[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098240] Re: No drivers

2013-01-11 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. The driver is included with Ubuntu and is
loaded by default. Your Xorg log shows no issues. Plase provide more
information. At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1072672] Re: Mouse freezes from time to time. The touchpad as well as external mouse.

2013-01-11 Thread 2046
If I remember right, nope. I have started with 12.04.
Remember the problem occurs on many distors I have tried, it is not a problem
of the Ubuntu exclusively. I do not remember what all I have tried but my first
thread says Xubuntu 12.04, CrunchBang(debian) as also Xubuntu 12.10 so I
believe my self :) that was it.

thanks for help

2013-01-11 Thread Nello
Thank you.

Bye

2013/1/11 Daniel van Vugt daniel.van.v...@canonical.com

Thanks. The issue it seems is that the old version of Mesa 8 in Ubuntu
12.04 does not support your newer hardware. Please try installing Ubuntu
12.10 which is more likely to support 3D on your hardware.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-11 Thread Simon Eriksson
Hi Martin,

I am on 12.04. Basically I tried to install Steam and it prompted for
updating of nvidia drivers. Thereafter the problem began.

Presuming it was an nvidia driver problem I did a complete purge and
installed an earlier version. Didn't work. Purged again and tried using
nouveau. Worked once then crashed and problem resumed as before.

I have read the bug feedback that mentions kernel updates but some say it
doesn't work for them.

I am considering instaling lucid lynx instead and hoping that a s clean
install will sort out the problem, whatever it is.

If you have any suggestions for a solution that I have missed that would be
great.

But the problem crash now often happens prior to the system booting ubuntu,
subverting attempts to even boot directly into safe mode or into a CLI.

I am new to Ubuntu (six months now) and don't know how to do most of the
things discussed in the forums. One thing I do know is that I need a PC
that works!

Many thanks for your time.

cheers

Simon

   Update: 6/12/2012
This bug is about a complete system lock-up. No other TTYs can be
started. Mouse doesn't move. Keyboard doesn't react. The only solution is
 hard reset.

Seems to happen on a variety of configurations, including nVidia, ATI
   and Intel graphics.

If you are still able to TTY or SSH into other sessions, move the
mouse or use the keyboard, file another bug.

   Thx. Joris V. (brains).

   Update: 5/21/2012
Updating the kernel to 3.3.6 as suggested by Michael in #91, the system
seems stable, no freezes yet in 5-6 hrs of using and watching videos for
 couple of hrs.

   Original description:
I recently installed newly released ubuntu 12.04 LTS 64 bit version on
my desktop. And it is frequently freezing, for the first few hours it ran
smoothly and when I started watching videos it started freezing randomly.
I have to use hard restart every time.
Initially it was only during videos but now even during normal browsing
 it is freezing.

I am using on board graphics and do not have any graphics card
   installed.

Can someone please help me here, I really love the new looks of 12.04
and it bugs me not being able to use :(

   Below is my hardware configuration:
Processor: Intel CORE i3 processor (2nd generation)
   Board: Intel® Desktop Board DH67BL
   Ram: 4GB
   Graphics: On board
   HDD: 500 GB

Please let me know if you need more information, or any specific logs
   I can capture (and how).

   Thanks,
   Ketan Patil

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726832]

2013-01-11 Thread TB2
I have the same problem. I use one screen above the other and my
vertical mouse pointer speed is about double of the horizontal speed.
It's unusable this way.

Now this might be a different bug or not a bug at all, but I noticed
that the VertResolution and HorizResolution options are missing, even
though they are specified in man synaptics:

---
Option VertResolution integer
Resolution of X coordinates in units/millimeter.
The value is used together with HorizResolution to
compensate unequal vertical and horizontal sensi‐
  tivity. Setting VertResolution and HorizResolution
equal values means no compensation. Default value
is read from the touchpad or set to 1 if value
could not be read. Property: Synaptics Pad Reso‐
  lution

Option HorizResolution integer
Resolution of Y coordinates in units/millimeter.
The value is used together with VertResolution to
compensate unequal vertical and horizontal sensi‐
  tivity. Setting VertResolution and HorizResolution
equal values means no compensation. Default value

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 726832]

2013-01-11 Thread Peter Hutterer
Pad Resolution is currently readonly on purpose - your pad is unlikely
to change resolutions at runtime. I admit it would make testing it
easier but right now you need to add an xorg.conf(.d) option for it.
synclient appears to be lacking it altogether, that should be fixed
(patches appreciated)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042359] Re: Partially broken brightness hotkey handling.

