[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 777493] Re: nvidia drivers activated but not in use on natty 11.04

2013-02-14 Thread Abhayadev S
in 12.04 and 12.10 (ubuntu-studio) i started with nouveau driver and
then used jockey to enbale the nvidia driver. but after a couple of
reboot and removal of the nouveau still the nvidia-sertings is telling
me that x-org is not using this driver please enable it. also jockey
tells me that the drier is enabled but not active. mine is GT 9 series
one and is there any workaround to enable this. i very badly needs the
hdmi/dvi outputs of the card for multi-screen production works.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103236] Re: Choppy and pixelated video on Macbook Air 5, 1. Unable to run/view HD videos at all

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
I just meant I have no control over flash playback as it is a propietary
3rd party application - we have to wait for them to improve it.

The mplayer output says that is capable of decoding roughly 10 such
streams in real time (i.e. it ran at 250fps). So the bottleneck in the
pipeline is not the decode or presentation. Let's continue to focus on
mplayer so I can find exactly where the bottleneck is.

Sticking with mplayer -vo xv (which is the default if you specify no
-vo) can you please decribe if that renders smoothly, then hit 'f' to
make it fullscreen (or you can pass -fs on the mplayer commandline).
Does it begin to stutter then?

Also, since you describe severe video distortion, can you grab a
screenshot or photograph?

lack of error checking in that version of UXA.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 945006] Re: Screen flickers heavily (combination of many distinct bugs)

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
So everybody seems to have a separate bug just with a similar artifact.
Can you please file separate reports so that we can actually begin
addressing the issue.

The original bug here relates to automatic downclocking of the LVDS
output as a powersaving feature on old Intel gfx. There are patches to
align that to vblank that I have been waiting years to find someone in
the position to test them

** Summary changed:

- Screen flickers heavily after upgrading to 12.04 beta 1

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1103236] Re: Choppy and pixelated video on Macbook Air 5, 1. Unable to run/view HD videos at all

2013-02-14 Thread Charles Lease
I just meant I have no control over flash playback as it is a
propietary 3rd party application - we have to wait for them to improve
it.

I don't think it has to do with Flash since the same video runs fine in
the other operating system but not in Ubuntu. Also, the same problem
occurs for html5 videos which I think, correct me if I'm wrong, is open
source on youtube.

Sticking with mplayer -vo xv (which is the default if you specify no -vo)
can you please decribe if that renders smoothly, then hit 'f' to make it
fullscreen (or you can pass -fs on the mplayer commandline). Does it begin to
stutter then?

It stutters in both fullscreen and in a windowed view.

Also, since you describe severe video distortion, can you grab a screenshot
or photograph?

The screenshot doesn't seem to capture the pixelation and skips, but you
can see the blurriness. (exact same video works perfectly fine in OSX
using vlc)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 637155] Re: wacom touchscreen driver doesn't point the right place when multi-screen

2013-02-14 Thread bugbot
We're closing this bug since there has not been a response from the original
reporter. However, the issue still exists please feel free to reopen with the
requested information. If you're not the original reporter, we'd prefer you
file a new bug report.

Some tips:

  * Report X.org bugs via the command:  `ubuntu-bug xorg`

  * Test against the latest development Ubuntu.
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/
Bugs marked as affecting the development version tend to get priority
attention.

  * The `xdiagnose` utility has functionality for enabling debugging and
analyzing a few common X problems.

  * Tag your bugs with the Ubuntu versions you have reproduced the issue
in.

  * See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Reporting for tips on writing good bug
reports.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879838] Re: Keyboard Layout Germany Neo 2: Mod4 does not work if used as secondary keyboard layout

2013-02-14 Thread Stephan Springer
This bug annoys me, too, and I've seen it in Oneiric (11.10) and Precise
(12.04). I guess it is present in Quantal and Raring, too.

I have configured “German Neo 2” and “German eliminate dead keys”
layouts, and whatever I choose as the secondary layout does not work
correctly. Only the primary layout works as expected.

If Neo is the secondary layout, both Mod4 keys are completely ignored,
so instead of layer 4 and 6 I get layer 1 and 3, respectively. (See http
://neo-layout.org/ for details.)

If “Qwertz” is the secondary layout, I can't type “”, “” and “|”,
because the left one of the two Neo-Mod4-keys is dead. This makes
working on the command line rather impossible.

My workaround is to select Neo as the primary layout, and if someone
else (unfamiliar with Neo) needs to type on my keyboard, I have to
change the primary layout.

You have to manually configure X in this case to use both devices
simultaneously (so long as the BIOS doesn't hide the igfx when a dgpu is
plugged in). In raring, though this should start to work semi-
automatically using nouveau with PRIME.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1022376] Re: Unaccelerated Video with installed Intel Video Card by default

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
Well chrome doesn't use video acceleration any way. But even so, it
should still be quite capable of decoding HD streams using your CPU and
presenting them without dropping frames. No idea about Miro. VLC the
last time I looked at it had some attrocious GL video decode pipeline
(slower and tons of artifacts).

