[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1240428] Re: Radeon drivers not loaded properly after upgrading to Saucy

2014-03-11 Thread Michal Sylwester
Just in case someone stumbles upon this: I had similar problem (Saucy
after upgrade from 13.04) but with Xorg not even trying to load the
radeon driver.

Solution was to install xserver-xorg-video-ati (ati driver triggered
loading of the radeon driver).

It still puzzles me why radeon driver wasn't loaded directly, but could
have been something I've done in the past...

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289049] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in kgem_create_2d()

2014-03-11 Thread Chris Wilson
This will report the failure back to the client for trying to create an
OpenGL window for something far beyond its hardware restrictions:

commit 78970676e79d462cf99509012db54479ba93c01a
Author: Chris Wilson ch...@chris-wilson.co.uk
Date: Tue Mar 11 07:33:09 2014 +

sna: Be defensive when applying size restrictions to bo

The assumption that all paths prevalidate the restrictions upon creation
the bo are false. Some important paths try to force the bo creation in
order to meet client expectations (e.g. DRI). So we are faced with
impossible requests which must fail, so make sure we do report those
failures.

2014-03-11 Thread Chris Wilson
You're bug reports are no longer against xserver-xorg-video-intel where
the bug has been fixed. If you want the fix backported you will have to
open a backport request against xserver-xorg-video-intel-lts-saucy. If
you want to report a similar bug against -radeon, you need to open this
against xserver-xorg-video-ati (or is the package name -radeon in
Ubuntu?).

Any trial to install fglrx provides the same crash : total freeze of the
desktop.
Only way to get out : root + chroot purge of fglrx. I had the same problem
with 13.10 - 14.04 provides no cure.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290775] [NEW] X freeze, garbled output, *ERROR* Failed to schedule IB on RV635/M86 (Radeon HD3650) and RV620

2014-03-11 Thread Darko S
Public bug reported:

On two different computers stragnge display errors are encountered.

Machine A is a laptop:
uname: Linux x 3.11.0-18-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 18 21:11:14 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
/proc/cmdline: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-18-generic root=UUID=... ro
quiet splash vt.handoff=7

Machine B is desktop PC:
uname: Linux x 3.11.0-18-generic #32-Ubuntu SMP Tue Feb 18 21:11:14 UTC 2014
x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
/proc/cmdline: root=/dev/mapper/somelv ro quiet splash

Both machines are running Ubuntu 13.10, with frequent updates (say, at least or
more than once a week).
Both are running xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.2.0-0ubuntu10, neither has
installed anything with fglrx nor catalyst in package name.

On B (desktop PC), display was occasionaly garbled with small artefacts (like
few pixel lines of random dots), and occasionally screen freezes, than goes
blank for a second, then works normaly again for some time - but after 3-4 such
cycles, display permanently freezes. Restarting lightdm through one of VT
consoles helped. Some applications, like firefox, caused these problems to be
more frequent.
Then, as machine was frequently updated in hope of a fix, this changed, but to
worse. Screen went completely garbled, mouse pointer turned to large square
full of random noise, but underlying applications were probably running. VT
consoles also went garbled and hard to use. Both DVI outputs were affected.

On A machine display is mostly blank (though BIOS and GRUP screens are
presented OK), sometimes graphical greeter (logon screen) is displayed,
sometimes not. Bu in either case machine freezes and no logon is possible.
Sometimes SysRq keys are working to reboot can be done, sometimes not.
As this machine is equiped with swithchable graphics, when other GPU (Intel,
integrated) is used display is presented ok.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1287148] Re: Thinkpad clickpad + Trackpoint cannot emulate middle button scrolling

2014-03-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Larry Hastings, could you please test for this with the latest
development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1287148

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, please
note given that the information from the prior release is already
available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would
not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1268049] Re: [Lenovo ThinkPad T440s] Mouse wheel emulation non-functional with soft buttons

2014-03-11 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
ltmon, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1268049

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes
button for attaching additional debugging information. As well, please
note given that the information from the prior release is already
available, doing this on a release prior to the development one would
not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

I would be thrilled to! I'll do that in the next 24 hours.

Are there any special packages I need to install, or should it just
work?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290792] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in RRSetChanged()

2014-03-11 Thread sgon00
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1249551 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1249551

Public bug reported:

1, I opened a bug #1288572 with nvidia-driver.

2 ,there are too many problems with nvidia driver. I think I should
remove it for now. thus I did apt-get purge nvidia-331 nvidia-prime
and then apt-get autoremove.

3, Since my laptop is optimus, this will force me to use intel driver by
default. Reboot the system and login gnome-shell with gdm.

