[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2013-09-10 Thread Daniel Arteaga
In my case freezes become more infrequent and shorter (but they do not
disappear) when I remove the tracker package, so I believe it is somehow
linked to hard disk access.

I'm using the Radeon driver:

VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] RV610
[Radeon HD 2400 PRO/XT]

I haven't seen a link to the sound so far.

No susupicious messages in the Xorg logs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1216472] Re: [xmir] [multimonitor] Frames eventually get slightly out of order, look like glitches or typing will feel slow

2013-09-10 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Also affects the intel DDX.

I keep finding myself tracing this bug into the Intel SNA code, which I
don't yet understand. The issue seems to occur on frames where not-
quite-all outputs are dirty, so sna_xmir_copy_to_mir() is only called
for some of them (but not all).

The bug goes away if I ensure sna_xmir_copy_to_mir() is called for all
outputs. So this seems to suggest that the Intel SNA code is keeping
track of frames/buffers and expecting a precise number of kgem_submit's,
which of course doesn't always happen with multimonitor.

however, you might notice that there are no capitol letters in the

when i press shift to make a capitol letter, the application and

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1223332] Re: [sandybridge-m-gt2] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7a000002

2013-09-10 Thread Curtis Hovey
I discovered that ShiftClear was mapped to the open-indicators
action in dconf, preventing me from ever using the Shift key. I changed
the value to SuperClear -- crippling unity because Super became the
show menu key. I remove all values to get some sense of normalcy back. I
believe that xmodemap is being ignored. The right Super and right alt
were mapped the Menu and Clear. This is no longer so according to xev.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 342926] Re: No PCI IOMEM space available below 4GB

2013-09-10 Thread TJ
I did some work upstream but it became too complicated. Others have also
tried but nothing has changed. In the meantime the hardware out there
that has a 32-bit limit imposed by its southbridge on 64-bit CPUs is all
now old legacy gear so I don't foresee the kernel fixing this, ever.

It still remains a problem for the hardware out there still in use where
the user wants to install and use the maximum RAM possible but the
32-bit limitation prevents the PCIOMEM addresses being remapped above
the 4GB boundary.

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete = Triaged

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1222203] Re: [gm45] False GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x02000004

2013-09-10 Thread Chris Wilson
Hopefully I've identified the correct issue:

commit 9a66d77efa53cff83e9711786c39e8ebff8dd26d
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Tue Sep 10 12:29:24 2013 +0100

sna: Disable use of Y-tiling for gen4

This problematic GPU still seems to like to fallover when faced with
Y-tiling. It was reserved only for use with glyphs, but even that
occasionally runs into trouble, so disable all selection of Y-tiling for
our own use.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1213338] Re: Displaylink slow graphic performance on Ubuntu 13

2013-09-10 Thread Chris Wilson
The issue here is that compiz prefers pageflips (quite rightly for igfx)
which for udl means that we need to push the entire display over the
slow usb link (and requiring a slow readback) on each update (instead of
just the damaged region) -- a write magnification issue.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2013-09-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
@James:

right, we still need to change other components, I've tagged the
verification-done because the only piece up for verification at the
moment is libx11 and you verified that one, getting it in updates would
put us one step closer from fixing the issue right?

Additionally, this requires a revert of xkeyboard-config that we have in
-proposed. I'm not sure how to work that because this is my first
verification-failed bug, but I assume I can just revert it.

Do you need revert or extra changes? in any case the update is in
precise-updates so you can't verification-failed it anymore (that's just
used to get things dropped from proposed/not copied to updates), you
need another upload on top of the current version

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 408903] Re: Does not handle microphone mute button (KEY_MICMUTE)

2013-09-10 Thread James M. Leddy
Sebastien,

Thanks for flipping the tag. As noted in comment #108 , we still need
backports of udev, gnome-settings-daemon, and xkeyboard-config to close
this bug out. Additionally, this requires a revert of xkeyboard-config
that we have in -proposed. I'm not sure how to work that because this is
my first verification-failed bug, but I assume I can just revert it.

https://code.launchpad.net/~jm-leddy/ubuntu/precise/xkeyboard-
config/micmute

We have two vendors in addition to Lenovo that have added micmute keys
since this bug has been opened, and we're shipping 12.04 as the standard
for all oem builds. So this bug has a higher priority now.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1212736] Re: Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android

2013-09-10 Thread Till Kamppeter
Also note that the right-click emulation of Universal Access only
reveals the right-click menu after releasing the button, whereas under
Android or Windows 8 the menu already pops up while long pressing. The
latter gives the user the feedback that he has pressed long enough, and
as it is also established as standard (two other operating systems use
it) we should do it this way.

** Summary changed:

- Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under Android
+ Touch screen: Right click should be emulated by long press, like under

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Twist convertible ultrabook (Intel Core i7).

+ The tablet mode (touchscreen-only operation, keyboard folded away) gets
  continuously working better.

One important missing feature is an easy-to-do right click. The right-
click emulation button in Onboard is a rather awkward solution, as
Onboard only shows up when selecting a text input field.

I suggest to emulate the right-click by a long press on the screen. It
is done in Android this way, too, and works very well for me.

Note that the long-press right-click functionality in Universal Access
in the Control Center only works with a mouse and not with the touch
  screen (another bug).

I am using Saucy 64-bit and the standard Unity desktop.

2013-09-10 Thread Alan Pope ㋛
I filed the duplicate of this bug 161 as I get this frequently on
both my i7 laptop and i7 desktop.

I think I found a way to reproduce it easily on demand. Open chromium,
and visit google maps. Sign up for new maps. Visit somewhere on the
map and zoom all the way in then zoom in and out a bit. I have triggered
this bug a few times just by doing that. I'm not using dual screens or
anything funky. Just a basic Ubuntu 13.10 install with Unity.
