[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174335] Re: Second external monitor (over display port) not working anymore

** Description changed:

  Hello

I'm using a EliteBook Folio 9470 (Intel QM77 chipset with Intel HD
  Graphics 4000) and initially installed 13.04 beta2.

I used to work with 2 external monitors plugged in (one via VGA and the
  other one using a HP-DisplayPort-To-HDMI-adapter).

Everything worked properly (both displays using 1920x1080 resolution, laptop
lid closed); I used this config the last time on 2013-04-26. Some package
upgrades were performed in the meantime (I guess including the final release)
and this morning when trying to boot in this configuration again, the second
external monitor (via display port) is not recognized anymore.
The first external monitor (VGA) is still recognized and working as expected.

  xrandr output:

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 287215] Re: xmodmap settings not getting honored when keyboard devices are hotplugged

2013-05-01 Thread Micah Cowan
Continues to be a problem under 13.04. Running Xubuntu.

(Looked into using xkb, but oddly while it offers the option I desire,
to set capslock as an extra escape, it does not appear that it offers
the option to set escape as an extra capslock; at least, not that I
found documented in xkeyboard-config(7).)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174335] Re: Second external monitor (over display port) not working anymore

2013-05-01 Thread Matthias Winzeler
After using the laptop without the second external monitor yesterday,
today it suddenly worked again with both external monitors!

If I look at the xrandr-output, I see the monitor connected over an
HDMI3 device:

DP3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)

No updates seem to happen in the meantime... So maybe it is a question
of how to start up the laptop (with all monitors connected, with power
cable plugged in, ...).

However, I will attach the latest logs so that one might find the
difference...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-01 Thread mtvoid
Echoing #71, I have Intel graphics, and since upgrading to 13.04, Skype
segfaults on startup. This fix, which apparently works for those with
Nvidia graphics drivers, is ineffective. Skype still crashes for me with
intel graphics.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1175100] [NEW] Fullscreen windows switch screens in multi-screen mode

2013-05-01 Thread Tom Simnett
Public bug reported:

Fullscreen windows seem to arbitrarily switch which screen they sit on,
though I have found a way to replicate reliably.

My configuration is:

Laptop + external (larger) screen, with external screen automatically
set up as primary display by Nvidia settings autodetection.

I have chrome open with Twitter installed as a unity webapp and
therefore appearing in the message notification menu. I also have
workspaces enabled.

Chrome is in my top-left workspace, fullscreen on my laptop display. If
I'm working on my top right workspace and click the Twitter icon in the
message notification menu, and switch back to top-left, Chrome has
jumped to my external display (still full-screen) and now shows the
Twitter tab.

Other unity webapps open already perform in the same way, though if I'm
on the same workspace as Chrome, the window doesn't switch display.

Same problem with xorg-edgers repository. After a ppa-purge xorg-edgers,
it's now working... There must have been a very recent update that
solved the problem. Thanks for your work !

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1033253] Re: WebSphere Integration Developer 6.2 (Eclipse 3.4) - BPEL editor is slow for large windows

2013-05-01 Thread Rostislav Stříbrný
6.) SOLUTION - WORKAROUND 2:
After applying this workaround, BPEL rendering is fast again (in WID
6.2) and WID doesn't crash anymore.

Note: Workaround no. 1 used libxrender.so only. Now more (dependent)
libraries are also needed.

6.1) This patch is probably NOT needed:
Download: eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i.zip
URL:
http://git.eclipse.org/c/platform/eclipse.platform.swt.binaries.git/

Modify files in /opt/IBM/SDPShared/plugins:
org.eclipse.swt_3.4.2.v3453a.jar
- Delete all files in META-INF except MANIFEST.MF
- Remove all signature related tags (SHA-1) from
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.1.v3453a.jar
- Delete all files in META-INF except MANIFEST.MF
- Remove all signature related tags (SHA-1) from
META-INF/MANIFEST.MF
- Copy new *.so files from
eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i.zip
Path in ZIP:
eclipse.platform.swt.binaries-3453i/bundles/org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86/
  to root of
org.eclipse.swt.gtk.linux.x86_3.4.1.v3453a.jar

