[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993187] Re: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 576648] Re: package nvidia-* failed to install/upgrade: nvidia-* kernel module failed to build (Unable to determine the target kernel version.)
I haven't gotten any of the apt based nvidia packages to work with 3.8.0-19, even though the DKMS builds seemed to complete ok. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994]
Created attachment 78124 touch-fix.patch I have partial (full?) success (on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist, an Intel- based convertible, see also https://launchpad.net/bugs/1068994 and https://launchpad.net/bugs/1015183): I have rebuilt the current Ubuntu Raring package of xorg-server (1.13.3-0ubuntu5) with the following two patches: 1. http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~whot/xserver/commit/?h=touch-grab-race- condition-56578-v2id=0498a4f0e0b90a850df7022a3356f10adabff855 (found via comment #17) 2. http://lists.x.org/archives/xorg-devel/2013-April/035878.html and after that clicking via touch screen on the Lenovo Thinkpad Twist works reliably. Only remaining (minor) problems are (but the touch click ability does not get lost by them): a. In Chromium when you create a new tab, the new tab contains icons for web apps (at least the app store and perhaps some examples). These icons cannot be clicked by touch, only with a mouse. All the rest in Chromium is clickable by touch. b. Touch clicks do not work in XBMC, but after using and leaving XBMC with an external mouse on the normal desktop touch-clicking works again. These are probably separate bugs which got revealed by the now working touch click. Complete patch for xorg-server is attached. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068994 Title: button1 gets stuck after a while To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/oem-priority/+bug/1068994/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

ok, thanks to Maarten's debugging we've found the issue. listener-grab is not copied but rather referenced, leaving the grab stale once it was deleted. Reproducible test case is simply: XGrabButton() pointer-emulating touch down XUngrabButton() trigger touch update/end This doesn't necessarily crash, but once you run through valgrind to reset memory after freeing it we have a reliable crasher.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171848] [NEW] No possibility to operate Ambient Light Sensor on Latitude D830 because of kernel handles Fn-combination instead of BIOS
Public bug reported: According to Dell Latitude D830 manual, Fn and left-arrow key should activate the ambient light sensor, which controls brightness of the display based on light level in the current environment. I've checked it in WinPE and in GRUB - it works well. But in user account in my Kubuntu 13.04 Fn and left-arrow key returns: (XEV output) KeyPress event, serial 40, synthetic NO, window 0x401, root 0x103, subw 0x0, time 4948865, (162,-13), root:(164,45), state 0x0, keycode 201 (keysym 0x1008ffb1, XF86TouchpadOff), same_screen YES, XLookupString gives 0 bytes: XmbLookupString gives 0 bytes: XFilterEvent returns: False So, as we see, this is mistake and it should not return any code because it processes through BIOS and must switch on/of ambient light sensor to operate correctly according to laptop manual. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171832] Re: Xorg freeze
Please found here more details about of this bug : Unity freeze randomly when I am using firefox. It's always happen on particular website with lot of flash annimations or videos. I can't reproduce this bug, it is unpredictable. When it's happen, the mouse and the keyboard have no actions (you can still move the mouse but click doen't work). Notice that the sound are still playing ! If you don't know what to do, the only solution is an hard reboot. But you can still press ctrl+alt+F1 to reach a shell. Then you can safetly reboot by this way or try to fix the problem (Kill firefox does not solve the problem, the only way I found is to kill compiz and restart unity, but leave to a very slow and unstable system). This bug appeared more frequently on Ubuntu 12.04 than on ubuntu 12.10. But it never happenned on ubuntu 11.10. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171192] Re: Ubuntu 13.04 Beta 2- Intel HD Graphics 3000 - No screen
This is I what I did with the HP laptop's vga port and my Old Samsung CRT Monitor (http://reviews.cnet.com/crt-monitors/samsung-syncmaster- 591s-crt/4507-3175_7-31312643.html) following the directions on this video as an example for me (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9tHruGnmGjY). So I had a LED display and a CRT display. 1. Connected CRT VGA port to laptop VGA port. Turned on laptop and CRT display. 2. Grub Menu → Ubuntu. That is, booting Ubuntu as normal mode with this Boot options: linux /vmlinuz-3.8.0-16-generic root= . ro quiet splash -- vga=792 $vt_handoff 3. A graphical prompt login window appears on both LED and CRT displays. 4. Logged on. LED display turns off. CRT display shows Ubuntu graphical desktop. 5. On my HP laptop I pressed the F4 key to load the Display settings window with these options: ■ Laptop □ Samsung 14 □ Both displays cloned 6. Selected 'Both displays cloned': □ Laptop □ Samsung 14 ■ Both displays cloned. And both LED and CRT diplays show the Ubuntu desktop. 8. Executed $ dmesg file_on_usb_drive 9. Copied /var/log/Xorg.0.log to folder_on_usb_drive. 10. Copied /etc/default/grub to folder_on_usb_drive. 11. Searched on dmesg.log file for nomodeset text string but no matches were found. I've also tried triggering the buttons while cat-ing /dev/input/event* - None of them show any data coming from them. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to wacom-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098951 Title: like Bug #377444 but for ubuntu 12.04 : wacom buttons (rotate, journal, writer) are not detected To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wacom-tools/+bug/1098951/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1169004] Re: friendly-recovery: failsafeX dialog is completely unusable
You aren't the first to mention keyboard or mouse problems when using failsafeX, but the issue is not reproducible here. The failsafeX server doesn't enable or disable input devices, and there isn't any particular difference in how it handles them vs. standard X, although some daemon processes may not be running or certain gconf settings may not be in effect since this isn't a full desktop load. My guess is the issue is something peculiar with your hardware, like usb devices aren't getting enabled or some such. I would need to see Xorg.0.log and dmesg from a working session and a non-working session to compare, as a start. ** Changed in: xdiagnose (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xdiagnose in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1169004 Title: friendly-recovery: failsafeX dialog is completely unusable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xdiagnose/+bug/1169004/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()
I've dug into this issue to try to get a better backtrace from the crash. In the process I've determined that this is not a bug in qtwebkit per se. The crash happens before any calls are made into the qtwebkit library - the mere act of loading the nvidia libGL and calling its initializers is enough to trigger the crash. So the only relevant difference between qtwebkit 2.2.1 and 2.3.0 is that 2.3.0 is linked against libGL. It is exceedingly unlikely that anything in skype needs to /use/ the GL- based functionality of QtWebkit. Consequently, the proposed workaround to bypass the nvidia libGL by preloading the mesa libGL should be a safe and effective solution. ** Package changed: qtwebkit-source (Ubuntu Raring) = nvidia-graphics- drivers-304 (Ubuntu Raring) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1155327 Title: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-304/+bug/1155327/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1172092] [NEW] Have an nvidia titan GPU with 2560x1600 monitor. As soon as I enable the driver and reboot, X crashes with black screen
Public bug reported: Default fresh 13.04 install does not offer the nvidia drivers and doesn't recognize my monitor: It thinks I am running a laptop and offers me only the choice of either 800x600 or 1024x768 (yuk) 4:3 resolution when I have a 16:9 monitor. As soon as I install the nvidia drivers and reboot, bad things happen, I see a brief flash of purple then it hangs with a black screen. I was lucky to be able to get to the grub prompt and select the CLI where I uninstalled everything nvidia and was able to at least get back to a 1024x768 GUI. I was previously running 12.10 with an ATI HD5790 card which I had to replace due to a bad fan. It was previously able to detect this card and set my monitor to the correct resolution without any difficulty, and offered me the chance to install the closed source drivers.
