But not always. And not always while playing. - While moving mouse - Firefox is running. ( I have chrome but rarely used) - While computer is idling. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1100017] [NEW] screen freeze while switching windows
Public bug reported: I have had recurring screen freezes ever since upgrading to 12.10, on the order of days or weeks apart. It happened two or three times, several weeks apart, while running 3.5 kernels; then 4 times in 10 days running 3.2 (to test a filesystem problem); then today (6 days later), running 3.8. When it occurs, it's always while switching windows. The switcher stays on the screen, and usually it just freezes. Today it flipped to text mode to display a GPU lockup error, then flipped back to a corrupted graphics mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]
FWIW this bug only happens to me when unlocking the screen saver, usually though not always after a resume from suspend. I think it happens when I start typing a password quickly and right away. (The crash does not happen immediately—a few seconds later.) If I take care to wait a moment until the caret in the password text field is blinking steadily I seem to be able to avoid it. This hypothesis would explain why the crash seems to happen most often when the computer is under load (either from a resume, or because there is a substantial background process like a big compile)—in such cases the screen saver GUI is a little slower to react. Alternatively it is possible the crash is related to my fingers accidentally brushing the touchpad while typing the password. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/956071 Title: Xorg crashed with SIGSEGV in XIGetDeviceProperty() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/956071/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 956071]
I am not sure if it is still the same issue, but the last comments in this bug are very similar to what is reported in bug 55821. A reproducible test case I could not find. It just happens during normal use, though a heavy load (suspend/resume) may trigger it quicker. It is hard to be really sure of this however. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1086345] Re: Quantal-LTS-stack: Showing low-resolution screen on shutdown/reboot
Either a bug in plymouth, or libdrm. Thanks for finally giving me data to back up my suspicion that renaming was a bad idea. There are 2 possible paths forward: - Plymouth always using the 'dumb' api, if available. This will probably need a new version of plymouth, however, and only has been the default on raring. - Drop libdrm renaming, and just upload a new libdrm version. The only reason to put it in was for making plymouth pick up on the old libdrm anyway. The third option, renaming plymouth, is nearly impossible without changing a LOT of packages. Eventually we'll need to do the former, but I think for now we don't want to do that since it's only been the default in raring. As such I believe we should wait until the raring release before we do that, since I'm not comfortable just uploading a complete new version of plymouth this late in the cycle. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to libdrm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1086345 Title: Quantal-LTS-stack: Showing low-resolution screen on shutdown/reboot To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libdrm/+bug/1086345/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
