[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1246991] [NEW] Xorg crashes on dual AMD/Intel Ivybridge setup
Public bug reported: Xorg segfaults right after loading the radeonSI module and initializing glamor if I have xserver-xorg-video-radeon installed. To get it working again I had to use my Ivybridge graphics exclusively and blacklist the radeon kernel module. Attached is the Xorg.0.log up until the error. I know the xserver-xorg- video-radeon package is newer, but I saw the same thing occurring with Ubuntu's default version. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: the error log https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246991/+attachment/3897371/+files/XorgErrorRadeonSI.log -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1246991 Title: Xorg crashes on dual AMD/Intel Ivybridge setup To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1246991/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1247043] [NEW] RadeonHD Southern Islands text rendering glitch
Public bug reported: 3D rendering landed recently for Southern Islands cards. However there are some rendering glitches that happen rarely. The most common of these is text rendering glitch in Firefox. What happens is that every now and then a letter is drawn incorrectly. It may be drawn as (semi)random pixels or a zoomed part of some other piece of text. On redraw (triggered by e.g. pgup + pgdown) the text is drawn correctly. Attached is an image showing the corruption. It is taken with a camera, because trying to do a screengrab forces a redraw which clears the error. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade
@vuanomarco and @niniendowarior Until upgrading to 13.10 everything worked fine for me - even with an external monitor attached to my dell inspiron 7520 (with a radeon hd 7700m series card). After the upgrade I got a black screen after logging into unity and was able track it back to this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz/+bug/1054257 (compiz opengl plugin crashes with Fatal: glXQueryExtensionsString is NULL for screen 0 message). I have no idea why it suddenly cropped up. I even reinstalled the entire system to see whether it changes anything, all to no avail. Right now I am running on an UEFI install with GPT partition table and this last problem might be connected to that (although AMD claims to have added UEFI support to their driver), but I can't be sure, because I had the blank screen problem before reformatting the hard disk. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1068404 Title: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1068404/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1243642] Re: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start
Hi, Ryan gave me a hint, how to find a workaround without using ~/.Xmodmap. I describe the solution of my specific problem here, so it might be helpful for someone with a similar problem. These links helped a lot: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Howto%3A%20Custom%20keyboard%20layout%20definitions http://www.charvolant.org/~doug/xkb/html/node5.html To use the special € and $ keys of the acer laptop in 13.10: 1. add the scancode-to-keycode mappings to /etc/rc.local # Euro setkeycodes e033 240 # Dollar setkeycodes e034 241 loadkeys /home/user/.acer.map 2. create the keyboard translation table extension in /home/user/.acer.map containing: keycode 240 = euro shift keycode 240 = cent keycode 241 = dollar shift keycode 241 = onequarter 3. add the xbd_symbols to the symbol definition file you use, e.g.: /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/de // acer Euro und Dollar Spezialtasten key I248 { [ EuroSign, cent ] }; key I249 { [dollar, onequarter ] }; 4. optional, if you like to see the keys in the graphical represenation of the keyboard, change the appropriate section in the geometry definition file you use, e.g. /usr/share/X11/xkb/geometry/pc section Editing { top= 61; left= 312; row { top= 1; key.color= grey20; keys { INS, HOME, PGUP }; }; row { top= 20; key.color= grey20; keys { DELE, END, PGDN }; }; row { top= 58; keys { I248, { UP, color= grey20 } , I249 }; }; row { top= 77; key.color= grey20; keys { LEFT, DOWN, RGHT }; }; }; // End of Editing section And now I'm able to switch the keyboard layouts using gnome-control-center region layouts, too, withour loosing the € or $ key of the acer laptop again. cheers Dirk -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1243642 Title: .Xmodmap not automatically loaded on start To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1243642/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1068404] Re: Low graphics mode in muxless hybrid ATI/Intel GPU systems after fglrx upgrade
@niniendowarrior:if you want to try the new dynamic power management on the open source drivers you should add radeon.dpm=1 to the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT line on the /etc/default/grub file and then run sudo update-grub as specified on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver You should probably also set the CPUfreq governor to Performance if you need the maximum performance from the open source drivers(you can use the cpufreq-set command or install the indicator-cpufreq indicator). @kpijarski: if you're using the drivers from the official Ubuntu repositories, I suggest you to file a new bug here on Launchpad (using ubuntu-bug should help you somewhat). If you are instead using the drivers from AMD site you should file a bug on the unofficial ATI bugzilla (http://ati.cchtml.com/). I think you should also try the open source drivers, installing the glamor-egl package if it is not already instaled and eventually enabling dynamic power management (follow the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RadeonDriver, which should be the same as the one I suggested above), and see if the problem persists.
