[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273652] Re: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash

2014-01-30 Thread Markus J Schmidt
Yes apport is configured correctly I tried the test with sh -c 'kill
-SEGV $$' and could successfully produce a crash report...

There is no crash occuring when I hit apply. It seems the program is
simply closing.

I tried to use to old version 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.2 but could not change
the monitors.

2014-01-30 Thread Lee H
If I remove the ~/.drirc file then boot with the xorg.conf device
section:

Section Device
Identifier Intel Graphics
Driver intel
Option AccelMethod UXA
Option Triplebufferfalse
EndSection

I still managed to reproduce the bug on closing the lid a few times.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1253068] Re: Constant GPU Lock-ups with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10

2014-01-30 Thread Luis Mendes
-- GPU lock-up also happens with NVIDIA driver, although less frequently.
-- Xorg CPU utilization goes to 99%/100% and stays there, with nouveau this
doesn't happen.
Logs follow attached.

** Description changed:

Problem happens with Ubuntu 13.04 and 13.10, didn't happen with Ubuntu 12.04
LTS
The problem occurs as a general rule during the first 30 minutes of use and
keeps happening across several following reboots and shutdown/power on cycles.

I've a Pentium IV 3.06GHz with Hyperthreading enabled and a graphic card:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G73 [GeForce 7600 GS]
(rev a2) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller])
Subsystem: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd Device 3428

Region 0: Memory at f800 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
Region 1: Memory at e000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=256M]
Region 2: Memory at f900 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16M]
[virtual] Expansion ROM at fa00 [disabled] [size=128K]
Capabilities: access denied

And I've been observing GPU lockups like the ones in attachment since Ubuntu
13.04 no matter I use the nouveau or nvidia drivers any version. In fact nvidia
drivers worses the problem appearance rate. These problems didn't happen with
Ubuntu 12.04 LTS running on same machine with same hardware.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1085541] Re: Regression: Latest updates break X [HP dv6 laptop]

2014-01-30 Thread Soft Ginger
The lastest update also breaks my computer, which uses NVidia graphic
card. I tried purging nvidia-prime and nvidia-331 ( or nvidia-319) and
everything went to normal. This might imply that the package that break
this would be something related to Xorg.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1259237] Re: Hybrid graphics enablement in 12.04.4

2014-01-30 Thread Alberto Milone
I can confirm that the last two updates work correctly on my laptop:

Jockey detects the new drivers correctly:

~$ jockey-text -l
kmod:wl - Broadcom STA wireless driver (Proprietary, Disabled, Not in use)
[auto-install]
xorg:nvidia_331 - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (Proprietary, Disabled,
Not in use)
xorg:nvidia_331_updates - NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver (post-release
updates) (Proprietary, Enabled, In use)

And the system works correctly with the new nvidia-prime.

happened recently as said above. I wonder if there's any similar patch

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274568] [NEW] Radeon HD5970 idle temperature over 75C

2014-01-30 Thread Ville Rouhiainen
Public bug reported:

On my fresh Ubuntu 13.10 x64 installation, my ATI XFX Radeon HD5970 runs
over 75C when idle. This is obviously unacceptably high and there seems
to be insufficient means for adjusting the temperature by adjusting the
fan speed.

I tried to change card's power method and power profile (auto, default,
low, mid, high), but these did not make any significant differences:

sudo sh -c echo profile /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_method
sudo sh -c echo high /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_profile

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272720] Re: sometimes boot fails

2014-01-30 Thread thom
Additional info:

When problem occurs, this is the output:

[ 17.200131] b43-phy0 ERROR: Microcode not responding
[ 17.200140] b43-phy0 ERROR: You must go to
http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43#devicefirmware and download the
correct firmware for this driver version. Please carefully read all
instructions on this website.
[ 17.200367] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan2: link is not ready

I can start lightdm manually after that. X will start and the b43
driver seems to work properly.

I can attach the dmesg.log that I saved for this occasion if that is
helpful.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2014-01-30 Thread piccobello
My experience in a nutshell (using Kubuntu):
- I have an old machine with a GeForce FX 5200, which was working great with
natty and the proprietary nvidia-173 driver, manually installed
- I don't care about 3D and effects, but watching movies with nouveau I had
some annoying flickering horizontal lines
- after upgrading to precise I restored nouveau as the proprietary driver
compalined about a missing file in /lib
- installing nvidia-173 (173.14.39-0ubuntu0.0.1) using Applications - System
- Additional Drivers (Jockey) solved the issue for me.

In short, you can use GeForce FX 5200 with nvidia-173 in Kubuntu Precise

Thanks to all that contributed!

I tried to reproduce this, now I receiver this error:

ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ xrandr --output HDMI-1-1 --mode 1920x1080
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 140 (RANDR)
Minor opcode of failed request: 7 (RRSetScreenSize)
  Value in failed request: 0x0
Serial number of failed request: 45
Current serial number in output stream: 46

I could not get the notebook screen and the external online, notebook is
black.

Graphic errors are the same as before.
But I would say, the slow reaction time is maybe not because of fps. For
example, the terminal is sometimes very slow, I could type something and it is
written a second ago.
Graphics seems to be smooth, but the screen is not refreshing, for ex.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1227569] Re: individual characters frequently corrupted

2014-01-30 Thread Jmadero
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1098334 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1098334

What can I do to get this bug out of invalid state. If you google font
corruption ubuntu 13.10 quite a few people are reporting it. It's
pretty nasty as it affects every piece of software and makes font
rendering unreadable. It must be an intel issue and if that's the case
it'd be best to go to an older driver (13.04)

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1248256] Re: Plugging in displayport monitor causes kworker to take 100% CPU

2014-01-30 Thread Brendan
The bug does still occur on Trusty. I did a fresh install from the
nightly builds (the AMD64-Mac ISO), and plugged in the monitor while
running `top`. kworker takes up 100% of CPU and makes the system
extremely unresponsive.

I rebooted, and ran apport-collect in order to generate the updated
debug information.

Thanks for your time, please let me know if there's anything else you
need from me. Somebody in the Ubuntu forums thought they might have a
workaround, here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2191275