6.2) Use older library version (from oneiric = Ubuntu 11.10) for WID 6.2

export
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/IBM/WID62/__WID_problem/oneiric/usr/lib32:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

ls -lisa /opt/IBM/WID62/__WID_problem/oneiric/usr/lib32

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173491] Re: Boot to Safe Graphics after upgrade to Raring

2013-05-01 Thread Chris Wilson
The EDID for the display does not mention an 1440x900 mode, so it would
be very bizarre if it was its native mode. However, if you really,
really want to use 1440x900, then you will need to perform an xrandr
--newmode ...; xrandr --output HDMI2 --addmode ...; first.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@mtvoid: Does it work for you to use the quantal version of
libqtwebkit4?

@pools: What you describe should (in principle) not be possible.
Probably you can make it work by doing

  sudo apt-get install --reinstall libgl1-mesa-glx:i386

But before you try that, can you please clarify the problem by answering a
couple of questions:
* Did you install the latest version of both skype and skype-bin?
* What does the command 'dpkg -l libgl1-mesa-glx' output?
* Does 'ls /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/mesa' list any files?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1155327] Re: skype crashed with SIGSEGV in malloc@plt()

2013-05-01 Thread mtvoid
@gunnarhj: Yes, I also tried it with both libqtwebkit4 2.2.1 and 2.3.0.
Whatever was causing the problem, seemed to be from the upgrade of some
other package when upgrading to raring. Investigating further with gdb,
I found this:

Program received signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault.
0x08075f44 in malloc@plt ()
(gdb) bt
#0 0x08075f44 in malloc@plt ()
#1 0xb4f8a653 in g_malloc () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
#2 0xb4f8a92b in g_malloc_n () from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
#3 0xb4f93e10 in g_quark_from_static_string ()
   from /lib/i386-linux-gnu/libglib-2.0.so.0
#4 0xb5045822 in ?? () from /usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libgobject-2.0.so.0
#5 0xb7fed216 in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2
#6 0xb7fed2fc in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2
#7 0xb7fdf1df in ?? () from /lib/ld-linux.so.2

That indicated some issue with libglib2.0-0. I was using the latest
GNOME packages, including libglib 2.37.0 from the ricotz testing PPA. I
reverted it back to 2.36.0, and now Skype works again. The issue I was
facing was not related to libGL, and I have resolved it for now. But I
thought of pointing this out, because maybe Skype will still crash for
anybody running with a newer version of glib, irrespective of which
graphics driver they are running.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1173491] Re: Boot to Safe Graphics after upgrade to Raring

2013-05-01 Thread Nick Lib
Thanks for the advice, Chris! The --newmode/--addmode arguments will be
very useful. I do want to use that mode quite badly, as the display
represents all other resolutions I tried (of which there were many on
the older kernels) very badly.

I presently cannot remember on what basis I concluded that 14x9 was the
display's actual native resolution, so I can't claim I'm certain that
that is correct. However, I am quite certain that the actual native
resolution is not on the list of detected resolutions. I will try to
back my claims up with something solid (however, it will have to wait
till tomorrow, at least, as I am not presently near the system in
question).

I did try analysing the EDID data, using the read-edid tools from
http://www.polypux.org/projects/read-edid/ . The tools did complain that
there was something unexpected about the EDID data and that it was
probably bad. Thus I suspect that the EDID data is indeed bad and that
something changed about how faulty data is handled between kernel 3.7
and 3.8, causing the previously detected modes (of which there were many
more) to no longer be detected.

As for the additional logs of the working 14x9 mode: If you are still
interested in them, then I will be happy to try and produce/collect
them, when I get back to the affected system. I am not quite clear on
what you are after, though. If you are just interested in a set of logs
where the system successfully booted with light-dm switching to the 14x9
mode, then the original set of logs I uploaded seems to be what you are
looking for. In particular, you can see:

[+1.57s] DEBUG: Connecting to XServer :0
[+1.57s] DEBUG: Launching process 1674: xrandr --output HDMI2 --primary --mode
1440x900
[+2.59s] DEBUG: Process 1674 exited with return value 0
[+2.59s] DEBUG: Exit status of xrandr --output HDMI2 --primary --mode 1440x900: 0
[+2.59s] DEBUG: Starting greeter

That just shows that it didn't mind using the mode in question on kernel
3.7 (at least on RC8). However, I suspect that you were after something
more specific. If so, please let me know.

