Hmm, so -updates for this driver doesn't make sense anymore, which is
probably why it wasn't updated for raring or quantal. People upgrading
from precise might get screwed though?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 301958] Re: no support for sis 671/771 video cards

2013-02-05 Thread Antonio J. de Oliveira
@William Berzoff, I gave up for the moment being, as my driver page (
http://ajoliveira.com/ajoliveira/uk/software/xorg.php ) states. At this
point I got no time left, the code I used is there. I made 4 attempts to
correct the code with 4 different sources. I even grabbed archlinux
sources, patched and recompiled from scratch. No way, the driver crashes
xorg.

I have to add that I got problems on 2 other laptops using Trident and
Intel graphics boards and I had to revert to 12.04, because those became
unusable. I therefore do not recommend anything other than 12.04 for an
usable, stable system.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 971018] Re: Auto-hide Unity Launcher will not reveal when mouse pushed to left side in VirtualBox or VMware

2013-02-05 Thread Jonathan Haxton
Hate to just add another comment confirming the above.

I have just constructed a new 12.04.1 LTS 64 bit machine, mainly because
my attempts to upgrade from my much loved 10.04 LTS were so buggy.

The details of my system are as follows

Ubuntu 12.04.01 guest
Vmware Player 5.0.1 build-894247
Vista Service Pack 2 host
Dell Studio XPS 435MT

The new 12.04.1 machine works well and responds quicker than 10.04 which
is good.

However when I switch on autohide for the Launcher, I cannot reveal it
again with the mouse. I should add that I have no shadows, just no
response at all.

The keyboard shortcuts all work perfectly and it will reveal when alt
F1 is pressed (or alt for search and the super key for the whole
menu).

I have installed the CompizConfig Settings Manager and changed all the
sensitivity settings with no result.

My assumption is that this is a 12.04.1 issue as I had no similar issues
with autohide of toolbars or any other mouse behaviour at with edge of
the desktop with Vmware in any previous version of Ubuntu.

As this bug seems to have affected a number of users for over 8 months,
I was just wondering whether anyone was trying to address it.

Thanks

Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk

sna/dri: Make sure we discard the existing mappings when swapping GPU bo

If the GPU bo is currently mapped to the Pixmap, we need to be sure to
invalidate that mapping if we swap the GPU bo (for SwapBuffers). If we
forget, we leave a dangling pointer to chase.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1057000] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1/12.10] nVidia drivers 304.51 prevent autohidden Unity launcher from revealing

2013-02-05 Thread Jonathan Haxton
I'm aware that I'm probably missing something and/or posting in the
wrong place.

I am trying to find an active bug addressing the non reveal on autohide
issue with 12.04.1 LTS. I don't have the nvidia driver package
installed but am still suffering from the same bug.

There are a number of confirmed and incomplete bugs related to this -
Bug #971018, #923749, this one #1057000 and many more. It is therefore
impossible to unpick what problems are actually being addressed.

The bugs seem to suggest that the problem has been narrowed down to

1 incorrect settings,
2 lack of user skill, or
3 nvidia driver problems.

However there seems is a separate problem for people who

1 cannot make the toolbar appear even with CompizConfig adjustments,
2 have fully followed the instructions on how to push to get the launcher to
appear, and
3 don't use nvidia drivers, or have tried the nvidia fix and it did not work.

I have already posted (probably incorrectly) on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/971018.

Any advice on what bug to post on (to avoid further forum pollution from
yet another new bug report) would be welcome.

2013-02-05 Thread Sergi Sales
Sorry to bother but it seems, for the lack of comments, that the bug has been
solved, but not in my case..
I'm experiencing it every day
- Raring updated to 5/2/13 on DELL LATITUDE E4200
- kernel 3.8.0-4 on x64
- xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.20.19-0

for the comment #156 it is supposed to be solved in the current raring kernel,
but it's not..
I'm the only one ??

2013-02-05 Thread madbiologist
Radeon HD 7850 - so likely using LLVMpipe, which would explain the
slowness.

