[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1262860] Re: on live session in precise daily images, wrong resolution
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1273832] Re: [fglrx] Lockscreen/lid-close xserver freeze if UXA accel used.
Recently I underwent a botched nvidia-prime install that left a bitter taste in my mouth: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-prime/+bug/1249067 I had to purge my system of all nvidia drivers (apt-get --purge remove nvidia\*), then reinstall them: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee After reinstallation, when my screen goes blank after idling, sometimes it resumes to the desktop, other times I'm left at a black screen with moving cursor that appears to indicate the screen is actually there, but just not visible. The mouse cursor will change from a pointer to a hand (if it happens to hover over a hyperlink in the browser), or a 'I' (when it hovers over a text input area). I kept searching for a solution that related to the Xorg system, but everything I threw at it (the little I know about X) didn't bear fruit. In the end, I just simply had to go to a console (CTRL+ALT+F1) to restart lightdm to get my desktop back. When working with multiple windows and having many applications open, losing the desktop can cause one to experiance weird emotions and exhibit irrational actions; and it gets really old, really fast! To cut a long story short, today I got fedup with it and started killing anything that interracts with the display system (sometimes fatally that I had to reboot by holding power button down for >5secs) to get this sorted. Interestingly, the culprit appears to be compiz. I can now duplicate this easily: 1. launch screensaver preferences (i use xscreensaver) 2. select a GL screensaver (the black screen with mouse occurs more often with such a screensaver) 3. click Preview button then hit the ESC key to return to desktop repeatedly until the black screen+mouse appears 4. CTRL+ALT+F1 to go to console window 1 and run the command: kill -9 $(pgrep compiz) 5 CTRL+ALT+F7 to return to GUI desktop - you should see your desktop minus the open windows 6 move mouse cursor to get compiz to reactivate itself and bring all your open applications into view Hopefully this workaround will keep people like me sane for a little longer... [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1254442] Re: [SRU] Please upgrade to new upstream release v.13.12 (has support for Saucy's Kernel 3.11)
** Tags removed: upgrade-software-version ** Tags added: saucy ** Description changed: - Please upgrade to new upstream release v. 13.12. + Please upgrade Saucy's fglrx-installer (and/or -updates) to the new + upstream release v. 13.12. [Impact] This driver supports Kernel up to 3.11 and Xorg up to 1.14; ie. it should fully work on Ubuntu 13.10. The version 13.11 Beta V9.4 also fixes the following issues: [372656] : Resolves crash when resizing Konsole [388325] : Resolves brightness adjustment issues [388818] : Resolves kernel module compile failure when CONFIG_UIDGID_STRICT_TYPE_CHECKS is enabled [388335] : Avoids the new GPL symbol acpi_bus_get_device for new kernel support [386897] : Resolves system hang on resume from S4 with OpenGL screen saver running The change log for the v. 13.12 is in comment 3 below. It might make sense to also upgrade the stable package, as the v. 13.11 beta 9.4. is the first version that has native support for Saucy's Kernel. Source and more information can be found from http://support.amd.com/en- us/kb-articles/Pages/Latest-LINUX-Beta-Driver.aspx and http://support.amd.com/en-us/kb- articles/Pages/amdcatalyst13-12linreleasenotes.aspx - [Test Case] After installing the update, users should be able to boot the system as usual, with no regressions of any kind. [Regression Potential] Low. The new driver version doesn't add any new features apart from having a native support for Kernel 3.11. All other changes are bug fixes. - Thanks. ** Summary changed: - [SRU] Please upgrade to new upstream release v.13.12 (has support for Saucy's Kernel 3.11) + [SRU] Please upgrade Saucy's fglrx to new upstream release v.13.12 (has support for Kernel 3.11) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to fglrx-installer in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1254442 Title: [SRU] Please upgrade Saucy's fglrx to new upstream release v.13.12 (has support for Kernel 3.11) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/+bug/1254442/+subscriptions ___ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1280658] [NEW] Random screen freeze on Ubuntu 13.10; mouse and sound continue working
Public bug reported: In addition to my system, this bug occurs on 3 other laptops in my lab (2x Thinkpad and 1x Macbook air). The bug seems 13.10 specific as other installations are not affected. My Macbook Pro 11.3 has Kernel 3.13. When the screen freezes, sound (e.g., skype) still works and I can move the mouse but not click. I 'solve' this by going to the terminal and restarting lightdm by 'sudo service lightdm restart' but of course this is still not a real solution. It seems to me (but this is really just a speculation) that the freeze occurs more often shortly (10-60min) after connecting or disconnecting to/from an external screen. Sometimes, when I switch to tty1 to restart lightdm, the terminal is flooded with 'Wrong Mac address' messages but this is probably unrelated. I changed to gdm in hope that this may fix the bug but judging by the reports from this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg- server/+bug/1184451 this will not do the trick. Let me know if you need more logs, etc. Thanks, Krzysztof ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-031300-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: wl .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None Date: Sat Feb 15 10:53:57 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: saucy DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bbswitch, 0.7: added bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.12.0-031200-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.12.0-994-generic, x86_64: installed bcmwl, 6.30.223.141+bdcom, 3.13.0-031300-generic, x86_64: installed ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: NVIDIA Corporation Device [10de:0fe9] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Apple Inc. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1280653] [NEW] Xorg freeze
Public bug reported: System freezes or kernel panic occurs. Happens since I put a new SSD in my Acer 1810TZ Laptop. SSD: http://www.samsung.com/de/consumer/memory-storage/ssd/under-500-gb/MZ-7TE250BW Problem seems to be somewhere between Kernel, SSD, BIOS, SATA support. Already have the latest BIOS for my Laptop. System got more stable since I installed new Kernel (3.11 instead of 3.8) and use btrfs-Filesystem now. But still several freezes per day, especcially while browsing complicated (java?)-websites. [Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1244827] Re: [13.10] Ubuntu detects a non-existing screen
A workaround is to go to System Settings then to Screen Display. You'll see a screen labeled "Unknown Display". Click on this and you'll see that the On/Off 'switch' below will now show On. Click it to Off and the effects of the "Unknown Screen" will go away. I have a notebook with an external 24" monitor and the effects for me were - 1.