Thanks for all your help, Chris!

2.6.32-279.el6.i686 - the behaviour you have here is not an artifact of
our driver as the LVDS is always reported as connected unless you
manually override that behaviour by telling it to use the lid status.
Please try reproducing with an upstream kernel.

I don't think it is a kernel thing.

In any case, I've updated my kernel over CentOs to the last version :
vmlinuz-2.6.32-358.2.1.el6.i686 ant the same results. ( log is attached
)

I've also tested other enviroments with newer kernels and happen the
same:

Fedora Core 17 i686 : xorg-x11-drv-intel 2.19.0-1 / kernel 3.3.4-5
Fedora Core 18 i686 : xorg-x11-drv-intel 2.20.19-2 / kernel 3.6.10-4

It happesns the same : LVDS1 repostes as disconnect on plug an VGA
monitos

Also the vesa driver shows on LVDS1 and VGA1 a perfectly cloned desktop.
Without disconnect LVDS1 display. Unlikely for oue propouses vesa driver is a
very basic one, no extended desktop included.

I wanna focus on the hardware : is a Panel PC, not a laptop!! and acpi
even don't create /proc/acpi/button/lid directory! this is why I think
there is some problem into the understanding between ACAPI and Inter
Driver. Intel drives could not report the right lid status and LVDS1 is
disconnected by the drives when other option like VGA is available.

2013-05-01 Thread Kalsan
Watch out! Unity stopped working for me! I had to log off, get on the GNOME
fallback, install the AMD driver again and reboot. Now Unity works again but
skype is crashing again too...
Now I can choose between Unity and skype but not both at the same time...
Anybody experiencing similar problems?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] Re: System crashes with open-source radeon driver

2013-05-01 Thread Tournier Mathieu
Yes, I also have a Dell XPS 1640, if that still doesn't work for you, I don't
understand why it is solved for me. Have you tried an apt-get upgrade ? Very
strange...
Before this was solved this was my temporary solution :
https://launchpad.net/~makson96/+archive/fglrx
I hope it will help you, but this problem stays with the opensource driver
(eventhough I don't know why it's now working for me).

2013-05-01 Thread Lars Kumbier
From the Xorg.0.log, you do have the small non-RGBLED-Display, which is
Not Full-HD? This might be the difference to mine.

Thanks for the tip with the downgrade-ppa, I'll test it later on. There
still might be something left on your system from this ppa. Could you
verify the appended list of package versions via 'dpkg -l|grep xserver-
xorg'?

the click out of the current window never seems to register. This leaves
the current app in focus. I also can't use the keyboard to change focus.
The interesting thing is some apps seem to keep responding to the mouse
when it was currently focused. Other apps (Chrome in particular) don't
respond. I guess its something to do with how they are structured from
an X perspective.

I have found a work around switching to one of the other consoles via
the Ctrl Alt F Keys then switching back. The system then works
perfectly, however it will have the same issue a few minutes later.

It seems to happen at startup frequently 50% roughly of the time it will
look up in the first minute after booting. After that it happens every
20 minutes or so. Can't find any pattern to when it happens. It seems to
happen at random and doesn't seem to matter which app has focus.

I know its not a Compiz or Unity bug (as I originally thought) as Gnome
Shell has the same issue. So as far as I can tell it means it must be an
issue with Xorg itself.

This originally occurred after an upgrade to 12.10. However 13:04
suffers the same issue. I have also done a reinstall of 12.10 which
exhibits the same issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] Re: System crashes with open-source radeon driver

2013-05-01 Thread Tournier Mathieu
This bug occurs randomly (but it is very frequent). I have the problem
again : GPU lockups during startup that result in a black screen after
boot process. I think all people that have a xps 1640 with HD 3670 have
the same problem...

