[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971018] Re: Auto-hide Unity Launcher will not reveal when mouse pushed to left side in VirtualBox or VMware
Hate to just add another comment confirming the above. I have just constructed a new 12.04.1 LTS 64 bit machine, mainly because my attempts to upgrade from my much loved 10.04 LTS were so buggy. The details of my system are as follows Ubuntu 12.04.01 guest Vmware Player 5.0.1 build-894247 Vista Service Pack 2 host Dell Studio XPS 435MT The new 12.04.1 machine works well and responds quicker than 10.04 which is good. However when I switch on autohide for the Launcher, I cannot reveal it again with the mouse. I should add that I have no shadows, just no response at all. The keyboard shortcuts all work perfectly and it will reveal when alt F1 is pressed (or alt for search and the super key for the whole menu). I have installed the CompizConfig Settings Manager and changed all the sensitivity settings with no result. My assumption is that this is a 12.04.1 issue as I had no similar issues with autohide of toolbars or any other mouse behaviour at with edge of the desktop with Vmware in any previous version of Ubuntu. As this bug seems to have affected a number of users for over 8 months, I was just wondering whether anyone was trying to address it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing
I'm aware that I'm probably missing something and/or posting in the wrong place. I am trying to find an active bug addressing the non reveal on autohide issue with 12.04.1 LTS. I don't have the nvidia driver package installed but am still suffering from the same bug. There are a number of confirmed and incomplete bugs related to this - Bug #971018, #923749, this one #1057000 and many more. It is therefore impossible to unpick what problems are actually being addressed. The bugs seem to suggest that the problem has been narrowed down to 1 incorrect settings, 2 lack of user skill, or 3 nvidia driver problems. However there seems is a separate problem for people who 1 cannot make the toolbar appear even with CompizConfig adjustments, 2 have fully followed the instructions on how to push to get the launcher to appear, and 3 don't use nvidia drivers, or have tried the nvidia fix and it did not work. I have already posted (probably incorrectly) on https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/971018. Any advice on what bug to post on (to avoid further forum pollution from yet another new bug report) would be welcome. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1057000 Title: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/nvidia-drivers-ubuntu/+bug/1057000/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
Possible stupid fix: I had the total freeze problem as well. Yesterday night, the computer froze 7 or 8 times in three hours. Today, I installed gnome 3 and used it for a few hours without problem. I installed the gnome 3 GUI following the procedure given at http://www.allili.net/gnu-linux/installer-gnome-3-4-sur-ubuntu-12-04 (in french), i.e.: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install gnome-shell Then you need to reboot (but you must be used to rebooting by now) and select the gnome GUI at the login screen. This pseudo-fix is not as radical as installing a previous version of Ubuntu. Too sad for people who like Unity. If on the long run, it appears it really solved the problem (this bug is sometimes surprising), it may indicate the bug is rooted in one of the packages specific of Unity. I'll fill another comment if the system restarts freezing again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1116588] [NEW] nvidia-settings ignores randr settings; shows displays as unrotated

Hi Giovanni Fasino, Hmm... I'm not sure I totally understand your description of the problem. Could you please elaborate and clarify? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1116475] Re: [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0ed45f20
Hi, you indicated this freeze happens several times a week. Is it always with the same set of steps you described in the description, or does it vary? ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1116475 Title: [arrandale] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x0ed45f20 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1116475/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098061] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x60020100
First, say it froze or locked up. crashes are something different entirely. :-) Second, when you get gpu freezes, you need to collect the output of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both of these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by sshing into the sick machine over ethernet). See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for additional info. Third, upstream is pretty much completely disinterested in reports about random gpu lockups, and just close them out. So I guess if it is indeed just random, I suppose you'll just have to live with it and hope someone else gets a better angle on it. But you mentioned it seems to happen when switching workspaces, so perhaps try doing that a whole bunch and see if it occurs again. If you can force it to happen deliberately then upstream may be able to help pin it down and get it fixed. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098061 Title: [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x60020100 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1098061/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
