[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1171729] Re: no backlight controls with nvidia driver on MacbookPro5, 5
Hi All The solution from wvengen does work perfectly for me. I also have a macbook pro 5.5 and at the moment I'm running Ubuntu 13.10. My Nvidia Driver at the time of typing is 304 but I will try 319 soon. Just install git via: sudo apt-get install git if no already done. Next step is clone the mentioned repo. So type: git clone https://github.com/guillaumezin/nvidiabl.git Next step is to install the latest package in the install/deb folder. First enter the install/deb folder via cd nvidiabl/install/deb next is to actually install the driver via sudo dpkg -i nvidiabl-dkms_0.85_all.deb if a newer version (higher number thant 0.85) is available install this one instead. After installation has completed one needs to restart and backlight control does work again :) Credits go to guillaumezin and wvengen for coding and pointing me to the solution. I'm very greatfull for your work and pointing me to the solution after Hours of research. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-313-updates in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171729 Title: no backlight controls with nvidia driver on MacbookPro5,5 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-313-updates/+bug/1171729/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1263800] Re: xserver broken after ubuntu update: nvidia api mismatch
Update: Last night I managed to find a work around this issue. It seems that for Ubuntu LTS 12.04, the default kernel provided in the updates 'links to' (I'm not sure what the technical word is) a less recent NVIDIA driver version, 304.88, while the nvidia driver update installed on my machine on the 21st September was version 304.108. I therefore installed successively more recent kernel binaries until I found that 3.11.0-14 provided support for the NVIDIA drivers now installed on my machine. I have pasted a copy of my /usr/src directory below, and you can see the installation of nvidia drivers and new kernels until xserver worked again for 3.11.0-14. I presume that the issue was caused by an incorrect dependency in the ubuntu package manager / update system.