-- kernel: 3.9.0-rc8
-- Linux distribution: Fedora 19
-- Machine or mobo model: Intel i3570K with HD4000
-- Display connector: VGA, single display

Reproducing steps:
From within SuperTuxKart, ensure that resolution is set to 1920x1080,
graphics detail level is set to 7 and Vertical Sync is set to ON,
Use Framebuffer Objects is set to ON, and full screen is set to ON.
About 10% of the time, when running the game with these settings, the
GPU hangs and occasionally after that Xorg crashes.
The hang can happen in the menu system or within the actual game.
When the hang occurs, the graphics may update very slowly or periodically
and then eventually it stops updating at all.

Additional info:
I'm not 100% sure, but I think it may have started after setting
Vertical Sync to ON.
After one of the crashes, I managed to capture the system log, the
Xorg log, and the i915_error_state. Unfortunately I was not running
with drm.debug=14.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1174042] Re: System crashes with open-source radeon driver

2013-05-01 Thread Lars Kumbier
I can reproduce the problem every single time, so it might have
something to do with the resolution or dependent things like the used
graphic memory or the bandwidth... Do you have the amd64 version of
ubuntu or the i386? If your system did boot up correctly, do you get the
problem during the normal, daily usage or does it just occur during the
boot process? Does the problem start right after the grub-menu or during
the switch to the lightdm greeter?

For me, it's amd64 and the lockup always is during transition to the
lightdm greeter. I've changed the status to confirmed due to two people
being affected.

This issue blocks me to enjoy my new keyboard which has ZOOMIN/OUT and

I have read through this thread. It seems we are facing manpower issues
to get it fixed. I'd like to try to help on this if I can get mentor
from you guys.

Another idea is about getting keycode 255 by Xi2. Is this could be
considered a shortcut to avoud protocol breaking. Shall we give a try on
it?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1172937] Re: [snb rc6] freeze upon mmio write

2013-05-01 Thread tobias
Hi,

issue is not there anymore since i upgraded to the latest beta (uefi) bios u1l
supplied by gigabyte. have been running stable now for a few days:
tobias@jodocus:~$ dmesg | grep drm
[0.650973] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[0.665782] [drm] Memory usable by graphics device = 2048M
[0.691975] [drm] Supports vblank timestamp caching Rev 1 (10.10.2010).
[0.691975] [drm] Driver supports precise vblank timestamp query.
[1.426282] fbcon: inteldrmfb (fb0) is primary device
[1.792759] [drm] Enabling RC6 states: RC6 on, RC6p on, RC6pp off
[1.922773] i915 :00:02.0: fb0: inteldrmfb frame buffer device
[1.923393] [drm] Initialized i915 1.6.0 20080730 for :00:02.0 on minor 0
So all looks good from my perspective.
One other item worth mentioning is that i dual boot win7 / ubuntu and that win7
did not show stability problems with the old F12 bios.
but: as mentioned above for me problem is solved now...

best regards,

Tobias,

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994]

2013-05-01 Thread Till Kamppeter
Another touch problem: If I run Chromium browser and try to drag and
drop one of the tabs using the touch screen, the left button gets stuck
down and it does not get even unstuck if I continue working with the
external Bluetooth mouse. I can only kill the session.

It also happens sometimes that X crashes but without any message in
/var/log/syslog.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994]

2013-05-01 Thread Till Kamppeter
Daniel, on my 1.14 I do not see any problem, also when testing with xev.
Both with the external mouse and my finger on the touch screen I see
ButtonPress events when I press and hold the mouse button or when I put
my finger onto the screen and I get ButtonRelease events when I release
the mouse button or take my finger from the screen. This works all
correctly for me.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068994]

2013-05-01 Thread Till Kamppeter
I have more experience with the onboard-aided right click (same running
under Val;grind or without Valgrind):

Touch-clicking the right-click key on onboard makes it turning grey.
After that doing one touch click on the desktop background does nothing.
A second touch click on the background makes the right-click menu open
and onboard disappear.

Right-clicking in Chromium does not work. The second click only makes
onboard disappear but does not pop up the right-click menu of Chromium.