Instead of the Catalyst (fglrx) driver from AMD's website, try opening
System Settings and selecting Additional Drivers from the Hardware
section, and use that to install the Ubuntu packaged fglrx driver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

2013-02-05 Thread Big Ben
Possible stupid fix:

I had the total freeze problem as well. Yesterday night, the computer froze 7
or 8 times in three hours. Today, I installed gnome 3 and used it for a few
hours without problem. I installed the gnome 3 GUI following the procedure
given at
 http://www.allili.net/gnu-linux/installer-gnome-3-4-sur-ubuntu-12-04 (in
french), i.e.:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install gnome-shell

Then you need to reboot (but you must be used to rebooting by now) and
select the gnome GUI at the login screen.

This pseudo-fix is not as radical as installing a previous version of
Ubuntu. Too sad for people who like Unity. If on the long run, it
appears it really solved the problem (this bug is sometimes surprising),
it may indicate the bug is rooted in one of the packages specific of
Unity.

I'll fill another comment if the system restarts freezing again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1112859] Re: Optoma HD20 projector recognized but no HDMI signal

2013-02-05 Thread Reece
Data from second laptop.

I also have an HP dm4-1173cl with intel HD graphics, running 12.04. It
also recognizes the HD20 as OTM 72, but it projects correctly.

Thus, the problem seems to be specific to the combination of the Dell
XPS 14 and Optoma HD20.

Phooey!

I'm on Precise. I installed fglrx-updates which, for some reason, has
had this broken version backported to Precise's fglrx-updates, but you
would expect that from fglrx-updates I guess.

fglrx itself has problems and I described my workaround to that at
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1114520

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 360724] Re: [RV515] Kubuntu: Corrupted mouse cursor after moving between screens

2013-02-05 Thread Cade Robinson
I hate to necro old posts but I have the same issue.
But I use Arch and have had this on KDE 4.9 and 4.10 RCs. Probably 4.8 too.

Just like the reporter my cursor corrupts on the line between my screen 1 and
screen 2.
For me everytime it happens it is corrupt on screen 1 and just fine on screen 2.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1116588] [NEW] nvidia-settings ignores randr settings; shows displays as unrotated

2013-02-05 Thread Andy Somerville
Public bug reported:

nvidia-settings no longer has a rotation entry because the driver now
supports the relevant version of RandR to allow the system tools to do
it itself.

However, once randr is set via the system tools, nvidia-settings X
Server Display Configuration no longer accurately reflects the current
configuration of the system and thus cannot be used effectively.

Further, tools like the gnome-control-center's options for wacom
graphics tablet appear to rely on the same info that nvidia-settings is
to determine the display layout, and thus fail to properly configure
their geometry.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1116587] [NEW] With external monitor the system is rarely working for more than 10 minutes

2013-02-05 Thread Felix Möller
Public bug reported:

I have a Lenove Thinkpad T400 with an external monitor (1680x1050)
connected.

Switching windows, surfing the web, and using the compiz effect that
streteches windows when moving them against the border cause my system
to freeze.

I can still move the mouse, however, nothing is clickable at all.

Hoped that todays update to 2.21.0-0ubuntu1 solved, the issue but froze
allready twice in 30 minutes. There is nothing in the logs AFAICS.

2013-02-05 Thread rsoika
I am using gnome-shell and I have also the freezes on my new ultrabook with
intel-ivy-bridge from the beginning . I don't think the freeze is related to
the windows manager. But to me it seems that the freeze depends on whats going
on in the GPU.
It is really hard to say what forces the freeze.

2013-02-05 Thread Ilya Murav'jov
Just my 0.02 cents. Why not to introduce transaction concept for key
 presses?
You just go too far. Xorg developers don't apply the patch because _any_ such
events should be sent on press, not on release. Because X specifications tell
so and they will be broken down otherwise.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098061] Re: [gm45] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x60020100

2013-02-05 Thread Bryce Harrington
First, say it froze or locked up. crashes are something different
entirely. :-)

Second, when you get gpu freezes, you need to collect the output of
'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. Both of
these must be collected while the machine is locked up (e.g. by sshing
into the sick machine over ethernet). See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/Freeze for additional info.

Third, upstream is pretty much completely disinterested in reports about
random gpu lockups, and just close them out. So I guess if it is
indeed just random, I suppose you'll just have to live with it and hope
someone else gets a better angle on it. But you mentioned it seems to
happen when switching workspaces, so perhaps try doing that a whole
bunch and see if it occurs again. If you can force it to happen
deliberately then upstream may be able to help pin it down and get it
fixed.
