[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1199629] [NEW] Stuck injust one monitor resolution
Public bug reported: About me - aka the user | Not a very savy Ubuntu user but on a learning curve :) Connectivity: Out of the DVI connection of the NVIDIA card (the only video card present on the desktop) using a DVI to HDMI cable going to one of the HDMI ports of a 55 Samsung LED TV. Historic: * fresh installation of 13.04; * latest updates installed; * latest NVIDIA driver installed. Also confirmed as being installed with sudo /sbin/lsmod | grep nvidia * different configuration adjustements attempted in xorg.conf * after reading multiple forum threds, used other troubleshooting tools like get-edid, xrandr; That's it. Hoping for a resolution. Thank you Rares ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-26.38-generic 3.8.13.2 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-26-generic i686 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia .proc.driver.nvidia.gpus.0: Error: [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/proc/driver/nvidia/gpus/0' .proc.driver.nvidia.registry: Binary: .proc.driver.nvidia.version: NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 304.88 Wed Mar 27 14:31:12 PDT 2013 GCC version: gcc version 4.7.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.7.3-1ubuntu1) .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.1 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Wed Jul 10 01:48:12 2013 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: raring DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: nvidia-304-updates, 304.88, 3.8.0-26-generic, i686: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: I just need to know a workaround GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation NV43 [GeForce 6600 LE] [10de:0142] (rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1042069] Re: Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 (+X230t) Touchpad
I've used a Thinkpad Edge E220S before, and I don't believe the problem mentioned in comment #14 is the same. It's the direct opposite, actually. The Edges have hyper-sensitive touchpads that move the cursor even when your finger is stationary. Increasing the V/H-Hysteresis stabilizes the pointer and makes the touchpad really nice to use. Conversely, the X230 has a touchpad that feels like it has really low sensitivity -- shift your finger a bit, and the pointer doesn't budge, but move your finger a bit more, and the pointer jumps a couple of pixels. The configuration in comment #5 appears to make the cursor less jumpy, though still visibly jerky, but causes the pointer to move overly slow. Additionally, something feels a bit off when moving diagonally, so I've commented out the Vert/Horiz-Resolution lines. With some further tweaking of the values, this is what I have come up with: Section InputClass Identifier touchpad MatchProduct SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad MatchTag lenovo_x230_all Driver synaptics # fix touchpad resolution # Option VertResolution 100 # Option HorizResolution 65 # disable synaptics driver pointer acceleration Option MinSpeed 1 Option MaxSpeed 1 # tweak the X-server pointer acceleration Option AccelerationProfile 2 Option AdaptiveDeceleration 1000 Option ConstantDeceleration 16 Option VelocityScale 30 Option AccelerationNumerator 30 Option AccelerationDenominator 10 Option AccelerationThreshold 10 EndSection You'll need to either add the udev rule from comment #13 or comment out the MatchTag line to get this to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1042069 Title: Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 (+X230t) Touchpad To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1042069/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1018241] Re: Kernel panic with ppp and keyspan usa-19hs
No one has looked at this yet, but I should probably let you know that the serial cable was broken. I didn't have time to test what the state of each line was when this kernel panic occurs, I just replaced the serial cable and I have had no problems for several weeks. However, I would consider this kernel panic a bug. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1199959] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: I am following this link: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Troubleshooting/BlankScreen This seems to only happen after I switched to UEFI booting from normal booting on the same computer with the same hardware and same OS version. The problem (I think) is happening in step 6. I don't think this is an xorg bug but I don't know what package this goes with. Every so often I will turn on my computer, it will boot, and not display a splash screen. I changed boot parameters in /etc/default/grub to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=drm.debug=0x4 plymouth:debug It will boot and display a mess of startup text like normal. It will then pause for a second, the text on the screen will change (I think it is switching resolutions), it will flicker and die. I get a black but active screen. The LED on the monitor doesn't denote inactivity but active and black. Here is the output of /var/log/plymouth-debug.log. I turned on debugging and had to reboot 4 times before the screen wasn't black. This bug is almost always reproducible. Oh, of more interesting note, I added nomodeset to the startup but that played havoc with unity. I had a gray or black bar on the left section of the screen where the application bar hides and nothing could overwrite it fully. I could have a cursor light up a few characters in this section but withdrawing the window from this section turned it back to solid gray. However, it did boot flawlessly. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1200074] [NEW] High CPU usage and unresponsivness when hotplugging a mouse
Public bug reported: In both XUbuntu 13.04 and 13.10 Xorg will spike to 100% CPU usage for around 15 seconds whenever I hotplug a USB mouse. In this time not only is the CPU used fully, Xorg itself also becomes non-responsive, the mouse pointer itself, even from the newly plugged in mouse, will move just fine, but focus changes and button presses won't be registered until 15 seconds later. When I look with xev at the events at that time I will see around 4000 lines of this: MappingNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 10, count 1 MappingNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 10, count 1 MappingNotify event, serial 37, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 10, count 1 MappingNotify event, serial 750, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 218, count 1 [...] MappingNotify event, serial 750, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 218, count 1 MappingNotify event, serial 750, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingKeyboard, first_keycode 218, count 1 MappingNotify event, serial 750, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingModifier, first_keycode 0, count 0 MappingNotify event, serial 750, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingModifier, first_keycode 0, count 0 Some applications, most noticably xfce4-volumed, will themselves spike in CPU usage as a return to Xorg doing it and prolong the problem up to multiple minutes. But as the problem happens even without them running they don't seem to be the cause of it. ** Affects: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1200074 Title: High CPU usage and unresponsivness when hotplugging a mouse To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/1200074/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
