Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1120245] Re: A program is still running: Unknown Not responding.
Yes I've done some experimental work...I'm running Windows Xp and Ubuntu on the machine but I guess this should not cause any problem. And yes I've tried to setup Ubuntu to run Windows applications from Ubuntu but failed several times. It doesn't matter if I close all applications or, not the msgbox is always there. So you see it's my own lack of knowledge that is causing the problem. I guess the easiest way, even if it doesn't solve the root cause, is to reinstall a new Ubuntu package. Yes I will backup important contents first. I think you can close this issue. Thanks for your great support and dedication! All the best! Per-Erik 2013/8/2 Alan Pater alan.pa...@gmail.com Try to identify which application is still running through the process of elimination. Have you installed any extra applications, or are you using the ones which came installed? Does it happen all the time, or only after running a certain application? [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1207846] [NEW] Xorg uses max CPU after drm:i915_hangcheck_hung
Public bug reported: Hi guys, apprently my box overheats under high load with more-than-moderate environment temperatures, which triggers the kernel (correctly!) to throttle the CPU. Apparently, this throttling (or some data transfer/DRM issue?) causes the GPU to hang/lose communication (kernel bug? see dmesg. MCE is just talking about temparature recovery), which causes Xorg to misbehave. Both displays go black (from top to bottom, one after another), and come back again, and after that everything is horribly slow, Xorg uses 90something% of the CPU, and otherwise everything seems fine. Switchtig to a VT is bearible and stops Xorg from using CPU, killing it makes lightdm bring it up again and everything is seemingly fine. Same behaviour repeats soon unless load conditions are relaxed. So, this might be two bugs: one for the kernel to let the GPU hang / don't handle this more smartly; one for Xorg to start consuming CPU like crazy after this happened. Please link this bug to the proper packages, and maybe link it to other i915_hangcheck bugs, too. Cheers, count ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-26.38-generic 3.8.13.2 Uname: Linux 3.8.0-26-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8.1 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, compiztoolbox, decor, resize, snap, grid, gnomecompat, place, regex, vpswitch, imgpng, session, mousepoll, unitymtgrabhandles, move, animation, workarounds, wall, fade, scale, expo, ezoom, unityshell] CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Fri Aug 2 19:31:27 2013 DistUpgraded: 2013-05-04 19:48:39,692 DEBUG enabling apt cron job DistroCodename: raring DistroVariant: ubuntu DpkgLog: ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0126] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:21da] MachineType: LENOVO 42914BG MarkForUpload: True ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/vmlinuz-3.8.0-26-generic root=/dev/mapper/encrypted-root ro splash crashkernel=384M-2G:64M,2G-:128M quiet splash pcie_aspm=force vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to raring on 2013-05-04 (89 days ago) dmi.bios.date: 12/01/2011 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: 8DET56WW (1.26 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 42914BG dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: Not Available dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvr8DET56WW(1.26):bd12/01/2011:svnLENOVO:pn42914BG:pvrThinkPadX220:rvnLENOVO:rn42914BG:rvrNotAvailable:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 42914BG dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X220 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.9~daily13.06.19~13.04-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs 20090808ubuntu36 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.43-0ubuntu1.1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 9.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 9.1.3-0ubuntu0.3 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.7.3-0ubuntu2b2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.1.0-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.21.6-0ubuntu4 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.7-0ubuntu1 xserver.bootTime: Fri Aug 2 19:29:09 2013 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.version: 2:1.13.3-0ubuntu6 xserver.video_driver: intel ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 i915 performance raring ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1207846 Title: Xorg uses max CPU after drm:i915_hangcheck_hung To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1207846/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1207846] Re: Xorg uses max CPU after drm:i915_hangcheck_hung
It is just one bug, something hangs the GPU forcing us to use expensive fallbacks. Everything following the hang is us trying to keep the system ticking over with a dead GPU. To work out what is hanging the GPU, we need the /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New = Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1207846 Title: Xorg uses max CPU after drm:i915_hangcheck_hung To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1207846/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
