[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168250] [NEW] guvcview crashed when changing resolution

2013-04-12 Thread sudodus
Public bug reported:

I was testing Lubuntu Nexus 7 session in a persistent live system.

First I noticed that it works with the built in camera :-)

Then I noticed that the default setting (to save a jpeg picture) creates
a bad picture file, that cannot be read by gpicview. Work-around: save a
png picture. I suggest that the default setting is changed until the
jpeg bug is fixed.

Finally a changed the resolution to 1280x720 which worked. But when I
changed back to the default 640x480, the program crashed the system and
sent me back to the log in screen.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1161088] Re: Computer freezes shortly (GUI) and sometimes freezes completely

2013-04-12 Thread Linus van Geuns
Situation is still the same with the current 12.04 kernel
(3.5.0-27.46~precise1):
With at least one VM (KVM) running, the system does not freeze, but the aport
GUI still pops up a few times a day.
Without any VM running, the system sometimes freezes completely..

There is a workaround that says the first RENDER command following use of
the BLT should be a non-pipelined command. To be safe, emit a MI_FLUSH
before setting up the invariants.

2013-04-12 Thread Alberto Milone
sudo amdconfig --initial -f should not be necessary as we
automatically load proprietary drivers without requiring a xorg.conf.

Furthermore, the Fglrx's alternative should override Mesa's unless the
alternative was manually set to the latter.

Can you please reproduce the problem and attach the output of the
following command?

update-alternatives --display x86_64-linux-gnu_gl_conf

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168182] [NEW] Dual monitors messed up on restart from latest (April 2013) Ubuntu kernel update

2013-04-12 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I updated 12.04 today, and it included some kernel updates and other
stuff. Dual monitors become compressed/recentered onto one monitor on
reboot. The only workaround seems to be to boot with only one monitor
connected and then plug in the second after Ubuntu has completed reboot.

Graphics card is an NVidia with dual DVI ports, processors is intel i7

Release is Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS release 12.04

What I expect to happen: Start normal

What happens instead: One monitor of dual monitor receives no signal,
the other appears to shift its normal display left half a screen,
leaving the right half filled with the purple Dalek polka dot Ubuntu
pattern.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1047156] Re: EDID does not allow LCD widescreen configuration

2013-04-12 Thread Chascon
I came across another fix, when changing the greeter stopped working.
For those who removed Unity, removing it sometimes uninstalls unity-
greeter and reinstalling it installs a whole lot of stuff some of which
fixed my low resolution issue. For some reason the other greeters don't
work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1095203] Re: low graphics mode

2013-04-12 Thread Chascon
My fix being reinstalling unity-greeter. It installs a whole lot of
stuff, one of which surely fixed my low resolution issue. For some
reason I can't list the other greeters in lightdm.conf as doing so gives
a low resolution message. So I'm stuck with unity-greeter, but at least
I can run lightdm rather than gdm, which is flaky.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 856312] Re: Can't use non-mirrored resolution with two monitors

2013-04-12 Thread Charlie Halford
Thanks for responding to this. Rather than close the issue, can we
either:

1) Track this as a bug with the fglrx drivers upstream or
2) Catch the error setting the virtual resolution and display a friendly error
message like Your video driver does not support extending your screen between
multiple monitors. Please use the vendor supplied settings application.
3) Do a check before enabling the toggle for mirrored screens. This would only
become enabled when a vendor supported dynamic front buffer reallocation

use, etc? When you get a black screen, is there anything still visible
(such as the cursor)?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168172] Re: manually set resolution but when unit sleeps or reboots resolution automatically reverts to default

2013-04-12 Thread Christopher Townsend
Hi Joey,

I doubt this is a Unity issue. However, I'm trying to determine how you
are setting your resolution. I see you are using the binary fglrx
driver from the Ubuntu archives, so are you using the Catalyst Control
Center or are you using the Displays settings in Ubuntu to set your
resolution?

At this time, I'm going to mark the Unity bug Invalid and file this bug
against the fglrx-installer package.

Thanks!

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1168172] Re: manually set resolution but when unit sleeps or reboots resolution automatically reverts to default

2013-04-12 Thread joey steadman
hello Christopher,
I was using the default driver at first but i have changed to 13.1 i think
it is, using catalyst installer I grabbed from here
http://www.noobslab.com/2013/04/install-ati-amd-catalyst-drivers-in.html. I
have seen the same issue with this proprietary driver as well. To change
settings, I just go to dash and type resolution to bring up the display
settings and change it from there. I then click apply and keep this
configuration. It's not a big issue,I just thought it odd. The 1600x900
looks more eye pleasing than default.
Thank you for the response, let me know if i can do anything. I am not an
expert by any means but will do what i can
Kind Regards
Joey

Oh,I meant to mention. While i was on the default driver, I came home to a
no booter. Some sort of low graphics error i couldnt get past for a while.
I had to go into recovery and play around in there to get it to boot up.
Just a fyi

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1165323] Re: russia

2013-04-12 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. Your
report should contain, at a minimum, the following information so we can
better find the source of the bug and work to resolve it.

Submitting the bug about the proper source package is essential. For
help see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . Additionally,
in the report please include:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System -
About Ubuntu.
2) The version of the package you are using, via 'dpkg -l PKGNAME | cat' or by
checking in Synaptic.
3) What happened and what you expected to happen.

The Ubuntu community has also created debugging procedures for a wide
variety of packages at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures .
Following the debugging instructions for the affected package will make
your bug report much more complete. Thanks!

to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1061790] Re: misbehaving X on quantal ppc w/ nvidia geforce fx go5200

2013-04-12 Thread Str8bs
Also present 20130412 PowerMac G5 (PPC64) NV34 GeForce FX5200 Ultra.
Both Lubuntu and Ubuntu splash screens display beautifully.
Ubuntu PPC desktop ISO gets to running in low graphics mode and then hangs
when selecting either low graphics mode or reconfigure graphics.
 Something with framebuffer hand off?
 /proc/fb shows nouveaufb at 0
Logs to come.

Upgrading from 0.2.906 to 0.3.0 causes the system to become unresponsive
(including SSH sessions). Reverting back to 0.2.906 works as expected.

Watching Xorg.0.log and dmesg during startx on remote via SSH with
tail did not create any output but I will provide what I can.

Attached is the complete Xorg.0.log. Although it mentions 0.2.906 I was
using 0.3.0 at the time of the log creation (unless somehow the log is
still from 0.2.906).

Please let me know if I am missing anything obvious and I will provide
it. I have no .xsession-errors file.

attempting to run with the new drm KMS driver. Is this true? Can you

Apparently no Xorg log is actually created with 0.3.0 upon startx and
then subsequent system freeze. Attached dmesg, but I'm not sure how
useful it will be since I can't startx and there is no mention of drm.

2013-04-12 Thread Str8bs
My G5 has a known phantom port so I am testing with video=TV-1:d
kernel parm. That was all that was needed to boot any live ISO prior to
12.10.

Lubuntu alternate ISO 20130412 GNU/Linux 3.8.0-7-powerpc64-smp ppc64

Unless otherwises stated, the forthcoming logs are booted with video=TV-1:d
drm.debug=0x4 plymouth:debug .
splash and quiet have been removed from yaboot appends.

Machine boots Lubuntu to black screen with blinking cursor in upper left
corner.
