Be more specific. The Xorg log does not show any issues (other than the fact that you're using a third-party driver from oibaf's PPA that isn't supported by a bug report on this site...). We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273652] Re: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash
I'm having the same problem too. This is recent, so I suspected an update may be the culprit. I have tried reverting to a previous version of nvidia driver, but that made no difference. Error message is substantially the same- ERROR: Error querying target relations The program 'nvidia-settings' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadRequest (invalid request code or no such operation)'. (Details: serial 82 error_code 1 request_code 154 minor_code 29) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to nvidia-settings in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1273652 Title: apply of multi-monitor setting results in crash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-settings/+bug/1273652/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

So you had nvidia-173 installed as well??? Sigh... Converting to a question since you have all kinds of third-party and conflicting drivers installed, and your changes are unsupported by Canonical. Quite frankly, it seems you mucked up the system and it's beyond my personal level of patience to help you straighten it out Good luck. ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Invalid ** Converted to question: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+question/243646 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1278160 Title: video driver To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278160/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1205643] Re: VIA P4M800 graphics broken in Lubuntu/Xubuntu Saucy 12.04.4 candidate
@ Andrea, The 12.04 and 12.04.1 images use the same basic kernel and X-stack (other than bug fixes and security updates) so I suspect you're dealing with an additional issue. You should first of all rule out a bad disc/USB (depending on which you're using to install) by entering the advanced boot options as described here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BootOptions#Ubuntu_CD_Advanced_Welcome_Page_Options Then select Check disc for defects. That will take several minutes to complete, but unless it shows no errors found then you have bad installation media. Additionally a quick Google search shows that the hardware involved may be: Intel Celeron M 1.70GHz VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP 512MB RAM Have you upgraded the RAM? If you're still running with 512MB of RAM you can probably still install Ubuntu Precise but you'll once again have to enter the advanced boot options and choose Install Ubuntu from that menu. Or you may need to use the Alternate CD. Also DO NOT choose to download updates or install 3rd party software when asked, and DO NOT choose to automatically login. Some of the reasoning behind that is based solely on personal experience and goes far beyond the scope of this bug report. I also think that you'll likely find that Unity-2D is even quite slow on that hardware so you'll likely want to do something like this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1966370 In fact if you have or are willing to create an Ubuntu Forums account you could post in that thread and I'll be glad to try and help you. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1278224] [NEW] X.Org causes RANDOM REBOOTS on x64 linux kernel
Public bug reported: I already asked a question on AskUbuntu but I'm reporting it as a bug as suggested by moderators. I get lots of hard reboots when the xserver is supposed to do something (that's why I call it random), especially when scrolling a pdf (2-4 scrolls will suffice). For example, as I'm submitting this bug, my system rebooted twice: the first time as I clicked on Yes, log me in, the second one as I highlighted some words with the cursor. I also get reboots while pressing F2 to rename a file (just before the box with highlighted text appears), and also while opening/closing a tab on any browser (right before doing it). It could really reboot on ANYTHING. Here are some clues: 1. If I log into the system and don't do anything, the system is stable and running until I start using it. 2. I'm running a mainstream kernel, but it doesn't matter. A saucy live cd and even a natty live cd show the same bug. 3. It doesn't matter which desktop environment is running. Ubuntu, Kubuntu and Xubuntu are all showing the same problem. 4. It doesn't matter which graphic driver is running: nouveau, nvidia and mesa are all affected. 5. System logs don't show anything, they stop before the crash and restart at boot. 6. A linux i386 (32 bits) kernel DOES NOT SHOW THIS PROBLEM. ** Attachment added: Xorg.0.log https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1278224/+attachment/3975266/+files/Xorg.0.log ** Description changed: I already asked a question on AskUbuntu but I'm reporting it as a bug as suggested by moderators. - - http://http://askubuntu.com/questions/401283/help-random-reboots-while- - opening-closing-a-browser-tab-or-scrolling-a-pdf - - Above is the link to the question, but I will summarize it quickly: I get lots of hard reboots when the xserver is supposed to do something (that's why I call it random), especially when scrolling a pdf (2-4 scrolls will suffice). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1274652] Re: [Xmir] Vertical line on big screens
That's an odd one. Tearing should be horizontal only. This looks like a tiling artefact, which might make it an Intel driver bug.
