; so when I reinstalled, I started seeing the problem; I finally took the NVIDIA card out, and vaccumed the junk out of it. Now the fan is not on, thankfully, and the system does not crash. However, the fact that this crash started with a reinstall, tells me that the latest drivers are buggy. The system was working fine before even when the fan was on, and the GPU was getting hot. The install of new system and drivers expose this problem, and heat caused the system (Nvidia driver) to fail. Hope that helps, -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/882710 Title: [NVIDIA] Monitor(s) black out and session freezes. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
After following #620 i'm OK for two days now with no freezes but i face some other problems and crashes. I think many different problems are leading to same end and that is why for some of you one could solve but for other not. Main ways i see here that solved this for some people are 3. First try to disable computer power managment as discribed in #648. Second is upgrading kernel and if you don't know haw you could read #620. Third is for those that really have video card problems and they should look for drivers, installing the latest driver doesn't means it is the most stable. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1056039] Re: X crashes in drm_intel_gem_bo_close_vma <- drm_intel_gem_bo_unreference_final <- drm_intel_gem_bo_unreference_final ...
I don't doubt there are some X crashes hiding here amongst this functionality, however I am not able to reproduce any crashes on my hardware. Possibly the changes for kernel/X/etc. that have gone in since this was originally reported have fixed whatever was crashing, or perhaps there is something hardware-specific to the crash you saw. I'm going to optimistically assume the former, but you may want to doublecheck if it's the latter; if you do please collect a full backtrace from X (see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Backtracing for directions - I would recommend the gdb approach rather than using apport in this case), reopen this bug (or file a new one), and get my attention on it. The stacktrace indicates a crash in libdrm code; libdrm is really just an interface layer on top of the kernel, so it's certainly plausible that the "real" bug was in the kernel and was fixed with a newer kernel. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Precise) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1056039 Title: X crashes in drm_intel_gem_bo_close_vma <- drm_intel_gem_bo_unreference_final <- drm_intel_gem_bo_unreference_final ... Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
For a stable build I had to rollback to 11.10, I can't take the downtime associated with diagnosing this, 12.04 wasn't stable for me, 12.10 didn't cure it either, fingers crossed for 13.04. OK but I fear for if we declare precise "fixed" and enable unredirection for intel in Mesa 8. With the large number of Ubuntu users, even a crash that effects 1% will cause a large headache and lots of bug reports. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098050] [NEW] Default Xv output is tearing without compositing
Public bug reported: This is to record the fact that the default Xv output on Intel and fglrx [add if more such drivers] is tearing, if no compositing is used. The open radeon driver is tear-free. Compositing would be disabled with the help of the new unredirect fullscreen windows feature in Compiz to improve performance, but is currently not for various video players because of this bug. On older Intel hardware, setting the default of XvPreferOverlay to true in xorg.conf should fix the issue, but it does not help with newer hardware like Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge. On fglrx, the enabling the "tear free" setting does fix tearing in fullscreen videos, the vsync option alone does not. ** Affects: fglrx-installer (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: unredirect ** Tags added: unredirect ** Description changed: This is to record the fact that the default Xv output on Intel is tearing, if no compositing is used. Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
@nickg: Did you try a higher kernel like 3.5.0.21 (that's what I currently use - http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/)? It solved my freeze-problems. You can get it with a bash script like this: #!/bin/bash #Downloads Ubuntu variants of given kernel in 64-bit flavor KERNELVER="3.5.0-21" KERNELSUB="32" KERNELFLAVOR="_amd64" KERNELCOMMON="_all" SEP="_" mkdir -p /data/shared/packages/Kernel/kernel-$KERNELVER-ubuntu cd /data/shared/packages/Kernel/kernel-$KERNELVER-ubuntu wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-headers-$KERNELVER$SEP$KERNELVER.$KERNELSUB$KERNELCOMMON.deb wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-headers-$KERNELVER-generic_$KERNELVER.$KERNELSUB$KERNELFLAVOR.deb wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-$KERNELVER-generic_$KERNELVER.$KERNELSUB$KERNELFLAVOR.deb wget http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/l/linux/linux-image-extra-$KERNELVER-generic_$KERNELVER.$KERNELSUB$KERNELFLAVOR.deb Best regards, Martin. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
