[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296315] Re: Displaylink and ASUS MB168B+ not working

2014-03-24 Thread Typhoe
Additional tests:

udlfb is blacklisted by default in trusty:
 grep udl /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist-framebuffer.conf
blacklist udlfb

Generic modesetting driver is also present by default:
dpkg -l | grep ^ii *xserver-xorg-video-modesetting
ii xserver-xorg-video-modesetting 0.8.1-1build1
   amd64X.Org X server -- Generic modesetting driver

After reading the Kernel/MainlineBuilds page, I tried a mainline kernel
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

I didn't found my kernel version on the mapping page (Trusty not indicated)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/info/kernel-version-map.html

uname -a
Linux g75vw 3.13.0-19-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 21 14:18:44 UTC 2014

So I tried the kernel v3.13.7 as it seems the last of my version
(configs-based-on-Ubuntu-3.13.0-19.40.patch)
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.13.7-trusty/

linux-image-3.13.7-031307-generic_3.13.7-031307.201403240156_amd64.deb
(no linux-image-extra deb as it is mainline?)

After a dpkg -i *.deb and a reboot, I still don't get any progress...
(manually modprobe udl, and trying to unplug/plug again the monitor)

reproduce this issue. I don't know if the issue was fixed or that the
described Xorg failures are yet another symptom of the poorly supported

2014-03-24 Thread arrith
Very good tests! Good to know about udlfb being blacklisted by default
and xserver-xorg-video-modesetting being present by default, both good.

I find it interesting that xrandr --listproviders doesn't list
anything. Just to make sure, do you have an xorg.conf file?

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1296947] [NEW] libudev dependency not expressed by libgl1-mesa-glx binary package

2014-03-24 Thread Pierre-Loup A. Griffais
Public bug reported:

Mesa 10.1 has a hard dependency on libudev.so.1, which isn't necessarily
being installed as it's not marked as a dependency of libgl1-mesa-glx.
This is a problem for Steam games running on Intel graphics on amd64
hosts, as libudev:i386 isn't typically installed by default on these.

** Affects: mesa (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1251849] Re: [VX820] Regression: driver does not work on Samsung NC20

2014-03-24 Thread Alberto Jovito
Compile the driver I install git on Xubuntu 13.10 in one of the
attempts to start the system crash xfsettingsd could get a picture on
the screen. See the bug #1296449 .

I tried it on kubuntu 13.10, installing the driver deb there were no
issues. So I think that the problem of the black screen is caused by the
XFCE desktop environment.

Attached a patch for the package fixes this bug and bug #1165232 .

[Ubuntu-x-swat] [Bug 1297090] [NEW] nvidia-settings can not detect any real displays/monitors (trusty) (Optimus Laptop)

2014-03-24 Thread sgon00
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu Gnome 14.04 Trusty (latest upgrade)
Hardware: Asus U36JC
Graphic Driver: nvidia-331

I have opened a bug #1296020 (Non-existent display detected in both intel
driver and nvidia driver).
Except the non-existent display issue, nvidia-settings can not detect any real
displays. The only display/monitor it can detect is the non-existent one. I
think this should be a different bug for nvidia-331.

For xrandr -q output, please refer to bug #1296020. nvidia-settings
becomes useless now, it can not detect the built-in display and it can
not detect any new external display. It can only detect the non-existent
CRT-0 (VGA-0). Gnome control center -- Display can detect all displays.
(but it fails to rotate external VGA display. not sure if this is
another bug or not).

I will attach two screenshots for nvidia-settings and gnome-control-
center -- display.

NOTE: due to the bug #1296020 and gdm flickering issue, I have added the
following section to xorg.conf:

Section Monitor
Identifier VGA-0
Option Ignore True
EndSection

AND, xorg.conf is auto-generated by some package. I never created it
manually. It might be generated by gpu-manager (I was told).

This screenshot is taken BEFORE adding the following to xorg.conf:

Regardless the above modification, nvidia-settings can only detect CRT-0
