Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Cairo-dock-team] [Bug 1127281] Re: Artifacts when scrolling
I think we should first report a bug the Intel drivers devs, because if I'm not mistaken, it only happens to people having an Intel graphic card. Then, it would be useful to test with another WM than Compiz (so for instance Gnome-shell or Metacity, or even KDE). Also, does Opera use GTK ? it could also be a common point. 2013/4/4 Matthieu Baerts matt...@gmail.com @Dmitry: thank you! :) Is it maybe possible to quickly test the latest Raring daily build in order to know if we have to remove this feature only for Ubuntu Precise (and if there is a bug in the video drivers)? @fabounet: or maybe should we remove the use of XCompositeRedirectWindow for everybody? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
OK, i know, this bug should be stopped posting to but i could kind of workaround it: A PC i am responsible for was crashing with 12.04 and 12.10 every hour nearly. What solved it for me: 1) Updated to raring ringtail (upcoming 13.04), kernel 3.8.x. (Why is raring THAT stable right now? It works really well here! But pls keep in mind its pre-beta. Though with this crashes here, you should be good to go for an upgrade ;-) ) 2) Updated firmware on the harddrive (a SSD in my case) 3) flashed new bios (ASROCK mini itx mainboard h61m-itx) In case you follow the steps, choose 3) 2) 1), cause updating the frmware on the SSD might erase your data. It was a rage-upgrade (PC was close to forced death), i did not have the patience to update one-by-one to see what was the reason. oh, and i wonder if instead of breaking xinit for the users that use it by dropping the dep or demoting xterm to x-terminal-emulator if we could probably just get away with not shipping it at all on the desktop (indeed that gets us in debugging hell where users are asked to run startx to produce a log etc, but we could just document that you have to install xinit in such cases) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1116791 Title: xterm and gnome-terminal should not be dependencies To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ubuntu-meta/+bug/1116791/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Start with /var/log/Xorg.0.log after the hang but before rebooting (try switching to a virtual terminal, or remotely logging in). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1104529] Re: Screen brightness does not work properly on samsung chronos 7
FWIW Mine is a different Samsung machine (NP900x3d), my Ubuntu version is 12.10. I've tried with/without acpi_backlight=vendor . More precisely this is my current boot command line: luis@sams9:~$ cat /proc/cmdline BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.5.0-26-generic root=... ro quiet splash i915.i915_enable_rc6=1 i915.i915_enable_fbc=1 i915.lvds_downclock=1 vt.handoff=7 (The i915* options are my own customizations) The output: * with acpi_backlight=vendor added (Fn key combination does not work): [ 5.613] (--) intel(0): found backlight control interface /sys/class/backlight/samsung * without acpi_backlight=vendor, as it is in the referred /proc/cmdline (Fn key combination works): [ 5.097] (--) intel(0): found backlight control interface /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0 The weird thing is that acpi_backlight=verdor worked when BIOS was in UEFI mode. I've changed this to CSM mode after some research about the infamous firmware bug: http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/22855.html Unfortunately I cannot provide more info for the UEFI mode. The main advantage of using the samsung interface is that the minimum brightness threshold is lesser than in the native acpi_video interface, the former allows to dim completely the screen with the corresponding gaining in power saving. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1104529 Title: Screen brightness does not work properly on samsung chronos 7 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1104529/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Gracias, por tan rapida respuesta y me tranquiliza saber que no es problema de seguridad, espero resolver pronto el fallo de reinicio constante de mi pc. Gracias nuevamente !!! 2013/4/5 Marc Deslauriers marc.deslauri...@canonical.com Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1165067] [NEW] Multiple monitor configuration fails in 13.04
Public bug reported: I just upgraded from 12.10 to 13.04 beta 2, and on reboot unity froze. After some trial and error, I was able to narrow it down to my dual- monitor configuration. Using the attached monitors.xml configuration, the display will freeze after logging in from lightdm. However, if I remove monitors.xml, then follow this process I can get a working dual-screen configuration for the session, that then breaks the next time I reboot. 1. Launch the Displays utility 2. Switch the HDMI1 (dell 22 monitor) off 3. Change the resolution from the default 1680x1050 on the HDMI3 monitor (samsung 23) to 1920x1080. - This causes the screen to become distorted, but you can still sort of see what's going on 4. Pick a lower resolution than 1920x1080 and apply it 5. Switch back to 1920x1080, this time it works 6. Turn the HDMI1 monitor back on, at it's default resolution At this point, the system is working with both monitors at their native resolution. This is some kind of regression from 12.10, since it worked fine there. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: Monitor configuration https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165067/+attachment/3623673/+files/monitors.xml -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1165067 Title: Multiple monitor configuration fails in 13.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1165067/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1124328] Re: *ERROR* failed to set mode on [CRTC:7]
There is a workaround for this issue which is to leave one of the monitors unplugged until after login. It's lame, but it will allow one to boot and then work within a multi-monitor setup. I get this error with Intel Video 4000 when driving two monitors via HDMI and VGA simultaneously. ** Description changed: X locks up periodically for a 2 to ten seconds at a time and this crash log gets generated. It's significantly more than several times a day but not quite continuous. Temporarily disabiling semaphores seems to eliminate the problem. E.g.: $ sudo -s # echo 0 /sys/modules/i915/parameters/semaphores [Workaround] 1. Edit your /etc/defaults/grub file. 2. Change this line: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=quiet splash i915.semaphores=0 3. Then run sudo update-grub 4. And reboot If you indeed have this bug, that should stop the lockups from happening. If it doesn't, then file a new bug report. + + Side Effects: Rendering throughput is dropped by 10% with SNA, or as + much as 3x with UXA. OpenGL performance is likely to be reduced by about + 30%. More CPU time is spent waiting for the GPU with rc6 disabled, so + increased power consumption. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 896922] Re: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds
For me it first appeared on quantal, it was absolutely fine before! Using Lenovo 3000 N100 Maybe it is a different bug and maybe its some consequenceof this one: It is as if windows were losing focus for the pointer. i can move and click, but the click would not have any effect, or affect the window behind. Could it be an Xorg problem aswell? temporary fix is to switch to virtual console and back, but it can happen up to multiple times within a minute which is quite nasty. Sometimes it clicks randomly, left right or center mouse-button (i.e. left and right at the same time) or makes the pointer jump visciously. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/896922 Title: Lenovo L520 - psmouse.c: touchpad at isa0060/serio4/input0 lost sync and stops working for seconds To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/896922/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