This apport bug pops up. I can login successfully. not sure why I see
this apport popup.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290797] [NEW] longstanding display driver bug elicited by xscreensaver or lightdm or chvt

2014-03-11 Thread gregrwm
Public bug reported:

i've been hitting this bug since natty or earlier. today, as per usual,
the evidence of the bug is that chvt no longer functions normally. in
today's case, two instances of xorg had been running, both crashed, xorg
would not relaunch (immediately crashed again)(tho no trouble launching
Xvnc), after the xorg crashes ctl-alt-F7 shows: The system is running
in low-graphics mode, ctl-alt-F8 shows all black, and the clear clue,
ctl-alt-F1 shows the text you would expect to see there, but at the same
time the mouse cursor is still being displayed and responding to mouse
movement as if we were still looking at ctl-alt-F[78]! same for ctl-
alt-F[2-6]. when i hit this same bug on other days, the behaviour of
ctl-alt-Fn will be peculiar in unique bizarre ways.

i tried to submit this bug via ubuntu-bug (in 2 or 3 screen windows,
then killed them all, then tried one more time), then zipped up the
apport log, the Xorg logs, the single /var/crash/*Xorg* i found, and a
process list.

I can confirm this issue still persisting on Trusty, after all these years.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1290839] [NEW] PS/2 keyboard stops working after package installation

2014-03-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Initial state:
* hdd had two differend Windows versions installed
* hdd had two usable partitions: for swap and for then installation

Steps before unexpected event:
* downloaded trusty daily server ISO image 2014-03-11 (used another machine)
* burned ISO image into DVD (used another machine)
* booted system from the installation DVD
* OS installation: a few steps in installer
* OS installation: formatted usable partiton with ext4 filesystem and chose /
for mountpoint
* OS installation: selected only openssh-server package to be manually
installed
* OS installation: installed bootloader into MBR
* run apt-get upgrade (if I remember right there were 5 packages that needed to
be updated)
* run aptitude install xubuntu-desktop

During the installation process I noticed the following:
display switched into powersaving mode and didn't resume into normal mode
dispite pressing any button on keyboard or moving the mouse. The last item I
remember I saw before this unexpected event was that installation was setting
onboard.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1207378] Re: Screen intermittently goes black

2014-03-11 Thread emptythevoid
This problem is most definitely caused by faulty hardware. It's either
caused by the motherboard, or more likely, the video card. My M6500 has
both Windows 7 and Ubuntu 13.10 on it. With the FX2800 card, black
screens on boot-up/wake-from-suspend were somewhat frequent, but
eventually levelled out after a few reboots, on both Ubuntu and Windows
7. I swapped the FX2800 card with a used FX3800 card and it's *worse*.
However, I'm able to use a setting in Xorg to tell the nvidia settings
driver to *always* throttle back the power mizer to a lower level, and
it works fine in Ubuntu. Windows 7 doesn't have a good way of
permenantly setting this, and it goes to the black of death waaay more
than it did on the old card.

In any case, it's definitely a hardware problem of some kind, and there
is a workaround for it, but it's still crap.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1215449] Re: triple monitor support not working on HD 4600

2014-03-11 Thread Andy Fraley
I can confirm that this bug still exists in today's 14.04 from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/

This was fixed upstream here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68485

Which version of xserver-xorg-video-intel and/or kernel version is
needed to obtain this fix?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289946] Re: Nvidia-prime, Nvidia card turned on(performance) but settings manager shows intel is selected. Can't switch. Laptop heats like hell.

2014-03-11 Thread Oláh Balázs
Kernel updated came again. System started with a crash: Unable to
insall nvidia-331.

nvidia-331 331.38-0ubuntu4: nvidia-331 kernel module failed to build.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-
drivers-331/+bug/1268257

In nvidia-settings it showed correctly that my nvidia card is turned on
and I was able to switch back to Intel. Will try Nvidia after next
update.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1289410] Re: Xorg freeze

2014-03-11 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue may have been introduced by the 3.13.6 stable update. Can
you test the following kernel and see if it also exhibits the bug:

 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13.6-trusty/

If it does, we should also confirm that 3.13.5 does not exhibit the bug:
 http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13.5-trusty/

If that is the case, we can bisect between 3.13.5 and 3.13.6.

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 534659] Re: [i945g] GPU lockup (ESR: 0x00000010 PGTBL_ER: 0x00000003) (Nvidia and i945G hybrid)

2014-03-11 Thread Jim Lawrence
To whom it may concern:

I am trying to replace my current VGA embedded video card with a new DVI
above board video card.

The new card is PCI GeForce 6200 with 512 DDR2 memory. The computer is
a Lenovo MT/M 8810-94U.

The computer will not completely boot and/or display the card graphics
properly on the screen and will not resolve to a simple viewable
display. I had downloaded the complete set of Nvidia drivers and
installed same but do not know how to install an appropriate video
driver while running the old video. (Sort like sawing off the branch I
am sitting on.)
