[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155892] [NEW] Overscan settings in catalyst not used after starting Ubuntu

2013-03-16 Thread Johan Hult
Public bug reported:

Hi

I am testing the daily builds of 13.04 raring ringtail on a AMD desktop
with a Radeon 5750 graphics card and a dual monitor setup (normal
monitor and a HD-tv, both 1080p)

When using the binary drivers, fglrx or fglrx-updates I can set overscan
values in the catalyst control center and everything looks fine, but
when I reboot the system does not actualluy use the choosen overscan
values and the desktop does not fill the entire screen any longer. The
values choosen in the control center are still shown correctly in the
control center, but just not used when starting the desktop.

This problem does not exist in the open source drivers (but in turn they
ahve HDMI sound issues, but that is another bug :)).

This problem also also appeared in the 12.10 beta.

Best regards

If you can grab a photo of the corruption as well that's usually very
helpful in identifying the source of the problem.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155911] [NEW] no network connection because module jme is not available

2013-03-16 Thread Lieven
Public bug reported:

Release: Lubuntu 13.04 daily build, march 12, 2013

I will attach the following files
lspci.txt (output of lspci -vvnn)
dmesg.txt (dmesg)
lsmod.txt (output of lsmod)

I will also attach the file 12.04-lsmod.txt, which gives the output of
the same lsmod command, but run from Lubuntu 12.04.

The difference between the two files is obvious: In 12.04 all needed
modules were available, in 13.04 much of the needed modules are gone.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1083032] Re: Video driver not working for Savage chipset

2013-03-16 Thread Rubin
Hey Tormod,

I'm setting up an old Acer Aspire 1300 with the S3 Savage chip in it. I
added your PPA to my sources.list to test and installed your version of
the Xorg server + drivers. I rebooted single user, ran Xorg -configure
and I edited xorg.conf to only contain an entry for the savage driver so
as to avoid accidental it works! while you're unconsciously running
vesa or something else.

I specified only Option AccelMethod EXA and not DisableTile. I can
confirm the graphics work. Without an Xorg.conf, graphics won't work and
are gibberish. I'm not familiar with these cards experience wise, but it
seems slow, draging windows is jerky and scrolling too.

If you want me to check a few things, let me know!

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 931122] Re: [q35] 3D performance is very bad

2013-03-16 Thread oliver
I am using my Q35 to run XBMC and am only getting 17 FPS for the 'plain
old menu'. While I'm sure the Q35 isn't a powerhouse, 17FPS @ 1280x720
is a bit low I would think. I wil test in the next few weeks running
plain X without any ubuntu and see if that is any better.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155972] [NEW] Suspend-Resume gives me colored but useless screen

2013-03-16 Thread flrtx
Public bug reported:

I used to use suspend (to RAM) a lot on my netbook but since upgrading to 12.10
it's broken. Suspending seems to work fine, but when I try to resume the
machine, I get a colored screen and a big square instead of my mouse pointer. I
can move this square around the whole screen, but apart from that, I can't do
anything graphically. No login prompt appears as it used to. I finally managed
to report this bug since it annoys me so much.
The only thing I can do, is switching to tty1 and login in on the command line.
While I can reboot the system from there, it doesn't help me much since
suspending the computer is still useless. It even takes longer than a normal
rebbot.
How can I help you to track down the problem?

Ok, it turns out this unwanted behaviour is due to not selecting the

The error-state quite clearly states v3.5 and matches the TLB invalidate

i915_error_state, and don't mention the hang.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156021] Re: fglrx 2:9.002-0ubuntu1: fglrx kernel module failed to build

2013-03-16 Thread Dave Lentz
fglrx-9.002 is too old for raring's 3.8 kernel. I'm guessing this is an
older version you had in precise that's trying to rebuild with dkms.
Completely purging fglrx and reinstalling it should get you the latest
version: fglrx-9.010

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1154913] Re: package fglrx-amdcccle 2:9.000-0ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: package fglrx-amdcccle is already installed and configured

2013-03-16 Thread Dave Lentz
Package reinstallation is not the issue here. The problem is that you
have Intel/ATI hybrid graphics:

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core
Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller
1:00.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] nee ATI
Whistler XT [AMD Radeon HD 6700M Series]

Possible workaround here:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1156077] [NEW] Black screen when booting after a fresh install on chromebook

2013-03-16 Thread monostel
Public bug reported:

I installed Ubuntu 13.04 on my Cr-48 chromebook, which went smoothly.
However, once I boot for the first time the screen flickers showing only
black. Sound appears to be working though since the login sound is made.

The screen does begin to function once I close the lid to suspend then
open the lid to resume though. Even then the cooling fan is startings to
run indefinitely at high speed for no apparent reason since there is
nothing running which is using a lot of resources.

It's especially odd to me since prior releases of Ubuntu, even when in
development, have not had these problems with this particular hardware
configuration.

2013-03-16 Thread GooDCoFF
Same for me...

Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)

Don't know if this is xorg bug, but:

kernel 3.8: in dispaly configuration i have 2 display (one with low
resolution), low resolution on login screen, freeze after some minutes
of work.

kernel 3.5: in display configuration just 1 display (as expected), real
resolution everywhere, no freeze at all...

The system seem also set/detect wrong screen size as you can see into attached

The window frame you can see in the image is a open full screen firefox browser

Seems the screen area is set to some wrong value.

2013-03-16 Thread Michael Becker
I got the same Problem, CCSM doesnt remember the 60hz and i also have to turn
off Sync to VBlank in Nvidia-Settings to get no stutter when running glxgears
and compiz at the same time.
I also run ccsm and set it every reboot cause the setting also reverts to 50hz.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 537385] Re: does not terminate at computer shutdown

2013-03-16 Thread Ian KP
my system hangs on shutdown when using NVIDIA accelerated graphics
driver (version current) [Recommended] with Ubuntu 12.04. changing to
NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (post-release updates) (version
173-updates) allows my computer to fully shut down. the problem
destroyed my laptop monitor because the computer was overheating while
in my laptop was closed (screen to keyboard) and in my laptop bag
because it hadn't turned off.

Yep - unfortunately I docked to file the bug report, and when I undocked

Verbally, I would describe it as trying to look at my windows through
