[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1255407] [NEW] SynapticsTouch Pad V 1.03U2 not recognized as a touchpad, only a simple mouse
Public bug reported: On my new HP Spectre 13 x2 laptop/tablet, the base's touchpad is not recognized by Ubuntu's "Touchpad configuration" as a touchpad. synclient also does not recognize it as a touchpad, though xinput shows it as a "SynapticsTouch Pad V 1.03U2". Regardless, the RS690M was listed as supported, I bought hardware that I thought would be supported for that specific reason, and then that changed, and that leaves me with no experience or reason to recommend ATI or the radeon driver at this point, and plenty of reason to recommend against it. ..the stuff that is new now becomes old later. ..why should I think that my experience with any other ATI card should be different? ..at least on the Intel side, there's the blessing (and support) of the chip maker. > Also, "3D is important" is a bit exaggerated, because 3D pipeline and > *everything* except this bug work really fine. No disagreement there. I've got an Intel graphics card that works superbly, and there are others out there with nVidia and ATI cards that run great, too. What I was said was saying was (indented, so that the if statements and their subjective clauses are more apparent): * If you're reading this and have this issue * This issue has been open for nearly three years * It isn't likely to be fixed, from what I can tell * If 3d is important to you * It is almost definitely worth it to get some hardware that is better supported. ..I stand by that statement. > There are many factors in play > on modern desktop for it to "just work", but this only one bug really damages > it. *nod* and a lot of them work fine, and this one doesn't. ..a perfectly functional car with a broken drive shaft that no one knows how to fix is still valuable -- it's just not valuable to someone who wants to drive a car, unless that person knows how to fix it, or can sell that car, and get another car which many people know how to fix, and which appears less likely to break. ..I'm not looking at this and thinking "That's bad work they've done", I'm looking at it and saying "No one has had the time, know-how, and the access to the hardware to fix this, so if you are waiting for it to get done, my opinion is that you're better off buying more compatible hardware in this particular case." ..then again, all it takes is someone who does have the time, know-how, and hardware to fix this, and who wishes to donate their work. ..if someone does do that -- thank you. ..that specifically won't benefit me at this point, but thank you just on the general principle of it, and for the people that it will benefit. ..and thank you to everyone else who has contributed to Linux, X, and all the layers in between and on top -- it's phenomenal work that provides a genuine alternative to the proprietary operating systems that are out there. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556782 Title: [rs690m] [Gateway] Graphics corruption with ati x1200 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/556782/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Hello Mr Deucher, could you please be a bit more specific which mobile xpress x1250 are not affected? Right now I have R60 and R20, both of which show same issues... Can you please suggest any patch to clear the texture memory when asked prior to submitting it for writing (within the OpenGL-specific context)? Right now, the more one works, the more triangle surface is flawless. Only freshly booted or freshly hibernated under go it and as time passes these surfaces are eventually clear, except for those that never get a chance of rewrite, like fonts textures in gnome-shell. Also, switching TTYs is still an issue as system can simply become unable to switch back to Xorg TTY, with screen constantly flashing/pulsating in black. But this is not a huge blocker. Well, Brian, its true regarding older hardware, lets not be blind about all the post x1*** - 6*** cards, they are actually okay. Also, "3D is important" is a bit exaggerated, because 3D pipeline and *everything* except this bug work really fine. There are many factors in play on modern desktop for it to "just work", but this only one bug really damages it. On the other hand, its so damn shame that no one wants to give a look, even if offered full remote access to affected machine, in do what you want, ask what you wish, mode. :( -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/556782 Title: [rs690m] [Gateway] Graphics corruption with ati x1200 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/556782/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

> It works just fine a quite a few RS690 boards. ah. ..well, it also doesn't work for quite a few RS690 boards. I guess it's academic for me, at this point, though -- I've long since moved on, since I had to keep working and current, and the old driver was dropped. If you're reading this bug and have this issue, it's been open for nearly three years, and isn't likely to be fixed, as far as I can tell. If 3d acceleration is important to you, it's almost definitely worth it to get some hardware that is better supported. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1255313] [NEW] Java application cannot start: fails to load system cursor
Public bug reported: Hi, I am currently running Mir on Ubuntu 13.10 32bits. I reported a bug concerning a faulty cursor a few days ago, but came across another one today. I tried to run the Java application "SweetHome3D" (available in the Software Center) but it won't load. It says "java.lang.RuntimeException: cannot load system cursor: CopyDrop.32x32" on a terminal (I attached the full output to this report). I switched back to X and it worked fine. I also tried the latest version available for SweetHome3D, but it won't work either. I am assuming it is closely related to my previous bug (#1253694) and others (#1211060 & #1216468). However, I am filing a new bug, since this is much morse: a whole application – and possibly others – is unusable. Thanks for your time. The boot goes fine. Then I decide to try the ubuntu (not to install). I go to the search in the left upper corner, type "terminal". I open the terminal. After a while the desktop environment almost completely freezes. I can only move the touchpad pointer. I can also switch to the console (Alt Ctrl F1) and then back (Alt F7). The desktop responds after this switch but its reactions and colours are strange and it is unusable. I guess a problem with a video driver. I am not sure which one because there are two graphics processors inside (one is an embedded Intel HD Graphics 4600, the other is the NVidia, see above). However, I have similar problems when I insert the DVD into an old computer: 1st generation Intel i7, without an embedded graphics, with two dual cards GeForce GTX295 (4 GPUs together). The machine runs fine older Ubuntu and Mint releases. ** Affects: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-input-synaptics in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255104 Title: HP ZBook, live ubuntu 13.10: freezes (a video driver problem) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-synaptics/+bug/1255104/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334] Re: [gen4 sna] Font corruption
I just noticed that when I visit the web page http://www.thomann.de/se/thomann_dp25.htm and play a music sample from that page something happens with the text on the screen. Characters are distorted and back synchronized with the music. The error pops around on the screen seemingly in random. I use Ubuntu 13.10 and Firefox. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-intel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098334 Title: [gen4 sna] Font corruption To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/1098334/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
