[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-01-15 Thread Rabit rabit
Two hard locks yesterday after a few days without. (no mouse, no
keyboards, no ssh, dead, keyboard lights blinking for 15 seconds then
automatically reboot itself, if the sound was playing then it loops)

My observation so far: They happen mostly :
- Many times after playing video/music either local MP4 or youtube or flash
streaming videos before. But not always. And not always while playing.
- While moving mouse
- Firefox is running. ( I have chrome but rarely used)
- While computer is idling. (actually it was downloading something on firefox)
- Virtualbox is running

I've tried many kernel and now I'm on 3.6.3-030603-generic
Nvidia driver version: 3.04.64

CPU: Intel Core2Duo 2.4Ghz
MB: Asus P5LMX - 2 Gb ram
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, always updated

I'm starting to lose hope

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100110] Re: can't upgrade xorg package

2013-01-15 Thread Steve Langasek
xserver-xorg 1:7.6+12ubuntu1.12 does not appear to be an official
version of this package for 12.04 (or for any other version of Ubuntu).
It looks like you have unofficial X packages installed locally, not only
of xserver-xorg but also of packages such as xserver-xorg-core, which
don't satisfy the dependencies of the official packages?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100017] [NEW] screen freeze while switching windows

2013-01-15 Thread Paul Selkirk
Public bug reported:

I have had recurring screen freezes ever since upgrading to 12.10, on
the order of days or weeks apart. It happened two or three times,
several weeks apart, while running 3.5 kernels; then 4 times in 10 days
running 3.2 (to test a filesystem problem); then today (6 days later),
running 3.8.

When it occurs, it's always while switching windows. The switcher stays
on the screen, and usually it just freezes. Today it flipped to text
mode to display a GPU lockup error, then flipped back to a corrupted
graphics mode.

Yep, I remember I removed savagefb from the blacklist in /etc/modprobe.d
in order to check if that would solve the problem. It obviously didn't,
but I forgot to restore it in the blacklist.

I will restore the blacklist, but that's not the origin of the problem.

No, you're not the only user :) Your log shows that the savagefb driver
is being loaded. Unless you want to use this framebuffer driver (not X)
this should not happen. Try blacklisting it.

I've started getting this failure after migrating to Raring and I get
the recoverable lockups 3 times a day or even more with the same GPU
lockup message in dmesg. Apport has proposed [sandybridge-m-gt2+] GPU
lockup IPEHR: 0x0b160001 IPEHR: 0x0b140001 as a bug title.

I am using 3.8.0-0-generic kernel.

There is no AccelMethod string in Xorg log (so it should be uxa), will
check whether this happens with sna.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1099846] [NEW] with dual monitors connected, ubuntu will not shutdown

2013-01-15 Thread watgrad
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS - this is a fresh installation
Macbookpro8,1
Intel i5 processor
intel sandybridge mobile graphics

If a second monitor is connected, ubuntu freezes during shut down and log out.
If the second monitor is disconnected, shut down proceeds as normal.
To reproduce:
setup dual monitors
try to shut down the system

I also noted this behaviour on 12.10 ubuntu, but have since reverted to
12.04 for a different reason.

I have always noted this behaviour - it has never shut down properly
with a dual monitor attached.

** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 36812] Re: Keyboard layout change on hotkeys press instead of release and do not work well with shortcuts

2013-01-15 Thread Denis Zhdanov
For example, if I press a key (letter, backspace or other) and then layout
switch combination without half second pause between, then layout wont be
changed.
To switch between layouts I use "caps/shift+caps" combination. It's not a
"modifier only" combination, but still affected by 208_switch_on_release.diff
patch. In Windows even alt+shift combination work perfectly.

My English is bad. So can I e-mail you details in Russian?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]

2013-01-15 Thread Jesse Glick
FWIW this bug only happens to me when unlocking the screen saver,
usually though not always after a resume from suspend. I think it
happens when I start typing a password quickly and right away. (The
crash does not happen immediately—a few seconds later.)

If I take care to wait a moment until the caret in the password text
field is blinking steadily I seem to be able to avoid it. This
hypothesis would explain why the crash seems to happen most often when
the computer is under load (either from a resume, or because there is a
substantial background process like a big compile)—in such cases the
screen saver GUI is a little slower to react.

Alternatively it is possible the crash is related to my fingers
accidentally brushing the touchpad while typing the password.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]

2013-01-15 Thread Moondrake
I am not sure if it is still the same issue, but the last comments in
this bug are very similar to what is reported in bug 55821.

A reproducible test case I could not find. It just happens during normal
use, though a heavy load (suspend/resume) may trigger it quicker. It is
hard to be really sure of this however.

This is on a Lenovo T410 with fedora 18 (note: I think 17 did not have
this problem).

Touchpad is locked into "scrolling". A possible solution is probably to not
increase num_active_touches if priv->num_active_touches > priv->num_slots.
But this would obviously not fix the underlying cause (just fix the annoying
loss of trackpad).

What you are describing sounds like a different bug to this one, this
bug is related to random full freezing where the gpu locks and mouse and
keyboard are unresponsive and the computer must be manually restarted by
holding the power button down.

I have had success with kernel 3.8 on both raring ringtail and now back
on quantal with the 3.8 rc3 kernel and the 313.09 drivers from the xorg
edgers ppa with no freezes at all.

I've set the VESA driver, and now everything works okay (though it still
complains about xorg crashing at boot). Anyway, now I have a resolution
of 1024x768 and everything seems fine.

Maybe the solution to all of this is just drop savage and make people
(or just me, provided that I am the only one user of Savage) use the
VESA driver, I don't know.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1086345] Re: Quantal-LTS-stack: Showing low-resolution screen on shutdown/reboot

2013-01-15 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Either a bug in plymouth, or libdrm. Thanks for finally giving me data
to back up my suspicion that renaming was a bad idea.

There are 2 possible paths forward:
- Plymouth always using the 'dumb' api, if available. This will probably need a
new version of plymouth, however, and only has been the default on raring.
- Drop libdrm renaming, and just upload a new libdrm version. The only reason
to put it in was for making plymouth pick up on the old libdrm anyway.

The third option, renaming plymouth, is nearly impossible without
changing a LOT of packages.

Eventually we'll need to do the former, but I think for now we don't
want to do that since it's only been the default in raring. As such I
believe we should wait until the raring release before we do that, since
I'm not comfortable just uploading a complete new version of plymouth
this late in the cycle.
