[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.
Looking further it seems that the root cause is that the CIRRUS driver cannot be used in 12.04.3 because of this [ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: The PCI device 0xb8 at 00@00:02:0 has a kernel module claiming it. [ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: This driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded. It seems that this is caused by the DRM driver: [ 579.639] (II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0) [ 579.642] (--) PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 1013:00b8:1af4:1100 rev 0, Mem @ 0xfc00/33554432, 0xfebf/4096, BIOS @ 0x/65536 The DRM driver is not presend/loaded in Ubuntu 12.04.2. Subsequently the CIRRUS module loads fine and the graphic is working as expected. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1250063] [NEW] nvidia-173 doesn't work on Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy Salamander
Public bug reported: My nvidia graphic card is GeForce 6150SE nForce 430. In past only nvidia 173 drivers worked correctly. Nor 304 or others (like nouveau). After a fresh new installation of Ubuntu 13.10 I open Software Sources (software-properties-gtk) and in tab Additional Drivers I select the only one driver called nvidia-173. Later the first reboot, everything seems working good, but after turning it off and on again 2 more times, everythings black! Only an underscore blinking in the upper left. I tried CTRL+ALT+F!, etc. combinations but nothing happens. I suspect this problem happens after some Nvidia drivers updates. Now I use gnome-session-fallback (no effects) and nouveau drivers that doesn't work properly (1280x1024) and everything appears crushed (5:4 or 4:3 in a 16:9 display) but it's the only way to see ubuntu in graphic mode. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 993655] Re: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset
I'd spent the weekend dealing with this as last week someone at work gave me one of these plantronics devices to use, and I was stoked it would act as a headset for my pc as well. Then I started getting the screen freeze issue, and never figured out it was linked to the stupid headset. After upgrading from 12.04 to 13.10 (hitting a ton of ubuntu bugs along with the way with the intel 4000 video chipset, forcing me to hit 13.10 until I got a stable system again), and trying every window manager out there, still had this issue... Seemingly after doing anything that triggered the sound device, finally figured out it was related when disconnecting the plantronics headset would allow me to click on my display windows again. Argh! If nothing else, can you (Canonical) simply blacklist the device by default, or at least add the xorg entry if you can't find a better way of dealing with it? This is likely to make any user lose their hair as it about did for me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg-server in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993655 Title: Unity looses mouse click handler when using enabling USB headset To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/993655/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 910539] Re: maximum number of clients reached
This is looking more and more like a X server resource leak. I reached this state again after a couple of days (as I usually do) and tried to capture some information to compare with the clean-state data, so I closed everything I had open until I had only the clients that I normally have right after login. Then I started running xwininfo with different options. After successfully running xwininfo several times I suddenly got Maximum number of clients reachedxwininfo: error: unable to open display :0.0 I literally had not run anything else other than a few shell commands. I seriously doubt xwininfo is leaking handles. Later, when I'm not doing real work, I'll try to script something to see if I can create a failure. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/910539 Title: maximum number of clients reached To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/910539/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 659405] Re: Xorg crashes on suspend
Timo Laine, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com /daily-live/current/ . If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.12 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. so, things to try: - does 3.12 work - if not, does drm-intel-nightly from the mainline ppa work - if 3.12 works, maybe do a rough bisect through the 3.12-rc's from the ppa if none of these work, then maybe doing a rough bisect to see which kernel broke it. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 562005] Re: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers
On my workplace Thinkpad W530 (Quadro K1000M in discrete-only mode), EnableBrightnessControl=1 does in fact expose a working Backlight property via xrandr. Unfortunately, Gnome is looking for a property called BACKLIGHT, and falls back to /sys/class/backlight when it's not found. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-settings-daemon/+bug/947919 I've also managed to get the nvidiabl module to work, by setting the 'type' and 'max' parameters. Gnome prefers backlights of type platform over type raw. The non- working thinkpad_screen is type platform, and nvidia_backlight defaults to raw. Setting nvidia_backlight to platform fixes this. My approach for figuring out the proper value of 'max': 1. Start with EnableBrightnessControl=1 set. 2. Load nvidiabl with some value (such as 0x1000) for 'max'.(If your backlight turns entirely off, doing step 3 should turn it back on.) modprobe nvidiabl max=number 3. Use xbacklight to change brightness to some lower value, then back to 100. (If you just try to reapply 100, it won't work.) xbacklight -set 50; xbacklight -set 100 4. Check what the reported 'actual_brightness' and 'brightness' values are. grep . /sys/class/backlight/nvidia_backlight/*brightness 5. If brightness and actual_brightness both equal the max_brightness value, you've found a 'max' that works. If actual_brightness and brightness are below max_brightness, the guess for 'max' was too high. If they're above max_brightness, the guess for 'max' was too low. 6. As a final sanity check, I verified that the brightness slider in gnome works smoothly (that is, brightness changes occur over the whole range). 7. Save that max in a module config file; I tend to put all my personal options in /etc/modprobe.d/custom.conf options nvidiabl type=platform max=value you found Now I just need to remove EnableBrightnessControl, since as it is now, the nvidia driver reverts to the xbacklight value (100) whenever I click a link in an e-mail. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/562005 Title: Backlight controls of laptops with NVIDIA NVS and Quadro FX 880M GPUs no longer function while using proprietary drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-certification/+bug/562005/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1250312] [NEW] Numerous RadeonSI and RadeonCI issues
Public bug reported: Ubuntu 14.04 Firstly, there is the problem that Mesa is heavily outdated (9.2.2). Mesa 10 officially releases on November 27th but it would be highly admirable to see it arrive here earlier. Secondly, RadeonSI+ demands/requires Mesa to be compiled with LLVM 3.4 or else it will be stuck at OpenGL 2.1 and littered with missing features, bugs, and low performance.
