[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-01-16 Thread Chris Wilson
Typical, it appeared stable through my firefox testing, but if you try
reverting b7565a26401e283df94b68019e8093f8104428f4, I expect the
corruptions to disappear again.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-01-16 Thread Harald Judt
After updating to current git, the situation has become worse and I now
see more visible corruptions even with MAX_FLUSH_VERTICES=1. And I did
not have to wait some hours for them to appear as before, they are
visible right after starting X.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-01-16 Thread Zdenek Kabelac
(In reply to comment #160)

reverting b7565a26401e283df94b68019e8093f8104428f4, I expect the corruptions

Yep - correct revert of this commit make MAX_VERTEX 1 again producing
correct rendering - even thought it's again noticable slower - thus now
it's clear why I've considered it usable with MAX 1 before (in my
comment 155).

So yep - revert MAX 1 works again - but it's quite slow.

Is it now any better to deduce which operation is make such bad memory
interaction ?

It seems like the 'synchronization' is really needed only at very
certain moments - where the GPU is producing memory corruption error on
the screen - but how to catch in which moment ?

I'm still suspecting some memory layout of those memory object - since
when I see corruption - it usually it specific places (i.e. edit of this
firefox input widget and just only certain characters at certain
positions are render with errors)

How can I try to increasing memory alignment ?
(i.e. each object only at 16KB boundary?)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-01-16 Thread Harald Judt
I have updated to current git and reverted commit
b7565a26401e283df94b68019e8093f8104428f4 and left the MAX_FLUSH_VERTICES
set to 1, but now instead of glyph corruption I notice some icons are
corrupted similar to the glyphs before.

Example: In thunderbird, I hover over a toolbar icon and when the mouse
pointer leaves the icon, it is corrupted. Or it gets corrupted when I
hover over the icon. In both cases, the corruptions disappear a short
time after, when something else gets updated on the screen.

Strangely, I have not seen glyph corruption yet.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1098334]

2014-01-16 Thread Edward Sheldrake
I have been experimenting with various numbers in the code in comment
#157 without really discovering anything useful. I think any change that
slows things down decreases the chances of observing any corruption, but
might not necessarily fix the problem completely.

With current git + MAX_FLUSH_VERTICES=6, gnome-terminal suffers from the
text corruption, firefox is bad, but KDE4 konqueror and MiniBrowser from
webkitgtk3 seem to display the same webpages perfectly fine. The other
thing I have noticed is that under this setup, I can make gedit suffer
from the text corruption if I set an italic (and not monospaced) font -
in that case, almost every line of the text file displayed will show
some corruption immediately after changing to the italic font.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269763] [NEW] Nvidia settings not remembered

2014-01-16 Thread turbolad
Public bug reported:

Using Nvidia settings, the 120hz refresh rate is not being remembered
after shutdown or rebooting. Yes the monitor supports 120hz and I use
this setting on Windows 7 all the time.

Using Ubuntu 13.10 64-bit and Nvidia drivers (I chose the tested one
on the list).

This was never a problem with the previous versions of Ubuntu (I'm using
13.10 because it feels faster and I can install the newer apps).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269773] [NEW] unidentified fglrx video glitch under firefox which can end in video half shifted

2014-01-16 Thread Sylvain Viart
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I don't known where I should exactly post this bug.

I will try to describe it.
Seems to appear since I upgraded from xubuntu 12.04.3 LTS to 13.10.

I'm running it on a Compaq laptop : compaq pressario cq57-421
with Graphiques AMD Radeon HD 6310

lspci -nn | grep VGA
00:01.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
[AMD/ATI] Wrestler [Radeon HD 6310] [1002:9802]

This is a sporadic bug which seems to start under some web pages only.
It starts by glitching the screen, slowly more or less frequently
depending on the faulty web pages. Some small glitch 2 or 3 by minute
to 1 by second. If I stay on the page it could end to screen to be half
shifted. See attached picture.

Today, after reinstalling the fglrx package. It ended on a simple 3 or 4
pixels bottom glitching video, only on the faulty web page. The whole
system seems not te be impacted as on the picture. During the glitching
phase the frequency was 1 by sec or more.

It could become form a bad upgrade, from the OS, the graphic driver, the X11
configuration, or the browser…
Sorry to be such evasive at the moment.

Trying the Open source graphical driver (xserver-xorg-video-radeon) but
ended to a blank or unusable desktop after lightdm auth.

Sorry if this report is in the wrong place, please point me to a more
appropriate one.

I've bookmarked a URL which reproduce the bug: a linkedin.com profile when I'm
logged in, not very useful.
only at the top of the page, scrolling stop the glitching…

Some versions information…

2014-01-16 Thread Thomas Lynch
Haven't forgotten this ... give me a few more days. It is really cool
someone is looking at it.

On 2014-01-09 07:49, Christopher M. Penalver wrote:
Thomas Lynch, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been
any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
 http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

 apport-collect -p xserver-xorg-video-ati REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
 would not be helpful.

 Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269642] Re: X needs a restart after suspend to drive 1920x1200 over displayport

2014-01-16 Thread John Lenton
** Summary changed:

- X needs a restart after suspend to drive 1200x1080 over displayport
+ X needs a restart after suspend to drive 1920x1200 over displayport

** Description changed:

After suspend, my displayport-connected monitor will (most often) no
- longer work at the native 1200x1080 resolution.
+ longer work at the native 1920x1200 resolution.