Can you please update to raring and attach your Xorg.log?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1046118

I have updated to all the latest version of unity, lightdm, gdm settings,
kernel.
This was still causing issues.

Downgraded kernel from
uname -a
Linux 3.5.0-23-generic #35~precise1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 25 17:15:33 UTC 2013
i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux

To the latest generic which has fixed this issue. I am going to add this
bug to the Linux 3.5.0-23 bug profile.

uname -srvpio
Linux 3.2.0-37-generic-pae #58-Ubuntu SMP Thu Jan 24 15:51:02 UTC 2013 i686
i386 GNU/Linux

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
So my testcase was fixed by:

commit 1565917f10d9fb3c7e2e7e273173c38c364b9861
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Tue Feb 5 10:11:14 2013 +

sna/gen4: Disable non-rectilinear GPU span compositing

This seems to be the primary victim of the render corruption, so disable
until the root cause is fixed.

Can you please check your worst-case / typical behaviours and see if any
still remain?

(In reply to comment #47)
 Created attachment 74207 [details]
Sample libreoffice document that almost always shows issues on gen4

I am attaching a test file that does almost never look right when opened
 with libreoffice on gen4

I get different rendering of that test.odg with different versions of
lodraw - and on the machine that renders it different, it switches back
to the old output at a certain scale factor. That is quite atypical
behaviour for this gen4 bug.

Either it's that hard to trigger or it simply doesn't exist for *my*
configuration.

Chris, how much influence could the kernel drm and libdrm version have
on those issues? I use Linux 3.7.5 and the recent libdrm from git.

The bug that I'm presuming underlies all of these gen4 corruption issues
is a misprogramming of GPU state - I have seen the flicker persist for a
few kernels now and would not expect it to be a factor. (Except that
there may be an eventual w/a required in the kernel, we have not applied
one recently.)

Weird enough, I have discovered that the rendering bug with my test file
(test.odg) goes away if antialiasing is disabled in libreoffice.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2013-02-14 Thread Sergio Callegari
This morning I've received the kde 4.10 update and newer debs for git
version of the intel driver (13/02/07 - git 974b6a).

I cannot decouple if the rendering issues have worsened with the newer
driver (probably not) or if the newer kde framework and kwin is exposing
bugs in a more aggressive way, but things have become a bit problematic
with this newer setup.

1) Border of the toolbar disappears
2) Shades/light effects of kwin do not render properly and remain in place
(often with distortion) after use
3) Some characters appear underlined in the konsole

Moving back to uxa seems to fix all these issues, as well as the
libreoffice rendering.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2013-02-14 Thread High-entropy
Hi Chris,

thanks for clarification.

I compiled the driver with --with-default-accel=sna and set
both, the rotated and non-rotated screens, to AccelMethod blt.

Now, the rotated screen is _all black_ but the cursor.
So I, somehow, managed to start acroread but do not see anything but the cursor.
The other screen works fine, though.

Ah, sorry I mislead. I forgot everybody doesn't use SNA as their default
accelmethod. In order to use the BLT trick, you need to --disable-uxa or
--with-default-accel=sna.

I can't test it, obviously.
The rotated zaphod screen, at which the artefacts appear in my case, is only

On a side note:
I tried it nevertheless as I forgot about that.
The result was a segfault of the xserver.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 879838] Re: Keyboard Layout Germany Neo 2: Mod4 does not work if used as secondary keyboard layout

2013-02-14 Thread TheKey84
I read in several places (like here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=176113) that there is a feature
that should preserve shortcut positions when changeing the keyboard
layout. It seems that pressing certain keys switches the selected layout
back to the primary one.

I had no time to check if this is the reason. Unfortunately I found no
way to turn this behavior off.

2013-02-14 Thread Chris Wilson
The source of this error was a driver leak in the UXA glyph code (at
least according to my notes). iirc, somewhen around 2.20.4 had the fix.
The DDX will compile against your version of Xorg, and I would strongly
recommend you take all the bug fixes in there rather than cherry-
picking. Or else poke your friendly package maintainer for a backport
of2.21.2...

with Intel Ivybridge (8086:0106) / AMD Radeon HD 7500M/7600m Series (1002:6841).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1125207] [NEW] xterm cannot handle unicode when default font is changed

2013-02-14 Thread gokcehan
Public bug reported:

I have been trying to change my font to `Terminus` (it is broken for
most other fonts as well) using either something like:

xterm*font : -*-terminus-*-*-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-*-*

or:

xterm*font : xft:Terminus:pixelsize=12

and most unicode characters seem broken. I have been testing this using:

http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/~mgk25/ucs/examples/UTF-8-demo.txt

There is no such problem with gnome-terminal or urxvt.

** Affects: xterm (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