2013-01-11 Thread gouri
Summary : interestingly, in a bare X session, xev does not react to
those hotkeys, while it reacts to other. Does it mean the problem lies
at X level ?

## General test

To isolate the problem, I logged in with an empty account running
OpenBox only (no full desktop environment) and ran xev.

Here is the complete list of hotkeys I see when pressing special keys
and Fn-* combinations, as reported by xev.

$ grep -o 'XF86[^ )]*' /tmp/xevlog.txt | sort | uniq
XF86AudioLowerVolume
XF86AudioMute
XF86AudioNext
XF86AudioPlay
XF86AudioPrev
XF86AudioRaiseVolume
XF86AudioStop
XF86Bluetooth
XF86Calculator
XF86Display
XF86Launch1
XF86Phone
XF86Sleep
XF86TouchpadToggle
XF86WebCam
XF86WLAN

They all occur at expected places, except XF86Phone (Fn-T, without other
symbol), XF86Launch1 (Fn-C, symbol like a monitor showing letter S).
Also pressing Fn-F2 shows XF86WLAN (expected) but also XF86Bluetooth a
few seconds after (expected only XF86WLAN but that's probably a
feature).

In bug description you can see which keys does what in regular desktop
environment.

## Specific interesting part

Now, something different happens when pressing Fn-F5 (brightness down),
Fn-F6 (brightness up) and Fn-F7 (backlight toggle, icon shows screen
covered by a big X).

All three keys do change backlight as expected, but :

Fn-F5 (brightness down) cause no event seen by xev
Fn-F6 (brightness up) cause no event seen by xev
Fn-F7 (backlight toggle) causes the events below (it seems to be the only key
that provides keycode 253):

KeyPress event, serial 48, synthetic NO, window 0x161,
root 0xca, subw 0x0, time 704540, (23,116), root:(253,574),
state 0x10, keycode 253 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

KeyRelease event, serial 48, synthetic NO, window 0x161,
root 0xca, subw 0x0, time 704540, (23,116), root:(253,574),
state 0x10, keycode 253 (keysym 0x0, NoSymbol), same_screen YES,
XLookupString gives 0 bytes:
XFilterEvent returns: False

## Now what ?

Does it mean that these keys are missing at X input driver level ?
I'd be okay to test some fix at the X level, so that this problem gets fixed.

Thanks.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042359] Re: Partially broken brightness hotkey handling.

2013-01-11 Thread gouri
One more specific information : in bare OpenBox X session, none of these
keys have a visible effect handled by Ubuntu, except XF86WLAN.

Also, this laptop was sold with Windows, and there all function keys
work, including the brightness keys.

## kernel-level showkey test

I've tried https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting but it seems
outdated.
No gconf-editor, used dconf-editor instead. Tree paths do not exist,
/usr/share/doc/udev/README.keymap.txt does not exist.

Anyway, following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Architecture I tested showkey.
Fn-* combinations produced scancodes, except for the 3 malfunctioning
brightness key combinations.

## acpi-level test

Killing acpid would see it respawned immediately, so I moved the executable
away for test.
Suspend button yields acpi events, but not brightness buttons.

$ sudo cat  /proc/acpi/event
button/sleep SLPB 0080 000a
battery BAT0 0081 0001
ac_adapter AC0 0080 0001
button/power PWRB 0080 0001

## Now what ?

This suggests that the problem should be fixed at kernel level, but it
looks like kernel is never aware about those keypresses.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Hotkeys/Troubleshooting says :

if there is neither an ACPI event nor an input event, this is probably
also a kernel bug, though probably harder to diagnose (WMI, perhaps?)

