[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1192908] Re: Mir/Mesa packaging have a dependency cycle so neither can build

2014-02-25 Thread Alexandros Frantzis
This bugs is still valid. We don't have a problem with at this point,
because we have both mir and mesa packages in the archive, so we can
build new versions using the existing versions of -dev packages to
fulfill dependencies (this needs some care when we make incompatible

I think our best way forward is to remove the dependency libegl1-mesa-

that needs to use Mir with EGL will depend on libmirclient-dev itself,
or at least mircommon-dev (otherwise how can it know about the
MirConnection/Surfaces types it needs to pass to EGL?).

I would also recommend changing mesa to build depend on mircommon-dev
instead of the full libmirclient-dev, since it only needs the Mir EGL
definitions in the former package.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284553] [NEW] GPU lockup IPEHR: 0x7a000002 IPEHR: 0x0b140001 Desktop fails to display on boot up

Public bug reported:

Frequently on boot the desktop is not displayed and is just black. I am
able to switch to vt1 and run 'sudo service lightdm restart', and
sometimes the desktop appears correctly, but more often than not I just
get the black screen again. Seems like a race condition. After recent
updates the problem seems to be 100% reproducible and I am unable to get
a working desktop at all.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 883319]

2014-02-25 Thread Felix Miata
It seems clear that at least analog hardware users who require panning
and want or need to stick to FOSS solutions need to stick to out of
support Xorg versions and/or out of support drivers, and/or ancient
gfxchip technology (e.g. MGA), and/or cheap (and usually slow) hardware
(e.g. # XGI Technology Inc. (eXtreme Graphics Innovation) Z7/Z9 (XG20
core), a slug at 24 bit, tolerable at 16 bit as long as not extending
the desktop virtually as panning was made to do). It looks like users of
supported FOSS software versions and modern competent gfxchips are out
of options other than acquiring (digital?) displays big enough, or
acquiring additional (digital?) video ports and (digital?) displays, to
cover their otherwise virtual needs.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1239037] Re: circular build-dependency between mesa, mir

2014-02-25 Thread Alexandros Frantzis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1192908 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1192908

This bug is still valid. We don't have a problem at this point, because
we have both mir and mesa packages in the archive, so we can build new
versions using the existing versions of -dev packages to fulfill
dependencies (this needs some care when we make incompatible changes).

I agree that our best way forward is to remove the dependency libegl1

I would also recommend changing mesa to build-depend on mircommon-dev
instead of the full libmirclient-dev, since it only needs the Mir EGL
definitions in the former package.

Note, though, that as Daniel points in bug #1192908, we have a circular
dependency issue at the source package level, that can't be solved
unless we either use multiple source packages for Mir, or move our Mir
Mesa EGL definitions upstream in Mesa, as Kevin suggested.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284623] [NEW] 'Elantech Touchpad' becomes semi-unresonsive after a few minutes in 'ASUS N56VJ-S4143H'

2014-02-25 Thread xenocrates
Public bug reported:

After a few minutes of usage, the touchpad will stop responding to
multi-touch gestures, like two-finger scrolling, and tap to click is not
possible. I have had luck with reenabling these features from time to
time by running

'synclient TouchpadOff=0'

although this only works about 1 in 10 times. It should be noted, that
sometimes re touchpad becomes completely unresponsive instead of just
not responding to multi-touch and tapping. When this is the case, the
above command fixes the issue until next reboot. I have tried collecting
some debugging info, but I noticed, that xev does not give any output,
when two fingers are touching the touchpad.

With EXA enabled instead of glamor everything is fine.

I was under the impression that EXA doesn't work with radeonsi? On my

that Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable so the suggested workaround doesn't
really work.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1266784] Re: GPU hangs during login to rotated display

2014-02-25 Thread Simon SimonG
Chris W.:

There are no 'error' files under any (sub)directory in /sys/class/drm.
I can constantly reproduce the symptoms described in this bug on my
system.

