[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197193] Re: akonadi dead
I saw this but... Even if I knew what database was corrupted (and where it was), what would I do with the data once the tables had been dumped? I mean it isn't apparent that I would be able to reconstruct the akonadi databases in any meaningful way to get kmail and kpim working again with my data. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1197193 Title: akonadi dead To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/1197193/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1189645] Re: General lag under desktop environments
Let's start off with the basics: Xorg.0.log, dmesg and a system profile of what is happening when it is slow. And narrow down the complaint, for instance are the measurements you made in parallel with other system activity or after you shut them down? Also please do try running these tests with a non-OpenGL compositor (i.e. not unity or gnome-shell) to rule out the lack of acceleration from mesa being a limiting factor. ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu Saucy) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1189645 Title: General lag under desktop environments To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1189645/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197245] Re: Xorg freeze
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. There are couple of things to note here. Firstly, the web page that you are trying to access is very long and resource heavy with the multiple Flash adverts and javascript codes. It hangs (ie. the screen gets darker) my Firefox too but Firefox becomes responsive after a while. Perhaps you could provide feedback to the author of the website and tell them that the pages in the website should be less resource heavy. Secondly, the log files show that the driver for your laptop's touchpad gets unloaded. The reason for it is unclear but it explains why your system is so unresponsive and difficult to control. Finally, it is clear from this and your other bug reports that there is definitely a crash in the graphics system in your computer. This issue seems to be worsened with any resource heavy applications or websites. I am leaving this report open for now but it might be classified later as a duplicate of bug 1191334. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1189645] Re: General lag under desktop environments
Ok, triggered issue running Lubuntu. Ran GtkPerf on a freash startup with no other apps running. Started Firefox, browsed news sites (guardian, bbc). Started Totem, played local video. Started Evince, opened local PDF form which triggered the issue. Vidoe slows down and gets out of sync with audio. Moving desktop windows around becomes really slow. PDF scrolling is also very slow. Opening other sites in Firfox takes a long long time to load and script heavy pages pop up constant unresponsive script warnings. Shut down Firefox, Totem, Evince. They are slow to respond to clicking on the X. Ran GtkPerf again. Noticiably slower in everything. Before, Total time: 8.91 After, Total time: 67.49 Again, this is all under Lubuntu, not Unity or Gnome Shell. ** Attachment added: Test result under Lubuntu https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1189645/+attachment/3723028/+files/GtlPerf-Lubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1189645 Title: General lag under desktop environments To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1189645/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

That rules out the obvious causes such as GPU hangs. Is that reproduction script as simple as you can make it? i.e. does just loading firefox and browsing a single website enough to bring the system to its knees, or just totem etc? Can you please 'apt-get install linux-tools xserver-xorg-core-dbg xserver-xorg-video-intel-dbg libpixman-1-0-dbg' (and probably a host more dbg difficult to tell what's going to be required) and then tell me what is consuming the most time in 'sudo perf top'. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171666] [NEW] xserver-xorg-core not installed on update from 12.04 to 12.10
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I installed 12.04 LTS on 2013-04-18, and everything was running fine. I updated to 12.10 Quantal on 2013-04-21 and once the upgrade was complete, I rebooted. Bug: 1. Upon reboot, I couldn't get past the Ubuntu loading screen (never got to login, went to a black screen instead). 2. I rebooted again and this time I pressed ESC to get to the console and logged in the console 3. I tried startx and it failed with No Screen Found 4. I looked at /var/log/xorg.0.log and found that it was trying to load a bunch of modules intel, vesa, and a few others... seems like it was trying to find a drivers to load but couldn't find any. At the bottom of the log it gave up with No Drivers Available or something. Workaround: 5. I found that I had a bunch of xserver-*-lts-quantal packages, and I thought those weren't supposed to be there so I apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel and it replaced the xserver-*-lts-quantal packages with just xserver-xorg. 6. Rebooted, and the problem was gone (X started fine). So everything is working now, but I thought I'd file this somewhere since I had a very stock install (~3 days old) and it seems like it failed to update xserver packages during the 12.04-12.10 upgrade. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171666] Re: xserver-xorg-core not installed on update from 12.04 to 12.10
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected compiz-0.9 raring ubuntu ** Description changed: I installed 12.04 LTS on 2013-04-18, and everything was running fine. So everything is working now, but I thought I'd file this somewhere since I had a very stock install (~3 days old) and it seems like it failed to update xserver packages during the 12.04-12.10 upgrade. apport information ** Attachment added: xdpyinfo.txt https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171666/+attachment/3723533/+files/xdpyinfo.txt ** Description changed: I installed 12.04 LTS on 2013-04-18, and everything was running fine. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197193] Re: akonadi dead
I've resorted to deleting everything in my home directory containing akonadi once all the directories were gone stuff started to work again. I had to reconfigure kmail to find my mail folders and I think I've lost my calender (since I'm using it as a front end for google calender I think I can get most of this back).