I'm clueless now. Thank you for any hint.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098661] [NEW] acer aspire 1300 (S3 ProSavage) dsiplays distorted image after upgrading from Ubutn 12.04 to Ubuntu 12.10

2013-01-11 Thread baltasarq
Public bug reported:

I have a laptop Acer Aspire 1300, running Lubuntu since 10.x. Some
years, already. Everything worked fine. The problem came after upgrading
from Lubuntu 12.04 (in which display still worked correctly) to 12.10.
After that, the laptop boots up correctly, but when it boots the display
manager (lightdm) then the screen distorts completely. Only the upper
thrid is more or less correctly displayed.

The graphics card is an S3 VT8363A ProSavage KN 133 (AGP4X VGA
controller), as reported by lspci.

Modifying xorg.conf does not help.

Changing the display manager (from lightdm to lxdm) does not help, as
well.

I tried with sudo modprobe savage (since savage does not appear with
lsmod), stopping and starting the display manager. But that did not
work. Also, it appears that the module is not kept after rebooting.

Any ideas?

2013-01-11 Thread Júlio César
Hi! So, i no have a good english ehehe i am brasilian. Well, I did the install
of Ubuntu 12.10 and consult on the details of the system there was no
description for the Graphic, so I did a sudo apt-get install mesa-utils and
appeared as the Fractal Graphic description Sandybridge mobile. When you
restart the computer, before the login screen appears a window with the message
the system running in low-graphics mode and click on OK in the next window I
can not move between the options available without mouse and keyboard.

About compiz, when i put in console compiz this message is displayed

Subject: [Bug 1098240] Re: No drivers

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description
didn't include enough information. The driver is included with Ubuntu and is
loaded by default. Your Xorg log shows no issues. Plase provide more
information. At a minimum, we need:
 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
 problem,
 2. the behavior you expected, and
 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).

Using the xf86-video-intel driver in SNA mode (using version 2.20.9, but
I've seen it back to 2.20.7 as well - I have not tested SNA in earlier
versions), chromium tabs exhibit a strange blotchy flickering of
text/graphics as the mouse is moved over them. Note that this may vary
depending on the text (or more probably the length of the text) in the
tab.

I wonder if the transparent gradient/fade of the text in these tabs
plays a part here.

I will attach a video screen capture of this happening. One URL that
causes it is the URL of a previous bug I reported:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55484 (the tab in the video
uses this one).

Ok, I downgraded to pixman-0.26 (which then causes -intel to be build

configure failed (checking for MMX support).

The same problem persists even with the above done. Let me know if I
should try anything else, or if this is enough to verify that it's not
pixman...

2013-01-11 Thread Jari
Wow!
My exact issue!
I also have the old timey 3000 N100 :D
But with dual boot vista/ubuntu 12.10

But for me the system detects that the mouse pointer is there, because
buttons light up etc., but I cannot click anything... Not even the date
and time icon!

So pressing Alt is the only solution? No permanent one?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098779] [NEW] Xorg freeze

2013-01-11 Thread Howard Chu
Public bug reported:

X server crashes and leaves a core file when fglrx is installed. The
crash is immedidate upon bootup, and leaves the console showing a text
screen with the last several lines of service startup messages. Trying
to toggle to a different virtual terminal gets no response. Ctrl-Alt-Del
doesn't initiate a shutdown/reboot. However, the network is working and
I can ssh in, the kernel isn't locked up.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098779] Re: Xorg freeze

2013-01-11 Thread Narf
I can confirm this on 100%, with some more details:

 - I haven't tried ssh, but my power button works - not forcing it, I see
messages about terminating running processes.
 - Kernel image version is irrelevant, I've tried with 3.5.0-17-generic,
3.5.0-21-generic, 3.5.0-22-generic.
 - fglrx-updates gives the same result.
 - Installing the latest drivers from AMD's website also doesn't work (both the
latest stable and Catalyst 12.11 Beta 11).

Xorg.0.log says Screens found, but none have a usable configuration.
(from memory, I'm on another machine right now and will post the full
log later).

My graphics adapter is AMD Mobility Radeon HD 7650M on a Sony Vaio E
series (SVE1712V1EB) laptop. I did a lot of googling and it seems like
only a few guys on Arch Linux have managed to run a Radeon HD 7000M
series adapter with fglrx.