Steps to reproduce:
I create a new user account
log into this account via graphical interface
rotate the display using the Screen Display panel.
log out
log in with this new account

As soon as the display is rotated, my session seems to freeze but the
mouse still moves. When I go to the text console (crtl-alt-f1), I see
the kernel messages about i915 hang check and render ring hung inside
bo.

Should I create a new bug report with my config files?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1266784] Re: GPU hangs during login to rotated display

2014-02-25 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
I had another (long) episode of this bug, and there were no files matching
/sys/class/drm/card0*/error

Also, this was on a laptop without any external display whatsoever.
However, it is true that the internal display, which comes up black with only a
useless mouse cursor, was rotated for some reason.

Simon SimonG: When you say rotate the display does that mean the
only/internal one? Or are you rotating something external?

Thanks for the reproduction steps! I'll try them when you specify that
detail

Notice also I've the top bars with a transparence effect, I don't recall
whether I have enabled this optionally in the past. When I maximize the
windows, they don't use transparence anymore, and hence there're no

2014-02-25 Thread Simon SimonG
FYI Christopher,

If you manage to reproduce the bug using my steps, you can undo the
monitor settings by deleting your ~/.config/monitors.xml file. The
Screen Display application stores it's settings in that file.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1284695] Re: [xorg-edgers] Graphical artifacts in window menu bars

2014-02-25 Thread Francisco Lopes
@sarvatt, ok, just for your information, the last set of updates didn't
change anything, I just received them half an hour after you commented.
Also, it's really confuse where I should report xorg-edgers issues, I've
gone to the xorg bugzilla but I didn't have an option referring to xorg-
edgers, didn't have an advice how to file xorg-edgers stuff there, only
here on launchpad and also, in the options for reporting a bug on
freedesktop, I have to say what component of xorg is being affected,
which I don't know. Can you provide some info on this or where I can
find it to just report a bug on edgers PPA updates?

Regards

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1272291] Re: Corrupt mouse cursor when using multimonitors

2014-02-25 Thread Marc
I've noticed an additional quirk. If I slowly move the cursor from the
right screen to the left (after it has become cut-up as described by
others), on the right screen the cursor is as it should be. As it gets
within a few pixels of the left screen (but still fully on the right
screen), the first slice starts to show up on the left screen. In other
words, the cursor is partially rendered on the left screen before it
should be and still fully rendered on the right screen. Very curious.

The distance between the first two slices of the cursor on the left
screen is apparently precisely the distance of the uncorrupted cursor
from the edge of the right screen when it starts to be rendered on the
left screen too early. So it seems like there is some mismatch in the
rendering locations and the internal rendering of the two monitors.
Since the slicing occurs when switching between the monitors (from right
to left for me), it seems like this is an artifact arising between the
rendering location of the cursor as it is between monitors and the
boundary between the screens.

Also note that all the alternate cursors (e.g. window resizing at
corners) are similarly sliced up. So perhaps there is some kind of
filter applied to the cursor image before rendering to the screen that
is getting mangled/corrupted when switching between screens.

I also found a way to uncorrupt the cursor. In the Catalyst Control
Center for the Radeon driver, going to Digital Monitor (2) (I have 2
monitors, might be different for other users), selecting the tab
properties, and checking Reduce DVI frequency on high-resolution
displays (default unchecked) restored the cursor. This resets the right
screen (with the working cursor!) and somehow restores the proper cursor
on the left screen. When the cursor corrupts again, just cycle the
toggle.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1285016] [NEW] Lot of errors with xorg apport and co., after a partial upgrade

2014-02-25 Thread Ezeoma Kingsley
Public bug reported:

I am not very technical.

But, I remember a few things. About two errors shows up on log in. One
of which is that Ubuntu 13.10 has experienced an internal error. Did not
read the other.

The mouse cursor is missing in action, both in the Unity-Greeter and
after Log in.

Window frames are without border. It seems that unity has crashed.

Sorry, that's all I know. Thanks for your help.