  Restarting X fixes it.

This is not a new problem, but I always thought I had a wonky cable. I
only recently noticed the suspend issue, and only just now the restart
  thing.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2014-01-16 Thread Kyle Brenneman
I don't see any changes that would have fixed it, but it's quite
possible that other changes could adjust the timing such that the bug is
harder to reproduce.

I've got a Q600 handy, though, so give me a few minutes to load up Saucy
onto my test system and I'll check.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 397880] [NEW] Openoffice slow after suspend using Compiz

2014-01-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: openoffice.org

Hi,
On a Dell D630 running Jaunty 64bit, after resuming from suspend, the
openoffice documents I had opened before suspend are extremely slow when
scrolling (taking several seconds before refreshing, and occasionally becoming
inactive (darkening with Compiz enabled) for a few more seconds. Things work
fine as soon as I switch from Compiz to Metacity. Also, it is enough to close
and reopen the misbehaving file for things to return to normal.

I have found an expired and unanswered question in launchpad refering to
the same problem:
https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openoffice.org/+question/69090

ProblemType: Bug

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085338]

2014-01-16 Thread agd5f
(In reply to comment #3)
This is still an existing problem since a couple of years in my setup, so
I'll try to move it a bit to get it solved:

I wonder if there's any way on which this alignment could be off-by-one in
the xrandr code for this specific case. Is there any way or place where I
could have a look and try?

It's a radeon display hardware alignment requirement.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1197921] Re: LibreOffice spreadsheet causes full Xorg crash with Anti-Aliasing enabled

2014-01-16 Thread Simon Tremblay
Do you know why the package libpixman 0.30.2-2 is only available in
Trusty? (comment #35)

Is there an easy way to get that package for Saucy?

I've got that crash even if I'm updated to latest package for xorg-
server 2:1.14.5-1ubuntu2 and libpixman 0.30.2-1 (note that is -1 not
-2).

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1269928] [NEW] Jumpy Mouse Cursor using Thinkpad X230 Touchpad

2014-01-16 Thread Michael Faath
Public bug reported:

The touchpad moves the mouse cursor multiple pixels at once, when using
the trackpoint or an external mouse it works fine.

This is the same issue as described in #1042069
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-input-
synaptics/+bug/1042069), same hardware, same problem. I was advised to
open another report for reasons of clarity.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 861268] Re: text corruption in terminals (xterm, urxvt) and emacs

2014-01-16 Thread Kyle Brenneman
Just tested on 13.10, and I can still reproduce the problem. It's less
frequent on my system than it did on 12.04, but it still shows up every
so often.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1199409] Re: Xrandr twitches when using DVI-VGA adapter

2014-01-16 Thread Robke Geenen
Hello,

Again, sorry for the late reaction.
I have tried the xorg-edgers PPA, and when I run the script (See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/XorgOnTheEdge for a script that installs and runs the
test packages in a live CD/media session, for quick and easy temporary
testing.) I see some references, and errors, about gdm scrolling past.
I guess this is because gdm is not used anymore (it is lightdm now, right?).
And after the script finishes, all vtty's are acting weird, whenever I enter a
command it outputs that it cannot find a command which consists of just a
random bunch of letters.
I can then exit out of the shell (^D) and it goes back to normal, but when I
manually restart Xorg (the script does not do that) I cannot open the system
settings anymore.
All in all, I guess this only gives even more troubles than the stable Xorg.
The fglrx-legacy driver cannot be installed on 14.04, but the last time I did
install it, it did not have support for the PCI graphics card (Mobility FireGL
9000), I highly doubt that AMD has put that in since, because the legacy driver
would not get (feature) updates anymore.

With kind regards,
Robke Geenen

in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1034132] [NEW] [MacBook2, 1] Touchpad cursor moving in steps

2014-01-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm on a MacBook2,1, running a fully updated Ubuntu 12.04. When using
the internal Touchpad (appletouch driver), the cursor only moves
horizontally or vertically. When dragging a diagonal line, the cursor
will move in steps, basically rendering the builtin touchpad unusable.
This issue is also described in a forum thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=813884page=6

WORKAROUND: In precise, in the second post on page 6 describes a solution. In
the linux kernel, in appletouch.c, change the following two defines and
recompile:
Original:
#define ATP_FUZZ 16
#define ATP_THRESHOLD 5

New:
#define ATP_FUZZ 0
#define ATP_THRESHOLD 3

I tried this and can confirm that the touchpad is now fully usable.
However, recompiling the kernel takes several hours and *all* of the
disk space on my laptop. Doing this on every kernel update is just not
practical. I would therefore like to ask that this be applied as a patch
to the default ubuntu kernel. At the very least, please make an optional
package containing the patched appletouch driver that can be selectively
installed by people having this issue.

Re: [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1034132] Re: [MacBook2, 1] Touchpad cursor moving in steps

2014-01-16 Thread Clinton
I already have another report out there for my hardware for this issue.

I changed this report to confirmed and assigned it to myself because I'm
submitting a patch to the kernel to fix the root cause for multiple
hardware iterations.
